Made a run on this place early on a Saturday, 'round 8 am (that's early for me on a Saturday), the wife had mentioned kolaches earlier in the week and now I had them on the brain. This is the closest Southern Maid to me, so I hopped on the Shreveport-Barksdale Bridge and was here in mere minutes. The place was hopping, but I was tended to immediately. I ordered a dozen kolaches (6 mild, 6 spicy) The only reason I ordered the mild, is because I wasn't sure if the wife wanted all spicy, and I left my cell phone at home and well, you know how that goes. The mild kolaches are good, but I'm definitely a spicy kolcahe kinda guy. And not all Southern Maids sell kolaches, but this one does and the spicy kolaches are the business! Next time, it's all spicy, all the time! A kolache, by the way, to those that don't know, is kinda like a pig-in-the-blanket, it's sausage rolled up in dough, but waaaaaay better! And since I was in a doughnut shop, I ordered a half dozen glazed (right?) and one chocolate-filled doughnut (yeah!), one raspberry-filled doughnut (uh-huh!) and one white-cream-filled doughnut (that's what I'm talking about!). All the goods rang up a shade under 20 bucks. It was weird, because I noticed one side of the doughnut box, was blue and white and the rest of the box, was the traditional green and white, I asked why this was, having never seen this before in my Southern Maid-eating life, the the worker told me, that the empty boxes sit in the window of the store and the sun bleaches them and they turn blue...Interesting...I did not know that! Go LSU! Beat Florida!

OK so you already know that I am from GA and did not know about a place called Southern Maid until I moved here in Feb. I will say that the Southern Maid experience exceeded all of my donut expectations. They are fresh out the oven and delicious; they also sell these little kolaches (sp?) and they are also very delicious. If your looking for a good donut, this is your place :)

The best doughnuts I've ever had. They have made me a hot glazed man! I'm here every Saturday with my daughter. They also do a military discount!

I lived in Bossier City for two years, and used to frequent this place thinking they had fantastic donuts. Much like the many other places I revisited over the holiday weekend, this one severely disappointed. The donuts while alright, were just that: alright. Everything about them was very forgettable. I honestly think I've had better donuts from a gas station. I got a strawberry iced donut, blueberry stick donut, and a coconut iced donut. I couldn't really pick one that stood out. They were all very mediocre. If you're wanting a really solid donut, this isn't the place. If you're just having a really massive donut craving, and don't mind what sort of donuts you get, then maybe I'd come here.

Great donuts and great service. They always treat me right when I stop in for donuts for my office. Their coffee is good too.

Best donuts and plate lunches in the area. Once you have a donut from here you won't go anywhere else. I won't eat Krispy Kreme or dunkin donuts it may be because I grew up with southern maid but it's the best. You are always greeted with a warm friendly smile!

While working at Barksdale AFB, I needed breakfast at ridiculously early in the morning most days, and Southern Maid was the perfect answer! I decided to check them out because they were located near the main (West) gate to the base, but I was quickly convinced to come back after trying their offerings. If you're the type who wants some protein in the morning, they offer "Kolaches" that are a decent sized link of mild or spicy smoked sausage wrapped in dough and then baked, available for a dollar each. If you're looking for the sugar rush, there are a lot of options here, but I'm going to highlight three in particular: 1) The chocolate dipped, sweet cream cheese stuffed donut. This started life as one of their regular yeast donuts, dipped in chocolate, then piped full of the kind of sweet creamy goodness you find topping the best red velvet or carrot cakes. 2) The "pink" glazed donuts - sweet, silky glaze that sets up into a tasty, somewhat berry flavored shell. I'm pretty sure they're a strawberry donut, but when I asked, I was simply told "Honey, it's pink!". Sometimes, that's all the answer you need. 3) The dutch chocolate filled donut. This starts life as a fried yeast donut that gets rolled in cinnamon and sugar, and then pumped almost to bursting with decadently rich dark chocolate. It basically exists as a tiny cinnamon sugary shell to protect that delicious goodness before it can get inside your mouth. They do offer a drive thru, while inside is basically just a few plain tables, but when you're making a 5am donut run, you're not looking for ambiance. If you're visiting Shreveport or the base, this should be one of your first, last, and best stops for sweet goodness!

i grew up in Shreveport and Southern Maid Doughnuts were an IMPORTANT part of my childhood. Friends have even flown them to Chicago for me. This trip I was staying WAY OUT of town with relatives with no wifi or cell coverage. I remembered fondly the Barksdale Blvd. Southern Maid and stopped in for a coffee and a couple of doughnuts AND to use their wifi and catch up. The one and only attendant --I believe her name was something like Shuana, was sullen....not even returning a greeting. And when I asked her for the password...she not only didn't have it but would not call the manager,Tommy as she did not want to be "chewed out". She said Tommy didn't want to doesn't want to have folks sitting around on the wifi. But then ---why have the service? I was most disappointed! Next trip I will find another location...or go to the ever friendly Mc Donald's down the road. The doughnuts are still great...but the service obviously sucks!

Used the drive-thru, service was fast. Donuts were delicious as was the coffee, better than DD & cheaper!
