The sushi here is acceptable. Sushi is a personal experience and everyone is an expert so take my review with a grain of salt. If this were a sushi joint on the west coast I wouldn't return, however since this is Baton Rouge and it is more or less what i expect from sushi in the South then I am being very generous in my rating. From a sushi purists perspective this place is a big No-No, but if you are willing to have a couple of rolls and some soda then this place will suffice. The bountiful list of rolls here indicates what they are known for and what they are supposed to be good at. They have rolls ranging from no fish to cooked fish and most everything in between. Expect most of the rolls to be very "rich" sorta like Paula Deen style sushi rolls with lots of choices of cream cheese and avacado or masago cream sauce. The salmon nigiri and New Orleans roll were the better of what i had. The staff is extremely friendly and this was the only sushi place open til 11pm so that is a definite plus.

I really enjoyed this place. We went late - 9PM on a Sunday, and it was empty. Nice to have a peaceful meal. The portions were generous, and the menu extensive. The salmon avacado was okay, but the yellow tail scallion was wonderful, and the giant roll - what a great and eclectic specialty. I highly recommend, and look forward to going back if I'm ever in Baton Rouge again.

The best decent priced sushi you can buy at 10pm! Seriously, everyone there is always really nice and accommodating. Their food is all delicious, and you don't have to empty your wallet over dinner for two. I usually order to-go, but their dine-in experience is nice, too. When I order take-out, I often just call them when I'm on the way, because they're wicked fast and have it ready by the time I arrive. Love this place!

Wahada is a 100% college-based restaurant, sitting not far off of the main LSU campus off of Nicholson. Run-of-th-mill sushi bar style setting predominates in terms of decor and service. Staff are mostly college students, but they all know the menu decently well. It doesn't matter what you get from the menu. It will be good. On a personal note - try the JERRY ROLL. I've been to many places and have tried countless similar dishes trying to find a replacement/competitor for this roll...none have nailed it. Overall, Wahada has been a must-go place whenever I have been in the Baton Rouge area. A broad menu caters to many different tastes and palates.

Reasonable prices, good service but odd decor and mediocre food. Stopped in for a quick bite and I was pretty disappointed in the food. I had the fried pork gyoza, tamago, and ramen. The gyoza were nice and crispy but the filling was mostly flavorless. The tamago was sweet and the strip of nori provided a good umami contrast. The other thing I liked about the tamago was that it was able to be easily eaten in one bite. Overall, I liked this presentation. Now the "ramen" was a clear afterthought on the menu and not even remotely close to being real ramen. From the description, "Ramen noodle soup with stewed pork slices, fish cake, egg, and bamboo shoot.", I thought I was getting in to a traditional tonkotsu base made with roasted pork bones which results in a cloudy, milky broth. This broth was a boxed beef stock that was clear. Bad start. The "pork" was probably beef based on the grain, texture and flavor. It also tasted like it had 5 spice powder which made me think of it more of a Chinese dish as opposed to Japanese. There were no bamboo shoots either. The egg was hard boiled as opposed to soft boiled, but that's more of a preference than a fault. The fish cake was a bit more assertive than I like but still acceptable. The noodles were OK although I like my ramen slightly undercooked and chewier. Overall, I was really disappointed in this ramen. Service was fast and courteous. However, I don't think I would go back. If I could I would give 2.5 stars.

My favorite rolls are the Sahara roll and Tic Tac Roll. The lunch bento boxes are tasty and cheap. I always order my favorite appetizer which is the baked salmon, salmon wrapped around a handful of snowcrab, baked and topped w/ sweet eel sauce. It's the standard baked salmon app that every Japanese restaurant has, but I can't resist getting it every time I eat sushi. My last visit was about a month ago, I ordered the sashimi appetizer, Sahara Roll, a mixed green salad with mango, avocado, fresh salmon and shredded crabstick with a balsamic vinegar dressing. Sahara roll is usually my favorite roll but it was overly seasoned and not seared like it usually is this time around. I was really disappointed with my recent experience but the food is typically a hit or miss. Service is usually friendly but a little slow. This use to be my go to sushi restaurant back in my college days because of the convenience, close proximity to LSU and also because they offer free food delivery.

As far as sushi goes, Wahada takes the cake, so to speak. If you've never been to Wahada, try the "Giant Roll." You'll love it.

You need to take this review seriously :P Here's why: 1) I love sushi; 2) I think I have a good case that I am very knowledgeable about sushi; 3) I am very skeptical of the Baton Rouge restaurant scene (!) and thus do not give inflated ratings. So all I'm saying is, when I tell you that Wahada has excellent sushi, you need to believe me. I ordered a couple of the rolls, and they were excellent. The nigiri though--that's a great test of freshness because there are no sauces and spices and seaweed to dampen the flavor of the fish. And the nigiri was very, very good. By far the best I've had in BR--much better than, say, Tsunami (which, as I am sure you know, is dreadfully over-rated). Don't be put-off by the location in a strip mall. Here in Baton Rouge, everything is in a seedy strip mall, so you can't hold that against Wahada. I have some less-than-enthusiastic things to say about the service, but the food was so surprisingly good that it has not affected my review. Anyway, you need to eat here. That's all.

I wasn't expecting top of the line sushi in BR. But I came to visit my fiance and his roommate suggested we go here. Compared to Houston sushi restaurants, the prices here are slightly more expensive. But, the portions are humongous! Biggggg chunks of sashimi and fresh sushi. I came during happy hour but it's not even THAT happy - just 10% off your order. The beef teriyaki wasn't that great though, so stick to the sushi. Restaurant itself is subdued and the outside is plain. You could probably miss it! But the best places to eat at aren't trendy joints in the first place.

OKAY...now we are talking sushi! Wahada is an oasis in BR. Seriously fresh fish, great service, friendly sushi chefs....Oh god, I'm so happy they are here! I ate sushi about 2 or 3 times a week before I moved here and I missed it so much because I simply do not think it a lot of the local attempts were very good despite raves about Tsunami, or whatever. I've tried about 5 in the area and it always tasted like the stuff you'd get as a lunch special in a deli or grocery store. Edible but nothing to write home about. Wahada knows what they are doing though. They have the "American-ized" stuff with chocolate chips, and a sparkler (I kid, I kid) or whatever but they also have really authentic off the menu selections that are divine. The fish is gloriously fresh and the rice is perfect. I really enjoyed their sake selection (reaallly enjoyed it) as well. This may be my favorite restaurant in BR.

Best bang for your buck around here in regards to sushi. Everything is delicious. I've had gyoza, squid salad, baked salmon, California roll, Louisiana roll, crunchy roll, and my personal favorites - snowcrab roll and fried oyster roll. Sometimes they offer complimentary cream puffs with the check, but I haven't seen these in the last few times I've been here. Really enjoy the take-out/pick-up feature.

Before reading my review: please note that I'm a vegetarian who does not eat seafood! That said, Wahada's vegetarian sushi (with carrot, cucumber, avocado, and pickled Japanese veggies) is delicious and well made, as is the nigiri (tofu) sushi. Usually if I want fresh vegetarian sushi with flavor, I have to make it myself... I got my meal to go at Wahada and am looking forward to eating out on the patio when the weather cools off.

Let's just start off by saying I love places that deliver! I had the combo fried rice, which was packed with beef, chicken, and shrimp. It was really delivious, and i could not stop eating it. I ordered a couple of rolls that also had great flavor, and they tasted really fresh. I had the spicy tuna roll and the salmon avocado roll. The prices are great and the delivery driver was very nice. They originally quoted me 30-45 minutes, but it ended up only taking about 25minutes which is great for delivery. I can't even get a pizza from dominos that quick. I will definitely be ordering from them again in the near future when i get the craving for sushi!

The atmosphere is casual but they have a lovely outdoor seating area. You've gotta try the Brandi roll! Although their lunch deals are truly killer, a lot of their entrees are too generic to rate any higher. This is really a 3.5 for me, especially because the owner (or the woman I think is the owner anyway) is always so sweet. But at the end of the day, a fair amount of their food is generic japanese and takes no real culinary risks. The worst offender for me is the teriaky chicken. God, I don't know if it's the cut of meat they use but the texture is truly awful. It's not just ok-it's bad, and that dish isn't hard to get right. Their noodle dishes (udon) are usually more successful, and the portions are large. The sushi is all over the map to me. I guess my issue is that it's rarely been great. Mostly hovering in ok territory. Here's what I want to stress though- those bento lunches are probably the best lunch deal out of all the restaurants I frequent in town. For less than 9 dollars, you get miso soup, house salad, California roll, rice, fruit, and your choice of meat (chicken, beef, fish, etc). That's some infomercial "but wait! there more!" level stuff.

"WAHADA - it's to CRY for!!! After one taste, it will leave you with tears of joy!" Or so states Wahada's website. In any case, these boasts are a slight exaggeration. Wahada is actually a by-the-numbers Japanese and sushi restaurant that, despite its rather staid ambience and plain sea-blue decor, appears to be quite popular with the kids from nearby LSU. While Wahada is not bad, it's not really anything to get terribly excited about. It's pretty generic. The sushi was OK, but nothing to write home about. Compared to my favorite sushi places in New Orleans, I didn't think the freshness measured up, at least not on the Sunday evening we were there. (And yeah, maybe that's not the best night to get fish, anywhere...) The menu has the standard-issue rolls you see all over the place, and the choices of fish for nigiri and sashimi were somewhat limited. The sushi chefs' knife and assembly skills aren't a problem. Wahada is certainly not bad, and the prices are quite reasonable. Seaweed salad comes in a giant portion (one $4.95 order is probably enough for two), but it was strangely sweet. Beer selection is rather limited, too, but then that's the fault in part of Louisiana distributors, who at this late date still haven't fully gotten with the craft- and micro-brew program. Service was competent and friendly. All in all, a fair-to-middling sushi experience. I shouldn't complain too much, because my current landlocked town sucks for sushi, but then my expectations get raised for places closer to the coasts.

I love Wahada, though I would never say it is the best sushi in Baton Rouge. I appreciate that Wahada has the most realistic self-image of all Baton Rouge's sushi restaurants. It is not fancy, nor special. But the food is cheap and good quality. Seriously, their lunch specials are practically a steal. The service is good enough. The staff never drops the ball, nor are they terribly helpful or friendly. Misunderstandings and awkward walking away before you're done talking to them happens occasionally, but that's as bad as it gets. But that's what this place is! The servers aren't upselling you or pretending to be your best friend. They take your order, bring your food, and get you refills, plain and simple. I've never had the special rolls from here so I can't speak to that, but the simple cucumber roll, maguro nigiri and wasabi special salad never disappoint. Looking for something more filling? Get one of the combo meals- an entire chicken breast for katsu and an assortment of nigiri, plus a miso soup, a salad, two gyoza, rice, and fruit for like $16? Hell yeah! The owners recently opened a second store near LSU, right next door to Louies. It's called Koi and it has a nearly identical menu. One notable difference? Koi offers Kirin on tap! I guess Koi would be a great place to eat lunch and drown your sorrows in Kirin after bombing an exam : )

Wow... I must have chosen the wrong items from the menu because my experience at Wahada was nothing like the other yelpers! I love sushi, but I am not likely to go to this place again. I ordered two of the special rolls here. One of the rolls had tempura shrimp; the shrimp looked and tasted as if it had been battered in sand. The other roll included "fresh" salmon and was topped with red tobiko; both the tobiko and the salmon were lacking in quality. As for the non-sushi items: the egg rolls were pretty tasty, shrimp and vegetable I think. The wasabi hot wings were pathetic. We got five of the tiniest chicken wings I've ever seen. I didn't taste anything remotely similar to wasabi on the wings, the wings were dry when served so maybe they forgot to put the sauce on? Last and least, the cucumber salad offensive; rather than a light dressing, it was swimming in at least a cup of rice vinegar and mirin.

Wahadas is a nice little sushi restaurant in the LSU area. I have to say I was definitely impressed. Some notable background information is that I was once a sushi chef while in college :). I decided to sit outside on my visit and it was a beautiful day to enjoy the outdoors and have a nice meal. Service was good but nothing spectacular. Was a nice gentleman who got our drinks, placed our orders and checked on us every ten minutes or so. The food was for its price very good. The quality of fish was quite wonderful. Me and my girlfriend shared the sashimi platter. My favorite fishes at this restaurant were the yellow tail, octopus and salmon. All were very fresh and they give you quite generous pieces of fish. My personal favorite fishes in general are usually white tuna and salmon. However, the yellow tail was just so good I have to put it above the white tuna in this situation. I also got a box sushi. Box sushi is basically a sushi in square shape without seaweed or soy paper. They take avocado and snowcrab wrap it in rice in a square shape and put whichever 2 types of sashimi you would like on top. I once again got the salmon and yellow tail and was not dissapointed. All very fresh and very filling although the rice was not much. At the end of our meal we were given complimentary cream puffs for dessert which were nice and refreshing. Overall a great experience! Good for college budget students who love sushi. Best quality for your moneys worth! PEACE!

The Sashimi Deluxe at Wahada was pretty plentiful for the price $20 and included ginger dressing salad and miso soup. The salmon and yellowtail were both the standouts of the group, only disappointment was the escolar, which was stringy. We also ordered a salmon avocado roll, which really just melted in your mouth. Certainly worth a try if you're looking for sushi and choose to avoid a chain like Hello Sushi. Oh, it was not super busy but it still only took less than ten minutes to have everything ready to go, bravo!

This place has a fresh sushi , no stinks ! I will definitely go back again . The ramen noodle was ok . Broth they uses clear broth from menu but noodle was pretty good.

Best bang for your buck around here in regards to sushi. Everything is delicious. I've had gyoza, squid salad, baked salmon, California roll, Louisiana roll, crunchy roll, and my personal favorites - snowcrab roll and fried oyster roll. Sometimes they offer complimentary cream puffs with the check, but I haven't seen these in the last few times I've been here. Really enjoy the take-out/pick-up feature.

Before reading my review: please note that I'm a vegetarian who does not eat seafood! That said, Wahada's vegetarian sushi (with carrot, cucumber, avocado, and pickled Japanese veggies) is delicious and well made, as is the nigiri (tofu) sushi. Usually if I want fresh vegetarian sushi with flavor, I have to make it myself... I got my meal to go at Wahada and am looking forward to eating out on the patio when the weather cools off.

I'm not so sure if I enjoy the food here as much as I should. The quality of food is decent. But the service is very good and the owner is very nice! Prices might be a little more expensive than normal. Environment has a traditional Japanese feel and is typically quieter than others.

Let's just start off by saying I love places that deliver! I had the combo fried rice, which was packed with beef, chicken, and shrimp. It was really delivious, and i could not stop eating it. I ordered a couple of rolls that also had great flavor, and they tasted really fresh. I had the spicy tuna roll and the salmon avocado roll. The prices are great and the delivery driver was very nice. They originally quoted me 30-45 minutes, but it ended up only taking about 25minutes which is great for delivery. I can't even get a pizza from dominos that quick. I will definitely be ordering from them again in the near future when i get the craving for sushi!

Wahada has fresh seafood, reasonable prices, yummy rolls, and kind staff. I've been eating here regularly for 2 years and they haven't disappointed me yet. The atmosphere is casual but they have a lovely outdoor seating area. You've gotta try the Brandi roll! This is the highest quality sushi you're going to get at a restaurant in this price range and sushi-wise I'd say it's better than Tsunami.

For me, you can have the sexy expensive alternative that it Tsunami. In Baton Rouge the place I frequent for sushi is Wahada. Everything is fresh they sometimes offer a free carrot salad to start you off. The rolls are yummy and they are very kid friendly. The prices are beyond reasonable and the offerings are vast. There is no other place for you to even consider having sushi.

Quiet place to get great sushi. I go here a lot with my bf. I also order sushi to-go a lot. For the price it's the best sushi in Baton Rouge.

Although their lunch deals are truly killer, a lot of their entrees are too generic to rate any higher. This is really a 3.5 for me, especially because the owner (or the woman I think is the owner anyway) is always so sweet. But at the end of the day, a fair amount of their food is generic japanese and takes no real culinary risks. The worst offender for me is the teriaky chicken. God, I don't know if it's the cut of meat they use but the texture is truly awful. It's not just ok-it's bad, and that dish isn't hard to get right. Their noodle dishes (udon) are usually more successful, and the portions are large. The sushi is all over the map to me. I guess my issue is that it's rarely been great. Mostly hovering in ok territory. Here's what I want to stress though- those bento lunches are probably the best lunch deal out of all the restaurants I frequent in town. For less than 9 dollars, you get miso soup, house salad, California roll, rice, fruit, and your choice of meat (chicken, beef, fish, etc). That's some infomercial "but wait! there more!" level stuff.

"WAHADA - it's to CRY for!!! After one taste, it will leave you with tears of joy!" Or so states Wahada's website. In any case, these boasts are a slight exaggeration. Wahada is actually a by-the-numbers Japanese and sushi restaurant that, despite its rather staid ambience and plain sea-blue decor, appears to be quite popular with the kids from nearby LSU. While Wahada is not bad, it's not really anything to get terribly excited about. It's pretty generic. The sushi was OK, but nothing to write home about. Compared to my favorite sushi places in New Orleans, I didn't think the freshness measured up, at least not on the Sunday evening we were there. (And yeah, maybe that's not the best night to get fish, anywhere...) The menu has the standard-issue rolls you see all over the place, and the choices of fish for nigiri and sashimi were somewhat limited. The sushi chefs' knife and assembly skills aren't a problem. Wahada is certainly not bad, and the prices are quite reasonable. Seaweed salad comes in a giant portion (one $4.95 order is probably enough for two), but it was strangely sweet. Beer selection is rather limited, too, but then that's the fault in part of Louisiana distributors, who at this late date still haven't fully gotten with the craft- and micro-brew program. Service was competent and friendly. All in all, a fair-to-middling sushi experience. I shouldn't complain too much, because my current landlocked town sucks for sushi, but then my expectations get raised for places closer to the coasts.

I love Wahada, though I would never say it is the best sushi in Baton Rouge. I appreciate that Wahada has the most realistic self-image of all Baton Rouge's sushi restaurants. It is not fancy, nor special. But the food is cheap and good quality. Seriously, their lunch specials are practically a steal. The service is good enough. The staff never drops the ball, nor are they terribly helpful or friendly. Misunderstandings and awkward walking away before you're done talking to them happens occasionally, but that's as bad as it gets. But that's what this place is! The servers aren't upselling you or pretending to be your best friend. They take your order, bring your food, and get you refills, plain and simple. I've never had the special rolls from here so I can't speak to that, but the simple cucumber roll, maguro nigiri and wasabi special salad never disappoint. Looking for something more filling? Get one of the combo meals- an entire chicken breast for katsu and an assortment of nigiri, plus a miso soup, a salad, two gyoza, rice, and fruit for like $16? Hell yeah! The owners recently opened a second store near LSU, right next door to Louies. It's called Koi and it has a nearly identical menu. One notable difference? Koi offers Kirin on tap! I guess Koi would be a great place to eat lunch and drown your sorrows in Kirin after bombing an exam : )

Good hole in the wall place for fresh sushi. You won't be disappointed. They have a good selection to choose from and the waiters and waitresses are very friendly. It's close to LSU campus so might be a good place to go if you are tired of all the fried food places around there. Reasonably priced for good sushi and service.

Wow... I must have chosen the wrong items from the menu because my experience at Wahada was nothing like the other yelpers! I love sushi, but I am not likely to go to this place again. I ordered two of the special rolls here. One of the rolls had tempura shrimp; the shrimp looked and tasted as if it had been battered in sand. The other roll included "fresh" salmon and was topped with red tobiko; both the tobiko and the salmon were lacking in quality. As for the non-sushi items: the egg rolls were pretty tasty, shrimp and vegetable I think. The wasabi hot wings were pathetic. We got five of the tiniest chicken wings I've ever seen. I didn't taste anything remotely similar to wasabi on the wings, the wings were dry when served so maybe they forgot to put the sauce on? Last and least, the cucumber salad offensive; rather than a light dressing, it was swimming in at least a cup of rice vinegar and mirin.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Baton Rouge. Friendly service, pleasant atmosphere, and knowledgeable chefs. The fish has consistantly been the freshest I've had in the city. Great sake selection, too. Order off the menu, or if you're feeling adventurous, ask for the special sushi menu.

Love this place, Very Japanese looking as the first impression. I randomly stop by this place after an awful day, and I ordered my favorite essentials. The food made my day. Fresh, flavorful, nicely served and the price is reasonable. Should have posted my review long ago, but deep down I probably want to save this little piece of peace for my self. LOL.

Wahadas is a nice little sushi restaurant in the LSU area. I have to say I was definitely impressed. Some notable background information is that I was once a sushi chef while in college :). I decided to sit outside on my visit and it was a beautiful day to enjoy the outdoors and have a nice meal. Service was good but nothing spectacular. Was a nice gentleman who got our drinks, placed our orders and checked on us every ten minutes or so. The food was for its price very good. The quality of fish was quite wonderful. Me and my girlfriend shared the sashimi platter. My favorite fishes at this restaurant were the yellow tail, octopus and salmon. All were very fresh and they give you quite generous pieces of fish. My personal favorite fishes in general are usually white tuna and salmon. However, the yellow tail was just so good I have to put it above the white tuna in this situation. I also got a box sushi. Box sushi is basically a sushi in square shape without seaweed or soy paper. They take avocado and snowcrab wrap it in rice in a square shape and put whichever 2 types of sashimi you would like on top. I once again got the salmon and yellow tail and was not dissapointed. All very fresh and very filling although the rice was not much. At the end of our meal we were given complimentary cream puffs for dessert which were nice and refreshing. Overall a great experience! Good for college budget students who love sushi. Best quality for your moneys worth! PEACE!

The Sashimi Deluxe at Wahada was pretty plentiful for the price $20 and included ginger dressing salad and miso soup. The salmon and yellowtail were both the standouts of the group, only disappointment was the escolar, which was stringy. We also ordered a salmon avocado roll, which really just melted in your mouth. Certainly worth a try if you're looking for sushi and choose to avoid a chain like Hello Sushi. Oh, it was not super busy but it still only took less than ten minutes to have everything ready to go, bravo!

Love, love. Love the Brandi roll. Everything is always fresh and they are super fast. I usually order take out and it's ready in 10 mins. Prices are also pretty good as well
