I have semi-high standards for Italian food, and I love Monjuni's. The red sauce is delicious, and luckily, they sell it in jars! Portions are generous, but I always wish I had more leftovers. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, and I usually can't say no to their cheesecake. This review would be five stars if based entirely on the food, but I've had a couple inattentive servers at Monjuni's. Not even close to a dealbreaker, but something to consider if you're on a schedule.

Worst Caesar salad I ever had. It was a takeout order combined with several other orders. It didn't come with any dressing. It was lettuce, a few croutons and some COLD grilled chicken on top that apparently had just been taken out of the refrigerator.

Another one of my favorites from back home!! Monjuni's is my all time favorite Italian restaurant. I don't get there as much as I'd like because it's a little drive with lots of traffic from Prairieville to the Baton Rouge location. For starters, toast with their sweet marinara sauce is brought out for snacking with your drinks. It's so good, try and refrain from ruining your appetite! My husband and I usually have the Cajun shrimp toast for our appetizer, and split the lasagna. That's more than enough food for the both of us. When I go without him I always have a difficult time choosing between the two! Most times I end up having the shrimp toast as my entree. The Cajun Shrimp Toast is phenomenal:). Cajun boiled shrimp atop their French bread, thinly sliced and toasted, with a tomato, and melted cheese...pepperoncini peppers are on the side, it's an excellent flavor addition! Now for the lasagna...what can I say...it's delicious, mouthwatering, a definite must have! All pasta, meat, cheesy goodness! The signature sweet sauce is what makes this particular dish so amazing though! My one and only disappointment with this location is that there is no mint tea. The Shreveport locations have the BEST tea I've ever had! Sweet tea with orange, lemon, and fresh mint. This would be total heaven if they brought in the mint tea! If you haven't been here, go give it a try, I guarantee you'll be hooked!!

If you're looking for unique, memorable Italian food this is your place. Their sauce is like no other in the city and will leave a big impression. I actually crave it now! When you arrive, dine on the most delicious french bread slices. Slather them in the sauce and you'll easily fill up before your meal arrives! Noteworthy dishes: shrimp aurora. It's a mix of red and white sauces over thin noodles with shrimp baked in and sprinkles with cheese. Another is the lasagna. Holy wow. I can hurt myself with these! You can order a sampler and try them all. Finally, I love the chicken parm. So darned good. I always ask for extra red sauce because I always use it all!

Quaint restaurant tucked away in the Old Goodwood area. Reminds me of a restaurant you would find in little Italy. Grapes are hung from the ceiling throughout. I had the Italian sampler. I recommend sharing this one as the portions were huge. Service was beyond stellar. Our waitress was very attentive.

This has always been a favorite place of mine,but not now . Last night we ate there and the food was not the best. I had the veal parmingia (sp??)and my girl friend had the the chicken parmingia. Her sister had the sampler plate. Every time i get the veal because its always been awesome.but this time it was luke warm at the best. You could see the steam coming off other peoples food that was sitting around us. All of our food was luke warm . im sure we will go back sometime but not anytime soon. Allie was our server and a bright light in a dim evening.She had multiple large groups of people. She always had a smile on her face and was still attentive to our table.

This place is really not very good. just ate there, had the big house salad. chopped lettuce, no taste. had this ravioli type appetizer that was not good. my friends had lasagna, some shrimp type dish, eggplant. it all looked the same with cheese globbed on top of everything. heavy, fatty food place was packed which goes to show you people in BR will eat anything if its cheap enough with big portions a place like this would last a month in Europe

Monjunis is delicious. The service is generally pretty good and they are a beautiful little Italian shop. I've had a lot of their menu and they do just about everything well, but they really pride themselves on the spaghetti and meatball and lasagna. That's what I would recommend. My mom and her husband invited me and my partner to dinner here last night. My partner kept insisting that I'd been there before but I swore I hadn't - trust me, I hadn't - I'd have remembered the celing covered with plastic grapes hanging down! Cute - almost chic... it was a lovely experience. i had a muffaletto, a half though a quarter would have sufficed, and some garlic parmesean fries. Both were good, but my muff standards are pretty high considering my first was in my teens at the Napoleon House in New Orleans. I'd call if a 3-4 on a scale of 1-5. My partner had the special of the evening, $25 for an eggplant appetizer, broiled drom and a canolit for desert. My mom the antipasta plate and her hubby his standard spaghetti and meatballs. All the food was good. Not "great" but definitely good. The server was attentive, but not so much that I recall his name. The prices weren't all that reasonable - on the high end of the range - $15 - 20 for an entree; $13 for an appetizer of fried calamari. The drinks were good - mom and I both had Grey Goose dirty martiinins straight up and they were nicely poured and had an appropriate amount of vodka. According to my partner the house Cabernet was lovely, and though they were out of my step-father's first pick of beers, they did have his second. The ONLY issue was that the "special" for "Baton Rouge Night Out" - a restaraunt funrider with some of the proceeds donted to the local food bank, was suppose to come with a Strawberry Cannoli for desert - which my partner ordered to go since she was stuffed from her meal. Unfortunately she didn't check the to go bag before she left and the next day when she went to get her cannolli she found instead a bread pudding which she found rather too thick and chewy. So, word of advice is CHECK YOUR TO GO BOX before you leave or you might wind up with a surprise. A tad pricey, but a really interestingly decorated atmosphere with lovely, if unmemorble, service. Not my favourite Italian place in town, but perhaps worth doing again just to see where it goes from there.

Never had a problem with food at this place. The portions, like most Italian restaurants, are huge. I usually order spaghetti and meatballs, but this time I decided to get a little adventurous and ordered the Neapolitan stuffed pasta, and boy was I surprised! In a good way though. The dish looked so pretty when it arrived. And tasted equally good. Since it was happy hours when we went, I got two sangrias for the price of one. All in all, I was a happy customer when I left.

Upon walking in we were greeted as if I walked in to my Maw Maw's house. "hey, how ya'll doin'?" I waited for my hug and kiss on the cheek...then I came to my senses. We had very attentive service, it was not overly micromanaged nor did I feel like I was on a deserted island. They have it down pat. Ordered the spaghetti and 2 meatballs (glad they give you a choice) "Ma'am would you like 1 meatball or 2?" I was like huh, ah, 2 is always better than 1. The sauce tasted like the good red 'gravy' we make back home in New Iberia. This was a great experience for me and If you have a chance to stop by, I would suggest you do so. Oh, and do not forget to have some of their garlic bread! Ciao Baby!!

The atmosphere was very cozy and the waitresses were patient and nice. If you want to spend a little more money than you would on fast food or a diner, I'd recommend this place.

I ordered the eggplant parm with a side salad and a meatball. Their sauce is nice and thick with a deep red color. It's also on the sweeter side which I like. The eggplant was ok and the spaghetti they served it on was yummy and plentiful. I have lunch for tomorrow now. The salad was my favorite part. Nicely chopped veggies and their olive mixture were perfect.

I decided to try this restaurant out since I had heard so much about it. Upon entering, I wasn't sure I was in the correct place since there was no name on the door and as you walk in, it has an appearance of a small shop that sells collanders. I saw some menus laying on a counter and knew I was in the right place. No one was at the front counter to greet me so me and my dinner companion stood and waited till someone showed up. Finally a man greeted us and I explained this was our 1st visit but he did not acknowledge that. We were seated at a table that was cleared but the table top was not fully clean. All of a sudden I realized I was sitting in the middle of a blizzard. The A/C vent was blowing right down on top of me and before I left the restaurant, my food was cold and my nose, cheeks, ears, chin, and hands were all FREEZING! It wasn't even cold outside (in the 60's). The waiter came to our table and seemed nice, took our drink order, then brought us a garlic bread appetizer. The bread was very hard and crunchy (some like it soft) but good. It was served in a plastic basket with paper, and the sauce was served in a foam disposable bowl. The sauce served with it was their famous marinara sauce. It was very sweet and tasted like sweetened ketchup (if that's your thing). It wasn't bad, but it DEFINITELY tasted just like Ketchup! We finished our complimentary bread, then our salads came. They were served in small hard plastic bowls. The salads were really good, probably the best thing I ate there. It included chopped tomato on top, a chopped green olive mixture, and a pepperoncini on the side. 1/2 way through our salad, the waiter stops by momentarily and offers to bring us some bread. I thought it would be a minute or two. He never brought us the bread!!! Matter of fact, he seated a couple of girls at an adjacent table and brought THEM bread, but not us. So I ate my salad anyway. Then our entrees were served shortly thereafter. They didn't score much on presentation. My dinner companion's lasagna looked pretty good and he was pleased with it. My shrimp and broccoli fettuccine alfredo was really good but super heavy on the garlic. I love garlic so this wasn't much of an issue with me but it could be for someone who doesn't want a ton of garlic. I asked the waiter if he'd bring us some bread and he then told me a new batch of bread was baking. I was thinking he could've brought us the bread he'd promised us but brought to the other table. Our waiter visited our table maybe once during the whole time we were there. If we'd been choking and needing water, I guess we would've choked to death before he would've come back. He finally brought us some bread,...at the end of our dinner. Fail! I noticed other tables sitting and waiting forever for their checks. I do have to admit the lighting, noise level, and music were all very pleasing. The chairs seemed new with a cafe style retro appearance. I really liked the atmosphere. It seemed a lot of college aged kids frequented this restaurant. I might have to take another trip before I down-rate this restaurant, and give them another chance to redeem themselves. The food was adequate, but the service really was horrible. The waiter lying to me that he would bring me some bread right away, then waiting till I'm done eating before he brought it to us was just pitiful. Management needs to look into this. My only last complaint was that my fettuccine was clumped together when it was cooked. It was al dente but the chef did not stir the pasta while ti was boiling to prevent clumping. I had several clumps that were 2 & 3 strands stuck together. It was hard to seperate them before I ate them. The fettuccine alfredo had plenty of sauce and the lasagna was douced in the red ketchupy sauce but my dinner companion thought it was good. I will try them one more time but they are on a trial visit with me.

I love garlic so this wasn't much of an issue with me but it could be for someone who doesn't want a ton of garlic. I asked the waiter if he'd bring us some bread and he then told me a new batch of bread was baking. I was thinking he could've brought us the bread he'd promised us but brought to the other table. Our waiter visited our table maybe once during the whole time we were there. If we'd been choking and needing water, I guess we would've choked to death before he would've come back. He finally brought us some bread,...at the end of our dinner. Fail! I noticed other tables sitting and waiting forever for their checks. I do have to admit the lighting, noise level, and music were all very pleasing. The chairs seemed new with a cafe style retro appearance. I really liked the atmosphere. It seemed a lot of college aged kids frequented this restaurant. I might have to take another trip before I down-rate this restaurant, and give them another chance to redeem themselves. The food was adequate, but the service really was horrible. The waiter lying to me that he would bring me some bread right away, then waiting till I'm done eating before he brought it to us was just pitiful. Management needs to look into this. My only last complaint was that my fettuccine was clumped together when it was cooked. It was al dente but the chef did not stir the pasta while ti was boiling to prevent clumping. I had several clumps that were 2 & 3 strands stuck together. It was hard to seperate them before I ate them. The fettuccine alfredo had plenty of sauce and the lasagna was douced in the red ketchupy sauce but my dinner companion thought it was good. I will try them one more time but they are on a trial visit with me.
