Best. Veggie Fried Rice. EVER. Seriously, I've had some good--and bad--fried rice in my day, but I've never had it as good as at Hunan. My boyfriend and I are brand new to Baton Rouge and were craving some Chinese food on our second day here, before our kitchen was unpacked and energy restored from moving halfway across the country. We found this place on Yelp, and we were very impressed! I got the veggie egg foo young and he got Buddha's delight with a side of the amazing fried rice and egg drop soup. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back again to try the buffet out sometime. And seriously, guys, get the fried rice.

I eat at Hunan every time I'm in Baton Rouge. It's been around forever, and the food is always yummy. It's not hip or trendy, but if you want to stuff your face with good Chinese food, this is your spot. They have a great lunch buffet. For dinner, go with a group and order several plates to share family-style.

Service was ok and the food was fresh and delicious!! We were too late for the buffet so we ordered off the menu instead. Can't go wrong with the mandarin chicken. It's served on top of vegetables and sauce. Comes with a bowl of white rice. My brother ordered beef with vegetables and my parents ordered shrimp fried rice as well as the beef lo mein. Everything was fresh with large portions. We got egg rolls for appetizers too. They were a little too greasy but the flavor was good. We used to come here a loooong time ago. Glad to see its still delicious.

My favorite thing to get off of Chinese menus is the rice. By far at Hunan the best shrimp fried rice I have ever eaten! I drive across town just for it!!!

I only eat at Hunan when I'm in Baton Rouge! They have the best shrimp fried rice I have ever had! I've tried the buffet also and it was great. Plus, super friendly service!

I love this place. Some of the best Chinese food in Baton Rouge. The Chicken Blossom is my favorite thing I've tried here.

Having come from California, where we had a lot of excellent Hunan, Szechuan, mandarin, and other provincial Chinese, I was looking forward to a place branded the best in Baton Rouge. It was sub par, maybe good for BR standards but awful by any other. The steamed dumplings were ok, the sauce making the dumplings but needing more vinegar. The General's chicken (not a true Chinese dish) was flavorless and bready. The Kung Pao chicken was bland. The Mongolian Beef was alright, bur nothing I couldn't make at home.

Hunan is on my list of the greatest Chinese restaurants in town. I have to say that I've never had a negative experience here. The buffet is expansive, clean, and offers a wide variety of food. The soups are always good, too. This place is a great lunch spot, especially if you're with a group. If you want good, plentiful Chinese food, give this place a try!

I wouldn't recommend this place. The prices aren't that great for Chinese, and both the beef and chicken in the dishes we ordered were extremely fatty and flavorless with an oily texture. My fiance and I each got different meals. I got "emperor's delight" and he got "return of the phoenix" and both were very mediocre. The vegetables, shrimp and rice were a good texture and the "imperial sauce" on emperor's delight was pretty good. But...really the beef was especially horrible. It had NO flavor. If I was ever forced to go back here I would order a vegetable dish.

This place has gotten a bunch of bad reviews, but we tried it any way and I really liked it! The food was hot, fresh and tasted great. I'd definitely go back.

Here's a haiku for you: What happened Hunan? Was it the economy? Oversalted food In all seriousness, the food was overly salty (are they trying to mask something?) and there was actually some crawfish shells in one of the dishes, bleh. The selection is limited (around 10 dishes to select from) for a normal buffet, with two different soups: hot and sour and egg drop soup. There is also a dessert bar but I usually avoid that not knowing how long the fruit/jellos are out in the open. Hunan was known for its quality but it seems to be going down each year.

I just ordered this off my company's Major Menus restaurant of the day. I never had anything from here before, so I kept to a safe beef & broccoli meal. I was skeptical, but it was delicious! Well worth the money, would totally buy again.

I came here and I ordered some spicy sezchuan. I really like really spicy food, so I ordered it hot, and it was disappointing how little spiciness there was. The service was very bad and the waiter didn't refill my water a single time, despite us ordering two appetizers and a main course meal. I had to ask twice to get him to refill it. Also the entire place is filled with pictures of the owner with people he has met...ego issues? I heard the buffet was good, but I don't like to stuff my face, so I'd assume its on par with the food I had the one time I went.

This is the only Chinese buffet I will eat in Baton Rouge. It's way better than Great Wall. It's not amazing, but if you are looking for a Chinese buffet in BR this is the place to go.

Hunan's is the best "sit down" chinese restaurant in Baton Rouge in my opinion. Everything I've ever gotten has come out hot and flavorful. I particularly like the shrimp with chinese vegetables and their pork fried rice. It stinks that you can't substitute the fried rice for white rice but it's definitely worth the additional charge. *Note I've only eaten dinner there, I don't know about the quality of their lunch buffet.

Great food and probably the best service I have had in Baton Rouge. I will definitely go back. The restaurant is a little dated, but the staff and food made up for it!

Ok. Hunans is THE best Chinese food in Baton Rouge. Although I have only eaten the Sunday buffet, it is still THE BEST.

Hunan's used to be great, and in some aspects, they still are. The food still comes out quickly, the hot and sour soup is some of the best in town, and the staff is efficient, attentive, and friendly. However, the last 3-4 times I've been, including tonight, I've ordered my spicy food "extra" spicy and it comes out extra bland. One of my fellow diners tonight ordered his dish mild and it was many times spicier than my order. The waiter did bring me some spicy pepper in oil to add to my dish, but I shouldn't have to ask for that when I specified from the outset how hot I wanted my dish. Aside from that, the quality of the chicken is very sub-par. Both of the chicken dishes at our table were made of tiny bits of dark meat diced in an odd fashion. I get better chicken at the various cheap take-out places around town.

ok...just because i worked here for ~2 years, it does NOT mean that I am biased! For an American influenced Chinese restaurant....they are one of the best that I've encountered. Til this day, they make the BEST Tangerine Beef and General Tso's chicken. Lomein is great and so is the Fried Rice. It is a white table cloth place during dinner but the prices are pretty decent. They don't have the variety that you would find in Houston or New Orleans, but their quality of food is fresh. I've worked the expo shift along with the takeout shift, so I've seen the stuff that comes in and comes out. I was originally hired as the hostess, which I didn't mind doing at first, but I found myself being underpaid.....especially when they had me managing the place when the boss's daughter went to China to visit her Husband..oops..TMI....anywhoosers...the food here is great....I would love to get the tangerine beef fresh on a plate again..but since I left on bad terms....I will definitely have to do takeout the next time I am in Baton Rouge.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
