This is kind of the in between from Wahada and Tsunami as far as sushi in Baton Rouge go. If I want schmancy and sexy we go to Tsunami for cheap great quality we go to Wahada for in between we have gone to Hello Sushi. It is a perfectly good place to have sushi but if I am doing the lunch thing then I prefer to go the Wahada. This place does serve up some interesting rolls that you might not find as far as flavor combinations go and usually the young hip college kids frequent here since it is close to campus. It is a perfectly good sushi option just not one I prefer.

Jonny Roll & the Death Valley roll were very good. Service was great but prices for the amount of sushi you get is a bit off. Waka House is still my favorite in town.

Admittedly, I am an "Americanized Sushi" type of girl. I don't go for the sashimi and I don't care for salmon. That being said, Hello Sushi is my absolute favorite sushi place in Baton Rouge. When I lived there, I used to take many trips there and now that I have moved away, I crave it and must get it when I come in town. My all time favorite roll is the Bon Temps Roll. You can't go wrong with it. Other rolls that I'll order are the Rock 'n Roll, Johnny Roll, and crunchy roll. I am also routine on the appetizer I get here but only because it is so good - do yourself a favor and order the Sushi Egg Roll appetizer. The service here has always been prompt and there is ample parking. A great meetup spot.

After waiting for an hour at Walk-On's, the Cajun place on the other side of the parking lot (they "don't take reservations" but it was so crowded we couldn't even stand inside - ugh), one of our party of ten ran over to Hello Sushi to see if they could seat us. They could, so we ditched those Walk-On's jerks and went to get our sushi on. They were super-friendly, the service was fast and thorough, the beer selection was better than most BR restaurants I've been to, and the food was great. I got three rolls, including the awesome Go-Go roll and the wonderful Orleans roll (crawfish and asparagus, nom nom). Sometimes sushi restaurants don't give me enough to fill me up, but Hello Sushi had me stuffed after two of my three rolls. Plus, all of it came out to less than twenty bucks. Score! My mom, who doesn't "do" sushi, got the teriyaki chicken and said it was great. One tip: they don't do lunch on week-ends. We really wanted to order some of their sushi for my friend's bridal shower on Saturday afternoon, but they don't open until 4 PM. Booooo.

This is one of my favorite sushi places in BR. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The food is always tasty but not overly expensive. My husband and I usually share three or four rolls, maybe an appetizer, for less than $50 with tax and tip. Our favorite rolls are the Bomb roll and the Go-Go roll (but only if you eat raw fish)! We would highly recommend the steak teriyaki as well.

Great, convenient sushi near the South Gate of LSU. I've eaten here many times at lunch and dinner times and have never left disappointed. The lunch menu is full of options -- all less than $15 and closer to $10. Service is fast and the atmosphere and noise level in the restaurant is conducive to good conversation. When I visit for dinner I usually sit at the sushi bar and the wait staff and sushi chef are very attentive. I love to go on Sundays during the Saints games -- sit at the sushi bar, flat screen t.v. with the game mounted on the wall above so I can watch the game, try things off the menu and swallow I all down with a cold Sapporo.

We tried out Hello Sushi for Restaurant Week and were not disappointed! You can't beat $20 for 3 courses. For appetizer, I got the crabcakes and my husband got the Vietnamese eggrolls. Both were good. The star of the meal was by far the 2nd course! I had the Who Dat roll and he had the Cajun roll. Wow! They were both so delicious. For dessert, my husband had the fried cheesecake and I had the cake balls. To be honest, I was already so full that I barely touched my dessert. What I did eat was rich and satisfying. My husband loved his. He's a cheesecake fanatic so he was very happy to get his fix. Overall, we had a great experience at Hello Sushi and we'll definitely be returning. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very attentive. I highly recommend taking advantage of the Restaurant Week menu soon!

We made our way to the Burbank location to try out the raved about, new menu. We asked the Chef, Cong, for his suggestions and he brought out the new creations. Everything was so good! Im craving it right now as I'm writing this review. Everything looked beautiful in presentation and it definitely showed in taste. A little work needs to be done to the spicy miso ramen, I felt it was on the bland side but I know they'll work on it and this place will be ready to go!

American sushi is about the best way I could explain this place. Nothing seems authentic. Service is fine, but there are better options for sushi in Baton Rouge.

The sushi comes out really fast and the food is great. Music is a good mix of alternative pop. Service is really friendly and it's fairly inexpensive. Convenient location

Quality of food is decent. I enjoy eating here. I love the theme in their advertisements and their menus! Very happy and exciting! Best sushi in the LSU area without having to make a long drive elsewhere in Baton Rouge.

Menu option is thumbs up! Chef Cong does an amazing job with the variety of dishes! Take a seat at the bar and allow Chef Cong to whip up his creative dishes. Definitely ask him for the geisha w/a flare!! You will not be disappointed in any of his recommendations! Burst of flavor and the presentation is impressive.

We are from the San Francisco Bay Area where there are quite a few good sushi restaurants. Hello Sushi definitely rivals the sushi restaurants at home. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the food was inventive. The tuna crisps were to-die-for. The rice-less Geisha roll was unlike anything I've had before, and it was so fresh and tasty. The salads with sashimi (like the seafood salad and the ceviche salad) were flavorful and crisp. We really enjoyed the Thai beef salad, which was expertly seasoned. We would highly recommend this restaurant to sushi lovers and even to those who don't love sushi because the menu has so much variety.

This place is FANTASTIC. I went there for the first time this weekend and have never been treated so nicely in a restaurant. The owner was always around asking us how we liked our meal and if we needed anything. Not to mention that the food was absolutely superb! I love how their menu isn't the typical sushi menu and that they have a lot of variety with flavors and ingredients. From my experience, definitely the best sushi place in Baton Rouge, and I love how it's so close to the LSU campus! It's also cheap enough for a college student's budget, so A+++ to the new owner and I can't wait to go back!

Amazingly good sushi and wonderful wonderful service! Our server was Austin he was very good and paid attention to details! Jenny the greeter was wonderful as well! The owner even came by and made positive suggestions! This place is a must do if you love sushi!

One of the better places in town. I used to come here before I moved out of state and the food was great. I recently came back and was surprised how many new sushi joints popped up. I came back to eat here today - a little overpriced than before - but it was still as good as I remembered. Johnny roll is the best. Update: I ordered my food through yelp and when I arrived it was there waiting for me with a nice woman who thanked me for my review.

Back again with customers want in sushi in Baton Rouge. Great location at LSU- fresh sashimi, good chef! Hidden in the corner of a strip on campus. Taught my buddy how to eat sushi like I do at home with my Chef Mozer Tan! Chef Cong here will take care of you!!! Ask for what you want and you will recieve.

I come here for happy hour sometimes, which is great! From 4-6 you get 2-for-1 wine, beer, and sake. I'm a vegetarian so I can't speak for the fish sushi, but I love the vegetable roll, the egg sushi, and the teriyaki tofu appetizer. The tempura veggies are also fantastic and you get a lot for not much money! I also love the modern decor and the game on the coasters is pretty fun :) I haven't visited any other locations but this one is very clean and the servers are nice.

I recommend the hello sushi salad, I'm not a big salad person but I am constantly craving this salad. The crabstick salad, and squid salad are also delicious! They're always fast and good. Definitely recommend

We LOVED our experience at Hello Sushi. The classic dishes were delish but I was really impressed by their original rolls. There were many rolls I had never seen at any Sushi restaurant. Everything was wonderful. We ate: Fried Mushrooms Hellopeno Poppers Seaweed Salad Wasabi Salad Veggie Tempura Rolls: Kick Nick (for the upcoming LSU game) Johnny Roll Veggie Roll Sumo Roll I recommend all of these dishes! I was so impressed by this restaurant. All of the little descriptions of the rolls on the menu were cute and the atmosphere was great. I enjoyed the sushi here way more than any sushi places in NYC.

If you're in the mood for sushi, take my advice and head over to Hello Sushi. I have never been disappointed with a meal at this restaurant. Great atmosphere, innovative menu, and fresh ingredients. Who could ask for more?

Their website is just plain out fun. For some reason I never thought of them as a place where you could order online. The green mussels are the best thing that I've tried there yet. Small portions maybe- considering it is located are near a college campus. They do have a few items that are delicious. Since my last review, I've heard the quality has gone down quite a bit. I apologize if anything wasn't as I stated.

I went here last night with a friend. She's from California, I'm from New York City, so we're both used to really good sushi. Hello Sushi was my 2nd sushi experience in Baton Rouge, with my first being Tsunamis. Hello Sushi is designed to be more young and hip. The menu is quite varied and includes a lot of different tastes that I'm not used to being in my sushi. Some rolls had pineapple, mango, or even pecan-crusted shrimp. My partner in crime and I tried 4 different rolls that seemed a little different than we are used to, and we were pleased. While a couple of the rolls I probably wouldn't get again, I still thought they were really fresh and made well. I guess I'm just not used to the sweet kick of pineapple in my sushi! It is a little pricy. We split the 4 rolls and I got a miso soup and my bill came out to over $50. But I would go again because the food was good, I like the atmosphere, and the service was really great.

Great sushi at a reasonable price for the average college student. I ate here once a week when I was at LSU. The rolls - all have unique names - are delicious and combine interesting new flavors as well as the traditional ones. The jalapeno poppers are good, the salads are good, the tempura is great. I loved getting a green tea or a Japanese beer with my meal. They do take-out too!

I'll admit, I was a complete skeptic of this place because I had little faith in Baton Rouge sushi and the fact it is affectionately named "Hello Sushi." However, after having tried the leftovers of a Spider Roll and California Roll, I was completely hooked. Somehow after two days the rolls still tasted fresh and the soft shell crab was still super crunchy, just enough to get me on a sushi high that I don't experience too often. I learned that while the lunch prices are reasonable, that this place can add up with just a few rolls. Its geared toward a college crowd, though I hope they can afford splurging here with the city's 9% sales tax. With the array of rolls and variety this place has, I am definitely coming back to give this place another try and am ready to down more of their unique roll combinations.

I lived in the condos right behind this place and Hello Sushi was a take out staple in my college days! The fish is fresh, the prices are good, and there are lots of innovative concoctions. In fact, I still look for a rendition of one of their salads at almost every sushi place I visit... no luck yet though. There are also plenty of cooked items and fusion items - something for everyone here.

Great quick lunch. Had miso and ginger salad. Both were better than average. Ordered salmon lunch special. Nice sized portion and incredibly tasty. Not cheapo dried out lunch serving. Well worth it going there just for the salmon. Also ordered a side of yellowtail maki. Very fresh and nice size portion as well. I would recommend it if in the baton rouge area. Coffee at cc's right down the row in the strip mall. Bonus.

Being from NYC, I haven't enjoyed a lot of the restaurants I've dined at in Baton Rouge. However, Hello Sushi has changed my whole perspective! The food here was some of the best I have ever had. From the ambiance to the amazing dishes created by Chef Cong, this sushi restaurant is a must go to spot for anyone living in Baton Rouge!

I am in Baton Rouge for several weeks and was on the lookout to find a sushi restaurant to fulfill my needs while I'm here. I eat sushi at least twice a week, so I'm looking for a good sushi restaurant. As from a fellow reviewer, "young, hip, trendy", those are ways I would describe Hello Sushi too. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. If only a restaurant could survive on those things alone. I consider the sushi to be OK at best. Although the menu was creative and intriguing, the sushi was lacking. We ordered the Angry Charlie Roll and the Naruto Roll, nothing exciting. The best thing we had was the Tuna Tataki and the miso soup. I might try it again, but I'm not rushing back. Maybe I just didn't order the right things. Still looking for great sushi in BR.

I like this place but its definitely not the best sushi I've had.

    (3)
  • Ryan W.

This place has the freshest, highest quality fish I've had anywhere. Even better than most places in San Francisco. Only 2 places come close: Shushi Sho in Berkeley and Sushi Brothers in New Orleans. Plus, how can you not love the obnoxious modern trendy japanese decor.

  • Amanda S.

Sushi here is consistently good, but there isn't anything overly special about the rolls. Their signature app. is the sushi pizza, it takes a little longer then the other apps, but is a special treat that you won't find at any other sushi place here or anywhere else. The prices are fair and the staff is always super friendly. One added bonus is they always have decent music on, none of that elevator crap here. They have two locations, one on Highland and one near LSU on Burbank. I prefer the one near LSU. They're great for to-go orders as well. As far as entrées go, they aren't bad, but not great.

  • Chris V.

Hello Sushi is a decent sushi restaurant with good service, reasonable prices, and a very good atmosphere. The sushi here isn't the best, but it is still fresh and flavorful. It is especially convenient if you would like to pick up sushi to eat at home, as take-out orders usually take no longer than 20 minutes to prepare. Dine-in orders take a little longer, around 30 minutes, but if you have the time, the restaurant has a very relaxing, laid-back dine-in environment. This is a great restaurant to eat at!

I heard there was a new owner so my friend and I decided to check this place out. Can I tell you the sushi was so fresh and the food was amazing! I've been here several times since then. The first time we ordered off the menu, Geisha roll and Death Valley roll. The Geisha is still one of my favorite- lots of fresh fish on soy paper. The Death Valley had a lot of fishes too and it's a bigggg roll. We had also order the Sexiest Man Alive roll, the roll really lives up to its name. So delicious! Another time we came, the head chef- Chef Cong, made us whatever he wanted and everything was on point! Fish was fresh, plates were very creative (I've never had feta cheese with sushi but it works!), and so delicious. I highly recommend sitting at sushi bar! Definitely will become a regular here.

The only positive parts of my experience were my friendly server and the edamame. I was very disappointed in the sushi rolls. The rolls were small and poorly put together. There appeared to be very little care in the preparation of what was put in front of me. I had to reluctantly accept these rolls because of a short lunch break. I WOULD NOT choose to dine here again. I have gotten better sushi rolls at my local supermarket.

Location of the restaurant is perfect as it is close to LSU. We were at the restaurant for a five course meal with wine/beer pairing for 6 people. The service and food was outstanding as was the pairing of drinks. Of the five entrees, I enjoyed the spicy soup, scallops, and the dessert the best - yet the sushi and steak dishes were fresh and delicious. Overall we left the restaurant wanting to return again.

This place was great. Our server named was Bee and she did such a wonderful job. She was knowledgeable of the menu items and explained them in great detail. She checked up on us often and had a great charismatic attitude. The appetizers tasted great and came out quickly. The chicken teriyaki is very filling and the chicken was tender and juicy. The sushi menu can be very overwhelming with all the options they offer. That's why I think I need a few more trips to try the rest. The cooks were great and sent us over complementary dessert. Even though I'm not Asian, the entire staff made me feel as I was family. Definitely will be going back again

The sushi here has a great variety and I enjoyed every bite of it. The way the food is put together is very creative and very appealing. Plus the staff here are so nice and chill. I'm definitely recommending this place to my friends.

Young, hip, fun, and delicious! Not at all the stuffy traditional sushi restaurant. My first thought was it has a San Francisco feel to it. The sushi here is great - I have yet to have a bad meal! The lunch specials are reasonable and the sushi chefs are always creating new specials of the day. I highly recommend the wasabi salad and the scallop skewers - amazing. It's also fun to fill out the scan-tron sheet when you order the sushi.

Hello Sushi is a really cool place to go to. They have a lot of neat sushi rolls (Rock 'n' Roll, Ninja Roll, Angry Charlie Roll, etc.) and the food is really good. I've never had a problem with waiters there either. Another cool thing about Hello Sushi is the atmosphere. It's near LSU so the decour is fun and loud but not tacky. There are TVs in the walls that play fun little artsy movies, screen prints on the walls and exposed air ducts on the roof. The sushi order form is a scantron form and the coasters for your glasses have little games on them. It's not only tasty, but fun too.

My wife's favorite Sushi resturaunt. (for her I'll rate it 5.. personally I'd tend more to 4 stars). First let me start off by saying the food is excellent. Very fresh and tasty. However the decour definately caters to the college crowd. (to me it looked retro 60'ish!)

This is convenient if you need a quick meal or takeout. The sushi is mediocre, but it's cheap so you can't expect too much. It's a safe bet but definitely not my first choice when I'm craving sushi.

Went to Hello Sushi today on lunch break from work and it seemed to be a fairly modern, nice space. I was planning to order takeout so was handed the full menu and a small menu of about 10 special items. I tried to order an item off the small menu and was told that only one item on that menu was available. Then I changed my order to something from the full menu and was told, after payment, that the item I ordered was also unavailable. I understand that sometimes menu items are out and not all staff are notified but there were no other customers in the restaurant and it just seemed they were a bit disorganized. And with such a short break it was a little frustrating. They did give me a discount for the next time I come in and apologized but it is not super likely I will return and get the chance to use the discount. However, the staff was friendly enough and I haven't had a chance to try the food so I may need to come back and try it.

Good sushi. Super friendly staff. I got the Johnny Roll and it was impressive. It's one of their Americanized rolls (it's huge and deep fried). It easily filled me up. Also got the sushi egg rolls and they were similarly tasty. The restaurant itself is clean and modern. It's kind of cafeteria/deli style seating. Overall a good experience.

  • Quinn W.

Probably the worst sushi I've had in BR yet. We sat at the sushi bar. The counter was filthy. Our server was unconversational and kind of creepy (he just stared at us.) The rolls were nothing to write home about. They were small. They barely held together. The cream cheese was bland. Wasabi game weak a.f. Other staff members were friendly, so I'll give them that. Needless to say, there are waaaaay better sushi places in BR.

I love this place! Not only is the sushi amazing, but the Pan Asian menu is incredible!!! I can't get enough of the Vietnamese egg rolls. I highly recommend Hello Vietnam as well! Great great great food!

GREAT Happy Hour right near LSU. 2 for 1 house wine, domestic beer, and sake along with half off several of their appetizers - my favorites of which are the fried mushrooms and the sushi egg roll. The sushi is always fresh and they usually have unique rolls for their monthly specials - check Facebook or the chalkboard outside before you walk in. My new favorite item is actually not a roll but the Wasabi Salad - a mixture of seaweed salad and squid salad in a wasabi dressing. DYNAMITE. Nothing fancy, but a great place for a quick lunch or an early dinner. Nice staff and sweet set-up with inside and outside seating.

Great environment and decent food. As an avid sushi eater, I can't give 5 stars because I've seen and eaten much better. But what I think makes it really great is the location and the environment and setting.
