Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I saw a sign for $2.50 margaritas on Wednesdays, I was hungry and thirsty and sold to the lowest bidder! All I wanted was a stomach that wasn't churning and a palette that was somewhat satisfied with a cocktail. What I got was fantastic service, excellent food, and a FREE margarita after praising the bartender! I had the chicken nachos and my friend had the enchiladas. You can't go wrong with either and don't forget your margaritas!

This is really not good Tex-Mex at all, there are no authentic flavors at all. I have eaten at other Tex-Mex restaurants in BR that are much better but so far nothing great. Service was average and the location did appear clean. The salsa is like tomato water and the traditional Tex-Mex chili gravy on the enchiladas was terrible. May try again, we shall see.

Consistently good food that's fast! All of the staff are welcoming and very friendly here, the chips (light and crispy) and salsa are great and the margaritas are pretty potent. A great place for lunch or dinner.

Mexican restaurants in Baton Rouge are everywhere but Casa La Vida never disappoints, have had the steak fajitas over 12 times and they are ALWAYS the best we've found. The service is always fast and friendly, the prices are fair and the portions generous. They have childrens menu with good selection, drink specials, and a menu that has something for everyone. Probably the last good restaurant in town without a 30 min+ wait on a Friday night. Try it and see for yourself

Very nice atmosphere with friendly staff. Everything is consistent here. I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food but there is a nice variety on the menu including non Mexican items. The food is reasonably prices and the service is fast and great. I do recommend it to you.

Great atmosphere!! Managers are really nice and the food is good. Margaritas are one of the best in town. The steak is really good and so are all the Quesadillas. If your order is wrong, the managers always make it right.

Don't let the small size and location fool you, this place is a hidden gem. We were not sure what to expect because of some of the mixed reviews, but I have to say the service was great, my tea glass never went empty and the food came out quick, even on a busy Friday night. The food was fresh, even the queso was great. We had quesadillas, both beef and chicken and they were great, kids had a burger and chicken and they are picky and enjoyed it. Since I am from Texas I am pretty picky about Mexican food. The prices were as expected and not bad, so I don't understand other reviews saying it was expensive. This is definitely worth a try!

Not impressed with the tamale plate. First, the tamales were very small. Most of the plate was rice and beans. The rice and beans have no flair. Now back to the tamales. The chili sauce that comes standard with any tamale was gritty and thick. I felt like I was eating a microwavable dinner. It just wasn't right. If you order the tamales dry or with chili con queso I think they would be a hit although they would be small. I'm gonna give this place one more shot...only because I like their chips and salsa and had a previously good experience. If I feel like I'm eating a TV dinner again you can bet I'll let ya know and I'll never go back...

I honestly don't understand how there are so many GOOD reviews for this place. My food was terrible. A dinner plate doesn't come with beans even if the menu says rice and beans. And oh by the way, the tortillas are not included with a dinner entre either. This is not good Mexican.

Coming from California we were wondering if we'd ever find good Mexican in BR. We hit the lunch special $6 to $11, and ordered a enchilada and two tamale plate, two plates actually, one with chicken and one with beef. My hubby ordered the Chalupa plate. The chicken enchilada was good, while the beef was ground beef and not remarkable. The tamales were excellent. The Chalupas were lightly fried, perfect in contrast to other places that over fry them. We also found the free salsa and chips delicious, and the guacamole ($1.75 side) great. We'll be back.

Hi, I just want to warn everyone that purchased any deals from this place. They will not honor the original dollar purchase on Bargain Bee or others after it expires. Living Socials and others at least give you your base purchase price back after they expire! Plus by the reviews here the food/service sounds bad , so maybe it was a good thing the deal expired, but I'm still out $12.00 bucks.....I feel this is chintz on their part..

I have been there many times. The food is good, not great. But the prices are fair. If the manager waits on you, his name is Nater, then the service will be good. Wednesday and Saturday they have $1.95 margaritas, very good. I enjoy the place and always see a lot of the same people there. It is definately worth a visit!
