Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

My parents live near this place, so when I came in town, we decided to grab a quick dinner here. Our food and drinks were great. Our server, Austin, was a total babe. We will definitely be back!!

This place was freezing inside. I would have asked to move outside but it was raining. The CHICKEN ROLLS are a healthy choice but they could have used a little more seasoning. It comes with a dipping sauce, however, I didn't like it. Eating it plain wasnt bad at all but I would have liked to dip baby dip! come on now dip! As for the chips and salsa-not my fav. I like it hot... Drink specials are a plus-I posted a pic. My husband didn't rave about his quesadillas but he ate them all. As for presentation of the food, I would give that 4 stars!

It is pretty hard to find great Mexican restaurants that live up to the ones in Houston. I mean I pretty much grew up on fajitas and enchiladas. So I was a little skeptical trying out Caliente, but it actually delivered with some pretty good food and great service. The location is pretty easy to access and the have ample amount of parking. It seems as if they have a drink and lunch special every day. On Sunday they have $3 Sangrias, which were pretty flavorful. They have red sangria with Cabernet or white sangria with chardonnay. I ordered a Pacifico draft, but the keg ran out while the bartender was filling my glass. I just decided to order a Dos XX, and the server Ryan still only charged me for the $2 price for the draft beer which was pretty nice of him. The food was also pretty flavorful and you do get a good amount of food for what you pay for. We had the chimchanga (ground beef) and I had the combination plate. I got to choose between steak, chicken, or ground beef for all three items with no up charge for steak which is the first time I have ever seen that. Everything we had was well worth the price, and the ground beef had a great spice to it. There were a lot of other items that intrigued me too, so I will definitely be back. Highlight of the meal: CHOCOFLAN! This is an off the menu item that our server told us about and for only $4 it is a great deal.

I have driven by this restaurant many times, as it sits between my house and my friend's apartment. This weekend, I attended a conference and several people wanted to grab something for dinner before the evening activities, so I suggested Caliente, as it wasn't too far from the conference center. I had the Quesadilla Especial, which was cheese, chicken, spinach and chipotle sauce in a folded-over tortilla. I am not sure what type of cheese they used, but it paired well with the spinach and chipotle. I think that anyone looking for an interesting quesadilla should give this one a try. As far as portions, I was satisfied, but I also ate lots of chips and salsa before my entree made it to me. The chips and salsa were adequate: not great but not bad. While I am already writing about the chips, I want to mention that they have a policy I have never encountered before: only the first bowl of chips is free, unless you make a purchase of at least $5.00. I understand the reasoning for this, but I have never seen a policy like this in the hundreds of Mexican restaurants I have tried in my life. The atmosphere attempts chic, but just misses the mark--maybe due to the large specials board hanging on the wall. For a restaurant that appears to be attempting a hip atmosphere, the menu is surprisingly limited. Though I found the breadth of choices underwhelming, there were a surprising number of dishes that piqued my interest, so I will be returning to try them. My list of things to try so far are the Pollo Caliente and the Chicken Rolls (I'll update as I get back there to try them). Overall, if you are out on this side of town, and want to try something interesting, I would give it a try. On a personal note, when I tried to visit their website to refresh myself on some things, I had a lot of trouble getting it to load.

I've been here several times and always have a decent time. The margaritas are pretty good- nothing special but not bad either. If you come mid-day, the margaritas are warm if you order them on the rocks...The strength also varies and I've had ones where I had to order an extra shot to add to it and ones that are just right. They're also often out of certain flavors (peach, raspberry, etc). My boyfriend usually drinks beer and every time he's gotten a bottle (of something common like bud light) it's always been expired. However, the chips and salsa are great and the other food I've had (quesadilla, cheese enchiladas, and taco salad-- I'm a vegetarian) are good. I'll keep coming back for the good happy hours!

After reading the reviews of this place, I was excited that I live so close! When we arrived, the place was packed! After a short wait, we were seated. We ordered some drinks and a queso. We got the chips and about 10 mins later we got the queso. We were informed that it would take another 5 mins on chips. It was actually 20 mins. I ordered the street tacos. There were supposed to be 4 but only three came on the plate. It was served with a black bean "soup" which was just watered down black beans. I was very disappointed with my experience. Maybe they were too busy. Who knows.

Margaritas are good and strong! They have live bands on Friday nights (or they did when we went. It was a throwback 90s night and it was amazing.)

Not the worst, but far from the best. I went for lunch, and everything was lackluster. The $5 lunch deal is pretty good, but I wouldn't stray far from that.

Chef Raul food is amazing real traditional Mexican food. Love having these in Louisiana after living in Mexico for 4 years and eating real Mexican I just can go back to Texmex food.

The food there is pretty good and they have good drink specials, but the service has been terrible every time I have gone. My most recent time was exceptionally bad. Half of my table ordered drinks and they all came out at different times, some of which took twenty minutes. Then we had to ask on five different occasions for more chips and salsa, which took twenty minutes to get to the table. There were constantly empty drinks on the table and everything we needed took way too long. At the end of the meal, we waited for a long time for the checks and then again for the checks to be processed. The service definitely affected the experience in an extremely negative way.

This place has certainly improved since it first opened, when the service and food was subpar. It continues to be my go-to happy hour because it's close to where I live and very affordable. Now, even better, the food is good too! Their queso, one of my main criteria for a good Tex-Mex/"Mexican" restaurant, is quite delicious. The salsa is good, too, although fairly typical. Chips come out hot. I had the Mexican eggrolls last time (a serving of 3 eggrolls cut into halves to make 6 pieces), which are eggrolls stuffed with tender chicken, black beans, cheese, and maybe some veggies of some sort (onions? peppers, maybe...). At $9, they're a satisfying choice for an appetizer that's a little unique. Their frozen margaritas are decently strong, and they have a variety of flavors (mango, raspberry, strawberry, etc.). The service still leaves a bit to be desired, but overall it's good enough. They have a huge patio area that's great for nice nights, plus some pretty decent live music. It does get pretty loud in there because it's a popular spot for large groups of LSU students (generally there are multiple birthdays being celebrated on Thursdays or Fridays). I'd recommend it for the atmosphere and drinks over several other Tex-Mex places in the city, with its food placing it somewhere in the middle of my (extremely well thought out, obviously) rankings.

So, when the steamed veggies are ten times better than the shrimp entree I ordered it is really saying something. The service was so slow I was kicking myself for not leaving earlier. The restaurant was dirty and depressing. Ugh. I was so excited to try Caliente. I had such high hopes based on their presence at our BR yelp party. Gosh, was I disappointed. The quesadillas were what brought me in the day after the party but guys... Service was just terrible. Our waitress never smiled...not once. We were the only people in the place which I suppose should've tipped me off. Don't come here. Just don't.

Nothing bad to say about this place. Not the best mexican to get in town but they certainly know their tex-mex. Went with the quesadillas especial and a 20oz mango/peach margarita. The marg was fruity but had a decent kick for sure. I'm a big fan of their chips and salsa. Our waitress knew her stuff as she laid down some successful suggestions that my friends were please you satisfied with. Cool place all around and great for either dinner or daytime foolery. I will definitely return.

These guys were at the Yelp! Rock n Roar event last night and showed up with mind-blowing buffalo quesadillas! Made and grilled right in front of you, it was hard to not drool. Just got enough to enhance the flavor, but not have you grabbing for a glass of milk. The ranch dipping sauce was a perfect complement.

Went in for dinner last night with my Husband, ready to eat the Kabob Tower. Needless to say we were very disappointed 10 minutes at our table and no one came to even say Hi! I can understand if we got there at 9:30 when they close at 10 or if they were extremely busy BUT: we got there at 8:10 and they had a total of 5 tables inside occupied! When we passed by the Hostess that sat us she didn't say Goodbye or Thank Us! So we went across the street to Mike Anderson's. Not cool guys, not cool.
