Tried the boiled shrimp, soft shell crab po boy, and a salmon filet with dill sauce. All of the items were fantastic! The owner Michael Smith was in the kitchen cooking the food. Will definitely be back next time through Alexandria.

I ordered the shrimp po boy and it was absolutely delicious. The bartender was extremely friendly and it had a comfortable atmosphere. My only complaint was the price. For a po-boy and french fries it was $12.99 which I thought was a bit high.

The food is only the tip of the iceberg for Robbie G's. The staff takes the cake. We were on a road trip across country from New York to Los Angeles. A random yelp search for seafood took us off of the highway and onto Jackson Street. When I say the service was impecable from the moment we walked in the door, I mean it. We were welcomed, our waitress sat at our table with us to explain some of the menu that we were unfamiliar with, then gave amazing recommendations. We had the crab cakes basket, a pound of steamed shrimp, a fried oyster po boy, and fried catfish platter. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS!!! If you pick this place, bring your appetite and a smile. Thank you all for the experience.

Extremely inflated prices since our last visit. $12.99 for a poboy that had just enough roast beef to cover the bread. That price also doesn't include a side. A child's chicken tender (3 tenders and fries) was $7.99. The poboy tasted just fine, but you have to make sure not to put too many of the toppings on it for the sake of drowning out the taste of the meat. Looked back on our receipt and also realized we had been overcharged by a few dollars. Probably wouldn't go back since this isn't the first bad experience I've had (previously experienced reheated frozen crawfish).

I ordered the grilled shrimp po-boy $11.99. I only a few words to describe this mess. Seven salty and very chewy shrimp (I had to rinse the salt off of the shrimp) . No way was this worth the price I paid. No plans to return.
(2)Kelley S.
Absolutely delicious fried seafood and coleslaw. The onion rings are highly recommended. Closes at 9 pm (not 10 pm like the Yelp website says.
(5)Amy T.
Great food! Stopped by for lunch on our way home. Had the shrimp po boy, crawfish po boy and crab cakes. All were delicious. Extremely fresh bread and vegetables. Loved the homemade onion rings. Definitely will stop by on next trip to New Orleans or Destin.
(5)Brandon F.
Just moved to Alexandria and was craving a shrimp Poboy. It was fantastic. I will definitely be a regular!
(4)Natalie J.
Get a po-boy y'all! The one and only place I'm going for a shrimp po-boy. Also, when crawfish is in season, BE THERE.
(5)Bridget P.
Excellent crawfish and bread pudding!Probably the best bread pudding I've ever had. Friendly and attentive staff + awesome food = great experience!
(5)Walter E.
Excellent service and properly seasoned Cajun dishes. Waiting time was normal for a busy restaurant . Planning to go more often.

Oh my, I didn't know where to go get a po'boy and a cold beer. Luke h's review inspired me to venture to Robbie G's. First off I drove past the place twice. The sign didn't seem to pop out at me, but there was also a lot of traffic for the ball field right behind it. I pulled in and parking was a breeze in the rustic little gravel lot. The building wasn't anything spectacular but it was a solid cleanish looking joint. Stepping inside I didn't see anything regarding seating so I went up to the counter just to ask. I think the waitress was pleasantly surprised I didn't just plop myself down. She quickly gave me a menu and asked for my drink order. I asked what they had for beers and she didn't know an exact list so I narrowed it to what was from Louisiana. Several abita offerings and a pilsner called Covington. I opted for the Covington. The table had a heaping basket of peanuts and I got cracking and tossed the shells right on the floor! The place was near minus the shells and the metal folding chairs. To eat I ordered the oyster po'boy ( I am incredibly allergic to shrimp, otherwise I would have gotten that.... Not being able to have shrimp or crab has so far been my biggest challenge to eating in the south). They didn't really have sides other than fries so I got a small curly q fry order. Within minutes I was present with a huge sandwich overflowing with fried oysters ( I counted 8 of those huge suckers!) with al of the fixings on the side of the plate. I loaded it up with the tartar sauce like spread, lettuce tomato, red onion and pickle. The only down side was that the pickle was a spear, not chips which would have been easier to keep on the sandwich. Delicious. So good, the oyster were super crisp on the outside and perfectly cooked and still a bit briney on the inside. The fries were hand cut curly fries complete with specks of peel sprinkled throughout them. One thin I don't get about the south? Te styrofoam cups for everything!

Shrimp and oyster Po'boy. If you ask for it, they'll make it. Fried. Them seafoods were fresh. Flavor said fresh. Bite said fresh. They were covered in medium to light breading. A bit salty. Nothing famous or distinctive. I'll let them seafoods do the talking. Shake on a couple splashes of Tabasco. Now them little critters are singing. Harmonizing. The loaf is warm and soft. Crust is firm. The inside had a light toasty crunch. The parts to dress the sandwich are on the side. Tartar sauce was not any kind of usual. Sweet. Yes. The flavor made me think of perfume. Onion rings are red onion. Extra sweet and mild. Same crust. The rings never turned soggy. Generous portion. Maybe enough for two. Maybe. If the Po'boy was REALLY overstuffed, the maximum bang would have been achieved. That's inching to five. Pan francais with a crispy crust would be an automatic 5. I know a place on the River Road in Kenner that'll serve you a 5. Regardless. Robbie G has the answer for you right here and right now.

Service is on point! Crawfish is not too salty! Place to come for great atmosphere and great southern food.

Yummy place to eat when in Alexandria, LA. This was a fun and happening place. Fish was the best I'd had in LA.
(4)Liz R.
My 3rd stop in as many nights on the crawfish train, and I was still holding strong for pounds 11 through 14. 3lbs for $15.99, and they threw in an extra couple of potatoes because I said I liked them. Love the extra dry seasoning on the side for dipping. And more beer (the best thing to wash those lil' suckers down with). This place was pretty busy, and most people were eating things other than crawfish... so you know they're good at a variety of items. Casual bar interior. Another set of friendly staff. Large gravel parking lot to the side of the building.

Great fried catfish and shrimp. Waitress was very attentive and food was excellent. Would recommend this place for sure!
(5)Amanda S.
Drove way out of the way....on our way to Florida. They close at 2 according to this and according to their door but we were turned away at 1:30?!?
(1)Oz W.
Really good service here. I haven't had a shrimp po-boy in 2 years. Had one here! Amazing! tasted like back when i lived in new orleans. the onion rings were also excellent! highly recommend this place!

Robbie G's is an Alexandria, LA Institution! Ya walk in...peanuts cover the floor...sink on the wall to wash your hands, after you pick & claw your way through the mounds of the crawfish ya just chowed down on! Robbie G.s is very casual. You'll see white shirts, shorts & t-shirts, many locals, as well as tourists here. Lilly was the BEST waitress! She was fun, friendly & had some great menu suggestions. Hubby ordered the Grilled Shrimp PoBoy....WOWZZA! I ordered the friend shrimp basket...the shrimp are HUGE & delicious! Daughter ordered the fried Catfish....Yummmola! Son ordered the Shrimp PoBoy...delicious, as well! Daughter-In-law ordered the Grilled Shrimp....FYI...Very Very Spicy! We were so glad we picked Robbie G's...thanks to Luke H.! This little Hole In The Wall made a great impression on us. The food is great, the place is interesting & the wait staff (especially Lilly) is lots of fun! We will definitely always stop at Robbie G's on our way to Baton Rouge to visit our family. We look forward to our next visit! PS Gotta try those Broccoli Cheese Bites next time!

If you're on the hunt for a typical Louisiana restaurant without any of the fuss, this is your place. Boiled crawfish is the cornerstone of Robbie G's. However, the catfish, fried tomatoes and poboys shouldn't go unnoticed. I am originally from the area but haven't lived here in maybe 8 years. I came back to visit my family and requested we stop here. Nothing like 3 lbs of crawfish to remind you that you'll never have food like this in Chicago. The prices are decent and the service is solid. There is even a convenient sink located in the restaurant that is just a sink to take off the crawfish smell and that soap does a fantastic job. This places is family oriented with the picnic table setting and the laid back atmosphere. This place is a hidden gem and always a good pick.

Great relaxed atmosphere. They have peanuts on the table waiting and ready when you arrive. Fantastic menu... grilled seafood, fried seafood, poboys, etc. Tough choice but I went with a Crawfish Poboy over the Shrimp Poboy. I thought it was a little light on the crawfish for the price but otherwise it was very good. It comes with tartar sauce (which was great!), lettuce, tomato and a pickle. I enjoyed it. Robbie G's is well worth a stop!
(4)Stan T.
Servers were great. Food was not my favorite. Little hole in the wall place. Glad I gave it a shot but probably will not miss it if I don't go back.
(3)Nancy F.
Fabulous food! This is the real deal. If you're looking for real Louisiana seafood, this is your place. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five stars, is that the bathrooms are outside and not very nice. But the food is fabulous and worth your time.
(4)Jacob I.
Great catfish, crawfish and southern hospitality. Opened up 30 minutes early for us when we were passing through! Will be back!
(5)Luke H.
Best Grilled Shrimp PoBoy in Louisiana/USA/World/Universe. If Robbie G's was in New Orleans, it would have been on every major Food Network show by now. It is dirty...yet clean. Casual...yet can provide an exceptional date night experience. Hole in the Wall...yet institution. Great regular menu with items like duck, soft shell crab, grilled (charbroiled) shrimp, and fried pickles and Robbie G's also has all of the seasonal indulgences, ex. boiled crawfish. Like the peanuts on the floor, the gravel parking lot, the reclaiming an old building, but I heart the drinks in Styrofoam cups.
(5)Andy J.
The seafood platter was better food and value than the one I got the night before at Tunks. I'll be back if I'm ever in town again.
(4)David I.
My wife loved this place. The people were very friendly and the food was great. We cant wait to visit again on our next trip
(5)Eric R.
Nice Cajun atmosphere. Crawfish and red snapper was slightly above average. Wish it would've been spicier. A little pricey for the amount of food you get.
(3)Borat S.
Typical Louisiana. Shabby place. Good food. The place has its own personality.
(5)shawna f.
Let me start by saying that the food is 5 stars. However as others stated the restaurant does have a beaten down dirty appearance, and yes you do have to walk around the back to use the bathroom. i would gladly experience all of these factors again for the food. I ordered the oyster dinner, and my husband ordered a grilled shrimp po boy. I did not specify that I wanted my oysters grilled so they were deep fried. The waitress gladly put in a changed order & did not charge us for the mistake (even though my husband nibbled on the fried oysters). Great service, food, and local "flavor."
(4)Chelsy B.
Hands down the best crawfish I have ever eaten! Their fried catfish was outstanding also! I can't wait to go back!!!
(5)Andrew S.
This is a quintessential authentic Southern cajun go-to place. Fried shrimp was delicious, and reasonable prices for dinner/drinks. Friendly staff, good service, loved the peanuts.

If you want to eat at a fine dining restaurant or even a CLEAN restaurant...then DO NOT eat at Robbie G's. This place is home of the "rednecks." From the peanuts scattered on the floor, to the small dining room that makes you feel "uncomfortably close" to the party next your table, ugly panel wood walls...this place makes you feel like you're eating at an OLD SHACK and you will pay TOO MUCH to eat here (the average combo is $22.00. Their menu specialty is crawfish (which is basically the ONLY reason people eat here), but there is also other seafood combos like fried shrimp and fries...but ALL combos are expensive and NOT worth the fact that you're eating in a small, dirty and UGLY SHACK!!!!

I wish I would have taken a picture of the place, but I think I can paint you a good mental image: Picture a small little restaurant along the side of a freeway in Louisiana. It's got a good 10 or so neon beer signs in the windows, making you think it might be a bar. The sign above it is an old Pepsi sign looks like it's been used for another restaurant but repurposed for use here - but the investment in updating it involved a thin coat of white paint and the word's "Robbie G's" spray painted on it. The outside paint job looks as though it should have been redone about 7 years ago. The restroom is around back, separate from the building. Inside it's all cheap wooden tables and chairs, with peanut shells scattered everywhere. The place feels slightly dirty, almost to the point where you think twice about actually eating the food, while knowing the food is probably going to be awesome. The wait staff is all very friendly, and calls you "honey". That's Robbie G's. It's also exactly what I wanted to find when I found out I was going to small tow Louisiana. My only regret was that I had BBQ for lunch and was still rather full from that experience. I went for the grilled snapper, which came out very well seasoned and grilled to perfection. It was served with coleslaw (very tasty), boiled potatoes (those are hard to screw up) and corn. Trust me - you won't be disappointed.

Definitely worth the visit. Boiled crawfish was great and the shrimp poboy was excellent. Fried pickles were ok, but their broccoli cheese bites were out of this world amazing!!! Would highly recommend! PS - Don't be scared of the outside of the building, it is one of "those" places you want to drive by without giving a second look but the food an atmosphere inside definitely make up for the outside's appearance! Big thank you to our waitress too, who took the time to answer all of our questions about the local cuisine.

If you are a city slicker looking for a divey restaurant experience then this will hit the spot. Excellent crawfish, shrimp poboys, soft shell crab, and fried alligator. Walking into this place, with peanut shells all over the floor, I felt that we were transported to some place in south louisiana along the bayou. You have to walk around back for the restrooms!
(5)Amanda E.
Food was great. We got shrimp boy boys with swiss cheese and the seafood gumbo was superb. Atmosphere is funny... shabby but with a degree of character. This should put it into perspective- the sign that indicates this is Robbie G's is literally handwritten OVER an existing and faded old convenience/grocery store sign. The only way you know it's not an abandoned building would be the packed parking lot. Well, there are few neon signs that make it look more like a scary bar than anything else. Once inside, expect communal seating picnic bench style with peanuts on the floors, dust on the sills, and a bathroom "'round back" across a mud puddle... you get it.
(4)Groundresonance C.
Good food and friendly service. The boiled shrimp have a lot of flavor and a little kick to them. The oyster poboy had a decent amount of oysters, but the shrimp poboy could've used a few more shrimp. In both cases, the roll was nicely grilled or toasted with butter, which I like. The gumbo was enjoyable, but might be a bit salty for some. I love the fact that you have peanuts on your table when you sit down and can start snacking right away. The curly fries that I had with my second poboy weren't very fresh or crispy or even flavorful (not enough salt?). This place is crowded and loud and messy with all the peanut shells on the ground. The bathroom looks like a neglected gas station bathroom. If you are looking for a nice, clean place, you best keep looking. If you want good food and a fun time, this is your place.
(3)Steven B.
A great place for seafood. I especially like their fried pickles. You can probably get better seafood elsewhere, but the folks at Robbie G's are so nice and the atmosphere is fun. Also, great sweet tea!
