The environment deserves five stars alone. I would recommend going at night to get the whole vibe. It's a low lit Irish pub that's clean and very chill when there's not a lot of other customers. Great selection of beer and liquor and modestly priced. Wish I could go back to this place but I'm not sure if I'll ever be in Alexandria again. I highly recommend!

Actually looks like a real Irish pub. Best beer selection in town. Regularly have live music. One pool table in the back. A little bit of a "hipster" crowd. Mostly a 30 something year old crowd. Located in downtown Alexandria a block from the Red River.

You know it is saying a lot when the mere existence of a business in town enhances the quality of one's life. Finnigan's Wake is such a place. It is run well, from the top to the bottom. All of the bartenders are friendly, especially Melissa. Finnigan's Wake attracts a diverse group of people from different backgrounds and walks of life. However, it all blends well. The patrons are friendly, and that is part of the reason why people come as well. There is a fine beer selection. Guinness is on tap, and they do a modified slow pour. The only thing that is missing is a food menu. However, ownership lets you bring food into the bar, to help compensate for this. Again, they could not be friendlier. One of the best things is they seldom have live music, so this is almost always a place you could go to talk with friends.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I was in the area visiting family and an old flame invited me to check out this great bar. We got there at 3:30 p.m. (it opens at 4 p.m.), but decided to wait and it was well worth it. The bar conversation is stimulating and the atmosphere just blows you away. It's definitely the best bar in Alexandria, probably Central Louisiana. There is a myriad of beers and Melissa (I believe that's her name), the bar manager, has the utmost mixology skills. My old flame was almost rekindled because of the great time we had ... ALMOST. LOL. If you're in the area and have not visited this bar, you're missing out big time.

By far my favorite drinking establishment in town...I live in Geogia but travel to Alexandria bi-weekly on business. I am always looking for opportunities to get out of my hotel room. Upon the request of a customers I decided to check Finnegans Wake out and was plesently surprised. The atmosphere is great...something you would expect to find on River Street, Savannah or on the main square in Dublin, Ireland...not Alexandria, La....and let's not forget the drink selection. If you like good beer on tap this is the place to go. Above all, the social dynamic makes this "Pub" a five star rating. There is a very loyal customer base, but unlike many bars, the local patrons are very welcoming of newcomers. In my case I was traveling alone and it was obvious that I was the only stranger in the bar. By the end of the night I new everyone in the bar including the two owners.

This place is going to be here a long time--longer than many of its predecessors. So many bars have come and gone in Alexandria's downtown area. 'The pub' as most people call it, appeals to such a broad range of people. This has directly contributed to its longevity. It's like Alexandria's "Rick's Cafe American" from Bogart's Casablanca EVERYONE goes to 'the pub' from the working stiffs to the suits they all come at one point or another.

Pretty good pub for alexandria, with some decent local beer
