While I am not a big fan of all of that fried Cajun crap, Dupuys served up some very good FCC as well as a host of other pretty good dishes in a nice classy S. Louisiana atmosphere. Highlights of the meal were as follows: - Raw Oysters - fresh and good - Oyster stew - all right I guess - Fried Onion rings - Off the chain. Best rings I've ever had. - Fried Shrimp - OK - Fried Oysters - not cooked enough for my taste and a little greasy. - Casear salad - exceptional. Great dressing and fresh greens. - Bread pudding - very good. I could not stop eating it. While Abbeville is a bit of a hike from Lafayette, Dupuys is worth the drive. I would eat here again.

Dupuy's is wonderful!!! A short drive from Lafayette and suddenly you are in small town Louisiana. I'm a visitor so keep that in mind but...driving from the relative sprawl of Lafayette, arriving in Abbeville is like small town Louisiana from an old movie. Dupuy's is small and old and homey. We were seated and told our waiter we were visiting from California and would like some suggestions. Immediately he pulled a chair from a nearby table, spun it around and sat down to talk to us about what we might want. The manager noticed and he came over, sat down, and started to talk to us also. We got plenty of advice, not only about Dupuy's menu but also about the region. So friendly! We ended up with one of the best crabcakes I've ever had, crispy on the outside, tender and full of crab inside, a nice sauce. Followed that with a salad and then a bowl of great gumbo. Washed down with a very cold Abita beer. Can't get more Cajun than that! This is worth the drive. Don't miss Dupuy's, seriously. A hundred years old and going strong.

Welcoming and friendly local spot with decent food and a casual but comfortable environment. Crab cakes with cream sauce appetizer were so yummy and probably the best thing we had on a 3 day Louisiana trip! Alligator strips were fresh and delicately fried. We also ordered a grilled seafood plate with a variety of seafood that all had the same salty-ish seasoning and as a result all tasted pretty much the same. 3 side green salads were offered to us with our one entree for an additional .50 cents each which is unheard of in this day and age!

First time here. Immediately after walking in, the guy I was with said hi to some folks at another table, as well as one of the managers. When they talk about knowing your customers, this is one of those types of diners. The food was a good mix of what I'd expect from Cajun food. The portions were a good size, and the prices seemed to be great for what we ordered. While there were some platters that did have I high price, I suspect that those would have served more than just one person. I had some of the gator bites to start with, and didn't realize that the gater poboy also consisted of more gator bites. Not complaining, it was good food, just a bit of a fried food overload (my fault...) I really liked the sweet potato fries as well, could tell that those were fresh. Everyone else with me finished their plates, so I assume that they were either really hungry or liked what they had, but I'm betting the latter.

Started with the eggplant Dupuy, fried eggplant medallions with a lump crab and tomato cream sauce followed by seafood gumbo then broiled shrimp in garlic butter and white chocolate bread pudding for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the eggplant was amazing. Service was excellent. My wife and I split the eggplant appetizer, the shrimp and the bread pudding and there was plenty for two. The best Cajun we've had.

My personal favorites are the raw oysters (when available) and the alligator sausage (on a poboy or on a stick). However, I have been several times with different people and have not heard of a badly received dish yet. The ambiance of the place is also great. It's been around for a 145 years (as of 2014) and is a place you bring your family to celebrate anything-- or just to treat someone to great bayou food. There's something for tourists as well, with the alligator skull on display and the Cajun cookbooks on sale (I admit to picking one up the last time I was there). The only lament I have about this place is that it's in the heart of Cajun country, which is a detour from the route to any major Louisiana city. However, if you find yourself near Lafayette or New Iberia and can afford the time, take a trip to Abbeville. The city is wonderful, full of pure Southern hospitality, and the food is worth it. Oh, and sign the guestbook while you're there. If you never return, you made your mark. If you do, flipping through it brings back nostalgia of trips past. Look out for my signature too!

Finally had a chance to return over the Christmas holidays after a 10-year hiatus, and, yep, just as good as it always has been. My family and I ordered several dozen oysters (raw, Rockefeller, Dupuy, and deVille), and they disappeared in a flash! All were super-tasty and perfectly cooked (except the raw of course). My wife and I split the fried seafood combo so that we could get a bit of everything, and it was perfect. The fried catfish was perhaps the best bite of food I had on this trip - perfectly seasoned, perfectly battered, juicy and tasty. Dupuy's, know that you have a dedicated customer for life right here; now to figure out how to get back here more frequently!!

Don't miss the onion rings! We ordered shrimp and oyster po-boys. All was delicious! We did take out so I'm not sure how the service would be at the restaurant.

I recently went to Abbeville, LA for the first time to meet my GF's family (she is from there). When I suggested that we go out to dinner, her mom recommended Dupuy's. We got there around 6pm and the restaurant was already almost full but we were seated promptly. Heidi was our server - she seemed relatively new (she didn't know if the crawfish were frozen or fresh but she did check for me) but did a great job, especially with our "special request" cocktails. The food and service were amazing - Cajun cuisine has now shot up to #1 on my list! For appetizers, we ordered the Oyster sampler (4 each of Rockefeller, Deville and Dupuy) and a crab cake. Delicious! The crab cake was so good that I ordered two for my main course... My GF ordered the seafood salad and her mom ordered the crab cake Dupuy (served on angel hair pasta). We also ordered sweet potato fries and french fries, which were good but nothing spectacular. After I noticed their seafood gumbo on the menu, I ordered a cup - this was the only item that didn't impress: it was too salty and didn't have any Okra, which I was disappointed by (I thought Okra was an essential part of any gumbo). The restaurant manager was very nice - she walked around the room from table to table and made sure that everyone was happy. Overall, a great experience!! Dupuy's is not to be missed if you are within a couple of hours of Abbeville (driving, sailing or flying). I'm looking forward to my next visit there.

My "go to" restaurant for seafood. I became hooked on the oyster combo years ago. Lately, I've been enjoying the shrimp. It's all good. Their tee-shirts are even a part of my wardrobe. I wore one on a trip to south Georgia where a gentleman was so excited to see it; he told me he loved oysters and please, would I tell him where Dupuy's is. I thought he would cry when I told him Dupuy's was in Abbeville, Louisiana. In the summer, call before you go. Sometimes they close for vacation.

A true standout! You would be hard pressed to find an item on the menu that isn't note worthy. For an appetizer, I recommend either the seafood gumbo or the oyster sampler. The seafood gumbo is loaded with oysters, shrimp and crabmeat. This is one of the few gumbos ordered in a restaurant that i could compare to my mama's (please don't tell her I said so). If salad is more your thing, try the cracked peppercorn dressing which is made in house. It is the best house dressing I've ever tried. For a main course, the Bayou Tuna never let me down and the Eggplant Dupuy is great for all of you eggplant lovers out . The fried seafood is always cooked perfectly with a light crisp batter. The steaks are some of the best in town. If you're not too stuffed, try one of the homemade cakes. The coconut cake is great. I never have room though so I always have to take it home. I hope this review helps. Y'all enjoy!

Delicious hole-in-the-way spot for oysters and all things from the bayou. While it's not raw-oyser season in south Louisiana, their oyster plater was delicious and my co-diner had grilled veggies and a baked sweet potato that she said was delicious! The pan fried oyster had great flavor! It's definitely authentic, lots of locals!! we were definitnely the only out-of-towners at Friday lunchtime!

Best place to eat. The food is absolutely fabulous and the new bar area is the best thing that happen to Abbeville. Thanks Dupuys!!!

Awesome food and service. The waitress even mentioned they were "short handed". It's always promising when you have to hunt for a parking spot.

I have been going here for years! Go on Wednesday nights for the "All you can eat fried catfish" special. It's some Of the best fried catfish you will ever eat. Add one of their amazing stuffed potatoes to your order and you won't be disappointed!

can t say much about the food because we only had the oysters at the bar, but those oysters were phenomenal, large, lush, moist, sexy, briny, inviting, satisfying, orgasmic

Even though I am an Abbeville resident, I've always had a tough time finding an open spot at Dupuy's. The place is packed, but for good reason. This restaurant has a huge seafood selection and plenty of plenty of other salad/meat options as well. The classic shrimp po-boy is always well received as well as all of their chicken items. If you are feeling up to it, go for the grilled oysters, these cajuns know how to cook them. Dupuy's food quality is so good that it definitely justifies the trip if you are coming from outside of Abbeville.

Amazingly authentic rich Cajun cuisine. Gumbo, bisque, po boys, and dishes are on point. The creamy crab cakes will melt in your mouth. If you go for lunch you will need time for a nap!

Let me preface this with the fact that I don't really care for seafood. That said, I was with a group who did, so we stopped while passing through (based on the yelp reviews). Atmosphere and service were top notch, food was out of this world. I started with the crab and corn bisque, which was awesome because it had a kick (jalapeños I think?) and then a crab cake for lunch, may have been the best crab cake I've ever had; hot with great sauce and a surprisingly creamy center. Delicious. This place definitely deserves five stars. Everybody left satisfied. Side note: shrimp po boy was a huge portion!

So-so, portions are not great and there are some menu items to avoid, such as the grilled platter. Why? because it's the same battered stuff they would have fried, except they dry it out in an oven and call it grilled. Horrible. Other than that, don't order a mixed drink. My gin and tonic was not only weak, but the tonic was obviously not fresh and had no fizz left. Lime? No, should have thought to ask. Seating is very limited and they will jump you in line for certain people, apparently.

The food here is great! If possible save room for desserts! I have never been disapointed with a meal that I've had there.
