Great sandwiches and soups. Reasonable priced. Great place for lunch. Vegetarian options available, the best of which is their Santa Fe soup - a homemade vegetarian bean soup served with a side of corn bread. Clean with convenient parking. Has free wi-fi and call-in orders. Highly recommended.

Thanks to the previous Yelpers for reviewing this place...otherwise we wouldn't have stopped here on our way to the Red River Gorge...and I wouldn't have had the pleasure of eating one of the most delicious sandwiches I've ever had...which was the chicken reuben. I don't really know why the call it a reuben but regardless you should order one...it's awesome. Ordered the corn bread salad as the side and it was the perfect lunch. I also got some of their house made beer cheese to-go and it was delicious as well. Next time I'm headed to the gorge I'll be sure to stop here again. Great find and this is why I appreciate Yelp.

Tired of a plain ol' hamburgers, so Gaunce's came to mind. Great choice this evening as well as any time. Every time we choose Gaunce's we are satisfied. I love the philly sub and have to have a bowl of vegetable soup. All kind of deli choices. Soups, sandwiches and of course deserts. If ice cream is your poison, it's available too.

My husband and I decided to try a new restaurant...even though I liked my chicken salad. He was upset about his food. They got his order incorrect so after taking the food back to the counter(which took forever to get his food back) the soup was cold and the sandwich looked like they had just scraped the toppings, that they incorrectly put on there, off! So IDK that we will return. But at least we tried a different place to eat.

Not the Rueben I was hoping for . Not the best I have been to for sure. Sandwich comes by itself. I am sure it is high end for area. Growing up in Detroit metro I know what a good deli is . Was there with a customer who loves the place so I could not complain . They need to wear some hair nets in kitchen . Had a black hair stuck on my pickle . I would avoid this place.

Its been four years since I have been to Gaunces. It hasn't changed much inside. I oreded the Italian and soup combination (half sandwich, and bowl of soup); came with crackers, pickle. I ordered water to drink, and the cashier was caring enough to say there water doesn't taste good today and gave me bottled water at no additional charge. I have to say the staff has always been very friendly at this place, and I will say the food experience was very good, they let me sample the Santa Fe Soup and it was very tasty and loaded with beans and mixings. the sandwich came out actually a bit better then I thought I would experience at a fast food place like Quizno's or Penn Station for the same sandwich. They were a good chuck of people coming in after I was leaving, showing that others are regulars and happy with their service which I honestly thing is their pickle, good food and good service. Atmosphere was clean as well.

It was okay...not a place I will stop in again. I had the Inside Out Hot Brown and potato salad. I guess my sandwich expectations were a bit high. I have had delicious hot browns in the past and this sandwich was very loosely related but edible. The potato salad was sweet...again something others may like...I just did not care for it.

Gaunce's Deli is a Winchester hidden gem. They have great sandwiches and soups at a very cheap price. Good coffee, nice staff. and sell local items to boot. Love it.

The great country ham and superman ice cream are still here. The pickled pigs feet aren't. A former local grocery store that picked up and changed to a deli. Excellent food for the foodie wasteland that is Winchester. Try the Inside-Out Hotbrown with a side of Grippo's and an Ale8.

On 8-16-12 -- Once again we went Guances for dinner. Veg soup was good. Potato soup was good. Lady as register did not seem very attentive to her customers. Ordered potato soup, got bean soup. Several people in line, she shows no sense of urgency. I'll continue to go to Guances but tonight they didn't seem to be on top of their game.

We stopped here for dinner on our way to Lexington from dc. We were happy to have a healthier alternative to KFC and other fast food chains. It is easy to access from the interstate and looks much better in person than the posted picture. I got the Santa fe soup and half Greek salad. Soup was pretty tasty, but the cornbread that came with was bland and greasy. Salad was average but a little watery. My husband got the muffuletta, which came out on what looked like French bread rather than the traditional bread one would expect. But it was a decent sandwich with good flavor. All in all, this was a great place to stop while on the road.

Stopped for a healthier alternative to greasy fast food and picked Gaunce's based on other reviews. Very happy with our lunch. Dad had roast beef sandwich on marbled rye -- bread was gorgeous and the roast beast was the real thing, good quality. I tried the pork BBQ sandwich -- enjoyed half for lunch and other half for dinner. Good coffee, too. We're still working on the jam cake -- a little pricey at $25/half a cake (or $3/slice) but that's probably 12 servings of tasty cake with caramel frosting, worth a little more for an unusual treat.
