Great BBQ experience and close to home, it's a Win-Win!!! We had the Big Bone Balls, Ribs, and Pulled Pork with sides of Greens and Cole Slaw...it was all amazing! You can tell they cook with love of BBQ and use fresh ingredients, their sides definitely aren't out of a can!

After reading some really great comments about this place on Facebook, we decided to give it a try on Wednesday evening. The place looks great. I used to be a kind of run down bar. The owners have spent a lot of time and energy fixing up the place and it looks great. The whole place is non-smoking and that's a big bonus. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the Facebook comments or the decor. We got the Big Bone Balls which are deep fried mac-n-cheese balls. The were nice and crunchy on the outside, but the mac on the inside was mush and not very cheesy. They allegedly have bacon in them, but I couldn't taste it at all. We didn't finish them. I got the brisket sandwich. The brisket was sliced very thickly, I tend to like the brisket sliced thinner, but not a huge issue. There was a nice pink smoke ring around the outside, but the beef actually had very little smoke flavor to it. They brought two sauces to the table, mild and hot. The mild sauce was a bit sweet and definitely mild. The 'hot' sauce was not hot at all. It was a tad spicy but not very complex in flavor and was disappointing. We were also warned about the pickles that were served with our meal. They were nice dill pickles, but not really hot. They seem to have an odd definition of hot here. We also tried the quarter chicken. It was nice and tender with a good flavor. The baby back ribs were tasty and tender as well. Neither were really outstanding, but they were definitely adequate. The baked beans were way too sweet, felt like I was in Boston. The cole slaw was creamy and vinegary at the same time, which is something I really enjoy. I think they could back off on the celery seed though. According to the board outside it was half price wine bottle night. We tried to order a bottle of wine. The waitress seemed confused. She wasn't sure which brands of Cabernet they had and she had to go check. We picked one and then she brought us a couple of glasses of wine instead of the bottle. Not really sure what happened there. The server was very nice, even though she wasn't completely up to speed on everything. It did take longer than I expected for our food to come out, but not so long as to be annoying. Overall it was just an OK experience. I will give them another try after they've had a few more weeks to work out some of the kinks.

Pulling up, this had all the indicators of a good ribs joint---smoker belting out smoke, plenty of wood nearby, a disclaimer that they may run out of a certain meat (as opposed to another certain "ribs" place in Cincinnati that has all you can eat ribs promotion at certain times of the year), and a place that doesn't try to look fancy. It rather went downhill from there. Had the ribs as well as pulled pork sandwich. The ribs had the pink smoke ring and had the correct balance of tenderness yet remained on the bone . However, the exterior had no detectable seasoning-I could taste neither any rub nor any sauce. I don't necessarily need to have sauce brushed on, but if you're not going to apply enough/any rub, I figured you were at least brushing on some sauce. The exterior just had a bland charred flavor, distinguishable from a smoky flavor. Same with the pulled pork, I detected some smoke flavor in the meat, but the bark, my favorite part, had no detectable seasoning. The sauces were a regular/sweet and a hot. They were thinner than a typical tomato-based sauce, and truly were unremarkable---no complexity in spices detected in the sauce. Pretty much like a watered-down spicy ketchup. If the pitmaster/chef/owner could work on adding a nice rub to the pork shoulder and ribs, that would go a long way in bringing this place up to snuff.

It is with a great deal of sadness that I post this review. I wanted so badly to like this place. Its near my house and my son and I love BBQ. Our experience was not good. First of all when walking in,it is clearly a neighborhood dive bar. There's a lady at the bar nursing a drink and talking loudly to the " waitress/ bartender" about her moms sexual misadventures. The "waitress/ bartender" was way mote interested in her conversation than in helping us. If you remember Flo from Alice...that's the vibe you got. Not a big deal, I'm an adult, but not really what I wanted to hear or experience. The place is very old and doesn't appear to be all that clean, but a lot of great BBQ comes out of places like this. So on to the important part, the food. There are smokers going out back so we had high hopes. Those hopes were shot down quickly. As noted in another review, the meat has a nice smoke ring and is tender but has no flavor of smoke. I'm not sure how that even happens. Very bland without sauce. Which leads to the sauce. It is very heavy on the chili powder. None of the four people with me cared for it at all. I had read good things about their Mac n cheese. What we got was bland soupy cheese sauce with absolutely no taste. The simple addition of salt would have at least helped. And I am NOT a person who adds salt to anything at the table. I'm not a saltaholic. But SOME sort of flavor was desperately needed. The one thing that got a two star vote was the Cole slaw. It was actually very very good. But for $68 or 4 people ,its hard to get excited about cole slaw. I hate giving bad reviews but I also hate having someone be disappointed like we were.

When you drive by while the outside smokers are going and smell what's cooking, know that it tastes just as good. : )

Not impressed. I was hoping to find a nice, locally owned BBQ with great food. While the people are friendly, the food is not great. I had pulled pork and 1/4 chicken combo. The pulled pork just tasted like burned meat. It wasn't burned, but it was really the only flavor and wasn't covered up by the available sauces. The chicken was tender but not flavorful. Both meats had a nice texture and looked right but the flavor just didn't back it up. As far as the sides go, the fries were typical fresh-cut fried potatoes, lacking the crunchiness that's necessary. The best part of the meal was the coleslaw that was very average. As far as atmosphere goes, it's pretty typical small town bar like inside. The search continues.....

Our family had the 2 meat sampler (pulled pork and sausage and peppers. Another had just pulled pork and our kids had grilled cheese. I really liked the hot BBQ sauce. Great food. And better than average portions. I tend to use mild sauce, but their hot was not overly spicy, just enough heat. The surprise hit of the night was the chili. When I go back I'd try the chili cheese fries.
