My husband and I were visiting family (Lawrenceburg, Lexington, Taylorsville, Bardstown, Lancaster) this past week. My husband wanted crab legs - sister and her husband highly suggested Mordecai's; they've visited numerous times and love the crab legs. Right at $30 per person. BUT, it's crab legs that brings that price up. Though not a fan of crab legs - I had the buffet. Mostly fried seafood, but I focused my attention on the cocktail shrimp, which was wonderful. I also tasted the broccoli casserole. Unfortunately, the broccoli was all mush instead of a little crunchy like I like. No biggie. The service (Brandon) was EXCELLENT! Though it's a "help yourself" buffet, he always stayed on top of our drinks.Checking in frequently - but not 'bugging' us. Thank you Brandon for making our family dinner a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend this place for crab leg lovers (and shrimp lovers too). We've started a Mordecai's fund so next visit we hope to get our Dad to join us.

The lunch Buffett has a lot of options, service was average. Nice little place, but was not the most memorable. Nothing bad, just nothing that stands out. The lemonade was very good.

Ate here last week. 4 stars for the catfish, which my friends had. 3 stars for the frog legs which I had. Nice restaurant. Probably the best in the county. Country cooking. Small bar. That they had a smoking section at all was a bit of a shock, but it is rural Kentucky. Fortunately, we were seated in the non-smoking section and only got a wiff of the smoke when we walked back to use the restroom.

Fried food galore! I honestly would rate the menu a two, the atmosphere a two, the service a four. While driving around I did a yelp search for dinner, and its my fault- I didn't fully read the reviews. I read that someone wanted to live off the appetizers (perfect, we just wanted a few snacks), a librarian recommended it (I feel like might know some good spots), and that the service was great. Well, two strikes for us. Opening the multi-page laminated menu... the appetizers are all fried or loaded with cheese, the salads were mediocre, the entrees were mostly fried... There was nothing we wanted to eat. Since we went on a Saturday they did have the seafood buffet going, but we definitely weren't in the mood for $30 worth of crab legs and clam sticks. We debated just leaving, but decided to get the frog legs as an appetizer (its offered as a dinner plate but we just cut out the sides). As we waited our server brought us some rolls. Delicious, but butter had clearly been poured all over them. The frog legs were nice, she brought us a horseradish and a petal sauce to dip them in. The atmosphere was different than what the facade implies. The brick front set me up for a whole different experience, and I feel kinda cheated! That place could be so much more. Our server was great, super friendly, if she gets a job elsewhere I'd definitely go sit in her section.

Service was fantastic! Had the Rueben. It was only good. The meat was a little dry. Cute restaurant.

The waitresses who work at Mordecai's are sweet and lovely, the food I ordered wasn't bad at all, and it was clean (the ladies' bathroom could've had locks on their doors, though). This is one of those places that serves regular fare (a lot was fried).... like steak & chicken dinners, pasta, some seafood, frog legs... but the thing I ordered that rocked my pregnant-world-of-nausea was "Larry's Shrooms". They were a tasty sausage concoction baked into mushroom caps, topped with Monterey Jack cheese (I think!). I was hOngry and had been finding it hard to eat anything completely without getting sick of it.... but these things were GOOD. Their buffet seemed pretty fresh and the families eating there looked happy. The lady behind the bar was nice and they had a band preparing to play that evening. Apparently they are open until midnight on the weekends. My only plea with restaurants like these is that they get some fresher and more nutritious salad choices put on the menu. It seems like my only choices were of the iceberg lettuce variety, and all the local restaurants that I encounter that serve the regular Southern grub would jump up to great new heights on the "Happy Amber Scale" if they just had some yummy, vitamin-packed salads. Ex: spinach with walnuts, pears, celery and brie cheese OR local romaine with free-range chicken, grilled onions, crushed peanuts and a Thai peanut sauce. Good Lordy, I am making myself hungry. Anyhoo, I'm not sure of the rest of the restaurants in Springfield, but I would recommend Mordecai's. The food sure ain't bad and the service is friendly. :-)

I could live off of this place's appetizers. If elves made Christmas dinner as well as Christmas toys, they would definitely kick it off with apps from here. If you are in Springfield - go. I have only been for dinner, so can't speak to their brunch or lunch, but the food is pretty damn tasty. I will say, the appetizers to me are better than the dinner. Don't get me wrong, all the food was good, but we're talking quite good vs. freakin fantastic! Some stuffed mushroom stuff that was perfectly moist and flavorful, and these dynamite spicy shrimp had a similar texture to say coconut shrimp but taken up a notch. They are almost worth the hour drive from Louisville in itself. Yummy spinach dip and their cocktail with Maker's and orange and other things that aren't coming to me was also tasty. If you like bourbon, you'll love it and if you are borderline it isn't as bourboney as say bourbon and ginger. Any-ays. We had ceasar salad, grilled veggies, and roast, all good, but that bar was just set too high, so I had to take that 5th star. The atmosphere is very relaxed, not quite as fancy inside as I would think for the nice restaurant, but also very peaceful and not too stuffy, so I am a fan. A great date spot. Get the shrimp. Seriously.

We really loved this place. Our waitress was extremely friendly, and really took care of us. She was quick with the drinks, and ordering, gave us some friendly conversation, and we appreciated the smoking section. I had the Chicken Finger Platter which was nice and spicy, well cooked, my friends had some other dishes I forgot, but they all commented on how it really hit the spot. We hit this up off a recommendation from Heaven Hill, and we really appreciate them too.

We decided to eat lunch at Mordecai's after the librarian at the local library recommended we go there. We were not disappointed. We decided to have the lunch buffet. There was a vast array of choices from salad with all the fixins, homemade vegetables and four different meats, to several kinds of dessert. I had a hard time choosing between meat loaf, fried chicken, fried pork chops and fried catfish. So I took a little of each! Needless to say EVERYTHING was delicious. We topped it all off with homemade peach cobbler. The service was excellent and the price was very reasonable $7.95. If you're going through Springfield and you want a great place to eat this is a must stop.

Blech. If I never have to go to the place again, I will be quite alright. Coming from Georgia where there is no smoking in restaurants, this place STUNK! I understand that laws are laws and people can smoke where they please, but I would have rather kept my clothes and food smoke free. Our waitress was a little strange. Her social skills were a little off and she would hang out at the table after we finished talking a little too long. She apologized about everything even if there wasn't even a problem. I got the stuffed shrooms based on reviews and they were alright, but nothing spectacular. We didn't even finish them. Next time I'm in Springfield, I hope the town has something a little better to offer.
