My wife and I went here with a "Groupon" on Saturday night, 1/21/12. We had reservations for 7:45, and arrived a couple minutes early, to find a crowd waiting to be seated. My wife looked around at the very open seating, and said it was lacking in ambience. In fact, she wanted to leave and eat elsewhere. I insisted we stay and give it a try, and after 15 minutes, I asked about our table, and found we would be seated next. The hostess was very apologetic, and said they were running behind on reservations. I also heard her tell walk-ins that the wait was around one and a half to two hours. Unlike most restaurants that get busy, she actually seemed embarrassed, rather than dismissive, about the wait. When we were seated, my wife was once again not happy, as there is a table that is basically separated from the wait station by a folding wall, and we were next to a exterior door. However, we found that the overall din in the dining room was enough "white noise" to make the wait station unnoticeable, and the exterior door wasn't drafty, so it wasn't that bad. We asked our waiter to give us a couple minutes to decide on an appetizer, and he disappeared. After about 10 minutes, we started scanning for him, and the manager came over to ask if he could help us. Rather than get another waiter and have us wait again, he just immediately took our app and entree order. He brought our salads a couple minutes later, and had a new waitress take over our table, because the previous waiter was very busy, and he didn't want us to have slow service. We hadn't even complained, all we did was looked around to locate the first guy. While we were waiting for our entrees, the first waiter came by to apologize, and make sure we got our orders in. That surprised me, somewhat. Most servers would just avoid the table for the rest of the night in that situation. The salads were pretty good, the bread was so-so, but I highly recommend the seafood cakes. The mahi mahi and the delmonico steak were both perfectly cooked, and delicious. The steak was maybe just a bit too fatty for my tastes, but not for my wife's. The five cheese baked macaroni I loved, but my wife thought it had too much chili pepper (I like spicy, she doesn't). We had bread pudding for dessert, which was also delicious. Quick take: They are very busy right now, so plan in advance. The staff is all very professional, friendly, and they all seemed happy to be there. The ambiance is not ideal for a romantic dinner, but for a simple night out, it's just fine. And the food is far above average for the price point (around $60 for a meal for two with app, entrees, drinks, and dessert). What started out rocky turned out to be a great meal, with my wife commenting, "I almost missed out on this because I didn't like the tables". The 1-star rating at the time I write this is from someone who got upset because they didn't make reservations at a busy restaurant on a Friday night, and had to wait, and then never even sat down or tried the food. Do yourself a favor and don't do the same thing that reviewer did - you'll miss out.

Noisy and busy but we arrived way early for our reservation and they got us seated in a reasonable amount of time. The bread and garlic butter was absolutely amazing but the salad, sadly, was not cold at all. Our steaks, however, were amazing. One of the best I've ever ate. Ever. Only one stall in the men's room. Not the best considering how busy the place is but understandable given its small size.

Very well priced delicious steak and seafood. My bf had a steak and I had the Mahi Mahi. Both were great and the service was attentive. The atmosphere is nice for a dinner date. Definitely make reservations!

Cast Iron used to be a go to place for my family, friends and a place to bring out of town relatives. I say use to because I'm done with them. The food quality has been on the decline since we first found it about 2 years ago. My son ordered his usual sirloin steak. It was full of gristle. My Mahi Mahi tasted like it was sitting out for a while prior to my receiving it. The service is ok, but you need to remind them repeatedly for another drink. The quality of the food is is below par especially for the price they are charging.

After reading the other reviews for this restaurant, I wanted to write one to include something positive. I'm not saying this place is great. The food was alright, the service was good, but the atmosphere was terrible. It was crowded, and there were too many tables packed in to a small space. I am 5'5", and I could touch the people sitting on either side of me without having to completely extend my arms. The dining room was loud, so loud in fact, I had to raise my voice so my date could hear what I was saying. We made reservations for 8:15pm, and we were seated at 8:15pm. I was worried because the group seated before us said they had been waiting for over an hour, but it worked out. I was very impressed with the host staff because I noticed they were taking the initiative to get people moving. When we sat down, there was a group of eight people sitting at the table behind us. They appeared to be finished eating, talking and enjoying their drinks. By the time we ordered and our food came out, which was not a quick process, but not slow either for the meals, one of the hosts had come by and asked to buy the entire table drinks at the bar to free up their table. They agreed immediately and moved to the bar. I was very impressed with this tactic. It was just smart. Overall, I would say this location is not a place I intend to revisit, but I didn't think it was a miserable dining experience either.

I was being touristy on River Road just outside of Louisville and it was time to eat supper. I felt like having a good steak and found the Cast Iron Steakhouse with good reviews. It is an unassuming building but very nice inside with plenty of tables and friendly people. They specialized in a ribeye and fillet but I chose the ribeye for the flavor profile. It was cooked perfectly and fork tender, seasoned just enough to let the steak shine. The sides were a fresh salad with fried onions and their house-made dressings and I chose a potato cake they make there (more like mashed potato, cheese, chive cake). All was served at the proper times and the right temperatures. I have no doubt anything ordered would be just as good.

Stick to the cast iron filet. I came here because we bought one of their groupons or living social deals. I forgot which one. Either way, the place was pretty crowded on a weekend night. Tons of people. We were having such a hard time finding parking. We went around the small parking lot many times, contemplated whether we should park at the post office next door.... finally after 10 minutes, someone was leaving so we parked there. Anyways, we still had to wait about 10-15 minutes even though we had a reservation. That kinda sucked. I hate having to wait when I have a reservation and I'm on time. My husband got the ribeye and I got the cast iron filet. I'm glad I got the cast iron filet because my husband's steak sucked. He was envious of my filet. His was a typical USDA choice steak. Not that great. I think I could have gotten a better one at outback steakhouse. Anyhow, the server was new or something. He sucked. He was not attentive. He was running around like crazy for no reason. He kept forgetting to refill our drinks and forgetting to bring certain things that we asked for. Overall, it was an OK experience. I don't think I'll be coming back here. I'll rather go to Ruth Chris or Mortons.

one word... amazing!!!! go...now!!

I was really looking forward to this place as some friends of my wife highly recommended it. Unfortunatly it was a big disapointment. We ordered an appetizer and 2 steaks for dinner. The appetizer arrived shorltly and were good (fishcakes) but we had eaten about 2 bites and then the salads arrived...okay, then about 5 minutes later the steaks arrived. this was way to fast as my wife and I wanted to enjoy our dinner, but we just felt rushed. we sent the steaks back and told them we wanted to finish the appetizer and salads. the manager apologized and promised new fresh steaks when we were ready. When we got them they were cooked fine and meat was very tender, but they were wayyyy over salted. I know they have a rub on them but it was so salty it was almost inedible. Loved the atmosphere and the idea, but will not be going back

We took our three kids this evening, must say service is very good... Warm and accommodating. The food however needs improvement. I ordered a ribeye medium and it not only came out med rare, the quality was that of a sale item at a grocery store. If they're a family steakhouse, get the steaks right.

Came here with a Groupon and a steak-loving buddy. The place looks a little run-down, but I would let that pass if the food is excellent. Sadly, it was not. The steaks were pricey - far more expensive than Longhorn, my go-to steak place. The "special" - a steak and lobster dinner - was $35, a joke when you consider that their "dinner-for-two" Groupon was $20. So I ordered the meatloaf. Big mistake - they went easy on the "meat" and heavy on the "loaf". I could not finish it. Frankly, the meatloaf at Buckhead's is far better. The service was ok. Not great, not terrible. The one saving grace was that the potato cake was excellent. Still, the Groupon fulfilled its purpose - got me to try somewhere I would not have otherwise been to. Sadly, I shall not return.

My first visit today, but this is my parents favorite spot! I thought it was great. My wife, son, & I loved our food...as did my parents. It started to rain & staff looked into parking lot & checked on open car windows, then went around to make sure ppl shut them. That's going beyond expectations! I would definitely recommend this place & I will back next visit to The Ville!

I'm going to give a 4 star for tastiness of food. The place was interestingly on stilts because of bring on River Rd. It looked average on the outside, but slightly elegant on the inside. The wait staff was friendly with average+ service. I tried to have a conversation with our waiter, and he was always looking away when I asked him a question about the food. Overall a 7 out of 10 experience. My wife and I used a Groupon and we have another one to use in a couple of weeks. My wife had the chopped steak with onions and mushrooms with salad and fried green beans. Tasty green beans were very lightly fried. The salad was nice with fried onions, cheese and tomatoes with a zesty ranch dressing. I had the salmon with dill sauce and the giant potato cake. The potato cake was very good. The salmon was nicely seasoned and the dill sauce was good. I thought the salmon was a little small for $18.00 but overall very good.

This was my first time here and my wife and I could not have been happier. Very quaint place and the atmosphere was great. Hostess stand was friendly and our server was very attentive and helpful. We ordered the Cast Iron Skillet Queso for an appetizer. Our meals were the Ribeye and Cajun Chicken Pasta. And we topped it off with the brownie and ice cream dessert. And we could not have been happier with every aspect of our meal. The speed, the temperature and most importantly the taste. We look forward to coming back soon and would recommend it to anyone. The only thing I would change would be the lighting, it was a tad bit dark for reading menus.

Went there last Friday night with friends. Like other reviewers said, the place is VERY crowded. We had reservations but we still waited 30 minutes to get seated. They really need to expand the dining area to accommodate more diners. That being said, I have to agree - the food is really good! I had the large ribeye for $25 and it was very tasty. The sauteed green beans were excellent and the salad was small but one of the best I've had in a while. Also, the bread and garlic butter that the waitress brought to the table was great. A couple of my friends had the filet but weren't very impressed. They were eyeballing my ribeye with envy. I will definitely return but will dine earlier to avoid the crowded atmosphere.
(4)Niel R.
Had a Ribeye and it was amazing for a $20 steak. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. One of the best parts about this place was the friendly staff. What I find funny about the other reviews is that the only bad reviews is that this place was too crowded. You have to ask yourself, if this place has a ton of people doesn't that tell you that it has to obviously be good?
(5)Margaret S.
The filet was wonderful! One of the best steaks I have ever eaten.
(5)Phil I.
If you're traveling from downtown Louisville it's an absolutely gorgeous drive along the river to the Cast Iron Steakhouse. The exterior is fairly plain and the restaurant itself is on stilts due to proximity to the river. Great atmosphere inside. This spot appears to be a favorite of the locals and we ended up sitting at the bar since the place was packed and we didn't get a reservation. Salads are $3 or so and very tasty. House salad came with cheddar, bacon, grape tomatoes and crispy onion straws. Ranch was a house recipe slightly on the tangy side. Ordered the Potato Cake based on reviewer feedback and it was great. Bartender suggested malt vinegar for it and that made it even better. Delmonico steak was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Menu said that they put some type of rub on it for seasoning. Finished it all off with some peach cobbler which was amazing!
(5)Guru P.
My wife, daughter, and I are new to Louisville. We were surprised with this fantastic little steakhouse in Prospect. I stumbled upon this little gem while searching for a nice place to eat near the river. My steak was perfectly cooked but my wife's was overdone (although perfectly seasoned). The sides were incredible. The patio was comfortable and contributed to a great dining experience. Due to my wife's steak being overdone, the chef treated us to a dessert. The peach cobbler was a "piece of heaven." My 9 month old daughter loved it just as much as my wife and I. If you don't save room for this, you haven't had the full experience. All in all, this steakhouse is on par (if not better) than most steakhouses including Morton's and Sullivan's. You will not be disappointed.
(4)Dan A.
Cast Iron has a great local feel to it. The food is great and has a very familiar and comfortable feel to it. Even though I'm not from the area. It feels like a place I've been eating at since I was young. I have had the ribeye and filet. Both were excellent. Don't forget to order the potato cake as your starch. Looking forward to enjoying their outdoor seating this summer.
(5)Dione M.
Wonderful experience at this place. The food was great and the service was even better. We had a big juicy steak that was very flavorful. It wasn't the best we ever had, but it was pretty good, especially for the price. Our sever went out of his way to make sure we had a great experience. The peach cobbler is divine. The atmosphere is very romantic. They have a couple of tables outside on the porch, but most are inside.
(5)Rebecca C.
The burger is delicious! Also they have an amazing sautéed spinach! Definitely a must to put this place on your list of places to try if you haven't. The price is great for the excellent food.
(5)Brad H.
the appetizer was fair, and the rib eye was as good as any I have had. It was cooked to textbook definition. I really did enjoy the very casual atmosphere and noisy which made me a bit leery about the steak but no worries. recommend anyone for a visit and the steak , but it will not be a romantic getaway we also had the blackened Mahi, and as is the case at so many restaurants they get carried away with the blackening and its full of salt. Stick to the STEAK, after all its a steak house!
(4)Cindy R.
We heard great things about this place, but we're disappointed. We reserved a table online and in the comments requested a booth. When we arrived there wasn't a booth because the hostess admitted she didn't read the comments. She sat us(party of 2) at a table for 6, in the corner. There was a TV next to us but it either was broken or they chose not to turn it on so I got to look at the corner. Oh well, let's try the food. The appetizer was very good, buffalo bites. The dinner was NY strip with a little bit bland sautéed green beans and macaroni & cheese. They were ok but mediocre. The steak was no better than I could cook at home. The server was ok at first, but at the end when we were finished eating we waited 15-20 minutes before he brought our bill. I have worked as a server/bartender like him before so I gave the guy a break, but it was all part of the mediocre experience. To finish it all off, I went to the restroom and neither door would lock. Just a little weird.
(2)Ryan H.
Great steak and great service! I will definitely be back. Cast Iron Steakhouse isn't trendy or fancy, but it has great steaks at great prices. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a better location. I thought that since it was on River Road it might be a little closer to the water and have a nice patio like Captain's Quarters. Ask for Kristen. She was great!
(4)Ronald B.
Not a bad place to eat, but not as good as some of the steak chains. Lacks a lot of flavor/spice. Great service!
(3)Lokman G.
It's a really cozy place, not like other steakhouse, but it's not anything super fancy. With the casual environtment and noise level, it's not anything close to romantic. It's a pretty good place for smaller group not more than 6 people, considering their dining area is not that big. The location is not really great, but it's pretty easy to find. The service was pretty good and friendly. We went there for early dinner on Sunday, and it was pretty packed for Sunday. We got there little earlier than the time we reserved, but we were seated instantly. Don't forget to make reservation. Their steak was decent, and their appetizer was great. We ordered an appetizer with battered fried shrimp and creamed spinach, which I don't find it on their online menu somehow. Love their creamed spinach. We ordered the ribeye to cook medium, but it came out slightly under-cooked. The cast iron filet wrapped in apple-wood smoked bacon was much stronger in flavor than the ribeye, which the bacon was little too salty for me. Overall, the experience is great and we will go there again.
(4)Kathy Jo C.
Food is excellent. The Peach Cobbler is pure HEAVEN. Be sure to make reservations and sit in the dining room, not the tables in the bar area. The bartenders get slammed if they have a full sitting at the bar and then have tables too.
(5)Lisa M.
The restaurant itself was very clean, very casual, very nice. The hostess, servers and our waitress provided really excellent service. The house salad and house made tangy Ranch were very good, and the parmesan butter that came with the bread was delicious. We both ordered the ribeye. My ribeye was very fatty (almost half the steak was nothing but fat) and both of our steaks lacked flavor of any kind. It was as if they hadn't been seasoned at all. But they were cooked properly - medium, exactly how we ordered them. Otherwise very unimpressive. I opted for the friend potato pancake as my side. The breading was flavorful, but the potatoes inside the pancake were very bland as if they hadn't been seasoned whatsoever. And for me, a slightly thinner potato pancake would have been much more enjoyable - so that every bite contained the breading as well as potatoes. Based on the casual atmosphere of the restaurant and the poor quality of the food, the prices were really quite high, overpriced. When our waitress first checked on us after our entrees were delivered, I did mention to her (and showed her) that about half of my 12-oz. ribeye was nothing but fat. She offered to have another steak prepared for me, but I told her it was fine - that I wanted to be sure she was aware of it. She returned a short time later with a coupon for a free entrée. While that is commendable and shows the level of good customer service, I really don't think we'll be back to use it.
(2)Chris M.
Family friendly and great steak and seafood. My kids had the steak and mac & cheese and I had the salmon. So much food I may pop. Great flavors and pretty good value. The porch looks like a nice option but was in the sun when we got here at 6 so we ate in.
(5)Marie D.
Great service and atmosphere. Not very many options for those with food allergies - though apparently you can call ahead of time and they'll work with you to prepare something. The only reason I took off a star is because I got the recommended ribeye and it was way overcooked.
(4)Scott G.
Had purchased a Groupon so we thought we'd check it out. Ordered the "Cast Iron Steak queso" as an appetizer. Assumed since it had "Steak" in the description it would actually have steak in it, which it didn't. Despite the lack of streak, was still just a partially melted cheese which appeared to also have cream cheese which wasn't thoroughly mixed. Ordered the chicken tortilla soup which was served cold, so only could muster past a few bites. Next comes the entree, their Bacon Wrapped Fillet, medium, side of shrimp scampi, and the five cheese Mac and cheese. Not sure what the meat was, but was definitely not a fillet, it was served well done, the scampi was all lemon, no garlic flavor at all. Mid way through they came back to tell us that they had ran out of coke (which our party of five was all drinking), and one of the 5 glasses was served with a long black hair, yum! Really wanted to like this place given all of the positive reviews, but this visit was an absolute disaster, and not worth the discounted Groupon that I had purchased. **Update** Manger ultimately sat down with us to only apologize for all that went wrong with our visit, and gave us a gift card to given them a second shot. He was sincere and stated many times that this was a very unusual experience. We will give them another shot in the future and I'll update my review at that time.

This a great small quant restaurant the food is good and the service is also good. They have good drinks too. I like setting outside in the summer. Been here several times and really enjoy it every time.
(5)Rob X.
The food is flavored well. The noise level is a bit louder than I expected. The food tastes fresh. I enjoyed the food. The steaks were good. The potato cake is very good as a side dish. I was impressed with the flavor.
(4)Michele B.
Excellent! Discovered this place this past summer and have been several times. Food is absolutely delicious. Steaks wonderful and the house salad is truly always fresh and delicious. Haven't had one bad experience. Love the fact they open earlier. You will not be disappointed! Staff always friendly and recognizes us and acknowledges us every time.
(5)Adele G.
We live in the area and have eaten here no few words in twenty times in the last few months. I guess you could say we're regulars. Having dined at many higher priced steak houses, cast iron hands down is by far the absolute best! The atmosphere is upbeat, the service is incredible and they always make us feel welcome. I'm just glad they put a Groupon on! Although, I don't want it to get too overcrowded but I'm sure Alysha will always save us a seat at the bar.
(5)Carolyn Rose C.
Awesome! Celebrated Husband's 56th birthday there with another couple. Everything was fresh, cooked to order, the service was friendly and efficient, and the cobbler was to die for! Recommend highly!
(5)Vicki H.
Excellent stuffed pork tenderloin. The peach cobbler melts in your mouth. Atmosphere was great. Best waiter ever is Roy. Loved it. Can't wait to go back.
(5)Christopher P.
My wife and I went for our anniversary, we both had ribeyes that cooked properly and excellent. I usually am disappointed when I get steak at a restaurant, this time I was pleased. Their blue cheese dressing is awesome and they have garlic butter for the bread that is delicious. Our server Little Tay-Tay was fantastic.
(5)Ramona C.
Busy Derby week so the place was packed and somewhat slow, but server was super polite and knowledgeable. Ordered the Filet & Lobster Tail special for $34. It was perfectly cooked and the green beans were, too. My sweet tea was not too sweet, not too unsweetened. My bread was warm and served with garlicky butter - yummy. And the waiter literally caught a huge flying bug with his bare hand that someone had let in when they arrived (this place is on the river). Very casual and a bit noisy, but consistently good food around the table.
(5)Jeff N.
I give this place a 3, not because it's bad, but mostly because it's a little pricey. I got the 6 oz sirloin. The house salad was a little uninspiring. Pace of meal was just a little rushed - my sirloin came out on top of my salad. The potato cake is interesting but if I go back I think I'll just get a baked potato. The bread pudding was probably the best thing about the meal. The bread pudding & Alicia's martini. Alicia seems to be the glue that binds the wait staff together. You'd better have a reservation if you get there much later than 6
(3)J G.
excellent ribeye! just better than I had anywhere in a while. will definitely be back!
(5)Ric W.
Ric, It is unusual to receive these kind of comments, as I take great pride in the food quality here, it generally is really great! I have no idea how this got past me, as I am not one to let people leave disappointed. My name is Bryan, and I am the General Manager here at Cast Iron in Prospect. Please contact me at castironsteakhouse@ or 502-384-7466. I would like to invite you and your sister back in for a much better experience. I will personally take care of you all, as it is my fault you left unhappy the first time. I will replace anything you all had on me. I thank you for making me aware of this situation, and hope you will give me the opportunity to fix it... We are here for you, please let me know what I can do to make a bad experience into a good one! Must say that this guy takes great pride in making sure that you're satisfied. So i included his message to my review in my review. I also increased my original rating by one star. This by far is the worst steak that I have ever had, period. I recently visited the Cast Iron Steakhouse, to celebrate me and my sister's birthday. We had a total of 8 in our group and every steak that we order was over cooked. We all asked for medium or medium well and every steak was cooked well with the exception of my steak the Delmonico it was burnt. What steakhouse cooks steaks in such a poor manner? Even my brother notice that my steak was burnt from across the table, I know you think this may be an exaggeration, but it's not the steak was burnt. Seeing how I recommended this restaurant I did not want to send it back in front of my family. But my best friend did ask for a new steak, which was cooked right the second time, the rest of the group just made the best of a dry, over cooked steak and cold sides that were served. This was a big disappointment for me, I've been to the Cast Iron Steakhouse's other location in Jeffersonville and never had a bad experience, so thought that I would give the one in Louisville a try..... Never again. If you are looking for a good steak try Proof On Main, Jack Fry's, Avalon, Mozz, Varanese or even WAFFLE HOUSE, before you go the Cast Iron Skillet in Prospect, UNLESS YOU HAVE A CAST IRON STOMACH.
