I walked over to Dairy Cheer during a recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Pikeville. The sign boasts that it's the home of "the original Smashburger", and Lord knows, I have an insatiable appetite for a good burger. The place is old-timey and could probably use a good paint job. The dining area was pretty empty at dinner time, but their drive-thru was slammed during my whole meal. I was a glutton and wanted to try just about everything (including the Pikevilly Cheesesteak!). I ordered a Smashburger, add cheese and bacon; onion rings; Fresca, in a can (charmed to pieces by this, reminds me of my granny's); and a peanut butter/chocolate shake (look away, Judge-y). I tore into my grease feast: the burger, despite the toppings of shredded lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo, was quite dry, cold and flavorless. A bit of a letdown, as I had high expectations for "the original Smashburger." The buttered, toasted bun was a nice touch, however it wasn't a sturdy enough bun to handle all the toppings. The burger kind of reminded me of a SLIGHTLY tastier Sonic Drive-Thru burger. However, the bacon and pickles on the sandwich were amazeballs - so flavorful, with smoky, chewy goodness from the bacon and cold, thick crunchy pickle slices. The saving grace of the sandwich. The onion rings were good, more like an onion funnel cake, a great glob of them mounded and battered and deep fried. They were definitely freshly sliced and prepared to-order, which is always wonderful. However, this portion is for 2-3 people to split, and after peeling off several greasy rings, I was feeling a bit gross and queasy. The peanut butter and chocolate shake was DIVINE. My favorite part of the meal. Rich, thick but still slurpable through a straw, and blended with - I swear - real peanut butter swirls of goodness. Pure fatty deliciousness. I'd return just for the shake next time. Prices were reasonable, you get diner-style food for diner-style prices, in an old-fashioned fast food setting.

If you're staying at the Holiday Inn Express down the road, this is a great option instead of the familiar fast food restaurants. The booths and decor of the place in general needs an update but it's clean and spacious. The menu, some hand written and all over the place, is extensive and cheap! You can get anything from burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, to milk shake and ice cream. The food is nothing out of the ordinary but good, cheap and plentiful. Order at the front and sit down like any other fast food places. I wouldn't recommend the pumpkin spice latte, overly sweet and thick. There is also a drive thru.

While staying at the Holiday Inn Express, we decided to try this place out. It was horrible! They made our order and proceeded to allow it to sit while they waited on an employee who stopped by to get food. In addition to that, they were too busy gossiping to pay attention to the line in the drive thru. They presented us with soupy ice cream and tried to hand is someone else's order to top it off. If my son wasn't in the car, I would have just driven off, and gone to the Dairy Queen a few doors down. If I could, I'd have given this zero stars. My advice is find another place!

While passing through on a road trip, stopped at the Dairy Cheer, They offer lots of choices ! I had a smash burger topped with a homemade creamy cole slaw (this pre-dates the chain with the same name) different and tasty. Onion Rings are awesome ! Soups looked great as did the Foot longs and pork tenderloins Even though the place was very busy we had our freshly prepared food in about five minutes This place beats the fast food joints that you can dine in anywhere

Yeah. I travel. I travel to many random states. I have family everywhere. I used to be in KY once every year of my childhood and apparently it wasn't my first time coming here. Dairy Cheer has been here for ages and has never changed. My cousins say Dairy Cheer to be better than Dairy Queen and thats not hard to believe. I had a simple strawberry milkshake - a distracted plan in getting a soft serve cone but it was definitely delicious. I also ordered a hoagie, not knowing what a hoagie was - but I trusted it would be phenomenal. It was good - it satisfied my hunger pain before the big dinner we had planned. My other cousins who have moved away from Pikeville cannot leave without going to Dairy Cheer - and thats definitely worth trying. As for pricing, I wasnt really paying attention - but we were in the drive thru with 5 ladies, 1 of which ordered for her 3 kids and another ordered for her son - so a total of 10 people - it came out to around $25. o_O WHAATTT?!
