Oddly enough this place was inspired by Homer Simpson's famous catch phrase "D'oh!" Yea yea another shameless attempt at humor.. If the question is, "are you in Paducah?" The answer is, "eat at Doe's Eat Place." First of all the menu has: Chili, Tamales, Steak, and Pasta. It's like of like somebody decided that they were going to make a restaurant that only serves things they love to eat; who cares if it doesn't have a theme. The Filet was awesome. Anything on the desert menu is awesome. The price points are awesome. The ambiance is a bunch of for sale local art set in an old storefront space. I love a place where I can wear flip flops and order a fancy steak. This is that kind of place. Wear a suit, wear pair of cutoff shorts.. You're going to fit in either way. I wasn't expecting to eat at a gem like this while passing through...

Frequent customer but tonight service was horrible and food was NOT up to standard. 3 of 6 meals were over cooked. Busy night, but have staff to handle customers. My out of town business guest would probably not go back. Come on folks, step up your game

Dinner with family last night was excellent! Service was top notch as well, despite being a busy night for them. We are well pleased and will be back!

Very nice little place. Very good food and service. We came here after sitting in another not very busy restaurant for 15 minutes with no wait staff every approaching us. Doe's does not have this issue! It is nice to carry a few local brews on tap and the ingredient quality and preparation of the food is very good. I would return. A dive with good food and service.

Jeremy C, Does has NOTHING to do with Homer Simpson. The original Mississippi lcation opened in 1941 long before any of the Simpsons were born.

Passing through on a Sunday afternoon on the way home. Very friendly and prompt service and knowledgable staff. My fried chicken parmesan was very good; her burger, though, didn't really have any flavor. Kind of puzzling given the place's reputation for steaks. Good draft beer selection. Would have added at least another star or two except for the burger and the floor was sticky. Admittedly, the place is casual in its setting/ambience, but I'm way past that stage in life where sticky floors are just part of the fun. All that being aid, we would probably give it another shot and see what the steaks are like.

Tamales with chili, awesome. 2 lb. bone in rib eye, awesome. Hand cut fries, awesome. Simple salad with house made blue cheese, awesome. Nice selection of beer, awesome. Waitstaff, awesome. I've had $100+ steaks but this was the best I've had, melted like butter in my mouth. Also kudos for offering a bone in rib eye as these are very difficult to find. The other three guys in our party had the same experience with their porterhouse and filet selections. Awesome little unassuming place with fantastic steaks and tamales.

This place is a gem! A great location in downtown Paducah with a really cool atmosphere. Brick walls, raw floors and cool waitstaff. I like a menu that focuses on a few good things done well. Appetizer of tamales and chili is a must! As a tamale novice, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about them. They're great! Flavorful meat filling surrounded by creamy - um, corny, creamy tamale outside. What is that stuff called? Chili was good, too! Spicy, thick and a lil sweet. The steaks - OH THE STEAKS! Really good quality meat, not heavily seasoned. The nice beefy taste really prevails. Ours were cooked PERFECTLY. My hubs ordered the 3 lb steak for himself! I had the ribeye still HUGE at around 17 ounces. Plenty for two. Fries are hand cut and served hot and crispy. A great surprise! House salad dressing is great and the iceberg salad was fresh and crisp. Most dressings made in house. Skip the veggie medley, it's pretty pedestrian. Have more fries.

The tamales and chili lived up to the prior reviews, the bone-in 1 1/2 lb sirloin was quite good and done perfectly. The hand cut fries were WAY too salty, but the home made blue cheese dressing was spot on. The bread was sad, a thin piece of tasteless italian bread, toasted. But the nice surprises were the Mahi Mahi over rice, very well done and a nice sauce. I know someone whined about the 8.00 desert, well trust me the tower carrot cake was amazing, and worth every penny. The people were friendly, the staff were on their toes and it was a overall very nice casual dining experience, and yes I will go again.

Pros: Authentic Tamales, Fresh cooked steak, the food is seriously good Cons: pricey (unless you share with your table), menu is short and needs explanation, food takes a while to get out I think the best part of my meal was the tamales. Be sure to get them with chili and unwrap their paper casing before you eat them! They are absolutely authentically delicious. The steaks come in huge sizes, so you're better off to share them with your table. The steak was thick, and cooked exactly as ordered (medium rare). It was a little tough, but I think that was due to the thickness of the steak. Overall a positive, tasty experience!

Love going here. The steaks are amazing. Service can be on the slower side when busy, however that's no issue. I've been to the original family owned Does Eat Place in Greenville Mississippi. This location in paducah blows the original out of the water, also no need for armed security. Try the Bone in Ribeye, grab an order of tamales and shrimp, you won't be disappointed. Good bar selection as well.

Food was awesome. Never seen steaks so big and still have great flavor, cooked to perfection. If you're not a steak lover, there's plenty other things on the menu you'll enjoy. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive.

My husband and I went there this past Saturday and we were not fans. Every single item that came out was extremely salty. He had the steak and fries which were cooked well but ruined by salt as was my meal, the tamales and chili. I really don't know why I ordered the tamales as I come from El Paso, Tx which borders Mexico and knew that Kentucky Mexican food was not to be trusted; they were extremely inauthentic, ruined by salt and the dough was not sticky enough and crumbled immediately when I touched them. The service was lackluster but not terrible. If we lived in Paducah we would not return.

I came here with a friend based on the yelp reviews and I was VERY impressed with the quality and flavor of their filet Mignon and lobster tail. It was superb. It was slightly pricey but it was well worth it. They offer $3 mint Julips on Sunday, but you have to ask for it, as it's not advertised. Our waiter Jim, was nice but took him an extremely long time to bring our appetizers, and at times he would not hear what we even asked for. Like I asked for different dressed because their house dressing tastes more like a bland ramekin of olive oil. The bread was delicious as it has pieces of garlic encrusted within its dough. Everything was amazing, service could've been better, but it was a very busy night and they seemed short staffed. Although, I noticed the people sitting at the bar, seemed to be serviced a lot faster. So sit there next time! ;)

The only reason I'm giving this two stars is because the steak was actually pretty good (I got the fillet). However, for a $60 meal (I got a glass of wine and the fillet that comes with salad and side) the service was not up to par. The entire time I was there I got the feeling that I was an inconvenience to the staff and that they just wanted to get me in and out. They brought out my salad and steak at the same time so that my steak just sat there while I was eating my salad. The waiters also kept running around with scowls on their faces as if they were late for a train, never stopping to chat with their customers. It felt more like a sports bar than fine dining...and I'm not knocking sports bars, just not paying $60 for my meal there either! On to the food...wine was great. Got the house cab. (However my first glass had about 10 gnats in it when delivered to my table...they seemed annoyed that I asked for a new glass). Salad was bland and boring...tasted like premix lettuce from the store covered with olive oil. Steak was very good...pan seared like a nice fillet should be. Fries were not good. Conclusion: steak was good, but not good enough to bring me back considering everything else.

Great food for sure! But the service was something to be desired.. We were waited on by an older man who seemed flustered the whole time and always only heard half of what we requested (like us asking for mint juleps and water, he only brought us the juleps and said we didn't ask for water when we know we did). However when the food came it nearly made all those random little problems seem worth it. Then we got our bill and another problem- he added the beers from the table next to us to our bill then tried to defend it. We had to quite literally go line by line with him until he saw his mistake and corrected it. I will go again but sit in the bar area. We had a clear view of that area and those patrons had prompt and correct service.

I have been to the original Doe's in Mississippi, this one has a different atmosphere but is just as delicious as I remember. My husband and I drove 3.5 hours to eat this steak and it was worth it! The tamales are yummy and a little spicy. The steaks are the best in the world! The fries are okay - but who cares - the steak is the reason to go there. The bread at the original Doe's is cut different and much better. If you are near Paducah or even if you are not near, this place is worth the drive.

I took my family here for my birthday. We arrived at 4:40 and were seated. Our waitress came and I said we needed one more minute. We didn't see her for 15 minutes. When she came we ordered at around 5. Shortly afterwords our salads came out. They were very unimpressive. It was lettuce and three small vegetables. We got tamales and they were pretty boring, not quite like the reviews I had read about. Then at 6 our main meals came out. The table next to us arrived after we ordered and got their food 10 minutes before us. I got the bone in ribeye and it was really good. Maybe a 9 out of 10 good. It was better than many usda prime steakhouses I've been to. I also got some loaded French fries and they were good also. I was a little disappointed that there was no kind of bread before the meal. But at the end of the day I went here to try the steak and left a happy man.

Let me start off by I have owned and cooked my own bar restaurant a little bigger for 9 years and my weekend special IS a 16-18oz ribeye side and salad for $24.99 and sell prime grade and handcut mine as well and have tripled my sales over last three years, so know review I had heard and wanted to try the steak there, I don't believe mine was a 2 lb I would say 24 oz raw and I ordered med rare and had ask server more to medium r a good med rare and he assured me it would be cooked right because don't want dark red center or rare want bright red right after dark red and it come out rare with a dark center and very Chewey and wasn't trimmed at all, no seasoning that I could tell ( salt will go a long way on beef, went to bathroom and it smelt straight up like cat piss bad, note to manager manage ur place, floor was sticky and server brought appetizers and had to ask twice for plates to eat them and had to ask for refills often party of 5 and it was 4 pm on a Monday was only 2 other people in their,so from owner to owner it could be better for the reputation that someone built because I would not come back very poor management should be clean dirt and lint dust all over everything and smears on TV good luck

Very disappointed, been several times & steak is excellent. We went in @ 3pm on Valentine's Day. Several open tables but refused to seat us.

Worse $50 meal EVER! The steak was nothing special other than 'big' and their bread seemed like it was 2 slices from a store bought loaf thrown in a frying pan (on one side). So if you are just looking to gorge yourself on red meat - knock yourself out, but be sure and bring the $$ cause you are going to pay dearly for it! Plus the atmosphere wasn't quaint - it was just old. I could have gone to Outback and gotten a better steak in a more appropriate portion, had homemade bread, and paid a lot less for it! What a rip-off.

Fries were cold and soggy. Chili tasted like ass and the waitress got our checks wrong 3 times. Service was really slow.

Wow, a great steak place! We visited Paducah as my wife is a quilter and wanted to see the Quilt Museum and buy fabric at Handcock's. We ate at Doe's one Tuesday evening due to the good prior reviews. Those reviews were spot on and the rib eye we split was the best steak we have had out for as long as we can recall. The tamales with chili (3) appetizer were a good starter. We ordered the fries, an extra side salad and each had a glass of wine. All were very satisfying.

OK the steaks are huge and so are the prices... the house salad was nothing special, lettuce, Romain, onions, tomatoes and cheese with dressing really kind of boring, the steak fries were good but again nothing special about them, the shrimp dish had 6 small shrimp and for $13 you'd think you'd get something more than 6 small shrimp pan fried in butter with paprika. As for the steak we got a 3 lbs sirloin and it was cooked to order with a good au jus - but the bottom line is even with a huge steak I didn't see $150 worth of food on the table - small sides that were of average quality, sweet tea was OK a little watery for my taste and 4 slices of thin toasted rye bread. for 3 people was a little skimpy. They provided cracker while you waited for you food - plain old saltine crackers and you'd think a place that cost this much would provide fresh bread or a nice cracker assortment. The upside was the server was good and attentive - overall the food was good, not WOW great and I could have gotten a lot more for my money are another place. Based on their prices I'm not sure what they are so proud of but it's certainly something.

Oh....my....gosh this was AWESOME! I had the rib eye steak and my husband had their spaghetti and meatballs. Doe's was highly recommended by the owner of a local antique mall that we visited. Doe's was just as incredible as he promised! Up until this point, Ruths Chris was my favorite steak house. Not now! Doe's has shot up to number 1 in my book! My steak was thick, juicy, and cooked to perfection! It had the most wonderful flavor. I honestly expected to take home leftovers, as the steak was huge. But I couldn't stop eating it and finished every delicious bite. I completely ignored my baked potato, which was also good. It was cooked through and fluffy. My husband loved his spaghetti and meatballs. The menu said they use a special homemade recipe for their marinara. He said it was excellent. The meatballs were also incredible, and my husband is picky about his meatballs. The salads were also very good and fresh. For desert, my husband and I shared the carrot cake which was out of this world good! The service was excellent as well. We couldn't have picked a better restaurant to enjoy our 20th wedding anniversary. We live a little over an hour away, but we'll make the drive just to enjoy Doe's food! My husband says he's going to try the fillet mignon next time.

Was told by a friend about the place. He said this would probably be one of the best steaks I have ever had. Well he was spot on. The smallest t-bone (1.5 lbs.) was more than I could consume. Add the fries, side salad with blue cheese crumbles and their signature tamales w/chili and evening was top notch. Worth the trip. Not cheap but very tasty!!

I live in Nashville TN and have had two great dinners prior to last night, but Monday nights service was terrible and the food was fair. I might be back, but the colleagues in for meetings weren't impressed. The thermostat want working either, the servers were wearing coats. I don't expect perfection, but am used to good service, great food and a comfortable atmosphere . 0/3

Doe's does a rib-eye steak right. It is huge, juicy and flavorful, with a great price! This review would be 5 stars if it were based on quality of the food alone. It gets a 3.5 due to the horrible service I encountered while there. I went there with a large party during a business trip, the restaurant was not very busy when we arrived but the restaurant staff did not seem happy to pull tables together to accommodate us. The service only declined from there, overall our dinner took 3+ hours. The server took forever to take our order, our food took forever to come out and then it took the server another lifetime to split our checks. When she came back with the split checks she told us that we would need tip 30%... this is an outrageous amount for mediocre service. Most people left a 20% tip which is more than reasonable; however upon reviewing my credit card statement I found the restaurant had ignored my 20% tip and charged me for the amount of 30%. My other coworkers reported the same. This is incredibly dishonest practice! Our calls to the GM went unanswered and we were never refunded. I doubt any of us will be returning on future business trips.

Starting at the beginning. Doe's weekday hours are 11 - 2 for lunch and 5 till close for dinner.... It was about 105 degrees out when I popped in about 5 minutes till 2 because I saw the bar and wanted a cold beer. (This California boy is not a fan of heat). The manager was VERY cool and let 6 of us come in for a quick beer... After about an hour (and a few beers) later, we got around to checking out the menu. In a word "STEAK" !!! I asked if he had a bone-in rib-eye, which they did not... But he told me if we came back for dinner, he would have one for me... We did, and he did! Killer tamales, home made fries, and the best steak I have ever had. (not to mention a few more beers!) It was so good, that we went back the next night. 5 stars for the food, and 5 + for the service!

We had a nice dinner at Doe's. The service was friendly and efficient. My companion liked the spaghetti and meatballs. I ordered the 1.5 lb. sirloin, which was nicely prepared but didn't make me say, "This is an excellent steak". The vegetable medley was way overcooked. The brownie and the carrot tower cake were quite good.

Plain and simple if you love TAMALES this is the place. You must get the TAMALES with CHILI. Yes, the steaks also are good - but really anyone can grill a steak. The steaks here are big - I would suggest spliting one with your significant other. Tamales are how the restaurant got started and they definitely got it right. The drinks are good and they have a fairly eclectic menu so there should be something for everyone. However, be warned it's NOISY - really NOISY. The bar area is actually the quiter of the two rooms. There also have entertainment in the bar that adds to the atomsphere. If your in Paducah, Doe's is definitely a place you want to try.

This is a straight up steak and potatos joint, literally! My husband and I always order the tamales with chili for a starter, and filet mingon for dinner (mine with fries and his with a baked potato) We have eaten at reknown steak places all over the country, so I was surprised that the steak literally melted in our mouth. I only wish they had more appetizers and sides

This was much better than the typical pub that I was expecting. There's also more space inside than on initial inspection, as there's another room off the first that's not immediately apparent. We ducked in for a quick snack. Garlic bread from the nearby Kirchoff's Bakery, hand cut fries, and some tamales. The hot tamales were cooked in broth and were wrapped in parchment paper. I'm not sure why they bothered to bring out Tabasco with them, as they really had no need of additional fire. My only complaint about this place was the acoustics. If you want to be a typical pub, then the acoustics are perfect for drinking and pretending to carry on a conversation. If you want to have a cozy dining experience it's terrible. It was a giant box with no softness. To make matters worse there was a box inset near the end of the room at the ceiling with no softness that acted as a speaker by taking in every sound in the room and focusing it back out. If I could comfortably carry on a conversation, this would probably be a four.

My boyfriend and I purposely stopped here on our way to Nashville because we had heard that it's other family-owned location in Greenville, MS was featured by Alton Brown on the Food Network, and their tamales were one of the featured foods. So, of course we ordered the tamales, and we were not disappointed!! They're quite spicy (and I LOVE spice, so that was an EXCELLENT attribute!) and you have a choice to have them served with a side of their homemade chili (definitely recommended!). The service was great as well. The only reason I left off a star is for their strange hours. They are open from 11am-2pm, then close at 2 and re-open at 5pm most days. We almost missed our chance to eat there, as we walked in at 1:45! Was well worth the detour, however, and would get 5 stars for quality!

Atmosphere is great. The fried shrimp are very tasty and lightly battered which make them fabulous. The music was a little loud to carry on dinner conversation. Overall, this place offers a variety from steaks, to tamales, to shrimp. Check it out and enjoy.

AMAZING FOOD!! My hubby and I went for a little dinner date, we brought our baby girl in with us and shared an enormous 2lb t-bone that was SCRUMPTUOUS!! It was worth the price and we had plenty of side dishes to split :) the ambience was great too, kinda quiet when we went in. I really enjoyed the house salad and our steak was so juicy! :) definitely going back again!!

Well, our most recent visit was not up to Doe's normal standards. The porterhouse was tough and had lots of gristle. I can't believe I'm writing this, but it's true. Considering how much it cost, we were very disappointed. I liked the wine list and the carrot cake continues to dazzle.

Although pricey, this place is fantastic. My fiancé had been wanting to come here just based on the fact that they had humongous steaks. I had low expectations. I was assuming they would offer a giant sirloin, tough and probably overcooked. The menu surprised me, although I wasn't thinking I would get quality great flavored beef. My fiancé ordered the 3 pound porterhouse (meant to be shared between two people, not us.) I wanted the ribeye but they were sold out (a good sign) so I opted for the big ol' filet mignon. Our food came out and I was astonished at how big they were. I was very pleasantly surprised that this was an absolutely fantastic steak. Flavored beautifully! I like mine medium rare plus (more on the rare side of medium) and it was beyond delicious. My fiancés was huge! His was also medium rare plus, and tasted great! My only complaint was that his had a good half pound or so of fat that had to be trimmed off. That, and the French fries weren't all that great. The salads and fried shrimp were both really good, too. We spent quite a bit of money, but it was well worth the experience. The ambiance was nice, very relaxed. Almost too relaxed. The servers were in just regular clothes, no uniform of any kind. I like the "come as you are" vibe, but for those prices, they could class it up a bit. Overall- absolutely wonderful!

The steaks are superb!! The tamales are pretty good and paired with their chili it's even better, although coming from a Hispanic background I've certainly had better tamales. Lunch menu is rock solid, burgers are great! Steak sandwich even better! A must if you're in Paducah!

My wife, daughter and I stopped by for a late lunch on Saturday. We all really enjoyed it. Food was great ( steak sandwich for me, grilled chicken for the wife, chicken tenders for my daughter). Atmosphere was great. Next time we are in Paducah it will be difficult to try something else.
