We got lost in Kentucky trying to avoid I75 construction, and ended up at the Smith House. Sweet baby geezuz. Billy O'Banion can fucking cook a brisket. Seriously. The man is a meat magician. Drive any distance to experience it. Go. Do it now.

Nice little place for some home cooking. Really friendly owner who spends time making sure everyone is happy. Loved my pulled pork sandwich with tangy sweet bbq sauce and a side of tater tots. Pies are a specialty but we only tried the chess pie. Nice to try a southern classic but not a fan. Coconut cream was all out by the time we arrived late in the day.

Owenton is one of the friendliest places on earth. The Smith House is a perfect example. When you walk in, everyone looks to see if they know you, because everyone who lives there knows each other, and if you don't live there, they give you a big smile and make conversation as if they do know you. The owner came over and talked to us for a little bit and then on to visit with others there. I love this family atmosphere. I'm not sure why but their water tasted exceptionally good. I always get water but theirs was so cool and delicious. (worth a mention) Their claim to fame is their homemade pies, so I asked the server what she would recommend. She said the KY Nut, which is similar to Derby Pie. Wow, it was divine. Warm chocolate with pecan goodness. It appealed to my taste bud senses in a mighty pleasurable way.

I had dinner here will visiting Elk Creek Vineyards and was thoroughly impressed! Our meal arrived quickly and tasted delicious! I had the grilled pork chop dinner (just the single was more than enough!) and my significant other had the pork loin sandwich with fries. Our waitress was very sweet and friendly! Overall, a very great place to dine!
