This was my first visit to Asuka. I was excited to try it, but the service was extremely slow. My party of 3 got there around 1pm or a little before. I thought there might be a wait but it was pretty empty. The guy up front said give me just a few minutes. The people in front of us wanted the grill area too but their whole party wasn't even there yet. He initially told them He couldn't seat them, but did anyway. We sat there for at least 20 min before he sat us. ( the other party he sat w/out the full party still wasn't all there yet). When we finally got to the grill the same guy was to take our water/ food order. I've been to other hibachi places and enjoy them but this service was way too slow. We didn't get out of there until almost 3pm! The food was good, although the dressing in the salad was too heavy and I didn't care for it. I don't eat Sushi so I can't speak to all the rave reviews in here about that, so if that is your thing it's probably a great place. Our chef was hard to understand and mumbled.

Their Nabeyaki udon was a good portion for the price. I really enjoyed their spicy tuna roll, although it was a bit expensive. They also have the option of doing hibachi if you want that experience. This is more of a restaurant feel and the prices reflect it. Quality is good. Did not get a chance to try the other sushi rolls, but their portions looked good. Great place to go for dinner. $25/person if you want an entree and a roll of sushi. They also serve miso soup and salad with each meal. The salad sauce was really delicious! Our server was really nice and easy to talk to. Overall a really enjoyable experience.

The sushi was good, although more pricey than some, but the Hibachi was not very good and is one of the most expensive I have seen in this area. The cheapest meal, besides kids, is the noodles meal and we got that but the noodles were extremely garlicky. The rice and vegetables, salad, and soup was good, which was redeeming. My other complaint was the smell inside the restaurant. I know they can't help it but the inside smells of cigars and tobacco as it is next to a cigar shop. I am disappointed that my family of 4 ate for $76.00 without tip.

I try to make it to Asuka at least once a week for their lunch special. Delicious! With the Pick 2 special, I'm able to get 2 half orders of a large selection of rolls for $10. Great for lunch as it's just enough food but still allows for a variety. Also comes with miso soup and, perhaps just if you sit at the sushi bar, a small pickled cucumber salad and an orange with whipped cream for desert.

So, I'm a big connoisseur of sushi and I love hibachi style cuisine. Asuka came with a strong recommendation from a friend and I thought why not, it married two things I love. The place is beautiful, artfully decorated. The staff is very friendly and very attentive. Although my waitress was a bit scatterbrained and really had no sense about her. She really made the experience a bit frustrating. (Forgetting food and drinks all the time, never informing that she going to get me my change from a manager a little heads up would've been nice so I didn't have to search for someone after 30 minutes). The food selection is great, plenty of sushi options with corresponding explanations. The hibachi selection is pretty standard fair. For dinner: Red Bull Roll: Spicy Crab and cucumber, finished with steak, green onion and special sauce. This was amazing beautifully crafted, the flavors were astounding. Eel roll: fresh water eel barbecued and sesame seeds. This was standard fair it tasted really good. Can't beat the staples of sushi. To drink: Japanese Mojito: mint, cucumber, mint flavored rum. This wasn't great the cucumber completely overpowered the entire drink. I like cucumber, but this was ridiculous. I'm giving this place two stars because of two major reasons: 1st: the waitress, she was infuriating and just plain not with it. She kept saying she was new, but then said later that she had been waitressing there for 2 years. So I'm not sure what the truth is, it just made fora frustrating experience. She was nice though which helped, in the end detracted from my experience. 2nd: I got food poisoning after all that. Not sure what caused it, but it was tasty regardless. Recommendation: I would recommend steering clear of this place. If you want sushi go some place that caters to it specifically and the same goes for hibachi.

Terrible slow service. Go to miyako on richmond rd. better service food and sushi Sushi is awful here. Brittany is a terrible server. I wont be coming back and predict this place will go out of business by the end of the year. Take your money elsewhere for better food and service. I am still in search for a good Sushi place in Lexington. Miyako is the best so far but is still not what I'm looking for- but their service kills this Asuka place. I couldn't even get my water refilled here! I will be trying Tomo next in my quest for good sushi in lex.

The Asuka was my first trip to this style of restaurant primarily specializing in Sushi. As an up and coming fan of Sushi I really liked what I had ordered. The atmosphere was very nice and classy. I also found my waitress to be helpful as I asked questions. Overall I was very very pleased. My only complaint doesn't really reflect an issue with Asuka technically but I just didn't feel as if the amount of Sushi you got matched the price Sushi seems to cost. As far as appetizers go, I enjoyed my deep fried green beans and deep fried tempura. My dining mate was really happy with her steak as well. If you like this style of food, I think you will enjoy Asuka. But if you know a better place, I'd love to hear about it.
(5)Stephen P.
This is my go to sushi place in Lexington. I've been to both locations and the food quality is consistent. Free miso with sushi entrees. If you got extra $$ get the toro, it's like BUTTA!
(5)Sarah E.
This is my fav sushi spot in town. The staff is super friendly and the food is amazing what more can you ask for. If you haven't tried their salad it's a must!!
(5)T B.
I absorutrey rove Asuka.. Best teppan around, solid sushi, and a full service bar. A management staff that will go above and beyond to see you return.
(5)Kathy M.
Outstanding selections and fine quality ! Hostesses usually are overwhelmed and do not appear friendly most of the time. The food overrides this fault.
(4)Jeremiah A.
This is my go-to place for a sushi fix in and around Lexington.
(4)Gwen O.
This is absolutely the best hibachi restaurant around! We usually order the teriyaki chicken and the yakisoba noodles. Sooooo good. The salad dressing is to die for and you can even buy it to take home :) they are usually pretty busy on the weekends fyi. There is also a full bar, a sushi bar and menu ordering side as well. We always bring family here that are visiting because we like it so much and they can do a large group.
(5)Parker L.
Service is Horrible!! This is the closest place for sushi to Nicholasville. The food was ok, but the service was terrible. Decided to try take out, and they leave something out , every single time. The hostesses are young and clueless.. They don't even try.
(2)Alan M.
Now here's a lunch to remember and to repeat we had hibachi steak, shrimp and scallops. And fried rice. We had a great chef and don't fill up on the rice including salad you get a lot of food, the steak, shrimp and scallops all had excellent flavor, the scallops were sweet, the shrimp had great taste without that strong fishy taste you get other places. Highly recommended!
(5)Tim W.
Asuka at Brannon Crossing was about average, almost average for this hibachi style restaurant formula. The food was good but not above average. My sister's tuna (toro) was a bit off and when she told the (rather slow) server that the tuna did not taste fresh she was told that it was not supposed to taste fresh. Raw fish is either fresh or it is nasty. My roll finally came in the middle of dinner. Oh well. There are better options around for Japanese Grills, like the trusty old Nagasaki Inn.
(2)Mike S.
I have eaten at this place twice and have gone to eat there three times. The past two visits it had been horrible. Went to the bar to order drinks and sushi with a friend. The bartender ignored us and took several other people's orders over ours that arrived to the bar area after we did. The most recent visit this occurred again and it was 4 different people that arrived and sat after we did that got orders and bills paid before we were even acknowledged and it was even busy. So we told the manager and he didn't seem to care about what was happening so we all left without ordering. My friends and I will never make the mistake of going here again after 2 repeat terrible experiences.
(2)Joanna S.
I may come back and change this when I'm less irritated, but I HATE this BS policy of not seating people until the entire party has arrived. Especially when 7 out of 10 of you are there, and the other people are driving in a severe thunderstorm from half-way across town. We told the host where they were coming from, that they were all riding together, and that they were on their way - this was not going to be a case of no-shows. Instead of seating us and letting us order drinks, we sat in the small entryway 15 minutes past our reservation time. When the other three people arrived, the host said he would "put our name down." Did they seriously give away our reservation in 15min? When 7 of us were sitting right there? So we stood/sat for another 10 min. I'm really not an irrationally picky/bitchy diner, but I really just don't get this policy. It cost us 25 min...big deal. It cost our server the tips he would have gotten on the round of alcohol 7 people would have ordered.
(1)Joshua D.
Tried the Red Bull Sushi Roll at the recommendation of the hostess, Michelle. This is now my favorite Sushi after having been stuck on the Carlifonia Roll since I started eating Sushi. Thanks Michelle.
(4)Joshua G.
My wife and I went to Asuka last night. It was our very first time at a Japanese restaurant. I must admit, we didn't know what to expect, but everyone we know has told us how good this place is. We were not disappointed. The food is excellent. We didn't try any sushi, but the chicken teriyaki was amazing. Watching the chefs perform on the grill is fun too.
(4)Lee P.
Asuka is easily one of the best Japanese restaurants in the area. The hibachi was like any other Japanese steakhouse...good. entertaining but like any other. The sushi on the other hand was OUTSTANDING! Fresh, flavorful and really creative. A good selection too.
(4)Steve B.
Great Sushi! Love the Wednesday specials, $2 off on all sushi. The grill is fun and kids will love the show.
(4)Leslie C.
A pretty good teppanyaki. We showed up for lunch and got a seat at the grill right away. Our chef gave good entertainment. Everything was delicious. My friend said the sushi was excellent. He tried to get me to try some but I "chickened out" and had the teriyaki chicken. Their fried rice was awesome. The prices are a little expensive though.
(3)J B.
The food is ok and not terrible or anything, however the prices are ridiculous. I've been to a lot of Japanese Steakhouses and this one just seemed like it exists simply to make money as a Japanese Steakhouse. I thought they could have had more of a steak selection instead of just offering "steak". Call me picky, but I like to know my cut.
(2)Tore L.
We booked reservations for a party 3 weeks in advance. Earlier in the evening we even brought the cake so obviously we were going. Reservations were for 1930 - we were seated a few minutes before 9. Manager said he would compensate for limo for being late and for missing our next reservations. After we paid for our meals (which were not discounted) he refused to make good on his word. Worst restaraunt by far, dishonest overpriced and not friendly. That was just wrong!
(1)Chuck L.
The sushi quality is very consistent here and "first - timer" friendly. Every Wednesday is $2 off each roll sushi/ makimono. Happy Hour drink specials & new menu coming to Asuka end of April / early May
(4)Kimberly C.
As Jon M. said, they have issues getting orders correct. Few things never showed up. Luckily didn't show on bill either. Pork katsu was weird and VERY salty. My main beef may be with the staff -- overly familiar, kept trying to suggest appetizers and drinks. Not cool.
(2)Keith W.
As mentioned in other reviews, the Chili Thai roll is incredible. Easily my favorite thing on the menu, but they have a great menu of rolls. Always a good meal here.
(5)Y Y.
Only one star to seaweed salad. But as a seaweed lover, I haven't had a bad one in a single Japanese restaurant. We ordered unadons but replaced the meat with eel. The quality of the rice was really bad. Or at least it was not freshly steamed. They placed some pickle vegetables together with the eel over the rice, which totally ruined the taste. This is not the worst. When I suggested the waiter skipping over the pickle part, he asked me if I am Japanese because he used to work at some Japanese restaurants and everyone did the same thing?! And he haven't heard about any complaints on the rice from other customers?! WHAT A WONDERFUL RESPONSE!!! All right, to be objective, the rice and unadon are much much better at Sugano and Osaka. I'll never come back to this So-called Authentic Japanese Restaurant!
(1)Chris T.
Good sushi, but nothing really special. Not a bad place for lunch, but I've never had dinner here.
(3)Beatrice H.
Food quality is perfect- the sushi always seems fresh and the chefs do fun arrangements. Staff is hard working and tries to remember you. The only negative is if you need a quick meal. Sometimes it seems like it takes a long time to get the food and to pay. The prices are like other area sushi places.
(4)Nick W.
Pretty good place. Service was great. Very attentive. We had no issue with getting everything that we ordered. Course, we went Sunday night for a late dinner so the place was pretty light on customers. Also, we sat at the sushi bar so we may have gotten extra attention (I recommend sitting at the sushi bar anywhere for just that reason) Sushi was priced pretty much like every other place but both the size and quality were better then most. Don't really care for the decor, but that's not what you're there for right? My biggest beef is that I couldn't get a beer! Cursed jessamine co. Blue laws! But, just don't go on Sunday if that's important to you. As we were walking in, they had a sign up for 2 dollar off sushi on Wednesday night, which I definately plan to go to. All in all, a nice place (except for the stinking blue law). I hope they do well. Update- apparently now that the township of nicholasville has been extended to the county line, the liquor laws are more forgiving.
(4)David H.
The sushi has a outstanding memory. It had been a couple of months since we had been here but he still remembered our favorite sushi. My favorite item is the Quail Egg in glass. For a mere $ 2.75 you get 2 shot glasses with 2 raw quail eggs, scallion, chili paste and sauce. This is, without a doubt, my favorite single item on any sushi/sashimi menu. I have had it in Louisville and Tucson but had one Heck of a time finding it around Lexington. Techniquely this is Jessamine County which brings up another point. If you enjoy a little hot sake with your meal, do not go here on Sunday. Its a real shame too because they have a nice looking full bar with many premium liquors not just the cheap stuff. Jessamine county still does the insane Sunday Blue Law crap. I guess its not a sin to drink 6 days a week as long as you do not do it on Sunday. Yeah, right, whatever. I do enjoy a little sake with my dinner and will not eat in Jessamine County again on a Sunday, lesson learned. As for the menu dishes, we had softshell crab and Ebi fry with vegetables. The tempura batter was waaaayyyyy to heavy and over whelmed the delicate flavor of all the items. Cut back on the batter guys. Like I said, come here for the Sushi/Sashimi and not on a Sunday.
(3)Sarah C.
I love this Sushi restaurant! Choices of hibachi grill, sushi bar or dining room is not the end to the difficult choices as you enter the restaurant. The list of lunch and dinner options are full of color, textures and flavor. The sushi menu is diverse with wonderful spicy chili rolls to a wonderful vegetable roll. Would recommend the house salad that comes with the most sexy ginger dressing that is completely addicting! The prices are decent and they have a fantastic Wednesday night special of $2 off per sushi roll.
(5)Jon M.
Nevermind...take it back. They can't get a simple order right. Avocado roll, vegetarian friendly. Can't be that hard to mess up, right? Wrong. Vegetarian does not equal meat or fish...I don't care if it's Lent.
(2)Susan B.
have been to Azukas twice, and both times have been served very fresh sashimi and favorable rolls! The Chili Thai roll is super! A balanced amount of spicy tuna salad , and red snapper...the Thai chili sauce on top is killer!

This is a great place for sushi. The fish has never been fishy, and all the rolls have been well made and maintained their integrity (I've been to plenty of places where the rolls fall a part). We've received mixed and neutral service, I can't praise nor complain about it. For food, it's good, but I need to tour some more restaurants.
(4)Jackie W.
I am extremely disappointed in this sushi. I am a huge sushi fan. I'm from the east coast, and I have been hunting for sushi close to being as good as I can find at home. So far KY has not even come close. This sushi came recommended. It looked great when I got it but as soon as I tried to eat it the rolls fell apart. Literally every one crumbled when k tried to pick it up. The pieces I could eat ended up being dry and bland. Though the sushi was lacking the miso soup and salad was great! The woman that took my order could barely speak English. Which isn't normally a problem for me. But when you are in customer service I think there needs to be a better understanding. So unfortunately, I am still on the hunt for good sushi here....
(2)Roberta B.
Sushi was really good, friendly staff but the only reason I'm giving 3 stars cause is to overprice.
(3)Rob S.
This goes for both Asuka locations in the Lexington and Jessamine County areas. None of the cooks understand that a COOKED onion means it does not have the warm, crunchy sulferous taste of a warmed raw onion. The sushi is overpriced, and the saki does not complement the meal. The coupon from grocery receipts is not worth the trouble, and I've recently realized the only reason I've come to this restaurant is for their garlic sauce that uniquely has a mustard like component. NOT WORTH IT!

I am still in search for a good Sushi place in Lexington. Miyako is the best so far but is still not what I'm looking for- but their service kills this Asuka place. I couldn't even get my water refilled here! I will be trying Tomo next in my quest for good sushi in lex.

Tried the Red Bull Sushi Roll at the recommendation of the hostess, Michelle. This is now my favorite Sushi after having been stuck on the Carlifonia Roll since I started eating Sushi. Thanks Michelle.

Asuka is easily one of the best Japanese restaurants in the area. The hibachi was like any other Japanese steakhouse...good. entertaining but like any other. The sushi on the other hand was OUTSTANDING! Fresh, flavorful and really creative. A good selection too.

Great Sushi! Love the Wednesday specials, $2 off on all sushi. The grill is fun and kids will love the show.

The sushi quality is very consistent here and "first - timer" friendly. Every Wednesday is $2 off each roll sushi/ makimono. Happy Hour drink specials & new menu coming to Asuka end of April / early May

As Jon M. said, they have issues getting orders correct. Few things never showed up. Luckily didn't show on bill either. Pork katsu was weird and VERY salty. My main beef may be with the staff -- overly familiar, kept trying to suggest appetizers and drinks. Not cool.

As mentioned in other reviews, the Chili Thai roll is incredible. Easily my favorite thing on the menu, but they have a great menu of rolls. Always a good meal here.

Sushi was really good, friendly staff but the only reason I'm giving 3 stars cause is to overprice.
