Went here Friday night (3-7-14) for the first time. I was meeting with a group of people. We were the first of our group to arrive. The host showed us to the reserved table and immediately sent over Jason, the waiter. We placed our drink order and settled in. Others soon joined us and we started placing food orders. Apparently the menu used to be quite expensive but has been pared down. I had a mushroom swiss burger and my friend had an appetizer - Gangster Balls (meatballs in a marinara sauce served with small pieces of crispy garlic bread). He thought the meatballs were really good! I liked the burger, but it was too well done for me. I don't hold that against them because I did not specify how I wanted it cooked and many places will only cook a burger well done (around here any way). The food was good. The drinks were good. The pianos were GREAT! The 3 guys there played Johnny Cash tunes, Rolling Stones (Sympathy for the Devil no less), T-Pain! Great repertoire and lots of fun. Wonderful participation from the rest of the patrons too! Fun time. I will Visit again. One note - They are only open on Friday and Saturday.

Very fun place. I ordered a Maker's & Coke that was mostly Maker's, so hopefully you are a fan of strong drinks. They played really great, known songs that everyone chimed in a bit. Definitely attracts an older crowd, which was more relaxed that some other nearby places. Prices for drinks were average to a little expensive. No specials that I know of. Definitely tip with your songs to get them played.

The music is great! You can request songs! And the pianist are very good. They have drums also. Plus a dance stage if you like dancing! The environment was really cool. Felt like a blast from the past! The only reason I am giving this 2 stars is because their food is atrocious. The spaghetti taste like spaghetti o's. That's not me being rude, funny or mean, its seriously spaghetti o's. The mottzerella sticks are gross. The breading is doughy. The pretzel bites are frozen bites that are thawed and placed in an oven (nothing bad there but if you're charging $12 for them then make them from scratch.) The potato skins are good but needs lots of salt and pepper. The wings sauce is good! They should seriously put the sauce on everything. It's delicious! I have no idea if it's scratch or bottle but it's good. I broke my tooth on the chicken. Yes you read that right, broke my tooth on the chicken. My boyfriend ordered a Philly cheese steak. It came with French fries. The French fries were crinkle cut frozen fries, the meat was steak-umm meat that you microwave... And the cheese was fake. Needless to say he didn't eat it. Nothing there had pizazz or flavor at all. I know what you're thinking, it's a piano bar, people come for the music. Then don't up charge, frozen fried food. Get a chef who can cook and charge $20 a plate! People will pay the price for good food and live music. Or just completely do away with food in general.

First time in the Dueling Piano Bar. Had a fun time. The musicians were interactive and engaging. Our Bartender who's name I believe was Kristen was wonderful. Attentive to our needs quick to refill drinks and she even sang. Very good singer and was just fun to b around. We went for drinks so did not order food. Drink prices were ok and drinks were well made not too strong but far from diluted. All in all a fun time.

Went there tonight. Waited at the front for at least 5 minutes before the hostess appeared. No greeting. Just "do you have a reservation". I said no, but I have a groupon and it doesn't say anything about reservations being required and my groupon expires today. Asked her if there was any way she could make an exception. All I got was "nope". So, we left after driving about 30 miles to get there. I was almost glad when we left because the place had an odd odor. It also looks like a strip club built in the 80s. Had pink neon lighting! It was real dark in there, too. That's always concerning.

Hostess was very kind when we first arrived and it all went downhill from there. Waitress was extremely slow and often ignored our table. She took so long to return at one point (despite us trying to get her attention) that a member of our party was no longer able to order off the general menu. Majority of staff and manager were rude. Piano players were entertaining and played well but ignored our first request despite it being early in the night, no other requests pending and tip was included (yet they ended up playing the song later in the evening). Night ended with the waitress and manager accusing a member of our party of not paying for her drink (another staff member took the check and cash and denied taking it). She ended up paying twice, received no apology and instead more grief from the manager. I cannot recommend this establishment to others and will not be returning.

I have wanted to go here for the last two years, but was not impressed. When we walked in it looked like a strip club, that was out dated. The drinks weren't bad, but the entertainment was pitiful. Two words for the people that go here..HOT MESS. I give this place less than a year...John Taffer would have a field day with this place.

I had a Living Social dinner deal, and I was down to the last week to use it. My mother- and sister-in-law were coming down for the weekend, so I figured that would be the perfect opportunity. My sister is underage, so we called to see if we would still be able to eat there, and we were told that minors are allowed until 9 PM on Fridays but not at all on Saturdays. That worked for us, so we headed over there around 8 PM. The food was nothing special, but everything was ok, except the Fried Ravioli, which was very bland. We ordered this drink that came in a fish bowl meant for sharing. It was $17 and much smaller than anticipated. I basically ended up drinking the entire thing myself with no noticeable effects. Overall, it was a fun atmosphere, especially if you're with the right group. The drinks seem pricey though if that over-priced over-iced fish bowl is any indicator.

Gangster's is a fun place to go on a weekend evening. My boyfriend, his parents, and I went there on Friday night at about 9:30pm and had a great time. At that time, it wasn't very crowded but there were a decent number of people there (we were seated at a table, not at the bar). The two guys on the pianos were hilarious, and they also have singing bartenders (so fun)! It would be a great place to have a birthday celebration (adult, of course) or a more low-key bachelor/bachelorette party (I'm actually considering that for myself now). The food is good and reasonably-priced, and the drinks are great (and they don't skimp on the amount of alcohol in them, like some places do).

So this place can totally give you the wrong vibe, at all times throughout the night. It's almost like it's not sure what it wants to be... which makes it great!! When we first got there a little after 7:30 on a saturday night, and as soon as we walked in we wondered if we were at the right place, and if being in jeans, no matter the heals or dress shirts, if we were grossly underdressed. One of the hosts told the other a table number and we told him we were just looking for the bar. Around to the right he directed us, and as we turned the corner, the thoughts we had at the door grew stronger. but we found some seats at the bar, and the bartender immediately put our mind at ease. The show doesn't normally start until 8:30 but they're trying to get started sooner especially if there's a lot of people here. So we ordered some drinks, and then discovered they have Buckets, or as the bartender put it, "buckets of booze" that were themed to the place as well. We ordered a Heading for the Border, that was like a giant margarita, and under $17 dollars, and totally worth it. The drinks are reasonable, and it seems the crowd really picks up after 9-9:30, and you realize there's people from all walks of life here. Old, young, classy, normal, it doesn't matter. The pianos are positioned right down the middle of the place with the tables/restaurant on one side and the bar, with some stage side seating on the other. There's some really nice private rooms in the back for parties, gatherings, and what not. There is also a seperate smoking room to the left when you first walk in that has doors on it and windows so you can see the stage if you need to take a smoke break without going outside, or invading anyone elses breathing area. I definately want to give this place a try for a late dinner and stay for the show sometime. They play a bunch of different music, and if you really want them to play a song, tip them nicely and they'll get to it sooner. And it doesn't seem any song is too new, too old, or too wierd for them.

I've been a couple times now. I really want to like it more than I do, unfortunately. But, everyone else seems to be having a great time, so don't let this dissuade you from going. It's a raucous atmosphere. Loud, boisterous, high energy. The singing is decent, and the song selection depends on the mood of the performers and the crowd that night. There is often a lot of crowd participation which makes this ideal for a large group that is in the mood to drink and party. To take full advantage of the experience, you should get involved in the song selection and participation aspects. There are a couple "private" room areas, but that just gives you all the noise with none of the experience. The food is so so. The drinks and prices are OK. One time I went the singing was a bit off, the song selection wasn't the best, and there were a few awkward moments. However, if you are drinking enough, and have all your friends with you, this isn't really an issue. I guess it comes down the fact that I've been to a number of dueling piano bars that I much prefer.

LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Was really surprised to have to add it on Yelp. Gangster's is located where the old Syndicate restaurant used to be. The theme of course is old Newport, Al Capone style. They're only open Thursday- Saturday, but that works for them. When you walk in, it feels like you stepped back in time, but in a very good way. The dueling pianos are fun, and everyone joins along. Thursday nights they even allow guests to come up and take the mic. There's a nice sized dance floor and even a pole to swing on. The food is pretty good, nothing fancy, but they have half priced apps on Thursdays. Also, great drink specials! FUN cocktail menu!! Highly recommend Pushing Up Daisies, Public Enemy #1, and Swimming With the Fishes (which actually has Swedish fish floating in your drink!!). The best part of Gangsters by far, is the amazing bar staff. Hogan and Kristi make it happen!! They both are performers which makes it extra fun, and they treat you like family immediately. Highly recommend for a date, a night out, or large parties!

FYI: flat bread = pizza. Not really the place you go for the food though- it is a piano bar! You go to hear people play the piano! This place is perfect for a large group, if not even more fun. Make sure the people you are with are up for some fun and aren't shy! The piano players will pick on you, but only jokingly. They sang a special song to the bachelorette, and took requests. Ahem, excuse me, recommendations. Recommendations turn into requests with several dollars! Ha! I had a blast and enjoyed the music. I would love to visit again sometime soon!

Maybe for you Nati natives out there, discovering that Newport, Ky was once the gambling mecca of the U.S. is "yesterday's news." However, it doesn't make this fact any less interesting or amazing to learn about. My friends and I like to pride ourselves on miandering outside of the monotenous bar scene to frequently experience the obscure, the different, the random. We have found that we have the most fun when we do. So, when Stacie D. decided on The Gangster Tour for the main entertainment for her husband's suprise birthday party, I was intrigued and hooked. This was going to be the cherry on this birthday sundae. The Gangster Tour, hosted out of the Gangsters Dueling Piano Bar, is an extremely interesting, fascinating and educational experience. The two young lads who guide you through this era, share the story line, walk you through the history and execute the overall tour so very well. I learned so much! They start in the Gold Room inside Gangster's Dueling Piano Bar with a 30 minute presentation of the rich history, the key people and the influences of the Newport gambling era. I didn't know any of this stuff. No one had ever told me. And, it was so entertaining. They were so knowledgeable and funny too. When the presentation is over, these dressed to impress tour guides take you on an hour long tour around the area pointing out the main areas of gangster action and history. This really brings the presentation full circle. You're easily able to piece the gangsters to the buildings and the stories to the gangsters. It's really nice too, that not only do you learn about the past and the history in the area, but the present and you hear storied about things the current owners of these buildings have found or stumbled upon in their time as owner. It's pretty cool! I give this tour an 8.5 out of 10. Most definitely worth the $15 and I'm certainly going to partake in some of the other options on their tour menu.

Don't go for the food, go for the pianos. Ludicrously silly singalong fun backed up by friendly staff, tasty martinis, buckets of booze and a (some would say tacky) strip-joint vibe. Hey, there's even a strippers pole on the dancefloor if you get so inclined. Just ignore the boorish frat boys and step over any bachelorette 'victims' on your way to the surprisingly well-appointed bathrooms. My only complaint - apart from the fact the food here is predictably average - is that the piano players don't dress up to add a little style and grace to their skills... the place IS called Gangsters after all?!!

Came here for a bachelorette party. Our waiter was fantastic, as was the food and our drinks. We used a Living Social deal and everything with the redemption process went smooth. I did think the crowd was thin for a Friday night, which is a shame because this place is super fun.

Don't go for the food, go for the pianos. Ludicrously silly singalong fun backed up by friendly staff, tasty martinis, buckets of booze and a (some would say tacky) strip-joint vibe. Hey, there's even a strippers pole on the dancefloor if you get so inclined. Just ignore the boorish frat boys and step over any bachelorette 'victims' on your way to the surprisingly well-appointed bathrooms. My only complaint - apart from the fact the food here is predictably average - is that the piano players don't dress up to add a little style and grace to their skills... the place IS called Gangsters after all?!!
