Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.

I started a vegan summer focused primarily on fruits and veggies and including only moderate amounts of grains (until I hit a target weight sometime in August 2015 that I haven't seen in many long time). As such, I've been re-evaluating the Bardstown Road strip's offerings for vegans and in that light ZAD has kind of moved into the fore of my attention. They have two very nice dishes on the menu in the section "No-Oil" menu both of which are excellent and one of which includes potatoes and carrots over a bed of rice that is the height of savory eating if you're having a vegan summer. I've always liked this 1616 Grinstead Dr. camelback home as a restaurant site and the interior is much improved over the prior incarnation at this location.

So, you'll need to go here, and soon. Salmon Tagine was off the chain - two generous pieces of fish over a very complex mix of spices, couscous and vegetables. I was kind of mad it was as filling as it was because that meant I couldn't try anything else! I looooooovvvve the interior. An old house where they kept the best aspects of the original architecture (the old fireplaces, windows, archways) and slicked out the rest with white walls, dark accents and modern artwork. Its like if i were to live in a restaurant I would totally move in here. service was on point, not too pushy, not too invisible. Yeah, I will be back for sure!

A nice place, the atmosphere was quiet and calm and the windows let in a ton of light. When me and my friend went the waiting staff really gave us our distance; it felt like that kind of place, ya know? The food was good, I got a pita wrap with falafel and humus which was really tasty and only $5. My friend got some sort of lamb dish for about $10 or $11. It's really vegetarian an vegan friendly. The only downside was that the food took a little long to come out, but it wasn't really that bad.

I am re-writing this review based upon our visit on 9/19/2015. Enjoyed the food at the restaurant, however come Tuesday morning my bank account did not appreciate being overcharged $35. Our meal with tax and tip was $24.00, but for some reason the amount charge to our bank account was $59. This is unacceptable, and we will not be returning. Check your bank accounts after your meal.

It's been awhile since I've penned a negative review, but I just had a deeply unsatisfying first-time experience at Zad. I ordered the lamb afeek ($10) to go, and got home to find a small bowl of stew (with soup-like consistency) covered in a layer of grease, from which I was able to fish out no more than two small, fatty pieces of lamb and some finely diced zucchini. The rice that came with it was also rather greasy, To be fair, everything tasted fine, but there was a rather scant amount of food, and what little there was was too greasy to enjoy. Two stars instead of one only because I thought the ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and compelling, and because the menu looks good in general. I'm hopeful that I simply ordered the wrong thing, perhaps at the wrong time, and accordingly I'll probably give Zad another try...

Mediterranean Food. Awesome location at Bardstown and Grinstead. Owners of Grape Leaf. When I heard about Zad that would focus on carry-out and some in-house seating, I knew we had to give it a try. There's ample seating and a fantastic atmosphere with the modern art on the walls. We both had delicious salads which were a hearty portion! I got the tahini salad; the dressing was dreamy! My friend got the Chopped Zad Salad with chicken as her meal. I added a chia-seed falafel to my meal, which is definitely out of the ordinary, and so tasty! Zad fulfilled our goal to eat healthy in a very tasty way. I can't wait to go back. Check this place out if you are in the neighborhood.

I love Zad! Delicious and fresh food. There are plenty of vegan options. Even an oil free section as well. The staff are smart, friendly and attentive. This is probably my favorite place to eat.

I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap and it tasted really good but my complaints are that for the price, it seemed pretty stingy with the amount of chicken and fillings that it had (and it came with no sides). I love the grapeleaf and I'm a huge fan of falafel house so this was a bit disappointing.

Ordered takeout and everything was exceptional. The baba ganoush was served with warm pita, onions, tomatoes and peppers. I also ordered the chicken targine which was served with couscous. Very reasonably priced and excellent quality. Highly recommended.

Tasty food, decent prices. Lamb kebob was a little on the dry side. Pomegranate mint lemonade was very good. Will stop by again.

I was never a fan of Pita Delights when it occupied this location. It was dark, dingy and I never felt comfortable eating there (only twice). I watched the reno on the building and when I saw the new massive glass french doors go in along with the swanky sign on the side of the building I was really excited. I'm a massive fan of the Grape Leaf and I heard that Zad was owned by the same family. With the exception of the same funky seafoam green chairs, they did an impressive overhaul of the interior (the bathroom is a work of art). It is full of light with those gorgeous french doors and the bay window on the alley side brightening the place enormously. The art is contemporary and fits the vibe of the space (thankfully, the "Nighthawks" interpretation with figures vaguely resembling Biggie Smalls, Michael Jackson and other now departed folks is no longer hanging over the fireplace). The service is a bit hit and miss but the food is all I hoped for. Everything is parsed on the menu so you can approach the ordering experience similarly to a tapas place. The hummus is every bit as good as what the Grape Leaf serves, though I haven't had the za'tar pita yet. The gyro sandwich was ample and moist, definitely not made of Steakums as a previous reviewer stated. The Modern Greek salad is refreshing with a pomegranate vinaigrette, friends ordered the lentil soup (huge bowl) and the veg briyani (a hit). I haven't had any dessert yet, so can't speak to the sweets on the menu. I do not know if they allow you to bring in wine like the Grape Leaf does. Personally, I can't wait for fall so I can enjoy dining on the new deck, or even inside when the french doors are thrown open wide. Love it!!!

Every time I drive by here I think to myself "I really need to try that place" and finally I have! My party of 2 ordered the baba ganoush appetizer, a falafal taco, a soup that I cant remember the name of, and a beef & lamb gyro. I'm still relatively new to Mediterranean food, but everything I had was amazing and super fresh. They also have parking behind their building so don't let the fact that it seems like there's no parking deter you. Will definitely be returning!

Their Grape leaf is goood. Service is perfect. Me and my froend ordered 2 different dishes and they were fantastic.

Definitely try this gyro! Beef and lamb.. Add onions/peppers or avocado. Very reasonably priced. Quick service.

This place is SO GOOD. Our server gave very detailed descriptions of several menu items. I was impressed with his knowledge of the food. We ordered hummus as an appetizer and it was by far the best hummus I've ever had. It was topped with olive oil which added a great flavor and the pita chips were delicious. For the entrée, I had a gyro which was also very good. I highly recommend this restaurant.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE NEW REVIEWS, not the old ones. I think it is a little unfair that their ratings are weighted down by the restaurant that was previously in this location under different ownership. I never really went to Pita Delites because it was never that memorable. I've been to ZAD probably a half a dozen times since it opened and there is so much that I love about it. The food is fresh and creative and very tasty. The salads are all very good. The lamb gyro was amazing and is scented with some really unique but delicious flavors. Actually, all of the wraps have been good, except I didn't really care for was the tofu mushroom wrap. The lamb burger is also very tasty, and the fries are surprisingly good. (TIP: they will give you a huge delicious salad if you decide to be healthy and sub out the fries for salad.) The avocado bowl is SO GOOD and should ALWAYS be ordered as an appetizer. They don't have alcohol there, which is a bummer, but good for a night when you are trying to keep it chill, and also good for carry out. (their sister restaurant, grape leaf, does allow BYOB with no corkage fee, which might be the best thing ever) Overall, it my new favorite place to eat, and the highlands has long needed an addition like this to their dining scene.

Not a Zaytun replacement but it's close enough for now. Spanikopita was good, more spinach and less phyllo made this one different than any we have had and also much better than most. We both got gyros, chicken with honey mustard on one beef with tziki sauce on the other. Both were good, ingredients seem fresh. Never seen the option for honey mustard but it worked. Pita bread was ok, but nothing like Zaytun. I think the gyro starts with the bread, if you have amazing house made pita you have the start to a good gyro. Toppings were not overdone but just enough to get all the flavors in there. Also had the rice with cauliflower, which was very light and seasoned nicely. Overall it was pretty good, would return for another gyro when I get the craving. Honestly I hope they make it, but with so many choices on Bardstown road you have to do better than just good. I would stick with the gyro and make it the best in town and build around that.

This is the BEST Gyro I have had in Louisville. The pita is moist, plenty of sauce and meat, and veggies too! Service was great as well. I even got a to go cup of tea! So nice. Go check it out!

Highly underrated place so far.. Many people I recommend this place to have not herd of it, I'm guessing because it's still new. I am a huge fan of gyros and a close friend of mine recommend this place to me knowing this. Walking in, the atmosphere was a little odd. Almost just looked like a living room to a house. Gave off a weird feeling. Out server Reggie was very very polite and had extensive knowledge of the menu memorized like the back of his hand. I tried everything he suggested including the fresh mint and fresh squeezed lemonade, the house prepared hummus and pita bread, and the lamb and beef gyro. Everything over exceeded my expectations and as a true food lover I can be very hard to please. The hummus came with many accompaniments and warm pita bread that was refreshed just before we ran out. My gyro was full of flavor and the tzatziki was prepared perfectly. I was left full and completely satisfied knowing id come back again. Not to mention the prices are quite amazing. I could only give 4 stars because the lack of furnishing or of atmosphere. I would love to see them create a real theme throughout the dining area. On another note I had accidentally left my debit card and our waiter Reggie Neloms messaged me on Facebook notifying me which I thought was clever and very respectable. I will be back again soon and hope to have the same waiter.

Gyro, fries, and salads are all very good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is really nice.

Absolutely horrible. horrible. Are you people insane, or are you used to steak ums as gyro meat? Huge joke and rip off. I'm so pissed, I want to drive back and get my money back. Worst gyro I have ever had. Ever. Should have known when I walked in and it was completely empty at 8 on a Thursday on bardstown road. You suck!
