I really like this particular OSF location. It's historic and pretty. I enjoy looking at the stained glass windows and high tin ceilings. I've always had acceptable service here, ranging from "decent" to "good". My last visit fell under the latter category, with a friendly and accommodating waitress who didn't mind that we waltzed in 20 minutes before closing. The menu consists of almost pure comfort food, and that's what I want and expect of OSF. I find portion sizes to be quite generous. I agree with everyone else on the planet that their mizithra and browned butter sauce is to die for, as well as the creamy pesto salad dressing. I usually order a big ol' plate of spaghetti with half meat sauce and half mizithra sauce. I find the mizithra to be a little monotonous and overpowering on it's own; mixing the two together was a tip I got from my husband (he used to frequent the Atlanta location years ago, before it closed down for good).

Surprisingly nice inside, seems to be a restored old victorian hotel and bar, or made to look like one. Other locations from this chain have been disappointing to me. Poor service, over priced and nothing to get excited about in the decor or the food. In many ways this location surprised us. The furnishings are surprisingly well appointed in a glamourious victorian area way with rich woods, chairs, chandeliers and antique beveled mirrors. Not really Italian to me but still very nice, perfect for a prom date dinner or an upscale presentation where you can still come in for lunch in shorts and a t-shirt. The service staff was well trained and friendly, attentive without restoring and patient with our 3 year old grand daughter. The food was ok, not great, not bad either fairly priced and somewhat underwhelming but acceptable. Kind of like all the other locations in this chain across the US. Still go once for lunch to enjoy the venue. Not a place I'd pick for a higher grade romantic Italian restaurant or to take business people from out of town. But still, perfect for lunch and often not too busy.

A-OK is the perfect way to describe The Old Spaghetti Factory. I've been coming here for years as it's a great old stand-by. The best part about the menu is that most items are all-inclusive. This means you get tea, soup or salad, bread, an entree, and a small cup of spumanti or ice cream for dessert. Most items are around $10, so this is a great deal! The food is good, but not anything special. Though I know some individuals who are somewhat addicted to their brown butter and mizithra cheese noodles... I recently dined here for lunch for a networking event and setting up a reservation was simple and the staff was accommodating. Service is always pleasant. If you're in the downtown area looking for a good deal on some decent Italian, this is worth a stop. Otherwise, not really worth a special trip.

I thought it would be a little different if an experience. The food wasn't as tasty as I thought it would be (it was still good). I had the spaghetti and ravioli combo and it was kind of plain. There wasn't anything fantastic about it. Also the atmosphere was a little bit different than I thought. It was really loud inside (probably due to all of the kids). Other than those few things it was still an overall good time. My complaints were basically from having higher expectations before I walked in. We had reservations so we walked right in and set down. Our overall seat time was around 50 minutes.

I like the Spaghetti Factory just fine, but I do not crave it. The decor brings it up to 3.5 stars in my opinion. Besides the awesome decor and location, my favorite thing on the menu is the house creamy pesto salad dressing. Although I am not a fan of creamy dressings, I really like this one. It is thinner than your regular ranch, but coats the boring iceberg lettuce sufficiently. My entree of Spaghetti Vesuvius was not as attractive as the menu described: chicken cubes, sausage crumbles, peppers and onions were all smothered with thick orange cream sauce...I'm not sure I found the meatballs as described on the menu. Hubby liked his Chicken Parmigiana just fine. But we can't help but notice just how small that piece of chicken was. All in all it was a fine visit. Hubby and I agreed that this is one of those places that we will visit maybe once or twice a year.

I met someone for lunch here the other day and it was pretty good! I had the spinach and cheese ravioli, which came with a salad and ice (didn't realize it was the dinner portion, whoops). It tasted good and the service was great! However, I hate to admit, I'm not a big fan of chains, and this was definitely not your cute neighborhood Italian restaurant. I don't have anything bad to say, as I enjoyed my food but it was nothing spectacular.

Spaghetti Warehouse has always been just mediocre to me. Tonight we thought we'd try their gluten free pasta. The pasta itself was cooked well, not too mushy, but the sauces are not that great. My husband, who didn't have a gluten free meal, (chicken marsala) thought his was just ok. For the price, the food should be much better.

I was expecting sort of a chain restraint feel when I came here for lunch. The decor is actually pretty interesting, a lot of old features like leaded glass doors and huge chandeliers. Beyond that the meal was quite underwhelming. Could have gotten better food at a chain, sadly. I ordered the angel hair pomodoro. The meal came with a salad and ice cream for dessert included in the price. Also had a loaf of bread with butter. Bread and salad came first- crusty but warm bread, salad drowning in dressing. The house dressing was good but way too much was used. Basic iceberg lettuce made it a sad salad. Meal had some more sadness. Noodles were cooked to almost mush, no give at all which I sort of expected given that it seems like more a fast meal type of place. Even so, not my favorite sauce either. Very...salty? Was expecting at least a little better sauce but was lacking any freshness or crisp tastes. The ice cream was alright, small scoop but had decent flavor at least. The best part of the meal was my server actually. She was very nice and made me feel very welcome. I may return here and try another dish. For the price the food isn't bad, kind of get what you pay for here.

The Old Spaghetti Factory will always have a special place in my heart. When I was a kid, I thought it was the fanciest restaurant around. Being in the heart of downtown (where we didn't go very often) and having huge chandeliers, a grand staircase, brass handled doors, antique-looking furniture in the waiting area, and a TROLLEY in the dining room...yeah, that's fancy to a kid. And even still as an adult I enjoy going. It's just a lovely building in our lovely city and nothing had changed about it. As for the food, it's a great value and is consistently good. You can dine on an entree, salad, bread, and ice cream for dessert, plus a beverage (tea) for $10-15. That can't be beat. Portions are ample so you are sure to leave full. I really like the meatballs, the mizithra cheese & browned butter spaghetti, and the tortellini. I'm not a big fan of the lasagna, however. For a "fancy" night on a budget, this is a solid choice.

An indecisive son on what was for lunch, he chose here. Our server was very friendly and nice. The food was good as usual and the Spumoni ice cream is great. This restaurant is great for kids and adults alike. It's in a good location but parking can be a small problem if the parking garage is full. One major downfall is that the restaurant closes after lunch rush and reopens at dinner. I watched several families/groups get turned away and didn't look pleased.

I love historic locales and decor! That alone earns OSF 5 stars! How a place can have both a romantic atmosphere as well as family and festive all at the same time is wonderful! Great for an inexpensive yet fancy dress up date nite! Fabulous for a big family get together as well! Only 4 stars because the background clamor can get kind of loud.

This place made me feel like I was on the Titanic, mostly because of how beautiful it was on the inside. We were told there was a 30 minute wait, thankfully it only ended up being 10 or so. First off our server Courtney was very friendly and very helpful. I had The Half and Half. 2 generous portions of Spaghetti and Raviolis. It comes as a 3 course meal as most their entrees do, Salad or Soup, Dinner, then Dessert. Also fresh bread. The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was very nice and casual. A very upscale, classy feel for not that bad if price. We even sat in the old railway car they have converted into seating. All in all, a wonderful dinner.

The Spaghetti Factory is a casual, inexpensive Italian option. I most often frequent here for lunch, as their lunch menu is a great deal for delicious food. For around $8 you get your entree, fresh bread with garlic butter, and a house salad or soup. You can add a scoop of spumoni ice cream for dessert for $1. I LOVE the Mizithra Cheese and Browned Butter dish. The Sicilian Meatballs are also extremely good. The service is friendly and quick. I've never had bad service, and I'm generally in and out in around 45 minutes (for lunch). The restaurant really is beautiful and unique. It's full of dark wood, chandeliers, marble, stained glass, and high ceilings. The interior design and ambiance of this place is very elegant, and makes you feel like you are fine dining. The bar area is upstairs. There's a train car in the center that has several tables inside. Kids really enjoy dining at one of these tables. The Spaghetti Factory is a great value, consistently good, and a solid choice for affordable Italian. Keep in mind that my reviews are a bit more generous for lunch spots. I suppose I have higher expectations for dinner. While the food is good, I don't often come out of my way to visit here for dinner.

This is a chain that started in CA, but the Louisville location has been a family favorite for a long time. In fact, I have spent many-a-birthday with my family and a few friends eating pasta, bread, and spumoni ice cream around a big table at the OSF. It's a unique building, full of hard wood and Tiffany lamps. The food is solid and consistent (though not super fancy)--and the prices can't be beat. Meals come with bread, soup or salad, entree, and icecream...which would really add up anywhere else. It's great for groups, but if you go as a pair during off hours or a weekday, you can get a seat on the trolley car---which is just plain fun. The one drawback---they take reservations, to a point, but if they won't give you one because they have to many on the books, you'll be waiting it out for a while on busy weekend nights. If you reserve early or plan for the wait, it's not so bad. Just be warned.

Great spot for dinner. Our server (Ryan) was fantastic! It was only his 2nd day and he was on point! I'm visiting from California and I have to say that, when I come back, I'll definitely be coming here for dinner. A+++

My family and I decided to give this place a shot yesterday. First off, don't order salads here ( they're awful ). As a side you can also pick a soup which were decent. My main dish was chicken Marsala, to that I give a 1 star, honestly I could have made a better one with my eyes closed. On the bright side, the Service and my desert which came with coffee was excellent. Overall I would give the food a one star but my server was amazing and the dessert and coffee cup were out of this world, this would be somewhere I will stop for this slice of cake but never pasta or any type of main dish.

The location and ambiance says fine dining, the paper menus on the table say casual and inexpensive. After a day of shopping at the new outlet mall in Simpsonville, I met a friend in Louisville for dinner. I had never been to the Old Spaghetti Factory before, but many of my friends love to come here when they are in Louisville, so I assumed that this is the place to go! The restaurant is beautiful with old dark wood, stained glass, glass chandeliers, and high ceilings. I recommend eating here for no other reason than to see such elegance. I enjoyed a hearty portion of spaghetti with rich meat sauce. My meal came with a salad, bread, and a scoop of ice cream for dessert. I felt that this was a great value at $10.59. My friend ordered a salad and her dinner didn't come with a scoop of ice cream, but our waiter brought her a complimentary scoop anyway. It was her birth month, after all.

My guy and I both grew up going to The Old Spaghetti Factory that was located in Jack London Square in Oakland, California. Since it's been gone for quite some time, we decided to go one night while in Louisville. Since it was later, there were not that many people there. We got to sit in the trolly car and felt like kids for the night. Our waiter was really, really nice. We ended up talking to him for awhile because he was so friendly. I ordered the Basil Gin Cooler which was really good, not very sweet and refreshing. My guy ordered a whole carafe of chianti, why not splurge? lol. You get the whole meal when you are here, from soup or salad, meal, soft drinks or coffee and spumoni for dessert. I went with the minestrone and my guy ordered the salad, we both chose 1/2 ravioli and 1/2 spaghetti with a side of meatballs. The food is not authentic in anyway, but it was good and inexpensive for dinner. Although it's not the finest meal in town, it's really not bad at all. It's great for families and groups since the meals are three course with bread and beverage. It's a fun and inexpensive place, yet has the fanciest decor around. Most of all it was a nostalgic dinner for the both of us and for that, I am a fan.

5 of us went there for lunch today at 1:00pm. When we got to the hostess station in an empty lobby, the hostess said you'll have a 25-30 minute wait. We couldn't figure out why it would take so long and the waitress proceeded to tell us that there were only 5 waitresses and they were overloaded. We left. This business must have lots of cash to give a lame excuse of "our waitresses are too busy". Too bad, I heard this place has good food.

On a recent trip to Louisville, our group of friends decided to hit The Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner. On a Saturday night around 7:30, we figured it was going to be jammed. The crowd waiting outside told us we were right, but upon checking in with the host, they told us our party of six would be seated "any minute." Sure... But we were! We waited about 10 minutes, and they opened a separate dining area, flooding one poor server with a room full of tables. While we waited, we got to check out the restaurant's decor, which is something of an Old World Italian family meets Victorian yard sale style. A little hodge-podge, but very warm and inviting, with high wood ceilings, sparkly chandeliers and Tiffany-like lanterns, and formal dark sideboards. The bathrooms are rotten: you have to go through a doorway that has no window, and on both trips I made to the loo, I almost got bowled over by someone coming through from the opposite direction. The restrooms themselves are dark and have poorly latching stall doors in the women's room. Yuck. Our server was a young guy, who was obviously fairly new at the profession. In fairness to him, because they opened the dining room and then pushed a whole slew of people in, all his tables were at the same stage of ordering, and it had to be a nightmare to try to get everyone drinks and bread before the first table started griping about placing an order. So clearly, management should probably reconsider how they staff, or let people wait a little longer before filling tables. Our table ordered three Chicken Parm entrees, a seafood dish, a lasagna, and I (foolishly) ordered the Clam Sauce pasta. Our dinner mates aren't terribly picky, so they were pleased with their traditional meals. I had higher hopes for the clam sauce I ordered. The menu described it as a light clam sauce with white wine and garlic. I was picturing a fresh, brothy, light sauce to cover al dente pasta. NOT what I got. What arrived was overcooked pasta slathered in what I can only assume was a can of canned New England clam chowder! There were even tiny perfectly-square chunks of potato in it! Thick and gloppy are a far cry from the fresh, light white wine and garlic sauce the menu presented! My husband, who had ordered the lasagna, said he'd had better lasagna from a Stouffer's frozen tray. As far as prices, I did like that my meal was under $10, which included a cup of coffee (meh) and a dish of spumoni (also meh). But frankly, I'd have happily paid an additional $5.00 for the food to have been of better quality. New England clam chowder, for crying out loud! Who thinks to pour that on pasta??? I strongly discourage anyone who has even a semi-tolerant palate from visiting the Old Spaghetti Factory. Louisville has too many other fantastic food joints to waste a dinner trip here.

Ate here on a weekend trip from NYC. The only thing this place has going for it is the ambiance (building interior and exterior are beautiful) and the waitstaff was friendly. We ordered the Chicken Parmesan and Fettuccine Alfredo and both were pretty disappointing. You honestly could have done better at home with a jar of Ragu. At least it was inexpensive but honestly still not worth it except for the architecture and perhaps if you are feeding young children who don't really care what their food tastes like...

Good modest food. Great atmosphere! Our kids loved the cheese bread appetizer. Price was very affordable. Family of 4 that are for $50.00

The atmosphere was great. It has a fancy feel and the kids enjoyed it. The food was lacking. Spaghetti with meat sauce seemed watered down. The salad was lettuce only with a few croutons. I choose the creamy pesto dressing and I was pleased with my choice. It was the best part of my meal. Sad to say.

The good: the ambiance and interior design, the bad: the food, service and wait time. The rundown: In downtown Louisville this restaurant sits. It attracts you from the outside with a huge sign and a rustic look until you get to the huge and heavy brass doors. Once inside you really believe you are in for something amazing, shining chandeliers, marble countertops, the pieces of furniture with intricate inlays. A neat attraction sits in the middle of the restaurant which looks like a little train car which you see people eating in, and it hits you, their theme is to look like the inside of one. Vintage lamps, wood panelling, they really took their time on the interior design. Then you see the menu, it quickly goes downhill from here. With very few options, and none of them sounding great, on a double sided sheet of paper, my expectations dropped tremendously. After ordering we received their complimentary bread, which was dry and tasteless. I receive the most bitter salad of my life next, I don't know what torture they brought to this salad. The food comes out after a 40 minute wait and looks like something that was poured out of a can and heated up. The taste is something Chef Boyardee would be proud of. The impression: don't go here if you value your tastebuds. The only reason to visit is to see the beautiful inside, but please don't eat. To get the extra 3 stars they could start by making their food from scratch, or at the very least do something a little different than pouring packages onto a plate.

I made a pit stop here after a trip to Louisville Slugger factory(its only a few blocks away). The food is decent but the servive is awesome and the atmosphere is enchanting(kids will love it). We came on a sunday and it was not that busy. We sat in the trolley, which the kids loved. The waitress was nice and attentive. They serve 3 course meals which include salad, a pasta dish, and ice cream. An overall good time.

Easter Sunday and this place was still fun, quick and affordable. We were just arriving in Louisville on spring break driving tour and weren't sure where we'd be able to get dinner, The Old Spaghetti Factory didn't disappoint. The food was fresh and plentiful and the service was excellent.

I decided to eat here for lunch only because I had never been here before. I said I wasn't going to come back because I went here the day before and they turned me away because they did not have enough waiters on staff!! I had the lunch special which I thought included ice cream but the waitress told me that was only for dinner and not at lunch which was disappointing, and a little misleading. So for $9 I had a bowl of pasta, bread and a salad. The bread tasted like cheap French bread you get at the grocery store and it was not at all seasoned. Most of the lettuce was white with very little green and no tomatoes just croutons and dressing. The spaghetti is nothing to ooh and aah over that's for sure. I had a plate of half-and-half spaghetti. One was with no sauce just butter and cheese and the other was marinara with canned mushrooms....not good at all! The mizithra cheese was not melted so when you put the pasta in your mouth you could feel the flakes of cheese in your mouth which was not a pleasing texture. $9 for a lunch for what I got was way overpriced. The only thing good about the visit was that my waitress was polite and I was able to get in and out in under an hour there. I would only go back when fat rabbits fly.

  • Kathy V.

Pleasantly surprised. I don't know why my expectations were so low, but I didn't have particularly high hopes for the place. We came here because some friends made reservations and I was along for the ride. You get a LOT of good, delicious food for a very decent price. Bread and butter starts you off, as in most Italian places. All meals come with soup or salad and end with a bowl of spumoni ice cream. I had the Garlic Mizithra as my main course and it was scrumptious. So good... It is now on my list of viable downtown dinner options, where before I never would have even considered it.

I stumbled upon this place and was intrigued because I saw a group literally waiting outside the doors for it to open for dinner. Maybe they were just really hungry or waiting for someone, but that sense of "can't wait to get in" lured me. The ambiance is really cool. High ceilings, a train car, large hanging chandeliers and some fancy artwork. Probably a fantastic place for a big group or a kid's birthday dinner. The food was nothing to write to Mama Leona about (Mama Leona is a fictional Italian woman I just created). Your entree comes with either a side salad or a cup of soup. I chose the side salad and it was the most pathetic thing I've seen in the world of side salads. Someone obviously opened a bag of pre made salad, threw it in a bowl, tossed in three small croutons, and then doused it with vinaigrette dressing. It was SAD. Until the steaming hot loaf of bread arrived. The party then began. This bread was so fresh and right out of the oven I couldn't cut it using my bare hand to hold it. But I persevered and enjoyed some very tasty accompaniment to my sad, sad side salad. For dinner I had the chicken Marsala which came with spaghetti. Not terrible, but again, my fictional Mama Leona wouldn't have been impressed. The chicken was cooked well and the grated parm on my noodles was A-OK. I guess each meal comes with ice cream because I was ordered to keep my spoon and suddenly a scoop of Neapolitan landed in front of me. I had a few bites and called it a day.

Pass on this place. Decor and dessert were the nicest parts of the evening. Better off staying at home and heating a Stouffer's lasagna dinner. Very dissapointed and will never go here again.

I've been living in Louisville for almost a year, and the Spaghetti Factory has been recommended to me several times. I went tonight with my date, and although it was high school prom night (!) The two of us were seated almost immediately. The restaurant is gigantic, and the Victorian decor is warm and pleasant, boasting dark hardwood accents with lots of mirrors and chandeliers. We were seated in an old trolley car in the center of the first floor. Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable. She made several recommendations for cocktails, wine, and apps. I tried the Factory Punch which was a house special and I found it to be a perfect balance of stiff and sweet. We ordered the shrimp, spinach, and artichoke dip, and it was delicious. The dip was complemented by toast triangles, which held up well. I was impressed by the chunks of shrimp and veggies, it wasn't just a bowl of flavored cheese. For entrees we had a large piece of meat lasagna, which was flavorful although it didn't have many layers (2-3), and a chicken fettuccine alfredo dish. Cream sauce was good, with broccoli florets, and sauteed mushrooms. I agree with other reviewers of this dish regarding the chunks of chicken - the meat had a strange texture, and although the flavor was right, it didn't seem like it's fresh for some reason. Portions are large, I left with enough for another meal. Our entrees were 3 course, and came with a salad, ($1.50 upgrade for Caesar), bread, and Spumoni for dessert. Actually the garlic butter that was served with the bread was delish. I took extra to go! Overall a very decent dining experience. If you don't want pasta, then skip it, they don't have many other options. However, they do offer gluten free spaghetti and vegetarian dishes. I was disappointed that the 3 course dinner only had one dessert choice. We were too full to eat our Spumoni, and we couldn't take it to eat later, so it was ultimately wasted. Large parties and families with children are easily accommodated in this huge space. Parking is meter or in the parking garage next door- $5. We were not able to make a reservation or do call-ahead seating, so be ready to wait at the bar or outside when it's busy.

I last visited here as a child and remember a fun time, sitting In the train, and having good food. Came back to rekindle old memories . The place still had the fun neat vibe to it. We had a great server. I so wanted to believe the food would be better than some reviews would lead. I ordered the crab ravioli and it was pretty good but I did switch the Alfredo to the marinara. Not great but have had worse. I prb would of suggested a 3 if the salad was even remotely decent. I can not believe how poor of a salad they serve at a decent restaurant. Think a grocery stress 99 cents bag dumped in a small bowl but with less items. If I were to return I do a soup instead, as salad was pitifully and worse than side salads at fast foods. Did enjoy the free itilian icecrram scoop. Overall it was decent, not over the top, but a place familes should at least visit once.

Gluten free options, vegan options, awesome service. Rachel was warm, down to earth, attentive, helpful, and sweet to two out-of-towners! Being from Chicago, she gave us great tourist advice, food advice...I would come back to this place again just for the great food and good conversation with her! Thanks, Rachel for making our dining experience perfect!!

Let me start by saying - I'm not a huge pasta eater these days. With that in mind, I must say that my evening here was a very enjoyable experience, and I suspect it will become one of the 'regular' places in Louisville when the mood strikes. First off, I would STRONGLY suggest calling ahead for reservations if you are planning on making an appearance here on the weekend, or near 'standard' dinner times. Especially if you have 4 or more people in your party. The ambiance and history at this restaurant are enthralling, and elevates one a bit up from 'just a pasta joint'. I honestly don't think the names does the place 'justice' and though the food may pretty standard fare for the most part, there are a few things that definitely shine. Try the crab ravioli. Seriously. Almost like ocean sex in the mouth. And the bread that comes with 'everything', also incredible. If you are in the mood for some 'Olive Garden' type Italian - do yourself a favor and upgrade to The Old Spaghetti Factory. I think it was actually less expensive, and the food is MUCH better. I'll add more useful 'specifics' with followup visits, I promise.

Stopped in to watch a hockey game, drink a beer, eat some food with my wife. Knew they had DirecTV and it was free view week for Center Ice, so the game was going to be on. Too, saw at least 10 TV's. Asked if we sit where we could see a TV and put on hockey game and was told 'the remote was broken can't Change the channels'. I call BS, and I won't be back.

Located in the heart of Louisville a block from the Yum Center, this is the go to place for my family especially prior to attending an event. Nicely decorated with old world charm complete with a full size caboose for dinning inside. There supposedly is "call ahead" seating, but apparently that depends on who is answering the phone. Wait time for dinner can be excruciatingly long regardless of how crowded the restaurant is. This seems to be the result of the fact that they appear to be chronically understaffed. The food however is both flavorful and plentiful. It is also quite a good value with my most recent visit costing only about $120 for a party of eight. So be sure to pack plenty of patience when you visit and you will be rewarded with a fine dinning experience.

My husband and I took our two boys and another friend's son to this restaurant. We thought it would be a nice ending to a nice day as we had just come from the science center. When you walk in, it looks kind of dark. Everything is red and black and the lighting is low. The place was VERY loud. I'm not sure if it was because they were busy or the acoustics are terrible but it was loud. The train was not conducive to our party of five because there wasn't a table big enough. We sat in the back of the restaurant. I ordered chicken Marsala my husband got lasagna, and each of the boys got spaghetti. I must say, it was the most disgusting thing I have seen served in a restaurant in a LONG time. The spaghetti the boys had looked like it came out of a school cafeteria, and it tasted that way too. My chicken was odd tasting and almost sour. It was also VERY small. My husband's lasagna looked and tasted like it was one of those Stoffer's frozen lasagnas. I was actually almost surprised a bill even came because I really don't understand how you could possibly want to charge someone for this poor excuse for food. For what it was it was VERY overpriced. I will NOT be going back there, and neither should you. If Italian food really tasted like this, there would be no one left in Italy.

The menu is simple and prices are very affordable. Perfect atmosphere for a family or a casual dinner date! Service was great and food was absolutely delicious! Some of the best marinara sauce I've ever eaten.

Wait staff excellent, kitchen SLOW, food quality marginal. Severely overcooked lasagna meal delivered one hour after ordered; had to be replaced; meatballs on dinner tasted freezer burned or 3-4 days old. Take your hard earned money elsewhere.

This place isn't a fancy, fine dining, authentic Italian restaurant and when you go here, you have to keep that in mind and adjust your expectations, it's not authentic, gourmet food. With that said, I LOVE the fact that they offer mizithra cheese over pasta in a brown butter sauce. This is actually one of the only places I've seen this offered and it's delicious. I am not too keen on their red sauces BUT the chicken Marsala with the pasta and mizithra cheese and browned butter sauce is so tasty, I get it every time. Seriously, if you go there get this!!!

The Old Spaghetti Factory had a very good appetizer...Sicilian Garlic Cheese Bread. That, started our taste buds to wonderland. Then my husband got the chicken fettuccine Alfredo dish with mushrooms and broccoli. He said the flavor was ok, the sauce was so thin that it splashed in his eye. And he said the chicken reminded him of cat food. I had the penne pasta with marinara sauce and I added chicken. The pasta and marinara sauce was fantastic!! But I will say that the chicken was disgusting. It felt like they cooked it too much because it was really dry, or it came out of a can. Our server was fantastic and constantly brought us new drinks. Would I come back here?? Maybe for the appetizer but not for anything else. (Ate at around 2:30p on 3/23/13

The decor out weighs the food. Got to get an Italian Cream soda while you are there. You keep the glass. Beware...large groups from the convention center books this place pretty solid. Call before you go.

This place is about as Italian as the Olive Garden, but let's be honest, who doesn't love some good ol' Americanized Italian food? I, for one, am a BIG fan. My husband and I have been coming here faithfully since we moved to Louisville in 2006. The meals have good portion sizes and the price includes salad, tea, ice cream (spumoni or vanilla) and unlimited bread. You really can't beat that deal--especially for such a great location in downtown Louisville. If you're visiting on a weekend night, you can usually expect a decent wait (15-30 min), but there is a great bar upstairs or plenty of seating downstairs. The building its in used to be a Men's Shoe store and is absolutely gorgeous. My service experiences have been pretty hit or miss, though I've never had an absolutely terrible experience--they just seemed to be a little understaffed at times. As far as food choices go, we're big fans of the manager's favorite which allows you to pick your pasta and 2 sauces--we usually go for the browned butter with mizithera cheese and marinara sauce. The baked chicken and chicken fettuccine alfredo are also great choices. We take our family and friends here all the time when they're in town and they all love it no matter what the dish so you really can't go wrong. If you're looking for a nice, affordable meal in downtown you really can't find a better place.

The Old Spaghetti Factory that I'm used to, in downtown San Jose, CA, is much much much better in terms of both quality of service and food. I've tried giving the one in Louisville a few chances, but every time left disappointed.

AMAZINGLY GOOD FOOD. Try the Crab Ravioli. They are fantastic. Good atmosphere, good service and fantastic food. You can't go wrong at the Old Spaghetti Factory.

It smells old and vintage but it's a fun ambience. We had the lasagna, baked chicken and shrimp cilantro lime butter leaf salad. The portions aren't huge but the dishes were good. The chicken was bone in and tender with a side of spaghetti. The salad was incredibly upscale and tasty. And everyone gets spumone!

Cool environment and has horse drawn carriages that usually stop in front of entrance especially on weekends that adds to the night out for about $10/person. Food options are okay. There's not a lot of diversity on the menu should someone in your party not be a pasta fan. The prices are okay and food is average. The atmosphere and experiance are pretty much what people come for.

Took my family here during the Thanksgiving weekend while staying at the Galt House. Seating came quickly (due to fans of Louisville departing at 7 PM), but we were placed in a darkish table underneath the stairs. Waitress missed my appetizer order and seemed very distracted. Food, considering it was spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, and chicken parms etc., was better than average. Spumoni was delightful.

Staff is friendly enough, but completely predictable, utterly mediocre chain restaurant experience. The one authentic old world Italian touch? Excruciatingly slow service, except in Italy it is because they take the quality of their food seriously, here- not the case. Salad looked like it had sat for hours. Appetizer was Domino's cheesy bread level, and I'm being generous... Main courses- crab ravioli, lasagna, and chicken penne. Ho-hum.

Went here while visiting a comic con and had a great experience. The variety of dishes was terrific and the value of the food was outstanding. You get a drink, a salad, bread, the meal and ice cream dessert all in one price! Gluten free customers have plenty of options, and there was also a whole wheat option, too. The service was solid. And the waiters and hostesses were friendly and accommodating. Great place if you're in the mood for budget Italian.

The last time I tried to eat here there was a 2 hour wait- so coming in at 8pm on a Saturday night and being able to sit right down was nice. The server was friendly and effiicient (I forgot his name but I remember his southern accent). I ended up getting an Italian Cream Soda (which I got to keep the glass!) and started with an order of cheese/garlic bread- that was yum- and funny too since we didn't realize the meal came with bread as well! I decided to live outside the box and I got crab ravioli- and sure enough- it was pretty decent! Nice portion too. All in all it was nice to come back and have a great meal- They had closed the one down in Midtown Atlanta so this was a treat!

I have really enjoyed every visit we have made to the Spaghetti Factory. I require a gluten free menu when i eat out - and it is hard to find restaurants in Louisville that have the menu and are trustworthy with their prep policies regarding GF customers. Spaghetti Factory is always AMAZING. I can order most anything on the menu - and for an extra 75 cents make it Gluten Free. When it comes out there is an adorable litle GF flag in my meal to indicate that it was prepared correctly. I never have to ask questions or double check with management. The staff is just well prepared to handle my needs. Food is great. I love the alfredo, while my fiance loves the lobster ravioli. Staff is always nice - sometimes on busier nights of the week they seem a little understaffed but as long as you arent a wild beast that needs to inhale your food and the run for cover (or get up and smoke 90 times in one meal) ... then its not a problem because you can sit back and enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. We love this place so much ... we came here the night my fiancee proposed to me. We had dinner upstairs at an intimate little table over to the side and then we went outside and hopped in a Cinderella looking horse drawn carriage for a ride through downtown louisville. Half way through the ride he asked me to marry him. I will always have a special place in my heart for the Old Spaghetti Factory.

I was at the Spaghetti Factory the other night for a wedding's rehearsal dinner. There was a space in the back reserved for our large group of about 45 people. Unfortunately it was in the same room as other guests who were eating, so for a while it was quite noisy and there were a few rounds of "Happy Birthday" being sung which was a little distracting. After a while the other families cleared out and it became a more intitmate experience. Our choices were chicken marsala, spaghetti and meatballs, or lasagna. I got the spaghetti (which is my favorite food.) I felt bad that the staff had to serve so many people at the same time with drinks, water, wine, salad, bread, entrees, and desert. Perhaps they could have used a few extra hands to make sure everyone had appropriate silverware, water, and that the bread was brought out before the meal. The bread came with garlic butter which was delicious, I could have taken home a stick or 2. The salad was pretty standard and the balsamic vinegar dressing was flavorful. My spaghetti was ok, not the best I'd ever had but I ate every bite. The meatballs were large, cooked well, and everything was very tasty. The inside of the restaurant has a lot of character with cool architecture, funky lamps and lamp shades, and various eating arrangements from tall tables, booths, and free standing tables. If I lived in the area I would try it again, I'm sure with a smaller party the service would be much more attentive. Overall a yummy choice.

Terrible. I have no idea why this place is so popular. Quite possibly the worst 'Italian' I've ever eaten. Try again OSF. You are consistently missing the mark.

  • Mike G.

The jumbo crab ravioli was fantastic. We also had a shrimp spinach artichoke dip, a chicken pasta and a chicken pene and let me tell you they were delicious. Just when we thought things could not get any better they served spumoni ice cream. In a word.... WOW. Recommend if you are a fan of Italian food.

The portions are gigantic here...given that there's bread, salad/soup to start off with. We also ordered the broccoli with cheese/brown butter and it was heavenly! The ravioli I ordered was just ok. The ice cream at the end was awesome though. I will surely return just to eat some of that scrumptious broccoli again!

Interesting place. Swank interior design with a theme of back in the 30s or 40s...in my opinion. There is a bit a class to this place that most other restaurants lack. Atmosphere is a big plus for this place. I can't say it's the best spaghetti that I've ever had. For a place that specializes in Spaghetti, I found it to be a bit bland. The service is great and the food comes up quickly. Make sure you have plenty of pepper to add some spice and flavor. If you are interested in a decent meal without breaking the bank, then it's worth going to. I've had a pleasant time each time I've been there. They do accommodate large groups quick well, which are the only times I've been there. They do have a full Italian menu to pick from. It's not JUST spaghetti. If you go in knowing that you aren't going to have the best spaghetti, but can justify it because it's rather cheap, then go. Lower your expectations of Italian and you'll be OK.

At first glance the Spaghetti Factory's menu looks dated and boring. However they make up for that by consistently serving delicious food. From the crisp salad with house pesto dressing to the pasta to dessert the food is always right. So, for a classic Italian meal the Spaghetti Factory remains among my favorites.

On a recent stay in Louisville at the Galt House, we met the sister-in-law at the Old Spaghetti Factory for our first meal in the city. After reading some of the reviews, I was very leery of what was to come considering that some folks were so loathsome in their reviews. I found the place to be delightful. The first thing that hits you is the decor. It is in the location of an old bank building and you are immediately whisked away to an era long ago when dark stained woods, majestic staircases, and over-the-top chandeliers ruled the banking world. With a party of 6, we had about a 10 minute wait, but it was worth it to take all of the place in. I found myself staring at the wood tiled ceiling and all of the different chandeliers, and then hoping we would be seated at the big red caboose car (not a real one) in the middle of the restaurant. We didn't get seated there, so I had to hide my disappointment for the children's sake. Once seated, we were quickly taken care of by our waiter. He was very courteous and helpful, even when one of my daughters was being difficult in a way that only 5-year-olds can (she was enacting a temporary hunger strike until she got her way, but the power of fettuccine alfredo soon swayed her). The next thing that struck me was how reasonable the prices were and that they included tea and an ice cream dessert. Me being a true southern gentleman, I drink tea with every meal. Hey, it's who I am, deal with it. They also make all of their sauces in house and even have a house made pesto ranch for their salad, that I thougt was very good. I tried the crab ravioli and really loved the sauce that was on it. The ravioli wasn't drowning in sauce and it was a perfectly balanced dish. The pasta was not freshly made, but, hey I'm not expecting Mario Batali at The Old Spaghetti Factory either. The bread they offer is very good, and I found myself cleaning all the sauce remnants off my plate with it. I don't want to leave too big a mess for the dishwasher to deal with. So, I was being considerate. My wife had the chicken parmesan and loved it. Both girls had a nice bowl of fettuccine alfredo and didn't leave any for the dishwasher either. The sister-in-law had an interesting dish called "Garlic Mizithra", which was a spaghetti with mizithra cheese, garlic, bacon, browned butter and sauteed mushrooms. I stole a bite, and it was even better than my dish. The final surprise was the nice spumoni that was served after the meal. It arrived in a chilled dish and was the perfect ending to the heavier proceedings that occurred beforehand. All in all, a very good meal that fed a family of four with dessert for under $40 dollars. Plus, just seeing the place was an added bonus. The Old Spaghetti Factory is a chain, but this location stands out for no other reason than location alone. Great ambience, good meal, and easy on the wallet. Momma's happy, kids are happy, and mission accomplished. We will be back again the next time we are in Louisville.

One of my favorite places to eat when I visit Louisville. The layout of the building and the decor is a throwback to the 40's -50's and make this restaurant pretty unique. I love the mizithra cheese spaghetti dish. I can't give it five stars because the meat sauce spaghetti is pretty bland.

A group of us decided to eat here simply because 301 Bistro was closed and we were walking. The salads are a joke. A few people kept adding more and pepper trying to add flavor, but to not avail. I only had an olive spread, which was pretty decent, however, the bread that accompanied the spread was not good at all. One person in our party asked for olive oil to give flavor and moisture to the pasta. Someone else enjoyed their pasta. And one other person said the chicken was moist. Overall, I really love the ambiance, old time feel of the place, however, the food has much to be desired. . .and I'm saying that mildly. Skip this place and go to Bucca Di Beppo instead.

Went in late on Sunday night around 7:30,. It was not crowded, service was good. It was not as clean as it should have been, the floor had spilled sauase under the table and the restroom was not clean. The food was ok, but not great. On par with Fazolis.

Overall, our experience was okay. When I read 'baked lasagna' I am expecting a layer of bubbly cheese on top. Not at OSF, it needed more cheese, in my opinion. Pesto ranch salad dressing was a nice change of pace. Server was nice, drinks were good. Food...uh, okay.

Upon entering the establishment, the restaurant's warm and inviting interior decor greets its customers with open arms. The lobby area was a sufficient size to accommodate both small and large groups awaiting their tables. It is obvious by the amount of visitors that this restaurant is popular - and even though 'call ahead seating' is available, the wait was under 45 minutes on a Sunday night. After being seated, our waiter (Aaron) arrived momentarily and did a fantastic job from start to finish. Our appetizers, salads, and entrees were served within minutes of each other. Our meals included Garlic Mizithra, Chicken Parmigiana, Baked Lasagna, and Breast of Chicken Fettuccine. Everything was hot and fresh, portions were substantial, and the food was delicious. Drink refills were timely, and he made sure to check on us periodically to ensure a good experience, despite the busy night the restaurant was having. The four of us (including children and adults) enjoyed our entire meal and were extremely pleased on how everything turned out. Kudos to the staff at Old Spaghetti Factory for a wonderful evening.

McDonald's for Pasta... You know how you can find a McDonald's everywhere? You know that the food isn't really amazing, neither is the service, but you know how the food is prepared, there are no surprises, and its a decent value to what's around. Well, this is The Old Spaghetti Factory. One of these babies are always located in medium downtown city and you know just what you are going to get-college prepared Italian. I was going to start to say, it was like having my made at home Italian brought to me by a server, but even I make better dishes. I had the chicken fettuccine and it was served with CANNED mushrooms and CANNED chicken. I mean, come on, try a little. I have been to this place a couple times and all the dishes that I have tried taste like someone heated up a value lean cuisine. This place is great for downtown tourist who refuse to try local, because I know Bistro 301 ten steps away is going to taste better and I haven't even been there yet! I will not be back, until we get lazy again and want starch. One positive is that with every entree, which is around $12, you get bread, a side salad, and some Spumoni.

If you judge this restaurant by the restrooms, you would never eat here. Both restrooms were filthy, no paper towels, no soap, trash overflowing. How do employees wash their hands? We told an emplyee, but did not get any response. Food was just okay. Service was okay. Will never go back again. we only saw our waiter once and had to wait until we could find her to get refills. Needs better management all around.

Went here with a group of friends for dinner. I've been to a few of these restaurants in CA, and have never been overly impressed with them, but one of the people in our party wanted to go, so we did. We started off with drinks upstairs while we waited for our table. The bartender seemed a little stressed, but he made my drink well. We requested and got seated in the train in the middle of the restaurant. I got the Mizithra Cheese and Browned Butter on whole wheat pasta. It was fine, but nothing amazing. The cheesy bread that we got as an app was yummy, but how can you mess up bread with melted cheese?! Our waitress was Kathy, and she was pleasant and efficient, aside from when she failed to give my friend her receipt, and then we couldn't ever find her again. Just fine. I am sure there are better places to go for Italian food, but will certainly do in a pinch.

Not a fan, I like to get a drink when I first sit down... Not wait 10 minutes got the waitress to come take my order and then another 10 minutes to get the drink and salads. The food was so-so. The pesto dressing was great, I got the garlic shrimp Alfredo... But the waitress didn't remember to put my order in, therefore when everyone else's food came out I had to wait... The shrimp appeared to be boiled and thrown in and then the Alfredo pored over... Not much garlic flavor at all, and they left the tails on so I had to fish out the Alfredo covered shrimp with my fingers and pull the tails off, once that was done I finally took a bite and the pasta was not cooked through. Needless to say, if I lived in Louisville, I would never go back. The only good thing about the place was the decor. Neat building.

I think that the previous reviewer must have had a fluke experience. Don't get me wrong this is not the best Italian food that i ever had but I always find the food and service to be pretty good. What keeps me coming back here is a dish that they have that I have not found anywhere else. It is the spaghetti and mizithra cheese. It is phenomenal! It sounds weird and looks very plain but it is delicious. The rest of the menu is good but this dish is great!!

Spare yourself. The butter browned spaghetti is the only thing on the menu wasting calories on. I could eat at Fazoli's for the same kind of food. If you have kids, this might be something for you. It's entertaining.

I had been to the Old Spaghetti Factory in Nashville, Tn. years ago and loved it. Although this place was beautiful, the food was okay at best. We had the Chicken Marsala and the sauce tasted like a cheap instant brown gravy. The spaghetti noodles that came with it were very good, but didn't make up for the chicken marsala. I guess for the price it was edible, but i'd rather pay a little more for great food. My salad with blue cheese was good, but my wifes salad with ranch dressing tasted like black licorice, which isn't a good thing. The service was very good though. I nice place to visit, but this will be a one and done.

Can't beat the value and experience of a meal at the Old Spaghetti Factory. We've been to locations in Washington, California, Minnesota, and Missouri, so of course we had to try the one in Louisville. We arrived around 1pm on a Saturday for lunch. It is across from the Yum Center, so we'd probably avoid this restaurant and area if there was an event, but there wasn't anything until later that day. The setting and decor was beautiful. It felt like we were in a well-loved old home with antique furniture. We were told there would be a 10-15 minute wait, which seemed fine as there were several other people waiting as well. We were seated within 5-10 minutes. This was suspicious as the area we were seated in had several open tables. We've noticed this process at other locations as well and have wondered if it's an intentional strategy to generate a crowd to bring in more people, build anticipation, or regulate the flow through the restaurant. Anyways, we were not disappointed by our meal. Iced tea was sweet tea, demonstrating the menu flexing for the area. Salads were basic iceberg lettuce, although good-sized for side salads. Bread was fresh, although the butter seemed to be plain rather than infused with garlic like at other locations. Spaghetti with mizithra cheese and browned butter was pleasing and is an item unique to Spaghetti Factory. Pasta with white clam sauce was also warm and hearty. We finished with classic spumoni that was included with the meal, although we noted this location has Derby Pie, another tie-in with this area. This location also seemed to provide larger portions than other locations. A great value for approximately $10 each, which included salad, tea, bread, pasta, and spumoni. Staff was very attentive and quick with refills, and food arrived quickly. Thanks for a pleasant dining experience!

The restaurant decor and location is quite lovely and interesting. It makes one expect a great meal, but it does not deliver. I don't recommend this location. The appetizer was very unappealing-we stopped eating it after a couple of bites and our food was very bland and average. If Olive Garden is considered good American-Italian, then this place is very bad American-Italian.

We have always favored The Old Spaghetti Factory but over our last several visits, its just kinda icky now. Tonight we arrived VERY early as this place gets packed. We were there around 5:30. We came right in and got to sit right down. We waited what seemed like forever before we even saw someone who resembled a waiter or waitress. When we finally see her she says she'll be right back. No bread or anything for maybe 20 minutes when she comes to take drink orders we asked to go ahead and order our meals since we had waited so long. Our drinks came and then our soups and salads probably the longest we have ever had to wait for them and literally I had barely taken a bite out of my salad and they were bringing out our entrees'. I got the jumbo crab ravioli and I have had it before and this time it was rubbery mostly cold. My husband got minestrone soup and chicken parm and he said the soup was lukewarm and his chicken was hot but the pasta and sauce was cold. So was my sons. When we take the kids out, they used to enjoy this because it looked fancy to them and had kid friendly food that included dessert that we didn't have to argue over as its included in all meals, but the price has gone up, the quality down and did I mention they forgot my broccoli and mizithra cheese? They were going to charge us for it and just let me take it home. Told them to take it off the bill. I don't think we will be going back. We used to go every other month or so, but Its just not worth it anymore.

Out of state visitors chose this as an interesting place, they wished they hadn't. Maybe it was a bad night but the dishes were dirty and the spaghetti was a bit rubbery.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
