I'm pretty sure this place is under new management. We were offered some free lentil soup when we walked in. The lentil soup was good, not amazing. However the food was amazing. My husband got the special of the day, Athenian chicken and it was so good. It came with a garlic cream sauce on top and I could eat tubs of it. I had a gyro and it was pretty good. Pretty typical but it was a lot larger then other gyros I have bought. The cook was super friendly and was also our waiter. I would definitely come back, very pleased with service and food.

Louisville is rightly coming into its own as a foodie destination, but one food type that the Derby City has lacked is great Mediterranean/Middle Eastern fare. I'm still on the lookout for this -- on the hunt for that amazing saffron rice, dolmas and gyros -- but The Falafel House definitely shows promise. Like the four stars of this review represent, I'm a fan. Last night I met my boyfriend, his sister and her boyfriend at this spot right at the corner where Baxter Avenue and Bardstown Road split in the Highlands. It was after 9 p.m., and the more restaurants that offer later-night bites, the better. (The Falafel House is open until 11 p.m. on weeknights and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.) I ordered the chicken shawarma -- my Middle Eastern go-to. I got it in the wrap but wish I would have gotten the plate. The rice on my friends' plates looked delicious. The chicken was flavorful. My preference is chicken that is sliced a little thinner, but that might just be me. And I loved the sides. The hummus is served with a spicy relish that gives it a bit of a kick. If I could have licked the plate, I would have. We tried a bit of the lentil soup, I believe it was. This was packed with flavor. On a cold day -- or a day when you're fighting a cold -- this would be so comforting. I snuck a piece of my friend's gyro. Definitely a savory treat that I would order myself. And to end the meal, we had to try the baklava. This was honey, flaky goodness and really some of the best baklava I've ever had. The server was very attentive, checking on us a few times. I was very impressed with The Falafel House and am looking forward to checking out more of their menu, perhaps raising my rating to five stars in the future.

I don't know why every time I go into this place it is empty because it is SO good. I usually get a gyro or chicken shawarma (even their falafel is amazing) but today I got the chicken kabobs and that was delicious too! I got carry out and the chicken was put on enough rice for 2 people, and grilled peppers and squash. The side of hummus and pita bread as well as the salad was also delicious. The people working here are also really nice. Only difference between this trip and the last was that they didn't give me any lentil soup but who knows why, I don't mind. I'll still be back again!

I went in for just a falafel instead i got an amazingly delicious Greek falafel. It had a golden crispy falafel topped with olives, tomatoes and other fixins. This restaurant is under new management and the owner wanted to make sure his customers enjoy the food! Don't expect 5star service but the falafel is worth a visit.

We've dined here 3 times in the last 8 months, and usually just share the big combo plate and some sort of appetizer so we can sample everything. The food always tastes fresh and expertly prepared, the prices are very reasonable and the staff is eager to please. There's nothing fancy about the place -- just solid Greek fare at a reasonable price in a pleasant, informal atmosphere. Great location, too.

Sun streaming through the cafe, we sat down at a diner table next to a window around 730 on a Thursday afternoon. Our plan was to get a quick bite, maybe split a Gyro if their prices were on the heavier side.. Our food. Was. Delicious. The made to order portions were surprisingly filling. And the prices were VERY reasonable. FALAFEL We had the Falafel Appetizer. They were hot and crispy on the outside, and warm and flavorful on the inside. Exactly what you would expect a good falafel to taste like, mediterranean-ness that melts in your mouth. They came served on lettuce, with a thick tzatziki sauce that was pretty decent too! HUMMUS Thinking (due to the price) that the appetizers would be small we also ordered the Hummus, that came with pita bread. Man, that pita bread tasted like it was homemade - can we say 'steaming grill marks?'! And the Hummus was definitely from scratch. The olive oil, and green pepper-like spices that they dropped in the centre gave it just enough of a kick to make it familiar but far from ordinary. LAMB - GYRO OK. Let's talk Gyros. My husband and I have had a love for Gyros for-ever. We both ordered the Lamb/beef Gyros. These are 'man-sized' portions. (I had to take 1/2 of mine home) The first thing you notice is the large hunks of meat, well seasoned. Fresh chopped veggies; tomatoes, cucumber, and stuffed with thinly-sliced lettuce. With more of that tzatziki sauce, all on that fresh pita bread. You may say, you cant mess up a simple Gyro, but I've seen it done.. and this was far from that. Very well balanced in items, and cuts. Next time, I am totally taking photos (as the yelp ones are definitely not current for new management mentioned.) Lovely unexpected, informal date. No pressure, no lines.. ran into a great deal, right at the end of Bardstown Road - where it meets Baxter Ave. We will be back!

The gyro here is delicious. They weren't shady with the lamb I got! Great taste and enough food for the $6 I paid! I don't sample everyone's gyro but this place is the best I've had around!

Gotta love Falafel House! The food is yummy and the prices are low. No matter what dish I get, I always make sure that it comes with hummus. If not, I get it as a side. This hummus is killer!! The chicken shwarma and babaghanoush are also very tasty. Friendly staff as well!

The "under new management" is very important to note! I wouldn't have stepped foot in here a year ago- but now- the owner was a delight and the food was amazing! Very affordable. I will definitely return and be telling all of my friends! Love their tzatziki and shawarma. He also gave me all the extra sauces I desired! Thanks, Mahmoud!

When we discovered that Wick's Wednesday is no longer a thing (Travesty) the boyfriend and I wandered in on our trek of pizza deprived sadness back toward the car. The banner proclaiming "Under New Management" seemed like invitation enough to us, despite our never having experienced the "Old Management" anyway. We're big schwarma fans, and even with my living in the area for 2+ years and he 4, neither of us had ever stopped in. No time like the present. We perused the menu posted in the window and decided to order the falafel and chicken schwarma to split. We ordered such at the counter and sat down. We were surprised by an amuse bouche of lentil soup which was quite tasty. The falafel were perfect, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. My boyfriend remarked that they were the closest to those of Israel he's ever seen. The schwarma was great. everything seemed fresh and for $5.99 you aren't getting any complaints here. Specifically, the tahini was delicious. It wasn't quite the same as the schwarma that I had when I was in the Middle East but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Now, on to the baklava. At checkout we were informed that it was home made on premises, so of course we had to. We took that to go and it made it the entire three quarter mile journey and no farther. We had to test it out immediately, you know, just to make sure it wasn't going to run away before we could get to it. It was phenomenal. All this and the fond memories of writing a 5 star yelp review for only $13.75! We are genuinely delighted to have found a new best-kept-secret on that block.

One of my girlfriends and I came here one day after a full day of walking bardstown road. The staff was friendly and the food was pretty tasty. We ordered and sat outside. He brought us our food and made sure we had everything we needed. It's a nice spot to go to for a quick lunch.

This place is under new ownership. How can a different owner work such magic with the same middle eastern standard offerings? It not fancy here but the food is worth the trip.

Falafel were made to order and cooked just like in Israel. Crispy outside. Moist and flavorful in the middle. Gyro was great too... Warm pita. Tender with a crust... I don't know the place was really good. Glad we ignored yelp this time.

My wife and I had gone to this restaurant a couple of times before it was put under new management. We enjoyed it and wanted to make plans to come back. But now that they are under new management, oh boy. We absolutely love it. The food is just amazing. When you sit down, you are served a cup of delicious, homemade lentil soup. Their hummus and pita are top notch. Moreover, we find that their falafel, shawarma, and gyros are all wonderful. Generous portions. Great prices. Finally, you can savor your stay with a cup of sage tea. Not a fancy place, but what it lacks in pomp it makes up for in friendly service and wonderful Mediterranean food.

I love a good falafel sandwich, but I should have checked Yelp before eating at this place. I ordered the Atomic Falafel Sandwich, which, along with the usual accompaniments, came with jalapeños and chili paste. The falafel was made to order and pretty tasty. Unfortunately, the pita bread it was served on was so stale it was hard, and was stone cold. I won't be back.

Wow, after reading the other Yelp reviews, I must have eaten here on an "off" day. And by "off" day, I mean really good. First, our waitress, I'll call her "hippie chick" was a really good server. Greeted us promptly, refilled our drinks, got our order right, delivered everything to our table correctly. Next, the food was amazing! We started with a wonderfully prepared babaganoush appetizer plate. It was tasty, plated well, and served with warm pita bread. Then, we each had the falafel plate. It included 6 perfectly prepared falafel balls, Mediterranean salad, more warm pita bread and tzaztiki sauce. It was delivered to our table, warm, perfectly prepared and enough left over for lunch the next day. Finally, we eyed other people ordering hummus and it looked to good to pass up. The server brought our order, with more warm pita, to our table almost as quickly as we requested it. Again, it was great, but also left plenty for lunch the next day. Saturday lunch for 2 for $20, nicely prepared food and really good service, and the smell of the lone person at the next table smoking orange hookah all by herself! A really nice meal in a really cool setting.

The food was alright. The meat was a bit too tough. The seasoning was okay. The portion and price was good. It was nice and quiet, but nothing memorable enough to make me return, unless I happen to be in the area. For their prices, the options were decent.

I had heard rumors that this place wasn't that great, but there must have been some changes, as the place was fantastic! Clean, great service, very affordable. Best babaganoush I've ever had, nice and smoky with great flavor. I had their regular falafel wrap with hot chili paste added in, and it was delicious. Moist and flavorful falafel, and just right on the crispy outside. Very fresh ingredients. Haven't had falafel that good since I visited Chicago in the Spring. My boyfriend had the Atomic Falafel, and loved it. Absolutely coming back.

This place is in a great spot, but that's about the only thing it has going for it. The service is terribly slow, even though they're friendly about how long they take. The tables weren't bused and there wasn't a set up for guests to bus them. They only cleared tables when someone new came in. It was a catastrophe. I can't imagine that anyone who was there the night we were would ever return. I know we won't. We ordered a variety of dishes - pickles and olives, stuffed grape leaves, falafel wraps and a mediterranean salad. All were sub-par. Luckily, it was inexpensive, so I wasn't very upset about it. If you're looking for truly fantastic Mediterranean fare, head to Safier on Fourth Street.

Had high hopes for this place. It's usually those dingy places that either have superb food or nasty food. This place fell in between but closer to the "meh" line. The shawarma I got was over cooked. It was like eating a shoe sole (yes, I eat shoe soles on my off time. Don't judge me!) Maybe it was a one off since I only went once. I'll probably try again if I get real hungry .. Like real hungry

The stars it gets are for location and genre of cuisine. Unfortunately the food just never tastes that fresh and the tastiness factor rests at mediocre. As a side note, the bathrooms smell weird and the place doesn't scream cleanliness.

It was fine for lunch. Our server was fast and friendly. The food was good. I have had better- but I would go back. My gyro was good, and the fries were super duper hot. What more can a food junkie ask for?

The staff was friendly, however the food was quite disappointing. I ordered the atomic falafel and a greek salad. First the salad was mere gyro fillings with a couple of olives and a pinch of feta included. It was more like eating a vegan qyro than a greek salad. Anyhow I moved forward to the Atomic Falafel with anticipation only to be completely let down....tthe pita bread was straight from the package and not warmed. The sandwich was so cold I took it home and put it in the oven for a few minutes, which in turn made the items meant to be cold warm and the falafel sandwich trash material....considering I waited 20minites and spent $12 for these simple items, I would have expected they would be made correctly. I will not be returning.

I want to rate higher... I really do. But I am not. But the service sucks ass. Major attitude from the staff girl. Also, who closes at 7pm on a frikin Tuesday on a busy street?!?! There is so much potential at this place. The food is actually pretty good (when I got serviced and wasn't turned around because the placed is closed). I had a classic Gyro and it was proper! Meat was tender, bread was nice and warmly toasted. Nice balance of texture and spices. It was one of a tastier meal I had on my trip to Kentucky and it wasn't even BBQ!!! But I really want to rate it higher. I really do. Again, who closes at 7pm on a Tuesday!?!?!?! I just don't get it.

I've read reviews by people suggesting the quality of food fluctuates between great to mediocre. I've only eaten here once and the 3 items we ordered were all delicious and affordable - great falafel, delicious hummus, decent chicken shawarma and good lamb/beef gyro sandwich. So far so good...I will go back here and give it another try. The service was pretty good too...

We went here for dinner. I was quite unimpressed. It was cheap. I had better falafel at Shiraz by tenfold. The three of us ordered a falafel sandwich and an order of fries each. I do give them a plus for having Hunts katsup which I haven't seen in years. The fries were good but seemed to be cheap frozen fries. The falafel was mediocre. However it was only about $5 a person so what can you expect. I wouldn't suggest going here .... look elsewhere for better falafel.

If you want to smoke a nice hookah and eat flaffel this is the place to go. The joint is average size and they serve super cheap falafel and gyros. A great place to hang and smoke a hookah! =)

This place used to be pretty good for getting tasty falafel, filo based treats, and good drinks. But, from what I've heard, things have gone downhill. So, if you want super cheap hummus, check it out, but don't expect the best food in town.

I wanted to love this place since I LOVE Mediterranean fare. The Falafel was just ok, but it was not great (edible.) The hummus and babaganouch were great. The waitress had about as much personality as a wet blanket, and she spoke so softly you could barely hear her. She was pleasant enough, though, and got our food out quickly. About 10 minutes after we ate, my stomach hurt and I had heartburn, so I had to get some pepto from the Walgreen's across the street.

Sometimes the food is good but most of the time it's below average. They always have middle eastern music videos playing on the tvs, which I personally find interesting. Employees seem slightly bummed out, but in my experience I've never had bad service or a rude server. If you just want some hummus and to watch people walk by on Bardstown Road, this is a good choice. Just as a side note, they used to sell beer, but don't anymore.

I was so excited to hit upon this place the first two times I went there I even for the first time used the "check in" function on my phone to tell people all about the great food and service I had. The Chicken Shwarma plate was seasoned just right (no heartburn) and the presentation and service really nice. They have this Atomic Gyro Sandwich that is almost hot enough for my husband that puts hot sauce on everything. It became a regular stop on my family's walk from Old Louisville to Bardstown and we grew to look forward to going there. Since we have a small child that would throw crackers on the floor (which we always cleaned up) we tipped a little extra AND cleaned up after ourselves! We are from San Francisco Bay Area where kids are not as common (or welcome) so we are trained pretty well when bringing baby out to not leave a mess.We also came during the quiet time of the day when we were often the only guests , except perhaps a to-go order, or perhaps a table outside smoking a hookah. It was sad that what happened did, but it is worth nothing for customer service makes all the difference no matter how yummy your food is. My husband is a busy Beer Brewer and we only get one day together in which to do something fun, unbeknown to me when we walked up to the door 2 weeks ago, the cook and waitress rolled their eyes when they saw us walk in. Ok , I've worked retail and managed retail and restaurants before moving out here. I know all about pain in the ass customers, high maintence customers and the like. Get a job where you don't deal directly with the customers if you can't stand people. But regular customers that come every week and clean up after themselves and leave a huge tip? That ruined it for me, luckily my husband waited till after to tell me so it didn't ruin my last meal there while I was eating it. Like a reviewer said before me "Customer Service is everything" We will not be back.

I'm not in love with Falafel House, but proximity to my house keeps me coming back. I've eaten here about half a dozen times or so and it only took me two visits to realize that the Chicken Shwarma and I were never going to get along. I felt sick to my stomach immediately upon ingesting both times that I've ordered it. Not fun. Food quality is less of an issue when you take meat out of the picture, so I now solely order the vegetarian platter.

I picked up a gyro the other day and was so disappointed. The pita was stale and the meat was dry making the sandwich hard to even chew. My boyfriend had it a few weeks ago and said it was good and fresh so I'm not sure if I want to give it another try or not... Maybe I should ask if they have fresh bread and meat before I order but that seems silly so I probably won't ever be going back. Very disappointed because it is so close to me and I love a good gyro.

I love this little place due to price and decent food. The falafel is good, better then most in Louisville; but the best thing is their Lentil Soup! Also, unlike the packed, terrible food and service that Cafe 360 offers, The Falafel House offers Hookahs with varied flavors. Their food is not gourmet, but it is cheap and healthier than fast food!

There have been at least a couple other restaurants at this location serving similar food. With each reincarnation they get better. This isn't the best place for Middle Eastern food, but it's still good. Especially since it's ridiculous cheap. Their namesake isn't the best thing on the menu though. It would be more fitting to call them the hummus house. It's really creamy and delicious, definitely the best thing on the menu. The grape leaves are pretty good too, probably not made in house though. As far as their meat dishes go my husband likes the lamb gyro. Steer clear of the baba ghanoush. It was stringy and tasteless.

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

Under new management good and service excellent. Ordered the kufta kabob and the falafel, both were 5stars

Best Gyro in town! My wife had the Kabobs which she adored. Ask for the secret recipe salad. Great service, as well! We had been there before, but it keeps getting better!

(4)Suzanne S.
I liked the falafel and and they have all the expected sides and salads. Lentil soup is great. My kids and I love going here for lunch. The staff is very friendly and the food is really good.
(4)Jessica D.
This place used to be pretty good for getting tasty falafel, filo based treats, and good drinks. But, from what I've heard, things have gone downhill. So, if you want super cheap hummus, check it out, but don't expect the best food in town.
(3)Kristen M.

The waitress here is not good! Food was food, however I found a hair in my food. The waitress just said "okay" and we got charged full price for our meal. Customer service is everything. I will not be back!
