Great food, large portions, and cheap drinks. It is small place that's many have driven by without a second look. You're all missing out! I have ordered many items on the menu and it has all been awesome. Tonight I had the Pollo Asado from the Platillo section. Lots of chicken, onions, cactus, beans, and rice. It's definitely worth a try! !

Come to this brand spanking new restaurant for authentic Mexican dishes at a great price. The menu covers all the essentials: tacos, burritos, enchiladas, sandwiches, fajitas, quesadillas, authentic entrees, sides and desserts. Nothing is over $13.99. The place is small, clean and the service friendly. I love the fish and shrimp tacos (comes with white onions and cilantro). They are not on the menu but they gladly made it when I asked during Lent. Make sure to try the jalapeno curtidos, the free tangy, sweet sweet & spicy carrots, jalapenos, and cauliflower really add to the dish and kick start my taste buds. Don't forget the rich flan for dessert!

Okay I just gave them 4 stars. I loved this place when it was Senior Taco and I love it just as much now under the new ownership. It would be 5 if they fix a couple of simple things. First off the main point, this is the kind of Mexican food you'd expect to find in boarder towns along our south western states. I grew up in So. California and Nevada and have traveled a lot in the South West. So I have certain expectations about the kinds of Mexican food I like or want. I can enjoy the occasional fast food Mexican which is rarely like any real Mexican food, or the big chains or even the fusion Mexican. But what I really want is authentic Mexican that you only get when 3 or 4 generations of family work the restaurant. This is that kind of place, you can expect to catch at various times Grandparents, parents, grand kids and extended relatives working here and serving you. They take real and personal pride in the quality and your satisfaction. This is simply really good well made food that the family prepared just for you and it shows in the authentic taste and the real intent of pleasing you that makes you feel at home right away. We have ordered soups, breakfast burritos, roadside tacos and regular burritos so far and it's all been authentic and satisfying, oh and generous portions. Today I had a Carne Asada (steak) burrito which I smothered in the green salsa. My wife and I had already polished off the chips and salsa and practically licked the bowl. The chips are basic and nothing special but the salsa is home made, the red and green hot sauces are more flavorful than simply hot. My burrito had streak, cilantro, Mexican cheese, rice and salsa in a steamed flour tortilla. It came with a simple salad which I mixed into my burrito. My wife wanted a breakfast burrito and they will make it however you ask. My wife has a thing for Horchata (the drink) many places make it with a powdered mix you can pick up at any taqueria. She knows when it's fresh or not and wants the real thing which is exactly how it is made here. The restaurant recently obtained it's liquor license and will be installing a bar soon. So here are a few things I wish they would improve. The chairs are not very comfortable and encourage you to eat quickly and get out. maybe that was the plan but it makes me not want to stay too long. The negative with family run and owned businesses is each family member does things a little differently. They need to practice just a little to ensure they generally do the same thing all and don't forget little things like bringing out drinks right away. Sometimes they do sometimes they do not. Once time the put marinated carrots and onions on the table which is typical in the South West. Another time they did not. And the last soda I had was totally flat, you can see that when you put the glass under the fountain so don't bother serving it if it's not ready. Last family owned places often have family hanging around. This makes it more fun and interesting. but the friends need to be reminded that your business is a place of business. That they can get too casual or comfortable about they way the interact with your customers. For example there was a couple there who clearly were friends with the owners who talked on they're cell phone with the speaker phone on the entire time we were there. There is a fine line between the casual comfortable atmosphere of a family run business and one that has family hanging out and perhaps disrespecting your other customers because they think they are somehow more important or can ignore poor manors but this is one sure way to drive away other customers. These are little things that can be fixed, but don't detract from the great food and caring service. Just coach your family and friends to be considerate of your other guests when they are hanging out for extended periods in your seating areas. Now for those reading still (whew whats wrong with you don't you have better things to do?) Try the tacos and beef soup you will not regret it.

I have watched several restaurants come and go in this location over the past 10 years, this one probably has the best chance to be here this time next year. After trying a little of everything on the menu, I see why they get 4 instead of 5 stars. While I enjoyed the food and the more authentic menu, the flavors I was looking for were not there. Chips and salsa to start was good, but not the best I've had. Maybe kick it up a notch with some heat and not as runny. Guacamole was almost like I make at home, minus some lime, cilantro and a touch more salt. Carnitas is my favorite, if done well just give me a fork and just carnitas and I'm happy. Carnitas here was ok but it didn't grab my attention like I was hoping. Tacos were some of the best in town, both in price and portion. Seriously, places like this put more well known places on Bardstown and downtown to shame when it comes to tacos. Gordita was really good although very simple. I am not a fan of corn tortillas for my tacos or anything else, but I actually liked the corn tortillas here. Cubano torta was amazing to look at but fell a bit short of expectations. I would say skip the Cubano but definitely try the tortas. The corn was very good as well, it had a slightly different flavor than I have had anywhere else but it worked. To finish off the meal we had to settle for sopapilla as they ran out of tres leches. As full as were, we destroyed the dish that was just right to finish off the meal. Light and crisp, sweet, and topped with whipped cream....what time do they close..? Overall they picked a poor location which may hinder their success. You put this place in the highlands or st matthews and its a huge hit. They have to compete with a food truck that has a big following, but being a fan of both I would probably come here if I had to pick. Wider selection, better pricing, and I feel the quality of the food was better too. They have great drink specials posted that are all day everyday I believe, I just wish it was a better atmosphere. The chef knows what they are doing, they know the food and how it should be prepared. Probably need some tweaking on flavors to put it over the top. I will be back for sure and I am looking forward to them being here or in a better location for long time.

Everyone is so friendly! It's a VERY TINY place but don't let it stop you! The food is so fresh and authentic! The salsa is for sure the best around and it's very consistent! Be sure to come check it out!

I had been eagerly awaiting the opening of this restaurant since the moment I saw the "Coming Soon" sign. There had previously been another Mexican restaurant at this same location that unfortunately didn't last long. In the areas that that business failed, this new restaurant appears to have worked on getting things done right. As soon as I walked in I noticed the construction done to remove a huge deli-like bar/counter area. This allowed this location to become much more open and feel much bigger than it really is. The décor of this place is simple ( and can probably use a bit more) but they're on the right track. It's much more authentic looking décor than you normally see at most Mexican restaurants in town. I usually judge the authenticity of a Mexican restaurant on it carrying the delicious "Horchata"- a cinnamon rice milk drink. And this place carries it and it's delicious. This restaurant has a very simple menu and I like that. I still have my choice of grabbing something that can be eaten on the go or a platter meal. No need for those fancy names you see in some of those other Mexican restaurant menus for meals that aren't really that different from each other. My experience at this place was a carryout order but I plan on going back and actually sitting down in the restaurant. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a gentleman and his teenage son. Through my conversation with them they told me that they had just opened a couple days earlier. During my wait on my order, I took pictures of the place that I'm adding to Yelp. Also during my wait a man came out of the kitchen a few times to ask questions such as red sauce cooked with it or green sauce? Do you want it with these toppings or want it differently? Though I understood that they had just opened, this made me remove a star because I felt that it showed unreadiness. Plus they could've asked these questions when I ordered and gotten my food prepared faster. I took the food home and was happy. One item of my order was a burrito and the other was Chilaquiles. The Chilaquiles were really good and though the burrito was good, I felt I had better at the other Mexican restaurant across the street. But I'm definitely a fan and am looking forward to trying something else on the menu and eating in the restaurant. One of the issues with this location is the tiny parking lot and I think it deters traffic to this place. I would think that fitting even a dozen cars in this lot would be difficult though the restaurant has enough seating inside to hold anyone in those dozen cars. This is really unfortunate....hoping they can find a way to squeeze some more lot from their neighbors.

I definitely recommend the cabeza and the pastor. Everything that I had was delicious and authentic. They don't have a lot of frills, but they have delicious chips and salsa and affordable tacos that hit the spot.

If you're looking for authentic Mexican flavor in Louisville then look no further. Taqueria Ramirez has all of the menu items necessary to fufill your craving for a true south of the border culinary experience. Sopas, Tortas, Chorizo breakfast burritos and of course, my favorite, Tacos! We started with some guacamole to eat with our chips and let me tell you the last time I had guacamole that tasted this fresh I was sitting on a beach in Playa del Carmen watching them make it in front of me. On this first trip of many to come I sampled the tacos carne asada and the tacos al pastor (marinated beef and pork). The meat serving per taco was quite plentiful and the meat was both tender and lean with a delicious flavor. NO FATTY chunks like I've experienced at other locations around town. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The dining room was basic, but very clean and makes good use of the space. This is not your typical franchise tex mex experience, but rather a TRUE mexican meal with all of the flavors you've come to love from that culture. We will be back!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
