Louisville's got it's fair share of killer coffee spots, and I'm making a point to eventually spend some time in most of them. But, this place is my go-to. The coffee is excellent. The staff are friendly. The decor and atmosphere are inviting, if a little quirky thanks to its hodgepodge furniture. Know that if you see several people on laptops and want to do anything on wi-fi, their bandwidth can get a little crowded. But that's a minor concern to me, given how much this place excels at being a great coffee house. Definitely check it out if you're in or around Beechmont.

This is my first visit here. I normally stop in for a delicious treat near my brother Brad's house over near Eastern Pkwy. I really enjoyed the location and the banter with the Barristas. It's the best coffee in town that I have found. This location is in a very fun location and right across from Beechmont Bombshells where they do an awesome job with haircuts and colors. If you are looking for coffee drinks a notch above the rest in town then this is your place! I first met the owners of Sunergos over in New Albany when they helped with the Rainbow Blossom setup. The two guys I met couldn't have been nicer. At that time in my life I didn't even drink coffee, now I just adore a nicely roasted bean! I believe you will fall in love with the coffee here. I love caramel, but I ask for it with less pumps as it can be too sweet and hide the amazing coffee flavor.

Well, aside from some of the Sojourn church crowd that works there and that's taken over the place and trying to take over the neighborhood, not bad. It's not as good as Highland Coffee because Highland is above all others in the city but it's second best. Sunergos recognizes local art. I only have time to purchase my drink because I'm always on the go and usually in a hurry when I swing by. I'll bring my MacBook and LSAT materials in for a study sesh soon. Sunergos is in my neck of the woods and is on my way out before I jump on the expressway to head to my destinations. It's easy access to the Expressway and I'm especially happy that they've paved their back parking lot.

I came here yesterday for a business meeting but got stood up. Rather than leave, I grabbed a table since I had some paperwork with me. I'm so glad I did! I enjoyed a delicious caramel latte and time to myself to get stuff down. The atmosphere was friendly, warm and relaxed. It made me wish this was closer to my office! I would definitely come back!

Support your local small businesses! Sunergos won America's Best Espresso for a reason! The flavors of their coffee roasts are unique and delicious. Blend B and Guatemala Antigua are my favorites so far. Beyond the coffee quality, the atmosphere is wonderful. If we had more places like this in Beechmont we could give neighborhoods like the Highlands and St Matthews a run for their money!

Let me start by saying something absurd when reviewing a coffee house, I don't like coffee. Never have. I did, however, really, REALLY enjoy the iced mocha that I got at Sunergos. Loved it. I want one right now. On a cold, rainy, Saturday morning with the marathon taking place down the street, the fairly large room was pretty empty. Only a handful of people were enjoying drinks and chatting. The music was good and at a reasonable level (some of the other reviews have noted the high volume, but I didn't experience that). It was warm, both temperature and welcoming as well as funky with an eclectic mix of furniture and lighting from across the decades. The art isn't much to ponder, but whatever. Everything was clean and really well-kept. The menu is straightforward and you don't have to ask for things in Italian. The baristas were extremely friendly and smiled pretty much the whole 30 minutes I was there. I wasn't staring them down or anything, but when I would glance up from my reading, there were happy teeth! If I did like coffee, I would love Sunergos. Even though I don't like coffee, I still really like Sunergos.

I roast my own coffee, and this place knows what they are doing. Hat's off to Sunergos. Excellent coffee. Fresh, roasted right there at the location and great staff. Brought two co-workers that like Starbucks... They both asked if we can go there in the morning before going to the client, and even maybe stopping again on the way home. That speaks volumes. LOVE LOVE LOVE Sunergos.

It makes me chuckle a bit looking back on it, but some of my high school senior pictures were taken at this Sunergos. I chose the place, though, because the Woodlawn location was my go-to study/hangout coffee shop as I went to high school in the south end. "My" drink is an iced vanilla latte made with almond milk. I've sipped on many a vanilla lattes and Sunergos's remains supreme. I also recommend their Café Miele (a latte blended with cinnamon and honey.) If you aren't a fan of coffee, Sunergos offers smoothies, teas, hot chocolate etc, My favorite tea (from the extensive list) is the blueberry rooibos. My younger sister always gets a strawberry smoothie and they are delicious-- made with ice cream I believe. Speaking of ice cream, don't even get me started on the mocha shake... Just try it. With shops like this in town, it is beyond me why anyone in Louisville would choose to frequent chains like Starbucks. If you want great, honest coffee/tea, go to Sunergos. Oh, and they have wifi and plenty of outlets :p
(5)Beth P.
I've been frequenting Sunergos since I was in high school. I guess you could say Sunergos was my first love in my long standing obsession with coffee and cafes... I thought it was amazing then and my opinion hasn't changed one bit. The staff is always friendly. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing. You can watch coffee being ground through a window in the cafe. I would spend everyday drinking coffee here if I possibly could.

One of my favorite places to stop for a tasty cup of coffee. Last time I was here I got a ham and cheese scone (amazing) and a cup of Panama chicuri Carmen Estate (very tasty). It is a great place to go if you just want a basic cup of black americano, or is you want to feel adventurous with some of their specialty blends. The staff is always helpful and friendly. You can also buy bags of their coffee (which they will grind for you) as well as coffee making accessories and their won swag. The decor makes you feel like you are just hanging out in someone's kitchen, which is very relaxing with the indy music playing (though the tables can seem cramped sometimes). While at first glance Sungeros has the impression of another "hipster coffee bar", they have quickly become a favorite of the local community. This place ain't Starbuck's, and I'm glad for it.

Needed wi fi and coffee in an unfamiliar neighborhood - Yelp came through with this little jewel. When the barista says, "I'm glad you found us," I'm glad too. Yummy coffee drinks, scones, and a good soundtrack made my morning.

This is easily the best coffee shop in Louisville. Period. The baristas are knowledgeable without an air of pretentiousness that often comes with a mocha these days. And the atmosphere -- a large room full of comfy vintage chairs, couches and school desks -- is cozy and great for settling in with a cup of joe and a laptop. The coffee, however, is the star of the show. It's just plain good. And my fiancé and I agree that the best white mocha in town is made behind the counter at Sunergos. Plus, there is a variety of whole beans for sale if you can't always make it out to the shop. Just remember -- there's a $5 minimum to use a credit or debit card in the shop.
(5)Angie T.
A recent trip lead me to my usual caramel latte that was every bit enjoyable and did not disappoint. However, when contemplating a second cup a friend encouraged me to try Sunergos' hot chocolate. Hot chocolate? Isn't that for kids? OH MY COCOA BEAN!!! This has got to be the absolute best brew of hot chocolate in the city! (And I will happily accept the challenge from others to contest this). Warm, rich, chocolatey goodness and then topped with freshly made in-house whipped cream...just stop! But you can't stop...it's just too good!!! This is not your Swiss miss cocoa. This is an artisan made cup of hot chocolate served at the perfect temperature enabling you to sip immediately to avoid any spillage of the preciousness over the edge of the cup. And no one will judge you as you walk away with your whipped cream mustache. Kids, right?!

My favorite coffee shop in town. It's local. It's happy. It's great. The people are great and so are the drinks. The baristas are always friendly. I've yet to meet one who turned her/his nose down on me for stumbling through my order (every single time). The ambiance is always perfect. New arts get rotated on the wall. Someone's pandora list is always playing. I love the furniture, eclectic combination of retro pieces. And of course, most importantly the coffee is great. Disclaimer: I'm not a coffee aficionado. That said, I have learned to enjoy a good cup of black coffee and Sunergos, so far is where I have had my best cups of black coffee. The hazelnut latte and any other fancy drinks are great as well, complete with latte art. These folks take their coffee seriously. There have been contests and movie about coffee! For me, it's the perfect spot for a quiet study session. The music isn't obnoxious. The temperature is never frigid like Starbucks (This is important if you're going to be somewhere for a few hours). I also love that it is in the South end where we aren't blessed with a plethora of coffee shops like the Highland.

My first taste of Sunergo's actually came in E-Town; my second was in Nashville, as a small establishment called Coffee/Lunch uses it. I then made it to the espresso place downtown, and that's pretty good, but since the beans were still hauled in fro another part of town, it still didn't seem quite right. So finally made it to the Sunergo's in Beechmont. And it has a strong feeling of personal care on the part of the person behind the counter. Sunergo's coffee had always had a sense of quality beverages, but until I went to a real version, where people hung out, it just wouldn't be the same. And This Sunergo's passes the test with flying colors. Of course, the coffee is good, but screwing it up after I've had its various iterations would be a serious indictment of the staff. The store was clean, felt very comfortable, displayed a strong dedication to the art of coffee, with a huge roaster in the back behind a huge pane of glass. I admit, the idea of being able to see the roasting (if it going on, feels like a huge bonus. The young lady behind the counter did a great job also. She was friendly, courteous, was attentive to her coffee-making duties, and represented the company very well. Sunergo's is a company every coffee lover should experience while they're in Louisville. I've never had a bad experience, they really seem to care about making good coffee.

Yeah the Coffee is amazing, I'll admit it. I still don't like paying over $2 for it. They are on my favorite block of South Louisville, such a quaint street given the area. I mean the place is nice. It's new and it adds to the neighborhood. The people there can definitely be weirdos, and *UNSUBSTANTIATED RUMOR*- I have heard there is a religious cult affiliation I don't care, I will be back. The coffee is damn good. Really stimulates the palate, mind, body, and spirit. Unless they start serving a Waco Kool-Aid blend, I'll keep coming back.
(4)Kara P.
Great white mocha latte! Relaxing environment. I'd love to see more snack options (sweet and salty).
(4)Nick S.
Great coffee. Mediocre layout for a coffee shop: too few tables, chairs, and plugs.
(4)William B.
Best coffee in Louisville. Period.

I have now been to both Louisville Sunergos, and all within 48 hours. I may just yet turn into a coffee snob. No simple "cup o' joe" here, it's all the frou-frou stuff. Definitely not a bad thing, not a bad thing at all. Sunergos "2" let's call it, carries a similar vibe as the one on Preston, and a similar layout too, but bigger I think. The paint job is newer but inviting, the furniture a little cleaner and less wobbly (no matchbooks or rental guides needed,) but all in all, a comfortable, spacious spot to relax, prop open the computer or read a book, maybe enjoy a game of chess or simply strike up a nice conversation. And the coffee's great too! Oh, and they accept Mastercard and Visa. I wonder how well it will do with this location on Woodlawn, just off Southern Pkwy, because right now it has to be a destination spot as there isn't much else to draw customers this way, even though Southern Pkwy always has some walkers with its tree-lined streets leading to Iroquois Park. It looks to be getting some foot traffic and that's a good thing, with the hidden but somewhat popular Annie's Cafe nearby, but there really is not much else around but some empty storefronts and a couple other odds and ends. Louisville's southend needs places like this (actually another good coffee shop is not far with Sister Beans across from Iroquois) but time can only tell. Makes me wish I had the dough to drop on urban renewal. Always wanted to be a philanthropist.

Even if I'm all the way out in the South end, which for some reason has happened quite a few times lately, I can still get a great cup of coffee and a savory scone. The baristas I've chatted with have always been exceedingly knowledgeable and helpful. And even...well, I don't want to take away their barista credibility, but dare I say friendly? It's true, the folks I've encountered have all been really nice. Their recs are on point too - whether it's a bag of coffee beans you're looking for or the perfect spot of tea to match your mood. Ever wondered what the nicest thing is that a cashier at an establishment with a credit card minimum could ever do? Go to Sunergos and you'll see. What else stands out about Sunergos? The music. Quality stuff, but it's loud. Very loud. As the owner put it, "it should feel like a party is just about to get started in here." Side note: even if you are standing right next to this location and you type in Sunergos in either the Google maps app or the iPhone maps app, the GPS will not automatically direct you to 306 W Woodlawn Ave. It will take you to Preston location. This was very frustrating my first few visits here, but this Sunergos now has the prestigious pleasure of being the only other address I have memorized besides my apartment. But don't go to those pains yourself, just check out the directions on the Yelp App.

Love the coffee, Love the atmosphere, !Love the staff, Love the artisanship

A great coffee shop with tables and chairs scattered everywhere for you to sit and relax. The lighting is comfortable and mellow, the mass of table's chairs and couches make it a graph place to gather and have a conversation. The baristas behind the bar know there stuff and fix excellent drinks, weather you're in the mood for a fresh espresso or want to see them show off with their latte art they never disappoint. They are really friendly and nice too, weather your a regular or come in once and a while it makes no difference, they are great to every one. If I'm in the area I seem to make it a point to stop by and relax sipping coffee for an hour or two. It's just a great place to unwind or meet up with friends.

I go into this place almost every day since I moved back to the South End last year and like Quills, this place is a combination of amazing and infuriating, but my problems with it are mostly based upon my own personal peeves. I'll first discuss the reason for the existence of this place, which is to provide ME -Sean Garrison- with foo-foo, gay-ass coffee drinks and in this respect this place is a 100% home run. They simply cannot provide a beverage that is not great. The products they provide are absolutely stellar in every way. For this reason alone I enter this establishment, because when it comes to ME -Sean Garrison- only the best will do. Sorry, but I am just awesome like that. Now on to the things that bother ME -Sean Garrison- about this place. To be perfectly frank, the atmosphere gives me the creeps because this establishment is one of several coffee shops in this town that are closely affiliated with the new "hipster church" movement, and this whole goddamn movement makes me want to pull down my pants and pee on the nearest tattooed grandmother. Don't get me wrong- nobody preaches in this place, and not everyone sitting around is part of a prayer group, but prayer groups DO come here, and people sit around in pairs holding bibles and tell each other the most profound bullshit you could possibly overhear. This, of course, is none of my goddamn business, but I can't help but hate on these people because when it comes to ME -Sean Garrison- I am just not awesome like that. See you in hell, assfaces. The music they play is LOUD and SUPER LAME. The art on the walls is often unspeakably bad. If you have an animated conversation in this place they will actually tell you to be quiet because coffee shops are where everyone now comes to either talk about Jesus, read quietly or to listen to bands like Mumford and Sons over the shop speakers and pet imaginary cats. Woo-hoo. But the coffee is GREAT!
(5)Stephanie D.
Always looking to support local, this is a triple-win. Not only is it a Louisville-based business, it is truly globally-philanthropic AND has the best coffee in the area, hands-down.
(5)James L.
Great coffee, good music, clean, great vibes and coffee roasted onsite. This is what I hope to find in a coffee shop. Whoever owns this place should be applauded! I hope to be back!!!
(5)Carolyn W.
The Preston location of this company has been around the longest but I think Woodlawn deserves first place for Sunergos quality and atmosphere (and there is an actual parking area!). The eclectic decor grows on you and the lighting is comfortable. Lots of space for different groupings and needs (conversation or studying). Yep, you also get the view of their micro-roaster. Each drink is made to order and served by experienced staff who will take the time to explain the differences in their coffees and beans (very important!). The drinks are not sugary sweet because the coffee is not bitter. No need to mask the subtle and bold flavors of the coffee. I appreciate this company's commitment to building relationships with coffee farmers. It has consistently been a positive experience to come to this shop.

I'm not much of a fan of the "coffeehouse" concept, as opposed to an espresso bar, or cafe. Unfortunately, at two of three Sunergos locations, I usually feel like the tables are dirty and the chairs are very uncomfortable. One can find more comfortable coffee establishments, with better furnishings and overall aesthetic sensibilities, but not the coffee quality. Given the town, I'll take the coffee over the decor/furnishings. As for "religious reputation" posted in some reviews, I definitely get that vibe, not just here, but at several Louisville coffee businesses. One can analyze demographics of a town just by listening to the conversations in coffee shops. So Sunergos could have subtitles on the sign, "Seminary Coffee" or "Java for Jesus", as I cannot think of one visit to two of three locations where I wasn't surrounded by busy theology students. As long as the philosophy is not thrown around loosely, I'm okay until I hear any music of a "theological" nature . . . that aside, it is representative of the demographic. Only in Lewusvul have I personally observed this phenomenon. I think the comments on their "churchiness" come from getting to know the overall staff, who may or may not belong to certain religious organizations. I only see a few employees working hard to keep the tables clean, chairs straight, tables bussed, etc. I'm more service oriented myself, and know from experience that management requires keeping people motivated and busy in-between customers. So there could be a better use of time to improve the customer experience. I prefer the downtown, 5th street location for the coffee bar experience, since it is newer feeling, modern, light, open, and has no worn out thrift store furniture. Feels much more urban and hip to me. Can't beat it in this town. Try all three, by all means! I love these guys... period.
(4)Sara C.
My fiance is a fellow barista in Kansas City, but at least twice a year we drive to KY to visit my family. We can no longer come to Louisville without visiting Sunergos at least once during the visit. Kris (my fiance) LOVES to talk shop (coffee) with other baristas, and everyone we've met at Sunergos has been very friendly and you can tell they appreciate coffee just as much as he does. We've yet to make it to the new downtown location, but will definitely check it out sometime soon!
(5)Troy W.
Very inviting and attractive place. The seating is a mixed bag of mismatched retro or vintage pieces. The decor compliments well. The menu currently offers a great selection of hot or cold coffee drinks and some fruit-yogurt smoothies. For those grabbing a quick breakfast or satisfying a sweet tooth, I noticed a small collection of bagels and scones... appeared to be homemade. This place is a MUST... especially for local Beechmont-ians! I hope to see a few more healthier snack options as well as healthier drink choices (such as 100% fruit and/or vegetable juices). The food & drink choices tend to be hot or weigh a little heavy... not good during a neighborhood walk in the hot summer. Looking forward to seeing this place grow.
(4)Cindy V.
Best coffee I have ever had. The staff is amazing. Friendly atmosphere, local art, with a laid back vibe. The vintage furniture and unique paint job is enough to make you want to move in. I thought I knew what was good coffee and then I met Sunergos and found out what good coffee is.
(5)Zsanine G.
This place was awesome! They even showed us around the coffee roasting area!
(5)Andy B.
Good local south end coffee shop, they know their stuff
(4)Corey H.
Great coffee, great staff!, so happy this store is there.
(5)Lauren D.
I always feel welcome and warm here. The color scheme is so pleasing that I took my color palette for my home directly from their walls. They care about coffee. However, they aren't assholes about it. They offer the right amount of sweet treats to accompany your coffee. They have small pieces of "café please and thank you" cakes wrapped in cellophane and ready to be nibbled on with your beautifully roasted coffee. The furniture is perfectly mid century with no one decade over represented. I feel like I'm home here and can relax as if it is my own living room. I'm not taking off my shoes and putting my feet up on the coffee table, but I have a feeling it would be okay. Different groups meet at this location. I know of at least one knitting group and there are other groups of gamers and old coffee aficionados that enjoy the atmosphere here. This is my favorite first date place. I know that it's close enough to my home that I can escape. I also know that if the date goes well there's Annie's Café right next door to extend our time together. I frequently find Starbucks coffee tastes over roasted. I have never had a bitter cup here. They bring the right flavors from the bean.
(4)Joseph T.
Sunergos be all like, "We got good coffee." And I be all like, "Oh yeah?" And they were all like, "Yeah." So then I was all like, "OK." And wouldn't you know it? They had good coffee. Some of the best in the city, yo. So get off yo rear end and get on down to Sunergos. The Preston Hwy one is more hipster and students. The Woodlawn one is bigger and less of the above. I prefer Preston.
(5)Emily H.
The Sunergos on Woodlawn Avenue is perhaps the homiest of the Louisville coffee establishments I've been to. And I've been to many. Would you like a comfy chair to sink into? Or perhaps you're with a group of friends and you'd like to pull several chairs and tables together to make an area your own? You won't be offending any pre-planned furniture arrangement by doing so -- or not one that can't be easily put back anyway. Most of the furniture is mismatched. I love the array of mid-century-modern, formica tables. And this all works to create an atmosphere that is memorable and comfortable, one that doesn't take itself too seriously -- as some coffee shops are wont to do -- yet doesn't look like it was pulled together over a weekend. It's warm and relaxed. It works. But perhaps enough with the interior design. "What about the coffee?" you may ask. I have not had a bad brew at this establishment. The baristas have always been polite. Sometimes there's only one person both taking orders and filling them, which can lead to a wait, but you can tell they're working as fast as they can. If you want food, I noticed that this Sunergos carries baked goods from Please and Thank You -- can't go wrong there. And you can see them roasting beans through the window into the back of the shop. It's kind of gratifying to drink coffee that may have been roasted under the same roof. All in all, a great establishment.
