I am here right now and having a really great time with my friends. Very good place to eat and have fun!

Okay -- I just want to start by saying I eat here once a week. I work really late and guess what? They're always open. When you walk in sometimes you're greeted, but usually not. There is a wafting smell of vomit (sometimes more subtle than others) that seems to be coming from of the tables. The prices are high and the service is slow. OKAY-- now the good part. The interior is pretty cool, although most of the tables wobble and I personally like the music. When they get the food right THEY GET IT RIGHT. Its overpriced but is so good at times. Portions are huge and you won't leave hungry. Overall? A love/hate relationship. I'll always go back, but I will leave with a bad taste I'm my mouth often (pun intended).

When the original location opened, this place rocked. Now, it's just there. Pizza is greasy, as is 95% of the food on the menu. Last time I was there, I saw roach traps in the bathroom. That's not a good sign of being cleaned. I can name many pizza places locally better.

The key here is not to go in with any expectations. Don't expect to be waited on. Don't expect them to tell you your pizza is ready for take out. Don't expect them to even cut your pizza. Most importantly, don't expect your pizza to be good. If you can handle that level of mediocrity and ineptitude, this is your place!

To me there are 2 kinds of people in Louisville: those that love spinellis and those that don't. I am of the latter persuasion. I used to go here a lot when a few years ago because of the cheap beer and I had some really good times but now I've grown up some n it just doesn't do it for me. I still order the pizza every once in a while when it's super late and pizza must be had, but the leftovers the next morning leave me swearing to never order it again. It's just.. Bland. And the garlic butter isn't even there to save the day because it is basically a lil cup of yellow oil. Whenever I hear someone say they like spinellis I just assume they are young, inexperienced, and drunk .. Just like I used to be!

Waited almost 1.5 hours for delivery and paid $10 for a "Philly Cheesesteak" that was 75% bread and 25% filling. Boo on y'all.

I'm aware that Spinelli's can be a divisive place. You either love it or hate it. I, in fact, love it, but I'm not blind to the fact that it's sometimes dirty. The waits can be long. The other diners can be a bit ... interesting. But, in my opinion, you should measure a business against what it is seeking to be. (You wouldn't hold a McDonald's to the same standards as, say, Vincenzo's, would you?) And Spinelli's is grunge. It's punk pizza. It's a dive-y spot where locals know they can get a giant slice of East Coast-style pizza at 3 a.m. And for these reasons I love it. I love that I can count on Spinelli's for a late-night bite and that Burt Reynolds will be looking down at me -- sans clothes and on a bear-skin rug -- from his giant mural while I dine. I love my memories of scanning the comic book covers that cover the long wall in the large dining area. (Have you seen the cover in which the super heroes debate if they should kill Hitler? It's deep.) I love that if the dining area is cramped you might be able to get a seat in the car-turned-booth near the cash registers. I love the white pizza, with its large dollops of ricotta cheese on top. And I love the fried Oreos -- I mean, how could "fried Oreos" be anything but amazing. And I love the fact that you can buy pizza by the slice for a little more than $3. That's cheap enough for the few bucks left over after tipping at the bars. So to all the haters, I say give Spinelli's another chance, and look at it through fresh, open-minded eyes. If you're hoping for artisan pizza, go and try Wick's or Impellizeri's. If you want a pizza experience -- albeit one outside the realm of normal dining -- go to Spinelli's.

My son and I had a nice big ass slice of pizza inside the old car. This is the second Spinelli's we have tried. Good food. Friendly waitress. Fun to look around.

Spinelli's is A+ when they're on and borderline awful when they're not. Coming from the east coast, I was initially puzzled by Louisville pizza. It's somewhere between Chicago style and NY style. A kind of chewy, dense dough that's not unappealing, it's just no what I'm used to. I found Spinelli's, which advertises itself as "Philly Pizza," which isn't a thing. Philly has subs, sure, but there's no such thing as a Philly style pizza. But whatever--it's the closest I've had to thin crust in along Bardstown Road, so their advertising weirdness gets a pass. I've ordered pizza from Spinelli's and it has easily been 5 stars. The meats pizza is phenomenal. I've also gotten pizza that was cold and bland. It's a crap shoot.

  • Alex B.

Service is bad and they should feel bad. Pizza always tastes like crap and they need some real silverware and cups. My fork always breaks on your chewy bland crust.

Spinelli's is my favorite pizza. I mean, it's delicious. & don't get me started on the pepperoni knots, Philly cheesesteak fries, fried Oreos.... I freaking love the food. But why is it, at all of their locations, all of the employees are so rude?

Give your waitress a high five and order a half chicken and waffles and half works pizza. Great late night stop to soak up some of the booze or keep going with a bucket of beer. So nice it ended our night twice. Two nights in a row.

Food can be such a polarizing topic because we all have unique tastes. . What's delicious to one person can be inedible to another. Spinelli ' s pizza brings this fact to life. My wife and daughter swear it's the greatest pizza either has ever had. I am not a fan at all. I refuse to give them a poor review because I acknowledge they are very good at what they do. The produce a New York style pie made with a sweet sauce cut into enormous foldable slices with sparse toppings. This doesnt appeal to me in any way but its the product the offer. They staff has always been efficient and polite and delivery wait times while often long, are reasonably close to what they give me on the phone. I feel they are a bit pricey for the product they turn out but it keeps the ladies of the house happy so therfore worth it. . If you are a fan of Brooklyn style pizza there is a great chance you will LOVE Spinelli s.....if Chicago deep dish is more your thing.....you would be better off passing them by.

4 stars for being open till 5 a.m 3 stars for the Sicilian being way too thick and doughey like bread, not pizza crust. 5 stars for fresh local farm ingredients 5 stars for WiFi 6 stars for awesome cursing staff! This place is so laid back its like going to your friends dorm room and ordering gigantic organic pizzas! Open till 5 a.m so that's awesome! I ordered a Sicilian pizza and for $33 bucks I got lots of stuff added and the pizza was ginormous but the crust was really hard, very thick and tasted too much like a loaf of French bread. But it was an awesome pizza nonetheless!

Terrible, slow service. The menu is interesting and the hours are great but the two times that I have been here I waited FOREVER for a few pizza SLICES. The point of late night pizza slice places is speed! I feel completely ignored and hungry. Tonight, it is NOT busy and it took 40 mins to get one slice! We have to wait at least 5 more mins to get the next slice. Both had the same toppings. I don't understand. The pizza wasn't worth the wait. Despite the interesting toppings it tasted completely average. Also the bathroom is super creepy.

Love me some Spinelli's. For NY style pizza, it's by far the best in the Ville. You can't beat their 18" cheese pizza. Just the perfect amount of cheese, sauce and dough and consistently tasty. At $15, it's a steal, and often you can get specials for $10. I recently tried their canollis for the first time and found them good. I have also tried the cheesesteak which I don't recommend despite the restaurant as being advertised as a Philly style place with good cheesesteaks. I just found the cheesesteak to be quite under-flavored and lacking freshness. This particular location is my favorite and is great for both take out and dining in. Ask to sit in the car booth (I think it's a black Cadillac) for a quirky visit.

  • Devan H.

I'm going to keep it short and sweet... Spinellies is only the go to when you're back home from the tap room, you've had too many ipa's everything is closed because it's 3am and you need some greasy fatty food. They do have great choices when you're buzzed and looking to get your grub on including the huge slices of pizza or extremely cheesy, yet soggy, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. The delivery wait is always 45 minutes minimum which seems like hours at that time of night, and the prices are a little steep for the true quality of the food. But hey lets be real, at the condition you're typically in when ordering spinellies you don't give a shit how much it cost.

I moved to Miami and there are probably two or three instances each month that I take a moment to think about spinelli's. Maybe it's the memories of going there after school, or maybe it's the fact that everything there is delicious, but I miss it so much. All of the pizzas are ridiculously good. The fried oreos are to DIE for. Everything is just so good. I want to call them later today and see if they can ship some of their food to Miami.

    (5)
  • Gabriel M.

Been here several times, came here on recommendation and it lived up to the hype. The pizza is great and as a dessert you MUST get the deep fried oreos! Every time I am in Louisville I always have to stop here at least once, and I always get an order of the oreos, regardless of what else I get. If you are going to eat-in, as opposed to take-out, be prepared to have not the best service. They don't have the strictest standards on their employees, on two occasions we had a waiter and waitress that were so high they couldn't remember anything we were telling them, and the waitress actually just stood there staring at us with a blank stare, her mouth open, blood shot eyes, and spoke slower then a sloth. The food came out alright so there wasn't much to complain about. Regardless, I highly recommend and will continue to go. Disclaimer, I only go to this location off of Bardstown Rd., so I can't speak for the other locations.

Absolutely love their pizza. Ordered it regularly when I worked at Home of the Innocents. Missed it when I moved back to Chicago but my daughters who still live in Louisville eat there and when we go to visit always stop there. They bring other out of town family members there also and everybody loves it!!!

Got to the hotel late, I was hungy, and there was nothing close by. The front desk said I should consider Spinelli's. I'm not usually too excited about take out places. I love their hours! Delivers unitl 4:30am! They were faster than the quoted 45 minutes, thank goodness. I had the chicken tenders, for $5 they were pretty dang good! Philly Cheese Steak, maybe I don't know cheese steak sandwiches, but it was just alright. It was missing something saucy. That was 7.25. And Pizza slice for $3, I had the Supreme. Their pizza is rocking. Really good, and the slice was huge!! 3 bucks. That was a steal. Great call for late night take out for sure. Can't imagine I'll be in the same situation here in Louisville in this life, but maybe you will be and I think this place might make it a little better.

Immersed in the land of horses, bourbon, & mint juleps, the last thing I expected to find myself eating was east-coast style "Philly" pizza. (Sidenote: does anyone really know what qualifies as "Philly" pizza when it's not made in Philadelphia? My first thought was pizza inside a hoagie, but alas, such was not the case. ) As a former fatty who used to nom on shitty Sbarro slices for lunch all through my formative years, I've got a tender spot (in my duodenum) for quality slices on the cheap. Spinelli's provides, and does so with gusto all the way up until 5am. These slices are huge and floppy: perfect for folding into the quintessential east-coast pizza taco. In the area, there's really nothing better to shove down your gullet after a long day of grueling heat and too much booze. Sure, the staff is full of pseudo punks and snark. But, like fava beans with a nice chianti, Detroit vitriol and impatience pairs well with this joint. I didn't experience the panty bunching others got from the service- in fact, I'd go so far as to say I was impressed by the calm of the staffers handling the crowd of chaches that rolled in from the Phoenix Hill Tavern down the street. They got those fools in and out and back to their drunken summer debauchery faster than a terrified suburban soccer mom driving through the bad parts of the ghetto at night. Speaking of drunkery: PBR for $1, and only 0.75 cents on Tuesdays. Back in my youth, if I forgot that my cleavage entitled me to free drinks across town, I'd have to pay upwards of $2 for bad beer. College kids have it too easy these days. Noteworthy: Spinelli's cheese fries can be ordered with CheezWhiz. I weep for humanity.

While the pizza was decent, albeit huge, the delivery took an hour and a half. This would not be that big of a deal if they hadn't told me it would be a half hour and when I called to check on things they said it was on the way. LIES! I won't be calling them for my late night pizza cravings.

My husband and I just moved here from VA/DC. Upon moving we were really hungry and my husband was told that this place has an awesome New York style pizza! When he said NY Style I was excited! The delivery was fast and arrived pretty quickly. We asked for extra sauce and extra crispy cause that's how we like our pizza! When we got the pizza OMG, it was enormous!! Plus my first bite was amazing, the sauce is so delicious and it has a garlicky like taste but not too much garlic and it was super cheesy! Yummmmmm we've ordered from here like 3 times now and have loved every bite! Good cheap eat for under 20 bucks. :-)

Speaking as a New Yorker, and an Italian, these reviews are too hung up on "good" service. If you want to get your food quickly, pick it up and leave, this is your place. Looking for something classy? This is not your place. On to the pizza, this is East Coast Style. You will never get the same recipe twice, even if the same person is cooking because most of the time, things are just randomly thrown into a pot. Different times of the day, the food will taste different based on who is in the kitchen and how long the slices are sitting. This is how a pizzaria works. I am not impressed at number of toppings, just how the crust crumbles. You can't ask for more in what Spinelli's has to offer as far as a true, New York pizza goes. The deep fried oreos are also good for nights when you got drunk and can't believe you ordered that. Hot night: Tuesdays. $1 PBR

This place is utter shit. Any time of day, there are 20 employees standing around doing jack shit. Half of them will be out front smoking and in dire need of a bath. The wait time is ridiculous, I've been in there with NO other customers and when it was packed, and everytime I've had to wait 30 minutes for a slice of cheese. They are also in health code violation cause no one in the kitchen wears aprons. I've gotten sick from their pizza....this of issues with this place goes on and on...

    (1)
  • Amelia P.

The pizza goes from just ok(at best) to terrible(most of the time). And if you like terrible service this is the place for you! Two stars because they deliver into the wee hours and when you just can't drive to Kroger after a bottle of bourbon this'll do in a pinch.

Excellent Philadelphia style pizza. This isn't a gimmuk - the owner was born and raised in Philly. HUGE slices you can fold. Delicious!

Philadelphia-style pizza and other Philly specialties. Late night hours (5 A.M. Wed-Sun the last time I checked) and pizza by the slice on the premises. This is good for a town where bars close at 4 A.M. Delivery options. Check it out.

My sister and I needed some late night food, and it had to be pizza because she loves her pizza. Being from Oklahoma, I am used to being surrounded by both, chain pizza places as well as private establishments that all claim to be, "Authentic ______ Pizza." Replace that blank with Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Italian, etc. From what I can tell, calling your pizza place an, "Authentic Insert City Name Here Pizza," is a way to say, "Hey, we want you to think we're gonna give you something new and wonderful that is far superior to anything that you are used to, and we will do this by offering less options than the major chains, and giving you really, REALLY big slices of pizza you can fold in half, because popular opinion says that is how you HAVE to eat REAL PIZZA!!!!!" Oh I get it already, shut the hell up with this bullshit. Spinelli's. Your pizza is mediocre. Your prices are great. The Lincoln that you cut in half and turned into a booth and two tables is both a horrible atrocity committed on an innocent car, and a pretty cool thing to see in such a small, hole in the wall pizza joint. The rest of your seating sucks. I understand that you are primarily a "walk-in and take out" place for drunks who don't care, but seriously, I was annoyed all to hell and back by being in your store. And I was drunk too. I had to wait forever. I had to listen to loud, horrible music. I had to watch your creepy, cookie-punk-cutter staff act like idiots, and did I mention the riff-raff your store attracts? Oh, I did. Good, but it bears repeating, lots of goons and fuckups at this place. I know I only went there twice over the course of one weekend in your fine city, but this is my yelpy opinion, and it stands. However, your t-shirts that play off the Sopranos logo were cool, I'll give you that. THE KEETH

Delicious food. Dine-in can be pretty slow, depending on how many delivery orders they have. But the food is cheap enough and delicious enough to be worth the wait.

  • Mary R.

Dear Spinelli's employees, You're right. I don't envy your job. I am glad I am not handling a phone ringing off the hook and the constant tide of drunks coming in from the bars demanding slices at 4 in the morning. This, however, is the job for which you were hired. Yup, as busy as it may get, it's your job to hold down the fort. I don't even ask you to do it with a smile on your face--but you manage. Unfortunately, those smiles are smirks directed at your co-workers when the people in line--who, decidedly undrunk, have been patiently waiting for nearly 20 minutes for so much as a word from you--ask if they can get a slice. Really, avoiding eye contact and/or looking over people's heads as if they aren't there and haven't been there, not even three feet away from you, for the past 20 minutes, is soooo middle school silent treatment. Yet you manage. This is probably your way of maintaining that punk integrity of yours, so cleverly displayed by the flour-stained black t-shirt and the multiple piercings glistening like the pizza grease on your tattooed hands. Yeah, man, rock on in your pizza world. At least you didn't sell out to, like, Domino's...which will be your next place of employment if the owner has two bits of sense and fires the lot of you. Yours, Mary R. P.S. I hope someone has the sense to open another late night slice place in the area, because the pizza is like the service: greasy and subpar.

    (1)
  • Jordan T.

Just waited almost two hours (9:20 order, 11:14 delivery) for this pizza that arrived room temperature, soaking wet (rain) and stiff as board. Manager said sorry, but wouldn't take off the $38 charge. Sent it back with the driver. I'm not going to pay for pizza only to microwave it the minute it arrives. RUDE doesn't come close to describing this pizza joint.

    (1)
  • Victoria T.

Yeah. No. The atmosphere alone put me off. It smelled like wet dog in there. Must have been the Eau de Hipster. The service was arrogant and self-important. That's all well and good if you are a five star rock star. This is not a five star rock star. The appetizers were standard issue deep fried frozen fare. I could have done that at home. The pizza was completely flavorless. I tasted not a single herb in the sauce and the cheese was plasticized. The toppings were underwhelming and cut too big. The crust was mediocre. The bathroom was filthy. I get that it's part of the look. Urban apocalyptic and street style can also be done in a sanitary manner. I really hope the guys don't try to get me to go back here.

    (1)
  • David Y.

Went back to give Spinellis and second chance. This time we received decent service, a huge step up from last time. The slices are enormous but that's about it. It's your average slice of pizza delivered in massive portions.

    (3)
  • Josh H.

I would have given it less than a star, if possible. Took the delivery driver 5 calls to get my address...after 2 hours. So I sent it back. I called to talk to the manager. Their response? "When you talk down to us, we hang up on you." Funny...the worst freaking pizza in this city, anyway. Don't know their own small delivery area. And they don't care about you...they will put you down and talk down to you. They have no idea what customer service is. Boombozz, Impellizeri's,Bearno's, Wick's, Za's, etc etc are actually REAL pizza, and incredibly nice people. Even Domino's, Papa John's, and Pizza Hut are better than this worthless place that tries to charge almost $30 for basically grease on dough! Go anywhere else, please!

  • Britany G.

I heard people talk about this place, and loving NY/east coast pizza I was curious about this "Philly -style pizza".... And well I see why curiosity killed the cat. The place was dirty. Had to chase a guy around to get another beer and a water refill. The pizza was not good, at all. Crust was soggy, thin bread covered in grease. The sauce tasted like canned tomato with a pinch of parsley. My friend ordered a slice with veggie toppings that was not in the slice case.. You could tell they literally took a piece of cheese pizza that had been sitting there for god knows how long, and put semi-cooked green peppers on top of it. The only thing that was not a total disappointment was the deep fried Oreos... It still didn't save the place in my book. I get this restaurant is supposed to have the party-like, hipster vibe-- but a fun Vegas-esque sign and a car booth cannot be an establishments only quality attributes. Save your money, and your belly from below-mediocre food and go somewhere else in the highlands.

  • Kelly L.

Less than 1 star. Girl told me on the phone it would take 25 min faster for pick up than delivery (20 vs 45-1hr), so I decided to pick up. Ended up taking 50 minutes for pickup and 28$ for 2 sandwiches, Pepsi, and 3 chicken tenders, which were barely edible at best. The sandwiches they supposedly made fresh had caked on plastic-like cheese and smelled faintly rotten, I don't see how it was possible. My main problem was that I was told something completely different than what was executed and additionally they gave me attitude when I brought up their fault. Bad food + rude service is not a winning combination, please don't support businesses run like this.

Cool place kind of creepy when you walk down the stairs to go into the place at 1am ha. But wow the Stromboli was huge for just a 1/2 order. The dough was fresh. it is a great people watching place also. Nice beer bottle selection. Have fun and enjoy.

  • John H.

In my line of work, it's hard for me to avoid any restaurant that's open until 5AM, mainly because there aren't a lot of options for late-night dining in my neighborhood. I've been to Spinelli's many, many times. 80% of the time, it's been a pretty crappy experience. Bad food and rude service. Once I saw an employee brush fake butter over some slices that looked like they'd been under a heat lamp for hours and serve them to a customer. Ugh. I've had pies delivered before, as well. Somehow, it takes an hour to get a pizza delivered four blocks away, and it's always cold on top and burnt on the bottom. On the plus side, they sell beer. That's all I have on the plus side.

    (2)
  • Klein M.

Spinelli's is an experience. Their pizza is phenomenal. They under-charge for it, and their by-the-slice slices are more than a bargain. The atmosphere may not seem "proper" to some, but Spinelli's unique environment has earned an even more unique crowd. Suits, ties, tattered t-shirts, and torn jeans. Everyone in the same place for good pizza.

  • Meghan B.

Sooo, what to say about Spinelli's? I was brought here during a business trip by one of my co-workers, a Louisville native who raved about the place. A group of five of us split the cheese bread (I think that's what they call it) Frankly speaking if I had been blindfolded and given a bite of aforementioned cheese bread vs. an oily bit of cardboard with some mozzarella melted on top and sprinkled with garlic salt I would have enthusiastically chosen the latter. The pizza was equally disappointing. Look I've come to terms with the fact that I'm not going to get Jersey quality pizza in the South, it's just one of the things I've had to let go of in exchange for people holding doors open for me and ample parking. But, and this is a big but (my anaconda don't) I have had pretty decent pizza at a select few places. Spinelli's does not come close to touching that elite list with a ten foot pole. The sauce is too sweet, the toppings are lackluster, and the crust is just sad, really really sad. Food aside this place would have gotten three stars from me from the decor and vibe alone (think dingy bar basement in Brooklyn) but the service was pitiful. No amount of retro signs, hip art, dirty rap, or full on cars in the middle of the dining room could distract from the poor service. Our server came back to our table three times to ask us what we had ordered (8 or so slices between the lot of us) and finally brought us our food 30 minutes in. I can excuse this if it was busy, or the food needed to be prepared but there were 9 people in total occupying the place, four of which were working. I left hungry, unsatisfied and nostalgic for Brooklyn dive bars and edible food.

I've been here a few times... It has terrible service and even worse pizza. The shoes hanging out front is down right gross. If you decorate with dirty shoes I could only imagine the hygiene of the employees.

Come early to sit in the car with your kids. Arrive by 11 am for the hottest slice... Bring plenty of quarters for the jukebox! Carry out can be dicey, as can coming TOO late at night...but LUNCH is always hot, delicious, and fresh goodness!

Ordered Spinelli's for delivery and it was amazing. I was just in town visiting and didn't know of any places around town so we randomly chose Spinelli's and were glad we did! Decent prices. The delivery could have been quicker but it was on a Friday night so I'm sure they were getting a lot of orders. Overall, definitely pleased. We had the white pizza with sausage. The ricotta cheese on it was so good and it had huge pieces of fresh sausage with sage all over. Highly recommend!

  • Ricardo R.

Well I stopped in last night at the suggestion of a friend to get some pizza. I ordered a sausage pizza, which cam up just under 20 dollars. Yeah, the pizzas are big, so I thought it was an ok price. The guy said it should be p in 15 minutes. 45 minutes alter its finally out to me while I waited for it. I was crazy hungry since I was waiting for so long, and was hungry before i even got to the place. Well, I open it up... I got a cold, barely cooked PEPPERONI pizza. And how did the pizza get so cold when I was waiting? Was it done and they let it sit there and made me wait an extra 20 minutes so I could get cold? I was beyond irritated and hungry that I said screw it, and I took it home and baked it again myself. It was decent then, but not worth the hype. And talking to the workers there, good luck. They had rap music blaring so loud, I could barely hear the guy yell out my pizza was ready. When I checked the pizza, the guy couldn't hear me when I told him I wanted sausage, not pepperoni. I still didn't want to sit there another 45 minutes for them to make the right pizza, so I left with the pizza. I give it two stars because even thought I got a barely cooked, cold pizza, with the wrong topping, after I baked it about 5 minutes at home, the pizza was decent. Far from the best I have had, but it was not the worst. The pizza is not worth the hype. Also I find it kind of unsettling when random kids who are friends of the workers, I assume, go into the kitchen to chat and hang out. Isn't that supposed to be a sanitary place, not a place for random people to hang out?

We ordered some pizza the other day (for lunch to feed the friends who were helping us move). We had it delivered (I can't express my excitement to be moving in to an area where good local places will deliver). It came earlier than the time quoted, hot and ready to eat! I will admit, it was a little pricey, but places that aren't Papa Johns aren't going to be as cheap as Papa John's. It was tasty, fresh, filling, exactly what we wanted :-) And of course the pieces are GIANT. I really like the crust too. My favorite is their white pizza. Yummmm.

This is the original late night pizza place for Lou! Open until 5am, walk-in's welcome, it's a definite stop on a late night of shenanigans. Now while new locations have opened, and even a new pizza joint across the street from most fo the bardstown road bars, this is the place to go. I've been told it's a Philly owner, they look like NY slices to me. Slightly sweeter sauce, by the slice... can't beat it. Watch out for the "mural" in the dining room... If you've never been and walking there from the bars, you might think you're walking the wrong way... keep going!

We ordered 3 pizzas and 2 two liters of Pepsi at 4am last night. The girl showed up at 5 with the pizzas and no Pepsi. After getting hit on by a drunk asshole she left and promised to come back with the dual pepsi's. She didn't come back.... The pizza was awesome

Recently went to go try out Spinelli's and it was not good. The first strike was a salad that was filled with bitter wilted spinach. In addition, there were tons of gnats roaming the place. The pizza itself was pretty sad. Pretty much "a hot mess". The portion sizes were huge, but the pizza really wasn't worth all the hype. Barely any sauce and few toppings. This is trying to be some sort of imitation new york pizza, I guess. If you are stuck eating here....I would recommend the House salad (not wilted thankfully!) and the Supreme. $6 for a slice (0.50 per topping). I would instead recommend Papalino's a couple blocks over on Bardstown. Tastier and a better value for the money.

Pretty expensive, but open late and the pizza is fantastic! Really dislike the rude servers though. Filthy mouths and not terribly attentive. Needs a little work on that. But again, the food was fabulous!

I have always liked Spinellis pizza. The service however is another story. My husband and I usually split a half pepperoni and half sausage pizza which is more than we can eat but it reheats pretty well so we're happy to have it for lunch the next day. Sure the pizza is greasy, it's pizza. It should go without saying that pepperoni and sausage toppings tend to make a pizza greasy. The veggie and just cheese pizza is far less greasy if you're concerned. Another great option is the Stromboli. Excellent. Again my biggest complaints about Spinellis are the speed and the service. I have been in during the day, at dinner time, and late at night and both are always an issue. I don't think we have ever had a friendly server though some have been worse than others. Food is always slow coming out also. At least a 45 min wait for a whole pizza at any time of day. We actually came in once at around 11 pm with a group of 8 people and after sitting for fifteen minutes and being totally ignored by everyone working we finally left. It's not like they were even that busy yet. With better service this would easily be a four star review!

OK...I only get Spinelli's on the way home from a night of drinks. Slice of cheese, maybe two...always hits the spot!!! That Is All! :)

This is a place where you can go sit in an car by the counter, eat a huge slice of pizza, and listen to punk music. If that sounds fun to you than you'll love it and we should probably become best friends.

When ordering deep fried oreos, which are generally delicious arrived not even half an order and were VISIBLY burnt and when you called to talk to management the manager asked for 'proof' that the item was only half an order. I explained to the manager that I was not complaining about the fact that it was less than half of an order and he responded that he does not do anything without proof. Completely rude and when I work in this industry and was just trying to help him out he was completely rude and when I would have asked what would have made the customer happy he responded and questioned even the reason I was calling. I will not order from here again and I would also encourage everyone else to steer clear of this rude establishment who burns their deep fried oreos.

If you like a good NY style 'za there are only 2 place in Lou to go. If you prefer sweet sauce- this is your spot. If you like Chicago Deep Dish or the cardboard crap ( hello Bearnos or Wicks) that seems to be popular in this area- stay away and leave the good stuff here for us. Perfect thin but not crispy crust, plenty of cheese and toppings. This one is just as good the next day as it is hot. We even brave the rush hour bridge traffic just to pop over for Spinelli's. Incidentally- we are NOT members of the late night crowd. We are usually there in the afternoon for lunch or evening for dinner and have always had great service on top of great food.

Best late night snack. If you have been hitting the town on Bardstown Road and need a little snack to get you through until morning, hop in the car booth at Spinelli's and chow down. Literally this is amazing pizza. The slices are huge and greasy and absolutely perfect for a party night meal. The decor is awesome too with comics all over the wall. The variety is awesome and they often make each slice to order. Don't go in there expecting to have a plus service though, but really who needs that on a Friday or Saturday night at 4am? Just enjoy the experience and take it for what it is.

Mrs. V: Let me start by saying the pizza is fantastic for a thin crust. I had been looking for a thin crust, New York style pizza for a ling time. When I heard that Spinelli's was the place, I was thrilled. However, I called to order twice, in which I was hung up on both times without getting a word out. However, undeterred, I went to Spinelli's simply to grab a slice to try. Good pizza if you don't mind poor service. Mr. V: Not a bad slice of pizza. However, Papa Murphy's is better. You could go anywhere for better service. I'm just not willing to put up with that level of service despite the good pizza.

Making a late night bite list and realized I haven't reviewed Spinelli's. How have I forsaken you? First, I will say that while this is my late night slice of choice, I have also had it with no drinks under my belt and still love it. So that being said here's my review: The white sauce pizza is hands down my favorite. You can get a whole pizza for about 19 bucks and it is the NY style with the huge thin (but not thin crust / crunchy) pieces. The white sauce is very cheesy, mozz, and a healthy dose of ricotta cheese, which I didn't know how much I liked it until I had it here. Add pepperoni or any mix of veggies and you're golden. You can also get a single slice which is pretty massive for either 3 or 4 bucks and they have a salad that is pretty huge. One time when I went with my brother and his family he and I both had one slice and ended up splitting the surprisingly good salad. Even his picky (though precious) daughters loved it. The atmosphere is definitely old school with all the arcade games and the folks that work there are a bit skater (not sure if I'd go hipster on this one), really nice but not in a super duper hurry. And who doesn't love siting at a table in an old car, where your date opens the door for you to climb in with the piping hot, cheesy goodness in your hand? This place was made for me. P.S. I almost forgot the fried oreos!! They will rock your face off.

In reality, this is 3-star pizza. But it is 3-star pizza that they will deliver to your drunk @ss until 4:30 in the morning. And should you be awake and in need of sustenance at 4:30 in the morning, you would swear it was 5-star pizza. If that doesn't warrant a bump in score, I don't know what does.

The Baxter location is a bit of a hole in the wall, but the pizza is consistently good, service is relatively quick, and even if you're just there for a slice, it's a big slice of pizza. It's also open pretty late, which, when I was in undergrad, was a real boon back when dining options near the U of L campus were scarce. My personal favorite is the white pizza with broccoli. It sounds weird, but don't knock it until you've tried it. Well, you don't have to try it, but it's good pizza. A little pricier than your standard pizza chain, but I'd say it's worth it, since you don't eat pizza that much, anyway, you might as well eat what you like. There's other good local pizza places in Louisville - Papalinos, Wicks, and Impellizeris all spring to mind. I personally don't think you can go wrong with any of them, but Spinellis tends to go easy on the pizza sauce (which I like), and the pizzas are thin, floppy, and foldable, similar to Papalinos, whereas Wicks and Impellizeris are thicker, heavier pizzas on the whole. That's not a good or a bad thing, that's just personal preference. I prefer Papalinos, myself, but again, all four places make good pizza, and Spinellis is definitely worth a try if you're in the Highlands or Goose Creek area.

This is what a great late night pizza experience looks like. Spinelli's is a skater tattoo hip hop bad ass scene. They have vintage arcade games, comics for wallpaper, a mural of Burt Reynolds posing in his underwear on a bearskin carpet, a bathroom straight from Elvis' house, a Jukebox packed with the best music selection in town, and a coup de gras beat up black 50's style Cadillac convertible table equipped with suicide doors. Their pizza is great, their service is terrible, and I would have it no other way. Who wants to be served pizza at 4 o'clock in the morning by a chipper and bubbly waitress wearing her corporate polo sparkling with "have a great day" buttons for flair? The Spinelli's corporate t shirt has glocks for L's, their flair is piercings and tattoos, and their "I hate you, what the fuck do you want" attitude proves only that they work hard everyday late at night making fantastic pizza to ensure that they can act like total assholes professionally. I envy them. I keep forgetting to order the fried oreos, but I hear they'll put "I died happy" on your gravestone. I would say with confidence that you haven't lived until you've sat late night in the caddy watching the drunken masses interact with the asshole staff while munchin' on a slice of your favorite pie.

The Italian dishes were very good, and the sizes were right. The pizza is good (I am originally from Chicago so I am a pizza snob, I admit), if no Chicago style pizza is around then this is a great option. Lunch hour can be a nightmare, so go a tad later if you can. Service isn't friendly but hey, I live in Miami now so not friendly up north is downright warm and fuzzy for what I am used to down here. They are just snarly here.

Just because it is local and they deliver til all hours of the morning does not make it good pizza. It is probably at the bottom of my list for pizza I have ever eaten. I even gave it 3 tries at 2 different locations just in case. Some people love it, especially the fried oreos, but to me it is not good no matter how intoxicated I may become. We do have good pizza in Louisville so please try the others before you decide this is the best we have to offer. A novelty for UL students since they deliver til 4am, but sometimes it is better to just pass out.

The pizza is a flop. Sauce is too sweet, crust is too thick for my preference (I like NY pizza crust). But, as previous reviews state, they deliver really late (early?), and it gets the job done when you need it. For this, Louisville is fortunate. Spinelli's gets extra super bonus points for having the closest thing to a real Philly Cheesesteak that I've found in Louisville. The bun texture is right, the meat is chopped right, and they have CHEEZ WHIZ! They are very light-handed with the Whiz, so I'll make sure to ask for extra (extra) Whiz next time.

Maybe if the food arrived quicker it would have tasted better. The driver didn't know where the Crowne Plaza Hotel by the airport was. When he finally arrived he went to the wrong door. Instead of going to the main door he went to one in the back of the hotel and couldn't get in. I guess you can't be choosy when you order pizza at 3:00 a.m.

Spinellis is a unique place to eat some za and deep fried oreos. I love that the all meat pizza has huge pieces of sausage and I love their unique comic book wall in the highlands location. Not to mention the half naked Burt Reynolds painting. it is a hipster joint on the weekends so if you're claustrophobic and get annoyed easily by teenagers don't go. Wait til a late week night and this place is perfect. They serve beer until 4a.

I remember when I was a young college kid living in the Highlands and this glorious late night pizza joint opened up. It's a good pie. Greasy, yummy, foldable slices of pizza. My son loved their mozzarella sticks.

If you want soggy, greasy pizza to absorb all the alcohol in your stomach after a night of drinking go here. Otherwise, for the love of god, skip it. Papalino's is way better and right down the road.

Probably the best slice I have ever eaten. Kills all of those NY pizzerias on 45 or 5th or Broadway. A must-stop destination any time I am in the 'Ville. Slices as big as notebook paper, 8.5x11 or close! The crust actually has flavor, too. Two slices and a cold High Life (or multiple Highs Life) - yeah, that'll do it.

Pubic hair! Yes, that's what I said. Do not ever eat here! We had a pizza arrive with a short and curly on it. The worst part was the indifference of the staff, as if we were a bother to ask for our money back. Sorry if we made a big deal about it, BUT IT WAS A PUBIC HAIR! ON OUR FOOD!

Great tasty pizza by the (big) slices... not paradigm shifting, but still great pizza... my only complaint is that every time I walk into the place I wonder if I'm not cool enough to be there.

FINALLY!!! Finally a New York style pizza place in Louisville. We moved here from Miami over a year ago and have been trying and trying our little hearts out to find a good NY style pizza like all the little pizza joints down in Miami. So many pizza places were opened down there by relocated NYers and you just can't imitate it, delicious, we have become sort of experts in our search. There is lots of 'good' pizza in Louisville but not true NY style. It's a little out of our way, but well worth the trip. Delicious.

Being from the midwest and my wife being from the east, we have a hard time agreeing on what louisville pizza places are great. Spinelli's is a nice compromise for us. I enjoy the east coast style fold in half pizza an in Louisville, this is probably the best. I agree that it can get busy and staff can be alittle short but the pizza is good enough to overlook that. Also, they just opened more seating which is great. If your not in the mood for pizza or want a change, try the philly cheesesteak, you won't be disappointed.

Cant go wrong with down to earth good greasy pizza. We had the largest pepperoni pizza they had and it was huge and fed a group of 6 just right. No frills here just good food, and a chilled out atmosphere inside. All the right ingredients for a no BS and all common sense restaurant.

With great sauce and crust, I love their pizza! There is no other like it in the area. Luigi's is great NY style pizza and I actually like it better. But, there is something to be said for this Philly style/fold it/greasy kind! This variation definitely has its place and time.

great concept. bad follow thru. philly cheese steak, should not be served on a very stale roll. get your act together........you could be franchise material, but at this point your not. Your service is sub par, delivery......below sub par, and your food at best is marginal.......

  • Melinda T.

The pizza is a great NYC style pie, then, tasty. You have to fold each slice. The ONLY problem we've ever had here is the service. We either get someone who seems bothered to take your order or a delivery person that has some serious time management issues. We prefer carryout but we always go knowing that we may need to be ready to leave without a pizza. They do not care. We support them because they are local and we prefer not to deal with chains but honestly when you go be prepared for a side of extreme attitude with your pizza.
