Had an excellent lunch here today with a good friend. The atmosphere is excellent. The waitress that serves us was both friendly and helpful. After ordering two Thai iced teas ( if you've never had one...you MUST) she brought them and then shortly returned with a sample of Thai iced coffee, which is never had but was equally as incredible. I will be ordering one next time I visit. My friend got his usual, Pad Thai, which I tasted and was very good. I have had better, but not many. It was a good version that was a little lighter in the peanut flavor that I love. I ordered the Pad See Eew and I must say it was an outstanding rendition of one of my favorite Thai dishes. They offer spice levels from 1-5 and I being as I love spicy, I started with level 4. The waitress informed me it can be made at levels higher than level 5 but that I would have to read a disclaimer! The 4 was hot, but I'll probably try a 6 or 7 next go-round. All in all a fantastic experience and my first Thai in several years! Don't know why, maybe because I've been favoring Indian for quite some time. The meal came in under $25 and was a fantastic value. Portion sizes, flavor, atmosphere, service and menu offerings prove that this Thai restaurant is a perfect place for lunch with a friend, and would be excellent for a date night. I will return!

Service is probably a bit on the slow side, but efficient and respectful on the whole. A busy Tuesday night saw us wait a bit longer for the food than I think we anticipated, but overall, I liked everything else. Best thai food I've had in Kentucky so far, with portions the size I expect them for ethnic food elsewhere in the country. Good spot that even when crowded never felt loud and without ridiculous music, but instead tv screens so you can watch the game. (Clearly I know what state I'm in...) So yeah, everything was solid about it and certainly a place I'd hit up again for Thai in a heartbeat.

The serviceis terrible. Long wait for the food to come. Food was not the right temperature. Like Thai Food, but could'nt enjoy because of terrible service.

Saturday afternoon bday lunch with Wife. Arrived at 1:08pm. It's 1:37 now and not one person has stopped to take order. But has walked by ten times. Horrible

Love the food. It keeps me and my wife coming back. I recommend the St. Matthews location because the service is better. The service at this location is mediocre, okay at best. Just waited 15 minutes for water. I think each server maybe has 2-3 tables. I don't know if it's a training issue or a management issue. I should have a drink order in two minutes after sitting down. Eventually, the food is not gonna hold up and this location is going to tank. There's a reason why Havana Rumba has a 1-2 hour wait on Friday and you can walk right in to Simply Thai. Hope somebody at the company reads this and takes it seriously. Because in all seriousness, they have the BEST Pad Thai ever. I just wished the service matched the food. Advice: Greeters shouldn't be socially awkward people. Roughly a dozen visits and have not ONCE seen a manager. Good restaurants have managers that talk to their customers. Don't top off soda, bring a new glass. It gets watered down. High turnover (which this place has) is the fault of management either not hiring well, or not training well, or both. Great service starts at the top.

This place, oh...this place. Great for lunch or dinner and everything on the menu is stellar. If this is your first time, try the Wasabi Dumplings and the Pad Thai. These are easy staples and on future visits, you can begin getting a bit more adventurous. When you order your Pad Thai, they will ask you to provide your request spice level (1-5). Start with a 2 or 3, unless you really like your spicy food like me. I typically order the 4. Level 5 is for the brave and those that can endure flames in their mouth, stomach and beyond. Enjoy this gem. Glad to have it in our city.

We always get the Chicken Pad Thai carry out. Spice levels consistent. Recommended

This is so hard to rate, because the food is excellent, but the service is not. I've been to the St Matthews location where the service is kinda the same, but the food just keeps me coming back for more mediocre service. Love the curry and the spice levels are spot on. If they would just learn to smile a little, I'd give this place 5 stars.

Two words, Thai Thursdays. The annoyance of the work week is almost though, it is my late night at the office but I have to be back in before the sunrise tomorrow- Where else am I going to go? Simply Thai. I am a fan of routine, I always order pad see-ew with tofu and add vegetables. my only complaint on this delectable dish is an up cost of adding veggies when you've made it a tofu dish. I do often visit the Middletown location for takeout, however I do like the ambience of the St. Matthews location a bit more. They have added a loyalty card program! Buy 10 entrees get the 11th free.

It's Saturday night, and I have my crazy family to feed. We've stopped at two restaurants already and both had over an hour wait. That wasn't going to fly tonight with my sister's two kids in tow, in addition to one crabby wife who was functioning all day on a blueberry muffin and a handful of Combo's. Yes, those Combo's. The delicious cheese filled pretzel snacks... so good. Moving on. We stopped at a plaza with a popular Cuban restaurant and again, over an hour wait. Simply Thai is in the same plaza. This was my last chance to feed these lunatics before something illegal went down. I approached the host stand and two friendly young folk greeted me. I told them I'd be needing a table for 6 adults and two kids. They looked over their seating chart and at first the looks on their faces indicated that possibilities were lacking. Then in a last ditch effort, they seemed to realize they could put some tables together somewhere and make this magic happen. I am indebted to them. We sat down and our server came up to get our drink order. My sister ordered a coffee. They don't have coffee... unless you want Thai iced coffee. This of course threw my sister's world into a spiraling vortex of indecision. *face... double-palmed* She eventually went with a hot jasmine tea and the planet began revolving again. I ordered a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. I have to say, I was definitely impressed that a Thai place was carrying a local brew. It's a decent beer, but the bourbon flavor gets to be a bit much for me half way through. I like my beer and bourbon separate. I only had one then moved on to a familiar friend, Chang, a mellow Thai lager. With my head getting right, I could start thinking about food. We started with chicken spring rolls, chicken satay and a tempura roll sans roe - since my sister doesn't like roe (are you noticing a trend as to Who is the most difficult one, wink wink nudge nudge). The apps were all very good. The spring rolls were my favorite. They were wrapped in lettuce, crisp and refreshing. After a few days of eating heavy foods, it was a nice change. I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice as my entrée for one reason... it's served in half of a pineapple. This appealed to me since I'm easily amused much like a small child with a bendy straw. The rice usually comes with raisins in it. I ordered it without raisin because raisins are nothing more than grapes touched by the devil and filled with pure evil. This evil can only be neutralized by covering them in chocolate. Moving on. The pineapple fried rice was good. No complaints. My kid wanted to put in an order of Thai donuts, a dessert that is for him, above all others. Unfortunately, we were told they don't do Thai donuts but they did have some homemade ice creams and a fried banana concoction. We went with that. I didn't try it, but am told it was delightful. As I conclude this review, I have to give a nod to our server, whose name according to my receipt, was Brad. This dude was pretty much on point all night from the time we got to the restaurant when the place was full, to the time we left, when it was almost emptied out. A tip of my hat to you my good man. I'm pretty surprised that Simply Thai is only three stars but such is life in the world of opinion. All I can do is throw in my 2 cents and say, I believe it's a solid 4 stars. We had a great evening, great service and no one in my family ended up incarcerated or hospitalized with blunt force trauma. Success.

I went to Simply Thai in St. Matthews a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time. This time was still yummy, but the difference in the spice levels was off. If you're located in two places, I feel like things should be consistent and 1 spice level was very different in both places. I had the beef pad Thai and my server suggested adding veggies which was brilliant. Very attentive service which I always appreciate. And we left very full and with lunch for the next day :)

This is the only place I go to get my curry fix!! I'm not sure what they do there, but this stuff is magic! I've had the green, yellow, and masaman curry and they all are extremely delicious! You can make them as spicy as you want (scale of 1-5) but I feel like the spice level is different for whoever the cook is that day (I usually order level 4 spicy) Lucky for Simply Thai, I don't know how to make curry, so I just keep coming back for more!

We were there on August 6th for dinner. The service was horrible. Our waitress took our order and she brought the drinks out and spilled one of the thai tea all over the table. Which was fine..no biggie. The appetizer was really good. But that was all that came out. We waited for an hour for our entree and our waitress said that she has been checking on it but the kitchen was backed up. Shortly after that she came to apologized and said she forgot to put in the order. We paid for appetizer and left.

Great little strip mall with Havana Rumba on one end and Simply Thai on the other. Both have patios and both allow dogs so extra kudos for that. Simply Thai has a nice little wine list and also a good selection of bottled beer. AND... they have a great selection of Boba Tea flavors! Awesome. Flavors for anyone! They also allow pets on their patio so bonus points for them! Food is tasty and the wait staff is friendly. A great little place. Just wish the parking situation was better.

I honestly can't understand why this place can not seem to get their act together. Tonight, against outlet better judgment, we returned for dinner after a 1 year absence. Once again, our appetizer order was never put in and came out long after our food came, the beer that came to the table was not as ordered, and the servers were generally clueless. The St Matthews location is amazing - atmosphere, service, and food. Middletown is a poor substitute and a huge disappointment. We've called in take out in the past and had to wait an hour for food. We've gone to eat in the past and had our food served to other tables and been made to wait 45 minutes for replacement food. We've been seated and sat for 30 minutes with NO service. I think today's trip finally sealed the fact that we will never be back. So sad, but now that Yang Kee Noodle is open in Middletown Commons, we'll have pad Thai without the horrible experience.

We've been eating here since they opened out in east Louisville and their curry has been the BEST. Just ordered last night and we were uncharacteristically disappointed (too spicy, recipe change?), but hopefully it was an anomaly. Change of chef/recipe warning!

My boyfriend and I absolutely love this place. It's one of our absolute favorite restaurants in the area. I highly recommend the tod mun moo appetizer, it's absolutely delicious. The Thai iced tea is to die for. The green curry is my favorite entree I've tried so far. It's divine. My only complaint is that sometimes the staff is not all that helpful... There have been times we've walked in and waited a full five minutes for the host to seat us, and this is when it's not at all busy and the restaurant is nearly empty. But aside from that, I highly recommend this place!

The wait for the food however, it was well worth the wait!!! I will definitely be back

My friend and I wanted sushi and Thai food last night, so we figured we would give this place a try based on reviews. I highly recommend the woon sen pad thia with sweet potato noodles that another yelper has commented about. It was absolutely fantastic and the portion is huge! Way more than enough for us after a couple of appetizers and it heated up nicely as leftovers. On the flip side, I do not recommend eating sushi here. The rice was very spongy and had the consistency of grocery store sushi. I think it has too much rice to begin with. Not mention they served it on a hot plate. Kinda gross but we still ate it. I don't recommend the spring rolls either. I could tell they tried to cut corners by making their own peanut dipping sauce and it was more like simple syrup with peanuts sprinkled on top. Miso soup was pretty good and had lots of tofu and seaweed. The seaweed salad didn't disappoint either. Service was okay. We came closer to the end of the night and the servers were stacking up chairs at the tables around us. We're both servers and would never be allowed to do that. We both felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant. 5 stars on Thai food. 3 stars on service. 3stars on Japanese food.

Somewhat slow service once entree ordered. Returned 7/31/15 and again SLOW food prep. Several tables received there orders and left before ours arrived

  • Julie M.

Service was extremely slow. We noticed other diners who arrived after us received their food before us. The appetizers, spring rolls and curry puffs, were very good. The entrees were not spicy, even though we'd requested a 3 on a scale of 5 being hottest. My entree had a distinct alcohol taste, as though the soy sauce maybe had not been cooked into the dish or something else had been added.

This is probably my one of two favorite places for thai in Louisville. Depending on my mood I would say #1! Their restaurant is beautiful, their staff is friendly and their food is amazing. I love their spring rolls and chicken pad thai. I've had their sushi a few times and it's always been very good, although I don't come here for the sushi.

In my opinion this location is just as good as the St. Matthews location without the long waits. Red Curry level 4 is my go to dish and it is always a flavor blast of taste. Service is always attentive and fast. They also have a sushi menu that is a nice compliment to the menu. The night we went it was half price wine bottles which made our bottle of Kung Fu Girl just slightly above retail which is unheard of for bottle service.

What a great dinner at Simply Thai!! I started with the Thai Pepper, a recommendation from my server. It was a mondo large banana pepper stuffed with minced pork and asparagus, deep fried with a really light batter, and served with a sweet dumpling sauce. Delicious! The capper was the dinner plate. Wow, what a terrific blend of meat, veggies, and sauce. The dish was called Simply Green, and sums up the vegetable part of the dish. It was loaded with broccoli, cabbage, celery, and some onion I believe and topped with a large serving of the flat Asian style beef. The kicker was the sauce. Wow, they called it a ginger brown sauce. It was so much more. I tasted ginger, garlic, lemon, all wrapped up with a sweetness and #3 spice which brought all the flavors together. Amazing, I spooned it out of the bowl and drank it like soup. Either go with a 2 or 3 spice scale which really sits well with all the other flavors and gives you a chance to taste everything without setting your taste buds on fire rendering them useless. The ginger sauce with the best...delicate, not too salty or sweet.....ahhh, just right. Nice menu and establishment. Great drink specials before 6:30. I will definitely return.

The food was very enjoyable but this review is more for the service which our 16 person party received: Taylor, our server, was above and beyond excellent. Extremely patient, kind, helpful, spot-on with her organizational abilities in handling a large party, and overall wonderful to have working with us. The awesomeness with which she handled our group is enough to make me return.

Let me preface this by saying I've gone to the location on Wallace nearly every time I've traveled through Louisville since Simply Thai was in the location of the vietnamese restaurant. That location has always been good to me. However, this location is a different story. I came in to the restaurant and wasn't greeted for a few minutes when noone else was at the hostess stand. I sat down and the waiter took my order fairly shortly afterwards. After I got my drink I didn't hear from the waiter for another 20 minutes. It seemed to take forever for the food (Pad Kee Mow) to get to the table. I was there at lunch time and sort of pressed for time. The food wasn't anywhere near as flavorful as the same dish I've had at the Wallace location. I am very disappointed with this location of Simply Thai. I feel like better management could correct every problem I had.

  • Dava D.

It was wonderful. The Pad Kee Mow & Shrimp wraps were both good choices. I ordered a level 2 spice but should have went for 4. I was given added spices to season it to the level I wanted. Everything was very fresh. I would definitely come back. Just be care of hidden charges like extra or different sauces.

Im a farang that lived in thailand for two years spent time in the north, east, and Bangkok. I lived in each area for 3-6 months and found the best hole in the walls around. Its an ok place, but I make better curry than the stuff I had here and I've never had Khaaw Soy this bad. Nothing like the good restaurants in Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai. And don't bother asking for sticky rice (a staple throughout thailand) for your papaya salad or beef waterfall they don't have it. Could be that my time in thailand spoiled me, but I do know its possible to find good thai food in this US of A (San Antonio, Utah) just not in good ol Louisville. Sad because I'm gonna be here for a while

  • M C.

I think Simply Thai is the best of the Thai restaurants in Louisville. The food and service is pretty consistent and the Loaded Fried Rice dish is very creative. I would give it another star accept the value is just not there. It is pricey considering what you get and compared to better Thai places I've eaten in similar size markets. All in all good not great. We could use more Thai competition in Louisville!

    (3)
  • Brandi N.

We waited on Seabass an extra 15 minutes after getting other entree and then we declined. So the manager arrived and said that was not an unreasonable wait and she WOULD NOT take it off our bill! Really. Won't be back!!!

    (2)
  • Terry B.

Not the best Thai I've ever had, but very good. A little "Americanized," which is better for some folks. Sorta like the difference between what you get at a local Mexican Restaurant in Louisville vs. a Taqueria in Texas.

We have had three great meals here in a row in the past three weeks. Wait staff have been terrific too. Definitely recommend if your into Thai.

I have frequented this establishment on a weekly basis. Having enjoyed other locations I was excited to have them in the Middletown area. My last visit there for dinner may be my well my last. My experience was not a good one.

  • Jeff D.

Simply the best in town. I've had Thai all over the country and Simply Thai is right up there with the best. Red curry, loaded rice and pad Thai are all worth a try. This location is still working out the kinks, and service at the original was never a strong suit, but I trust Jeff and his gang to pull through and give us a good Thai option in Middletown. (Sorry, Lemongrass doesn't count)

  • Tamera W.

Food was bland, tofu was cooked incorrectly & staff rude. It was very surprising that there were no people of Asian descent working here in the kitchen or on the floor. Also when we asked for our check, the staff said the computers were frozen. We had to wait 25 minutes after we were finished eating without one staff memeber offering us food/drink/discount for such a LONG WAIT !! Will not be returning here!

  • Mike F.

Very disappointed ... only similarities to the other Simply Thai is the restaurant name. Poor service - can only guess absentee owner/manager. Great location; was originally quite excited to have Thai food in Middletown. Won't be back until I see some sort of dramatic turnaround in Yelp! Reviews indicating new management - or a visit from Restaurant Impossible tv show! Ugh!!

  • Angie J.

Had dinner here last night with a friend. Loved it! Pad Thai was the best I've had in Louisville, and our server (Lisa, I think) was friendly, helpful and relatively attentive. My only complaint is the price of appetizers and soup, vs the prices of the meal dishes. My Pad Thai was $10 (with chicken) and more than enough, but the shrimp dumpling appetizer (which was fantastic!) was $6 and tiny. (If you go for something other than the traditional noodle/rice or curry, however, the "entrees" are $14-$24, which is more than I'm generally willing to pay.)

    (4)
  • Tom R.

I need to mention that this review applies ONLY to the Middletown location! The St. Matthews location is *much* better. I've eaten at the St. Matthews location several times and enjoyed it very much.

    (2)
  • Scott B.

Checked out this new location for a carryout lunch. Ordered a steamed dumplings appetizer, and small pad Thai with chicken. The dumplings were great, just a bit small portion, for an appetizer. The noodles had great flavor. The chicken in the dish was a bit dry, but acceptable. Overall, I will give them another shot dining in the dining room, but will order differently, as my lunch total, after a $3 tip was $17...which seemed pretty steep for a noodle lunch.
