Awesome Asian fusion restaurant! We went on Mondays for 1/2 price small plates. The spicy wings were deliciously sauced and crispy. I usually don't eat chicken wings at all, but the wings here were so amazing that I have been converted! The fried pork ramen noodle soup was delicious and unique. And the bartender even hooked me up with $3 glasses of wine. Can't wait to come back on Wednesdays for 1/2 price sushi rolls! I really hope this place can survive long-term because it really is unique and adds a much needed fusion cuisine to our Louisville food scene.

Finally tried this place after being heartbroken that Sora closed here a few months back as it was one of my favorite sushi joints close to my house. Fun atmosphere and was surprised to see more of a bar scene than we expected. Fun staff, always a good time! Great happy hour specials and wine specials and a fun staff. Sushi was pretty good and the menu has a lot of different items, would like to try some different items on the menu. The menu includes lots of different items so that's good for any non-sushi lovers in your party. We are looking forward to many return visits!

It should be noted that this business just opened six days ago, so perhaps this review should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, this is actually a pre-existing business, that is merely under new management now. The color scheme inside the establishment is a little different, and the menu has expanded, but that's about it. (They offer burgers now.) I always find it a good sign when the employees in a sushi restaurant don't speak English to each other. Indeed, that's the way it was here. However, I think they were speaking...Spanish. Nevertheless, the head chef was Japanese, so that's good. (Obviously, this is not a slam on Spanish-speaking people -- it just wasn't the Japanese I was expecting to hear in a sushi place). I sat down and asked for iced green tea (since it was in the 80s outside). I was served...piping hot green tea. Also, it was no longer in the pretty tea pot the previous management used -- just your basic standard-issue metal decanter. The tea was good, though nothing extraordinary. Speaking of 80s, the new management kept the PA-system soundtrack of 1980s suburban America mall rock. I have no idea why a sushi place would play that. I ordered the spicy salmon roll and the spider roll. Both had a mushy texture with muddled flavors. The rolls were unevenly cut. The rolls were served with the (sub)standard fake pickled ginger and fake wasabi (to go with the fake crab in the spider roll, I guess). The spice on the salmon roll was at a good level, though. In short, the food was really mediocre and not worth a return visit. However, I gotta cut them some slack since they just opened. Maybe I'll try again in 6+ months, if they're still there. At peak lunch hour today the place was almost empty -- just me and 3 other people. I should say, though, that 2 of those 3 other people were having a marvelous time and seemed to be enjoying themselves, so maybe this "meh" review is just me.

They are no longer in business. Was looking forward to trying them out, but they are closed.

We strive to completely satisfy our guests. Fresh sushi, awesome kitchen food and a great bar. Come see me on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. I WILL do everything in my power to make you happy! Try 1/2 priced apps on Monday, 1/2 priced sushi rolls and 1/2 priced bottles of wine on Wednesday and $1 sake and happy hour all night long on Thursday! Ask for shaun and sit in the bar!

I came here with my family and had a wonderful Japanese fusion experience. We ordered the Seoul Fries as an appetizer. I have to say it's something you have to try in order to explain. Definitely not your normal set of French fries and exceptionally good. We had the mussels and they were cooked to perfection. Also came with a nice sauce that was delicious. The kimchi stirfry with tofu on the side was one of my favorites. We also ordered the sushi and sashimi dinner platter and the sushi combo. The sushi and sashimi was very fresh and delicious. They have a great selection of beer and alcohol. Overall I would recommend this place to my friends and would come back again soon!

We have eaten at Shoyu Asian & Sushi Bar on Chamberlain Lane at least once or twice a week for the last 3 or 4 months. I have to say we have tried just about everyything on the menu. Absolutely EVERYTHING has been FABULOUS!!! The best in town by far, and we have eaten tried many different restaurants. The sushi is our favorite and you can't beat the variety and selection. I don't know anywhere else in town that has 1/2 price appetizer's on Monday's, Wednesday's is ladies night with 1/2 price sushi & wine, Thusday's is 1/2 price wine night, then Happy Hour daily from 4-7 pm (with $8.99 buckets, $2.50 tall domstics, $2.00 small domestics, & $3.00 wells) only at Shoyu. If your looking for a place for GREAT Sushi or just an awesome meal of something Asian, Japanese, &/or Korean all fused together.....You really need to do the Shoyu Asian & Sushi Bar.

I dined at Shoyu for the first time last night, Thursday, 12/11/14 with a fairly large group so we had to place our orders at the bar. The bar staff was awesome. I ordered the fried squid appetizer. Half the order was burned black when it arrived . The portion that was remaining, which one could consider edible, was very tough. The entrée that I ordered, bulgogi bbq, was supposed to come with miso soup and house salad. When my entrée came before the miso soup and/or house salad I mentioned not getting either. As dinner progressed I was never to get either the miso soup or the house salad. I understand that it was a very large group, but if the establishment cannot stock supplies and/or serve appropriately then a maximum party limit should have been set to prevent disappointment. Several other members of our party voiced varying complaints as to the quality, taste and temperature of the food served. Dismal dining experience.

It was a dreary Friday so we skipped the St James Art Fair and decided on a trip to the new outlet mall instead. On our way, we stopped here for the first time to grab a quick lunch, after a great write-up on InsiderLouisville.com . We were pleasantly surprised with this little hidden gem. They have some very reasonably priced lunch specials, such as two sushi rolls and a salad for $10. Our friendly waitress brought a steaming pot of green tea as we ordered. The typical Asian ginger salad was crisp and refreshing. Most of our sushi rolls were very good, including the spicy shrimp roll and the California roll. The only disappointment was the spicy tuna roll, which has a mushy texture we did not find pleasant. My wife had chicken fried rice which she devoured. While I love places like Sapporo on Bardstown Road, sometime a quick, quiet, out-of-the-way place is all I am looking for. This place fit the bill. I will be back.
