The chorizo queso is awesome! With sausage, onions, peppers, and cheese. We order it every time. I have eaten a very large percentage of the menu and there isn't a bad item on it. The Is, Ismael, Carlos, and Martin specials are very similar, but fantastic. Try the Volcan, unusual but great. Dos Equis is always cold, Margaritas are good by the pitcher. One of my favorite restaurants. We are there a few times a month.

Cannot say enough about this restaurant. Eat there more than once and you feel like a vip. Good food, attentive service and a clean restaurant. Very pleased.

Have been here 2 times now and it was a good experience twice. Best dish hands down is the rice with shrimp. Good flavor, cooked well. Good service. Overall a good experience. Well done.

I must say I'm a little bias, this place is just down the road from mY house and i love everything about this place. I visit this on average once a month. the staff is friendly and very attentive. The food is excellent, starting with the salsa, fresh and made in house... there have been times that i stopped by to take just a large salsa and chips home for the week. I love the Fish Tacos and the Pescado Vallarta is great one of my favorites, along with the Fajita Taco salad and the Fajita Quesodila. Once wasn't sure what to order and the manager suggested for me to let him make me something special. needless to say it was delicious Grilled Pork, chicken and shrimp with onions and peppers and vegetables. They also have good Margaritas :)

Excellent food and great service. A regular lunch spot for teachers and students at Whitefield, when we can get away. I especially enjoy the churros...if you can manage to save room for dessert!

Good salsa and chips. So so queso, chicken tacos a bit dry. Overall not bad but there are a couple better Mexican places in Louisville.

The Mexican National Soccer Team was playing a few days ago in the Gold Cup; in the spirit of cheering on Mexico I figured it was a good time to grab some Mexican food nearby. I had been to Puerto Vallarta a few times though the last time had to have been over half a year ago. My previous experiences here had been good, not great, but good. Our party of 4 entered the door and we were promptly seated. Fast Forward to us receiving our food. The other's food was "ok" though everyone complained that our chips tasted what we could only describe as burnt cardboard. The Salsa helped slightly in giving it some flavor. MY food which was the "Special Dinner" The Menu read that this came with a Taco, Chile Relleno, Enchilada, Tostada, and a Tamale. I thought, wow, all that for only about $12- I gotta try this over my initial choice of Carnitas- a Mexican favorite. My order came and it covered two plates. However when I took a look at my food I was already disappointed. The taco was a hard shell taco smaller than what you would find at a Taco Bell. Negative points for it being a hard shell. The Chile Relleno was decent. The Tostada was soggy and fell apart when I tried to pick it up. I had to eat it with utensils- a Tostada was made to eat with hands. I took a couple bites out of my Enchilada and thought the flavor was absolutely bland- the meat didn't taste well and the sauce had to have been from a can. If it wasn't, it wasn't any better than a dollar canned sauce. I decided to try the Tamale and found it to not only be extremely dry but also very cold in the inside. Now why are these tamales frozen and how long were they frozen? No reason to not have these freshly made at a restaurant. The waitress came over and I told her about my complaints. I told her that the Tamale wasn't fresh and was cold. She stated in Spanish " That's weird because they make everything fresh every day" . Now I'm not an expert...actually after a few decades of eating real authentic Mexican food in my household and in authentic filled cities I do consider myself an expert; there was no reason to lie to me and tell me that the tamale was fresh. The waitress then stated that she would take the order off my bill after seeing that the only thing I had actually finished was my Chile Relleno. Her next comment in Spanish was " Next time you should order something more Mexican. The Special Dinner isn't really Mexican and isn't as flavorful as the more Mexican stuff. It's made for the people that expect more Americanized Mexican food" EXCUSE ME?!? She had walked away before I could even reply. Now I understand that some customers may not want some of the real authentic meat choices found at some of the Taco Stands around the city. But this is a Mexican restaurant and I'm expecting real Mexican food. Everything that was under the "Special Dinner" had a Mexican name next to it. How was I supposed to know that this was the "Americanized dish" ? Also, how was I supposed to know that the Americanized dish would be bland and not freshly made. Who would want that? Absolutely ridiculous! 2 Stars for the inconsistent experience- though nothing stood out as amazing the last few times, it was decent food and a good experience. I would want to go back only to see if they could improve on this experience and I would give them a chance to improve my rating of their food and service.

Went here on a whim; was in town for an event and on our way back to Lexington. We found this place and it wasn't too busy on a Saturday evening. We were seated, and given chips and salsa immediately. They were tasty, service was VERY FAST! Food was cheap and good. Didnt get a chance to try any drinks due to having to drive, but prices looked very affordable as well. Great place to try!

Moved to Louisville from the Central Valley of California, and of course, was immensely skeptical of any "Mexican" food from Kentucky. Could not have been more impressed by this place, it is excellent. The prices are great, the food is excellent (especially the pork, some of the best carnitas I've ever had). I love enchiladas and its the first thing I try everywhere, they were excellent. Been here a few times and every trip has been fantastic. They are also incredibly fast. I couldn't believe how quickly they got the food out the first time here. There is absolutely nothing bad to say about this place.

So disappointed. Used to be a favorite place to dine. Used to be fresh made salsa. Tonite, just as bad as cheap grocery store bottled salsa. The retried beans so thin and pale they were barely recognizable as retried beans. The taco had maybe three small tablespoons meat, a tablespoon of lettuce and pinch of cheese, with hardly any seasoning. The draft beer was barely chilled. The only pleasant part was the attentive waitress!

As far as Mexican restaurant's go, this is as good as it get's. By no mean is it gourmet, but it is your typical Tex-Mex done right. Fastest service I've ever had anywhere, reliably. Food isn't greasy, everyone is nice, prices are very reasonable. Good drink specials, very clean and a vegetarian selection on the menu. Not bad!

I think I survive purely on their nachos puerto vallarta.....I honestly eat there a couple of times a week (sometimes more). Fast service, friendly staff...food always hot, fresh, and delicious.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
