Along with many other patrons on our Monday night trip, hubs and I went to use a LivingSocial coupon before it expired. We came in with low expectations but were generally impressed with our dinner. We enjoyed the Munch Roll (spicy crab, shrimp), 911 Roll (spicy tuna, cream cheese, jalepeno), and our favorite, the Zacking Roll (fried red snapper, cream cheese, teriyaki). Our calamari appetizer was cooked well - not just big rubber bands. I wouldn't recommend the seaweed salad, there was just nothing special about it, and there was too much dressing. The miso soup was pretty standard. Strange hours, no website, and not open on the weekends. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 because it was probably the best sushi we've had so far downtown.

Great place, went back a second time..more traditional sushi. Service was excellent.

My friends all had rolls and enjoyed them. They looked good and there is one special roll that they put on fire - the Osaka roll. Sounded and looked great. I got the nabeyaki seafood udon, and was quite disappointed. And that's not easy to mess up... The shrimp and scallops were very good, but they put in squid which was very tough, and the soup left a lot to desire. I would avoid it. I wanted a bento box but for some reason that was $19.95. At lunch time! Wed and Thursday lunch they have specials for teriyaki and tonkatsu plates - $6.95, so that may be the way to go. However, no one ordered it so I can't comment. Bottom line is: Everyone was happy with the rolls, so that's what I would do next time. They have a kimchi roll that I thought would be phenomenal, but it turns out it's a regular Korean sushi roll with kimchi as one ingredient. It did taste great though. If I remember correctly, Monday and Tuesday are buy on get one free rolls. Very good!

I do not go out for lunch much at work, but when I do it is almost always either mexican or sushi! Ha! Osaka is a good pick for downtown lunch. They are relatively fast and have lots of options for me. I love getting their mushroom soup. It is always so warm and comforting. I also enjoy the avocado roll and the tempura asparagus roll. Oh, and of course the usual house salad with ginger dressing. Those are all wins for me. Plus, a sushi lunch does not make me feel overly stuffed when I have to walk back to work for several more hours. Keep in mind they close at 2pm, which is on the early side.

Grabbed a couple of tuna rolls as part of the Monday lunch special (I know, ordering fish on a Monday?) $5 for a pair of rolls was a great deal, so I had to give it a shot. Walked right in and made my order and had only a short wait for my order. The rolls were well-made and good, although I did hit a couple of pieces that had a slight fishy odor. Will definitely be going back more regularly for lunch.

They have good lunch deals. Monday and Tuesday BOGO sushi rolls. On Wednesday they have $1 nigiri. I tend to not favor nigiri sushi, so although we went on a wednesday, I ordered 2 regular roll. My wallet makes me wish I had come on a Monday or a Tuesday for the deal...oh well. The rolls were pretty good. Nothing I've had at either Osaka location sticks in my mind (or my stomach) as something I love so much I would crave it and insist on going to *this* place for sushi (like the Kamikaze roll at Caviar that my mouth waters for and I would go out of my way for). But the rolls are good. The service was fine. And the interior was a bit nicer looking than I expected. My visit was slightly negatively colored by the hissing and shouting at me that a man on the street was doing towards me as I was walking up the street to the restaurant and as I entered. But that isn't Osaka's fault. It just made me uncomfortable for the entire lunch time away from my office... There are at least 2 sushi/japanese cuisine places closer to my office that I would favor over Osaka's. But if someone else wanted to dine here, I wouldn't put up too much of a fight.

2011 I went I ate I enjoyed myself. I was very skeptical after reading the reviews on yelp. Service was great, place was clean, no odors, my friend and I had a great fun time. I did not participate in the $1 roll or sushi specials. I had uni with quails egg, delish! My friend has recently acquired their taste for sushi and we ordered spicy tuna roll, some spicy crab (real crab not that pollock dyed red) roll and a roll that was deep fried with many yummies inside. 1/17/2012 Took a bunch of people there (6) last night. Quality was on par and everyone was satisfied with what they ordered. One item of note, they no longer do specials for dinner. Price was spot on for me and not as expensive as other places nearby...

Looks Above Average, tastes Average. I don't know what happened between Market and Frankfurt Ave, but the if you want to try Osaka definitely make the extra couple miles to Frankfurt Ave. The service was fine, restaurant was clean, and they did service sushi, but that was about it. The Osaka Roll came out and looked amazing! Server took a blow torch and lit the dish on file so we could watch our Mozzarella cook. I would have blown out the flame if I realized the amount of Tempera on the inside of the roll would taste like burnt toast. This rolls impression definitely went up in smoke after the flames went out. We had the chicken teriyaki to split and it was not enough. It had a small 4oz piece of chicken slivered with a side of carrots and potatoes. The teriyaki sauce tasted okay, but that was the only thing that tasted like it should. My only fear is that convention and out-of-towners think this is how the Louisville does Sushi...to see correct Sushi done right see review of Dragon King Daughter's.

Gps took us to this restaurant. Apparently there are a couple of Osaka's in Louisville. The other one should be the good one because this one sucked. Poor service. Very rigid server, she was the only one. A small pot of green tea is $1.50, if you ask for an extra cup, they will charge you for every cup. I asked for two extra cups, so we were billed $4.50 total for one same small pot we had to share. Server didn't refill our tea. Calamari was below average. OMG, the rolls are miniscule in size, you can barely see the fish, for 8 bucks a roll it was very disappointing. The place was dead considering it's a Friday night, that was a sign we missed. If you are a true sushi lover, do not eat here, or you are wasting your money.

We are not from Louisville and thought trying sushi downtown would be safe. The food was horrible, worst I have ever had. Nothing looked fresh, the food was bland, it was super expensive, and the waiter was bad. Don't go!

The food is over-priced, the servings too small, and the service very slow. I ordered chicken teriyaki, received a razor-thin chicken breast half-chopped and tossed together with a couple florets of broccoli, a couple of undercooked carrots, and a few strips of potato (??). Aside from the fact that this doesn't even resemble Japanese cuisine, it simply wasn't any good. I could have stayed home and prepared this for 1/5 of the price. Look elsewhere, please.

Not bad for a lunch deal. Mondays and Tuesdays are BOGO sushi, so can't complain there. Though I think the rolls are a little overpriced for what you get anyway, so BOGO makes the price right. I had the munch roll and orange salmon roll and both were really good. Service was a little slow, which was strange as they weren't very crowded, but they made sure to keep our drinks refilled and check on us.

I've had take out from Osaka and it was pretty good. Today before taking my business elsewhere, I attempted to get ahold of Osaka as soon as the opened at 4 and a few minutes after the scheduled opening time. No one answered, but we stopped in anyways and I guess whoever was supposed to be managing the store wasn't there on time. It was very upsetting because we were looking forward to enjoying some sushi and Bendoya was already closed. I don't know if I can continue to go there if they can't abide by their own schedule. It sort of shows a lack of discipline, which is upsetting because Osaka has a lot of potential. Maybe if I stop in sometime this month and it's better and the service is good, I'll re-evaluate my review.

My friends and I eat at the Frankfort Ave location often and decided to give this location a try. We went right at 11 and got seated right away. We gave our drink orders and then ordered our food. I ordered one roll and was delighted to be informed that Monday and Tuesdays are "Buy One Roll, Get One Free!". (Also, Wednesday and Thursday specials are $1 Nigiri Sushi specials and Chicken Teriyaki or Chicken Kutsu for $6.95.) The food was the same as the Frankfort Ave location and was great. My Ginger salad was good and the Mushroom Broth soup was a little darker and more flavorful than usual (but I liked it!). I will say one of the servers was a little less friendly than the others so some other reviewers may have had that server. We had everyone check on us as we needed things so it was not an issue. We had no issues with the food or service on this visit.

The BOGO lunch special is hardly a deal, given that unimpressive rolls are overpriced to begin with. I'll take quality and fair pricing over a gimmick anytime, and look elsewhere for a decent sushi downtown.

Tried to go for lunch today at 1:30 pm. When we were greeted we were told they closed at 2 so we would not be served. Huh?? We were more than happy to go to Bazo's next door. The employees at Bazo's were happy to serve us.

Not bad, not bad at all. Located very conveniently in an area that has plenty of restaurants and bars, Osaka was an easy walk from my hotel. Next time I go to a sushi restaurant, I'll have to see if what I saw on the menu is normal...there were no less than 25 different rolls offered, and all but two had crab (krab?) as one of the ingredients. Is imitation crab sort of a roll-filler like broccoli is for Chinese food? I'll have to see. When I walked in to the establishment, the hostess spied me from the kitchen and actually began to jog over to seat me. So unnecessary, but a very sweet gesture. Service was very friendly throughout the evening, and the fish was very fresh. I had my normal sashimi fix, and added a roll (one of the rolls without krab) called "Triple Tuna". It consisted of tuna, white tuna and spicy tuna. Excellent, and highly recommended! Next time I'm in Louisville I wouldn't hesitate to come back here.

I go here often for the Friday lunch special (buy one roll get one free). The sushi is decent enough for lunch, but I would go elsewhere if you are looking for dinner. The ginger dressing that comes with the house salad is often watered down. And forget about getting a drink refill.

This place was my little sanctuary when I was at the convention center for a week. Fast service, pretty good food. Lots of specials and a Groupon, too. The sushi is on the small side compared to what I used to. Still, I like this place a lot.

i really should have heeded the reviews of this place. i have never seen a smaller, more pathetic sushi roll in my life. i had the rainbow roll and there was hardly any sashimi on top of my roll. do NOT eat here unless you're getting a 2 for 1 deal, and even then be prepared for disappointment.

Delicious! We ordered the Spider Roll, Volcano Roll, Lobster Roll! Miso soup was delicious and perfectly warm and the ginger salad dressing was one of the best I have ever had!!! Will definitely return when back in Louisville!
