Its hard for me to give a 3 rating when they have a gluten free pizza option....but I will tell you why I rated them low. 1. We went at opening time on a saturday-11AM, you would think when you are the only people in the restaurant service would be quick and efficient. Not so much the case here. 2. I was starving and would have loved an appetizer-no gluten free options for appetizers. Sad face... 3. We order the gluten free meat lovers pizza. It came out in about the normal time a gluten free pizza should-the problem was, and I know other gluten free'rs will say the same thing about GF pizza, the crust was soggy. It was not cooked long enough it still had the raw texture and taste to it. Biggest disappointment when you are wanting something certain and it doesn't turn out the way you thought it should. On a positive side they have many gluten free beer options!!! Cider and the GF beer and its priced very decently. We would go back for the drinks.

I visited Mellow Mushroom recently with a large group (20+) that included two gluten-free diners. Here are the pro's and con's that we encountered: Pro's: -Availability of a party room -Huge open windows through which to enjoy the summer breeze -Amazing chicken wings with just the right balance of crispiness and juiciness -Gluten free pizza and beer -Most of the food was delicious -Staff was very friendly Cons: -The food took a really long time to come even after adjusting our expectations to account for party size -One of the pizzas was initially forgotten and came at least 10 minutes after the others -The gluten-free eaters thought that their gluten free pizzas were mediocre at best. The rest of us thought the gluten free items tasted terrible. -They were out of several of the beers that were listed on their menu and didn't carry several other standards. -Very limited parking. Overall this was an A-OK (3 star) meal. However, several members of the party mentioned during the meal that Coals was just down the street and tasted better.

This place tastes amazing. I love how you can make your pizza one half one thing and the other half another set of toppings. I haven't tasted something I haven't loved! I mean, even the salads are amazing! The only thing I would work on is that late night servers tend to rush you while day time servers tend to take to much time getting you the check. All in all I think this is a pretty great place to eat! It's hard to give pizza a new spin and somehow they have achieved this goal with success!

Mellow Mushroom... Averaging out at 3 stars. The pizza is interesting. The specialty zas are the only reason this place should exist. Well done on blending many pizza variations, toppings, and sauces. Some are better than others obviously- but they are all creatively designed. Good job. The name is the most misleading of all. A more suiting name would be "crazy- madhouse- give me a headache mushroom." The place is all but mellow. Before heading to MM, you should prep yourself for an hour wait ( with no waiting area), an environment that seems to combine a sports bar and a chuck-e-cheese (minus the games), and a roar of battling screams and loud voices. Again... not mellow. My recommendation is to call in a to-go order and thank me when you pick it up realizing you just dodged a migraine!

The first time I went to Mellow Mushroom, I got carry-out for dinner. We did half pepperoni and half Bayou Bleu (Spicy bleu cheese base topped with all natural grilled shrimp and Andouille sausage covered in mozzarella cheese and garnished with chives - I shamelessly grabbed the description from their website). I was very impressed with the pizza, especially the Bayou Bleu. The crust is delicious too; often, I toss the edge out after eating the rest of the slice but the edges of this pizza were brushed with butter or olive oil and possibly garlic so it was a snack by itself. After I'd sated myself for the night, I put away the edges for a late night snack. A week or so later, we went to Mellow Mushroom for dinner. My wife ordered Sausage and Pepperoni personal pizza while I got a medium pizza with half Bayou Bleu and half Buffalo Chicken. When my order came out, they had accidentally made it half BBQ chicken instead of Buffalo chicken. Our server was great - she apologized for the mix-up, told me to keep the BBQ chicken while she put an order in for the Buffalo chicken. The manager came out later, gave me a gift certificate for future use and comped one of the pizzas. I wasn't overly bothered by the mix-up because that sort of thing happens but the way they handled it made me a big fan of this place. Great pizza place with lots of options, excellent service and a huge dining area.

Fabulous pizza. The crust is super soft. Although I do admit the crust underneath the toppings does get soggy if you don't eat it right away but still tastes great even then. Furthermore the draft selection is fantastic. They have several beers as well as a couple ciders. Most notably seasonal flavors from Ciderboys, Shelbyville location offers peach while Bardstown offers pineapple. Better yet the prices aren't ridiculous and some drafts are available as pitchers. Great place to take a group any day of the week. Happy hour is 3-6pm!

Mellow Mushroom has become our go to group spot. Maybe its the space, the tvs, or the ability to accommodate, but it is definitely the spot. On this particular weekend, we had tried to call the Mellow Mushroom in the Highlands to see if we could get a reservation or call head for a table since our group activity was closer to this location. The Highlands Mellow Mushroom basically told us they had no space for our group so we ended up in St. Matthews instead. With that in mind, we were already grateful to have our group accommodated at our old faithful Mellow Mushroom. Our orders were taken in a timely manner, our drinks arrived at the table, our food was hot and delicious, yet it was just some of the service that was lacking. Our waitress was very sweet, though, it seems they were not the most prepared for our group. When our first order of pretzels came out, we realized that none of us had silverware, or plates. Another waiter assisted our waitress, realized we didn't have plates and brought some. He left them on the other table, rather than passing them out. Oddly, the same thing happened with our silverware. Thankfully two members of our party noticed that this happened on both occasions and passed out the silverware and plates respectively. If this hadn't happened twice- with the plates and the silverware, I feel like I would give it a pass but this has never happened with our groups before at this Mellow Mushroom, so it was just hard to digest. At least the food was delicious. Fingers crossed we don't have to pass out own silverware at the next visit.

I came in on a Thursday afternoon for a couple drinks and a quick bite to eat. I wasn't feeling beer so I ordered the Hello Mellow Mezcal from their drink menu. What I got was some sort of sour mixture, so I asked for an extra shot of mezcal from the bartender. I was absolutely shocked when she brought me a shot of champagne. This is a drink on their menu, how as a bartender do you not know what mezcal is or how to make a signature drinks? Once I explained to her what mezcal was she brought me back another drink, which still had no mezcal in it. I assume it was just a margarita with bitters. My boyfriend ordered a featured pizza called the Pineapple Express. It was supposed to have ham, pineapples, jalapeños, ect. ect. What he got was a pineapple and cheese pizza. I don't understand how anyone working there would think that a specialty pizza would feature one item. It was a slower Thursday afternoon, so maybe they didn't have their A team working, but still it's baffling to me that their employees don't know items on their own menu.

Drive by this place all the time but today I had a hankering for a hoagie so decided to finally give this place a try. The entire building is lined with garage doors so on nice days like today they open them all and make the entire place open air. Ordered the turkey and bacon hoagie and was not disappointed. My girlfriend got a pesto based mushroom pizza which I sampled and was also delicious. Service was great and all the employees seem generally happy about working here and providing a great experience. We'll definitely be coming back to try all the other things on the extensive and unique menu.

My pizza was really good. I got the south of the border with chicken and jalapeños. I love the crust here. We also got pretzels and they were great. Carb overload

Mellow Mushroom is a solid choice for a pizza chain. While it's not my favorite pizza in Louisville, it definitely beats a lot of places. The pizza is high quality and tastes great. The crust throughout the base of the pizza is average thickness, then fluffs out to doughy goodness along the edges. Usually, I can take or leave the outer crust of a pizza, but I actually enjoy Mellow Mushroom's crust. It's covered in garlic butter and parmesan cheese, and is perfect for dunking in sauce. They use an average amount of sauce on the pizza, which is fine. While I prefer my pizza to be a little sauce-heavy, I'm happy with pizza that's not bone dry. The toppings are fresh and plentiful. The menu provides a large amount of specialty pizza options, as well as appetizers, salads, calzones, sandwiches, etc. I've tried several pizza options, with my favorites being the house special and the buffalo chicken pizza. Everything I've had has tasted good. At $25 for a large pizza, the prices seem to be high. I expect to pay extra for fresh, unique, handcrafted pizza, but feel Mellow Mushroom's pizza is more like $20. Mellow Mushroom has a good draft beer selection, which makes it a good hang out. The vibe is very laid-back and comfortable. On warm days, the large garage doors are open to the outside. The decor is psychedelic and hippy-like. Overall, the atmosphere makes you want to kick back and hang out with a beer. Speaking of kicking back, I should note that Mellow Mushroom isn't the best choice if you're in a hurry or want a quick meal. Yes, the service can be pretty slow. I understand it takes awhile to cook a pizza, but it seems to take longer than average here. If you're aware of this ahead of time, and don't mind relaxing with a beer and good conversation while you wait for your food, it's no big deal. Only once was the wait unacceptable (an hour and half from the time we ordered until our pizza arrived). This was the result of our server forgetting to put in our order. However, the manager remedied the situation by comping our pizza and providing us a coupon for the future. Mellow Mushroom is a solid choice. On one hand, it's a chain that sells slightly overpriced pizza with slightly slow service. However, it's a chain that does things right. They use quality, fresh ingredients; their menu is creative; and their pizza tastes good. They have an excellent beer list and a fun atmosphere.

This place has a pretty good draft beer list as well as some yummy food. I always find the servers to be pretty friendly too. I had the house calzone tonight and it was delicious! I was in the mood for something warm and filling and it surpassed that. I have to say that the pizza dough here is unlike any other dough in town. Its slightly sweet and chewy in texter, with a darker, almost golden yellow appearance. It's a good thing. They have trivia on wednesdays, apparently and had a large crowd come out for that. The service was still attentive even with the extra business. I usually would not give high marks to a chain/non-local restaurant but this one is an exception. Not my favorite pizza joint in town but definitely worth a try if you haven't been.

Great beer selection, friendly "mellow" service to match the attitude of the restaurant and delicious food that can be counted on. Good for groups, drinks or casual dinner. Favorites are the pretzels, half sized hoagies, and the holy shiitake pizza!

Have been here twice in the past month and have to say that it was truly excellent each time. The first time I came with a big group for dinner before our holiday work party. I was a huge fan of the Mellow in Nashville and curious to see how this one matched up. Most people in the group hadn't been before, but everyone left happy. The waitstaff was very accommodating to our group and also patient when several from our party took a while to get there. We got several different pizzas, and they were all fabulous. I was really excited to get back to my old favorite--the Holy Shiitake. It was just as excellent as I remembered, and I got it again last night. I was also excited to get back to the excellent beer menu here that I loved in grad school. In December, I got the Snake Bite but with a stronger seasonal cider than the Woodchuck, based on the server's suggestion. It was really excellent. Then yesterday, the server recommended his favorite brew to me: the Left Hand Sawtooth ESB. I was floored by how good it was, as were my friends who tried it. The manager brought out an extra stuffed mushroom to our table, saying that the first one had seemed a bit small, so we all got to sample it. Overall, really excellent customer service, brews, and food on both recent trips. Look forward to coming back.

The 420 theme should only be taken so far. Sure its' kinda funny but when your server is orbiting Pluto it takes away from your dining experience. Food was just alright but slow. Drink refills (even water) should be automatic and not something that the server needs to ask you about. The appetizers shouldn't take as long as the main course to get to your table. Overall: tolerable food but annoying service.

Meh. That sums up my two experiences at Mellow Mushroom. This last time we ordered a large (I think 20 inch) Kosmic Karma. For 25 dollars I was expecting a little more. The middle of the pizza was quite soggy. Fortunately I learned a good trick from my buddy chef john to crisp up pizza bottoms in a skillet on the stove top. I'm actually going to post a link to the method at the bottom because it's so good and hopefully not against the rules of this site. Other than the soggy bottom the pizza was ok enough. It's pizza so really it can't be that bad. Just lacking in flavour despite a lot of toppings that should have been quite flavourful. As promised never eat soggy bottom pizza again! Works great for pizza right out of the box or leftovers! youtube.com/watch?v=XWIJ…

Trendy and overpriced. Subs are very expensive and anything "extra" isjust that, extra. Pizzas cost a lot. I can get better ones at DiOrio's and other local places that are not only better, but cheaper. I only give them two stars due to good customer service and a great beer selection.

The pretzels with beer cheese and mustard are delicious. I always get the Holy shitake and it's consistently perfect. I always say I'm gonna try something else, but I don't. The wait is forever, so bring someone or some people who you need to catch up with or enjoy talking to... A lot. You will be waiting for a long time, even if they're slow. They removed my favorite drink from the menu over a year ago and I'm allergic to beer. Can't comment on that part of the experience. My favorite drink was a vodka, egg white and jalapeño, lime mixture that rocked my world but they took it off. Bummer. There used to be a cool assistant manager there who would make it for me by request after it was removed, but I think he's gone. Anyway, I digress, the Holy shitake is a spiritual experience. The wait? Not so much.

I've had pizza here before, which is great, although the toppings don't tend to be consistent in quantity. Today I went for the soup and salad. Mellow mushroom sounded like the place to try mushroom soup on a cold day! I would def recommend it! Salad was good too, but I could have gone for seconds on the soup. Service was great, tho' I might mention we're bar sitters. I find you always get you get your best service when you can look them in the eye and they don't have as far to run!

I ordered the pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni is spicy and the pizza is nothing special. It's definitely overpriced. I would rather spend five dollars at Caesars for the same size pizza.

I have been eating pizza ALL my life! And this is the most amazing place I have EVER eaten at! Gluten free pizza is a treat for us that are gluten intolerant! This pizza is THE MOST amazing GLUTEN FREE CRUST I HAVE EVER HAD!! Real bacon real mushrooms real EVERYTHING!!! We are passing thought; but we will never forget this place thank you John for the sincere hospitality! If or when we come back through Louisville THIS WILL BE OUR STOP! If you eat gluten free YOU HAVE TO STOP AND EAT HERE!!!

Mmmm...Mellow Mushroom. I'm giving this place a 4 star review because of the variety and quality of the pizza here. I am basing this review solely on the pizza and beer because that's what I come here for (duh!) I really love the Magical Mystery Tour pizza with mushrooms, feta, jalepenos and spinach. Their crust is nice and chewy and cheesy and just yummy! They also have a great rotating selection of craft beers both on tap and in a bottle. I have been here a few times and it's always been a treat.!

Just spent over 2 hours at a "quick"lunch. The service was interminable, the orders were incorrect, and some of the food was lukewarm. We were a group of 8 in a semi deserted restaurant. There was no excuse for such poor service. Very dissapointed.

I love this place! Fun atmosphere, excellent food, great selection of draft beers (and ciders) and a friendly staff. They thought a few things through. For example, they have an island bar surrounded by large-screens which is much more social and gives you multiple t.v. angles for games. During nice weather windowed-garage doors open up along the entire street-side of the restaurant. And the food... Nicely done! Pizzas are amazing, and they have gluten-free options. Appetizers favorites; Pretzels, Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms and Magic Mushroom Soup. A visit to this place just makes me feel better... and that's worth the price of admission!

I have heard about Mellow Mushroom for years and finally got to try it on a family roadtrip to Louisville. I am always excited to try new vegan pizza! I am also grateful for vegan options anywhere but this vegan pizza was nothing spectacular or unique unfortunately. Daiya cheese, crust and sauce were okay and only tempeh or tofu protein options. (I might just be spoiled b/c I live in Chicago) The beer selection was okay, we all tried local Bluegrass brewing company beers but weren't too impressed. However, my parents (carnivores) really loved their pizza. And the staff was INCREDIBLY friendly! The manager came over and talked to us about what to do while in Louisville, super nice people!

Well....... I don't know. Happy hour deals were really pretty good after 9, but the rest of the experience was disappointing. The bartender was initially attentive, but after about 10 minutes it was apparent he was just ready to leave (understandable, I've worked in restaurant service). My fiancé ordered a beer and never got it until another bartender asked if we needed something, and when we got the tab were charged for two even though he only received one. The mega veggie pizza we got to go was missing toppings listed on menu and we asked for two sides of the house dressing as recommended on line and did not get them. We would maybe go back for drinks only, but the overall service sucked.

Stick with Pizza and Beer and you'll be OK PROs- Bartenders, Beer Selection, Pizza Quality CONs- All other food, Pizza price, keeping beer list updated Great beer list but they frequently run out of something, don't change the board, and even the server doesn't know until they come back 5-10 min later and say "we're out of that". I'm not always in the mood for a whole pizza (unless splitting with friends) and almost everything else on the menu is not good. Calzones are small, doughy, few ingredients. Sandwiches are also mostly bread. Wings are OK but overpriced. I have a beer card but on 3 occasions in a row now they have not posted credit for the correct # of beers (due to not wanting a delay, I only mentioned it once - to which I was told I could get it corrected on my next visit- HUH?) Good place to sit and have a cpl of unique beers but there are better pizza choices in the area (Coals, DiOrios...)

The place has great vibe. Love it when they open the garage doors in front and let the fresh breezes in. Best pizza in town. Service is always good. Good kids menu for my eight year old that Is not a fan of pizza. Draft Beer selection is large with many local beers on tap and rotates with the season. We are regulars and always enjoy our visit.

Love this place. The crust on their pizza is one of my favorites. Lots of pizza options and they have a huge beer selection. I recommend the Funky Q (BBQ chicken pizza). The music they play at this location is awesome. Sometimes it seems like they are literally playing music right off of my iPod. And you can't beat $10 bottomless mimosas on weekends before 2:00.

Customer service has reached an all time low with this place. Hostess staff seems under the influence of sedatives and the wait staff evidently doesn't care much about taking an order....ever. We left after 10 minutes of this nonsense....didn't seem very promising that we would do anything but die of thirst and hunger in there. And yes, we alerted the highly unmotivated staff that we had been forgotten. Minutes, yes minutes, later, we gave up and left.

Would give a 4-star for the quality of the food, but a 2-star for the amount of time we had to wait to get the food. Once it came, the pizzas were great. But, it took over an hour from the time we ordered until we received the pizzas.

This place is really starting to stink. Mellow was the spot for so long but now I can't hardly stand to be here. Just ordered mushroom soup and got 1/4 of a bowl of soup and I told server the portion was smaller than normal. Server said "I know, management been cracking down on serving sizes lately especially with cheese". I'm done. I've been defending this place to my friends but now I'm seeing they are right. I'm not going back. Avoid this cheap place. Management won't allow them to serve full orders of food.

  • Gary T.

Each slice of pizza had one one small piece of either mushroom green olive or sausage. Hardly any toppings, felt like I was eating a plain cheese pizza. The server said it depends on who is cooking that night, sometimes piizas look good sometimes bad. Well news for you at mellow mushroom, you've lost my business for good.

A little over-hyped in my opinion. The spinach salad was really good - and huge. The Kosmic Karma pizza was decent when it was served. The leftovers weren't good the next day. I ended up tossing most of what I brought home. I think I spent close to $30 for dinner and I didn't even have a beer. I didn't think the quality lived up to the price point.

Holy Shiitake! This place is good! We started with the spinach dip, which is creamier than other ones I've had. It was delicious. But the main goal of our visit was the Holy Shiitake pizza. It was...amazing. I am a big BIG fan of white pizzas and this did not disappoint! I mean...it helps to like mushrooms...which I do! Service was good. And the actual restaurant is HUGE. It seems to go on forever...which was good last night as there was a Louisville game on all the TVs and we still had no problem getting a seat.

I love Mellow Mushroom. I'm so relieved that they made it to Louisville! That said, it's not a given that everything will be perfect. I went to this location on the 2nd or 3rd night after it opened. We were quickly seated but it took a while for a server to get to us. Then a second server tried to help us. I had hoped there would be a local blueberry beer or just a blueberry beer on tap, as is the case at all of the other MMs that I've been to. I was not that lucky though. I chose something else I've never had and enjoyed it. The pizza was top notch. It took a while to get the check. The decor is cool- as expected. Here's some bullets: * Fantastic beer selection- draft, bottle, and can * Vegan pizza options (Daiya cheese and tempeh) * Unique style that provides great ambiance- garage doors for windows = super cool * Friendly and ample staff but if they are slammed, be prepared to wait a little longer for everything * Pizza crust is very unique and a must try. It's fluffy, yeasty, a bit sweet and sort of a tan color rather than white. I think maybe they use a little molasses in the dough but I'm not sure. * Toppings are well thought out for house styles. Ingredients are high quality and well placed. I ordered the loaded baked potato pizza - it was incredible. The bacon was fairly lean and the red potatoes were cooked perfectly.

I have been here many times. I love the crust on their pizza. Their specialty pizzas are very good. My favorite is the Holy Shiitake. The beer selection is very good with a huge number of choices on draft. Most times we are there the service is excellent, although this last visit, it was not up to par. You completely forgot my beer order? Cardinal sin! That being said, I'll assume that is an exception rather than a trend until proven otherwise. It has good open window seating in warm weather. The only consistent negative for me is limited parking.

Not overrated! I had my doubts, as I usually do with chains, but I was very pleased with the place. Good service and amazing food. With a party of ten on a Friday night, getting a table anywhere can be difficult. There was a wait, but we kept ourselves entertained with the large selection of craft beers on tap. The hostess also did a great job of keeping us updated on our table and the remaining wait time. We were finally seated, and immediately were brought two plates of bruschetta from the manager along with an apology for the wait. Very attentive and thoughtful! Our waitress was obviously busy, but very kind and helpful. And more great beers along the way. My boyfriend and I decided to split the Magical Mystery Tour pizza because we kind of have a serious thing for pesto. Pesto based sauce and crust, mushrooms, feta, spinach, mozzarella, and jalapeños. I think I died and went to pizza heaven... The "magical" part in the title of this masterpiece was very appropriate. Great experience, great food. Will definitely be returning!

Let me first say that Mellow Mushroom's pizzas are tasty. Pricey, but tasty. It's that thick, doughy crust that you'll either love/hate. I've waited until my third time eating there to pass judgement. First time was in the restaurant, everything went smoothly. #2/#3 were carryout...orders botched both times. One time the manager bought us beers while we waited for the new pizza (it had already been a 45 minute wait). Next time, there wasn't an apology or discount. Sorry, guys, but there are a lot of local pizza joints in town with equally good pies who have already mastered the art of carryout coexisting with a dining room.

First time visiting this chain as we're new to Louisville. Highly recommended by some colleagues. Ordered the large Holy Shiitake for takeout. The flavors on this pizza were incredible, however... the crust is a little bit tough *and* everything was fine except the amount of mushrooms. Didn't encounter many of them (and that's a generous description). I guess, when I pay just under $27 for a large meatless pizza, I expect a shiitake load of mushrooms. I feel like I got the toppings that should have gone on small rather than a large. The grilled onions were perfectly sliced (super thin and short pieces and almost unnoticeable in texture, but were definitely present in the flavor). And the aioli drizzle, is wonderful! The only reason we'll be revisiting, is that they have some interesting flavor combinations that we'd like to try; and, the flavor of the pizza we had was pretty darn good! But our expectations will be a little different.

i have been here serveral times. they have some good waiters and some not so good. They have a guy that works at night named Taylor he is a great waiter. My frined likes to go here cause she like the beer selection, i k nothing about it. But they have something called IPA. They have triva night on wednesdays in the bar area so its pretty loud that night. but the other night are fine. the pizza is good and i like the meatbal and the spinache dip app.

I'm not a huge fan of pizza, not because I don't adore the plethora of winning flavor combinations, but because I LOVE pizza crust and it's not great for losing weight. This pizza crust was OUT OF THIS WORLD good! It's made with molasses and lends a touch of sweetness that really compliments the salty toppings. We ordered a large half barbeque chicken and half pesto something-or-other. Both were soooo good! Flavor profiles were just bursting in my mouth, especially with the pesto one (how I wish I could remember the name of it. It had pesto.) The seating is plentiful, the window seats are the best because you can watch all of the passers-by while indulging in such a wonderfully sinful food. YUM.

My husband and I ate here last weekend and it didn't disappoint as usual. We've rarely had a bad experience here. We look forward to the rotator beers but unfortunately the one we ordered was out. Never fear, they have plenty of other delicious beers to choose from. Dogfish 90 minute and Bells 2 hearted always delicious. For dinner we had the "unique to that location" pizza called Great Balls of Fire. It had pepperoni and meatballs and red pepper flakes plus lots of cheese. It was amazing. My husband is still talking about it and the meatballs which he says are like his moms. Our waitress Kelly was awesome. She checked on us just enough but not too much and was super sweet. The blonde manager always walks around checking on everyone and taking dirty dishes as she walks by which is really nice. She is always attentive and awesome when we go there. Mellow mushroom is easily one of our favorite pizza places. Keep up the good work!!

Pizza is not bad and they have a few apps there worth mentioning(meatballs and pretzel). Wings were good but overpriced at $1 each. Tried the red skin potato pizza, which just ok even though it sounded like something I would love. Place is usually busy, but for me it is a little pricey for what it is. The food is good not great and if you drink any beer even at happy hour you will be shocked when the bill comes. Usually we can eat, drink and watch a game for half the price it was here. If you charge close to $30 for a pizza it better blow my mind. Happy hour makes it a little better but still overpriced. I would rather watch the game at a local place, Diorio is right around the corner with equal food quality but better atmosphere and pricing.

We were very disappointed with this place. We went in for lunch and my husband ordered wings and I had the chicken mole pizza. After waiting about 15 minutes the waiter informed us that last night's staff had not thawed out the wings and they only had five. My husband said he'd just take the five then. After another 20 minutes (the place was nearly empty so we don't know what took so long), our food arrived. My pizza was mediocre and his wings were nasty. We also thought that maybe we would be comped the five wings since they were not able to fill the original order. But we were still charged full price for everything. An hour later my husband felt sick to his stomach from the wings, which made us wonder how long they had been left out. We won't be going back.

I guess you need to be "mellow" to appreciate the S L O W service in this place. It wasn't crowded. I don't know what the deal was but it took an hour to get our pretzels and 5 minutes later the pizza. The pretzels are not pretzels. They are pretzel shaped bread sticks. they were really hot but the pizza was cold. We weren't even hungry at that point. We did get our check quickly. it was $41.00. We waited to get change for a twenty..... 15 minutes later, still waiting we ended up leaving the server $44.00 because she wouldn't pick up the check so we could get change and TIP her. I found all the other cash I had and left it. I have never left a bad tip in my life. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Out in KC, we don't have a mellow mushroom, so when we see it places, we always love to visit. This was our first time at this location and it was a great experience! The place was very welcoming and clean and I wish I remember our servers name because she was amazing. It's not too often that you get that service that you really want to rave about and she was definitely it. Of course, the pizza was delicious too! We also got the bruschetta appetizer which is really flavorful, bright and fresh. I highly recommend giving it a try.

I'm so pleased that we have Mellow Mushroom in Louisville now, though I will say that I prefer the Blankenbaker location to this one. We came in well before closing on a slow Sunday night and stood at the host station for several minutes as employees walked by without saying a word to us. Eventually someone came by to seat us and asked us if the bar area was okay. Our waiter was attentive enough, but he certainly was unenthusiastic. I can understand though, and I can't complain about his service. We ordered beer cheese and pretzels (awesome) and my favorite, Kosmic Karma with ricotta. After we put in our order, someone came by to tell us they were out of ricotta. We still wanted the pizza, and it arrived a little while later. The food was good, and the beer selection was excellent. I was pleased to hit there during happy hour for $1 off drafts and our pretzels. I don't have really anything negative to say, but our experience was just okay at this location.

Wonderful pizza with many combinations available. I like the thick chewy crust that is made with spring water. All are hand made with fresh ingredients. Funky 1960's hippie vibe makes it fun. Wait staff are friendly. Downside is when ordering carryout- long waits for completion (sometimes as much as 45 mins). They will tell a time, but almost always it is longer and you're left standing around for a longer wait. They have occasional live bands, which is welcome, however one recently was extremely loud for the venue.

Vegan pizza!!!! blackhawks (when satellite was working) bursting at the seams at how full we were. we ordered greek salad minus the feta and dairy dressing. yummy vegan pizza was the veggie supreme with daiya instead of dairy. the crust was so good! the entire pizza was satisfyingly delicious. the pizza was supposed to come with tofu but it arrived sans. We mentioned it to our lovely waitress and she brought over a side of cooked tofu. it was completely without taste. still liked our dinner nevertheless.

Mellow mushroom my new favorite pizza. Great topping combinations and excellent crust. My favorite is the Holy Shitakie but the Maui wowie was also excellent. The service was very friendly and I loved how the manager came over to be sure we were having a great experience.

This place is a trumped up Papa Johns. I have only eaten here twice but it's the same old stuff. I guess the atmosphere and the "hip" name will float it for a bit. Good luck. Papa has deals during the early week.

My husband and I just discovered Mellow Mushroom last night when we were desperately looking for a place near the house to watch the Bears game. It's a really nice sports bar with a wonderful beer selection at very reasonable prices. Though we're not able to try the food, because we already had dinner, everything that I see coming out of the kitchen looked yummy. We'll have to come back next time and try their food out instead of stuffing ourselves with just plain beer. As if there is anything to complain about having only beer for an actual meal! :| Oh and service was great and fast, btw. Thanks to our server Leah! :) Will definitely recommend this place to friends and will most likely become one of our fave hangout bars.

Well, there's nothing like sitting down at a "freshly cleaned" table, and laying your phone down in a puddle of water. Then we ordered the pretzel appetizers, and 5 minutes later ordered a pizza, 15 minutes later the pretzels and the pizza show up at the same time. All in all the pizza was greasy and Unremarkable, I will pass, won't be back

I have come to understand that a rating isn't just based on the food alone...I added a star for the fact that this place is GREAT! The support they give the community (Supporting local Non-For Profit) and the overall customer service I get!!! You will not be disappointed, and if you are...they will correct it!!!

Their pizza really is top notch. I don't know what it is, but they make a damn good pie. Only complaint, it's rather pricey. Honestly, I would take Boomboz over Mellow any day of the week, especially when considering the price difference.

I was SHOCKED to find out this place was a chain. The environment of the restaurant was really laid back and eclectic - definitely not something I'd expect of a chain. Also, the food was awesome. I'm usually a traditionalist when it comes to pizza - I like Italian cheeses and toppings. Mellow Mushroom might make a convert out of me, though. We got the Thai Dye pizza and it was one of the best pizzas I've had in awhile. The curried added a really rich flavor that was perfectly balanced by the sweet Thai basil and tangy sweet chili sauce. And don't get me started on the crust. Pretzel crust for pizza? Genius. I could eat just the plain crust all day (dipped in the beer cheese) and be happy. Whatever you do, get the pretzels and beer cheese to start. The beer cheese can be eaten with both the appetizer and the main course. I'll definitely be back to Mellow Mushroom -probably to watch a football game. The food is delish, they have a great beer selection, and a ton of huge TVs. All the ingredients for a great game day experience!

A group of old friends wanted to meet up here for dinner on a Saturday night. I had heard both good and bad things about the place but was interested in trying it and went prepared to make sure we had a good time. Wait times for tables can be up to an hour, so I got there 45 minutes early and put my name in for a table. By the time everyone made it, we had been seated. Service was fairly prompt and extremely cordial, especially considering that we had a few stragglers in our party. One friend who has been living in Denver for several years said she really enjoys MM; she has never gotten what she ordered, but enjoyed what she'd eaten. I have seen other reviews that said orders come out wrong, so I was also willing to work with that possibility and grateful for the numerous warnings. It's a good thing I was warned, because I ended up splitting a pizza with my friend and her kids. We asked for a pizza with 4 toppings, one of which was green olives. What we got was the 3 toppings we ordered and green peppers instead of olives, even though the ticket said olives on it, not peppers. I've worked in a pizza kitchen before and I know it's easy to get these confused, so I learned pretty quickly to always double check when the orders come in. I don't like cooked green peppers, but rather than make a stink, I just picked them off my pieces. My friend asked for a side of olives so she could have some olives on her pizza. We are very kind and accommodating people most of the time. The olives were also removed from our ticket and we weren't charged for them, which was nice and responsible. Despite the mistakes, it was a pretty pleasant evening and the food was mostly edible. If getting orders wrong is a cute little quirk they intend to be part of their business personality, they need to let the public know. If I order a pie without mushrooms because I'm allergic to them and I get mushrooms on my pie, this is a major problem! As it was, I just got something I didn't like. My two star rating is partly because I don't understand the hype around this place. It is a busy sports bar/restaurant with a kitschy hippie theme. The food wasn't very exciting and the atmosphere was loud and annoying outside the little side room where my group was (thankfully) seated. There are much better places in town to get pizza. Spinelli's and New Albanian/Sportstime would be my first choices before trying MM again. For people on vegan and/or gluten free diets, I can see this being an exciting option, but for those of us who enjoy and/or can tolerate meat and bread, it's an unnecessary deprivation when really good food can be found elsewhere. Also, maybe it's stated all over the place and I just never saw it, but everything is made with whole wheat dough. EVERYTHING. This could be a pro or a con, depending on your attitude, but it's a good thing to know. There is no designated parking that I could find except the 5-7 spots on the street in front. I deliberately parked in the lot for St. Matthews Station which explicitly stated that Mellow Mushroom customers would be towed. All my friends parked there, too. Fortunately, our cars were still there when we left. Even that was farther than I would have wanted to walk, considering my handicapped status, but I was having a good night and was able to make the hike. Also, it was Saturday and the last time I checked I am not royalty and don't get special parking privileges beyond those afforded me by my handicap tag. Parking is always an issue for me. Overall, it was a mediocre experience and if my friends insisted we go there again I would out of love for them, but not without trying to convince them to go somewhere else first.

I've visited the Mellow Mushroom in Lexington before trying the ones in Louisville and the quality is comparable. I was a bit disappointed that the pizza I normally get is ~$3 more expensive in Louisville. There were things about my visit that were worth the price. Always in Lexington we have to wait around 20 minutes for a table. However, in Louisville even though it looked really busy there was enough seating that we were seated immediately and it wasn't extremely loud. Our server was prompt and helpful. We tried the spinach dip which was delicious, the beer was good, and of course the pizza was delicious!

I ate here a few weeks ago with a group of friends on a Saturday. We started with the bruschetta, which was very good. I had a side salad which was unfortunately typical of many pizza joints (iceberg lettuce, blah dressing, not worth having). Although my husband enjoyed his field greens salad. But who are we kidding, you came for the pizza right? And it doesn't disappoint! We split the Kosmic Karma (with pesto, my favorite) and the house special, great for the meat lovers. They also have a fantastic beer selection! The only downside is they don't post the drink prices on the beer menu, and the beer is a bit pricey ($7-$8). The pizza is also a bit on the pricey side, $20-$25 for a large. But honestly, this is some of the best pizza in town in my opinion!

Let me preface this by stating i have eaten this chain before and am fond of the food. My wife and I went to the mellow mushroom on 10/15/12 at approximately 8:45. After being seated and provided our menus we sat idly for over 30 minutes before my wife and I left. In a restaurant that was under a third full we were surprised to see so many waiters abuzz and have no interaction with one ourselves. We were not greeted by a server, we were not given water, and we weren't provided the opportunity to order food or drink. This was a horrible experience.

Great pizza, great atmosphere! Great IPA'S on tap and very knowledgeable on the brews!

Trendy and overpriced. Subs are very expensive and anything "extra" isjust that, extra. Pizzas cost a lot. I can get better ones at DiOrio's and other local places that are not only better, but cheaper. I only give them two stars due to good customer service and a great beer selection.

I got a takeout taxi groupon and I figured what better time to try Mellow Mushroom since apparently it's impossible to get in the door. It was just okay and it cost alot. Rather go to Bearnos or Wicks.

  • Stephanie M.

Excellent hand crafted pizzas, big selection if beers in the bottle or on draft. Came for a late lunch, almost empty but had great service.

This place is a trumped up Papa Johns. I have only eaten here twice but it's the same old stuff. I guess the atmosphere and the "hip" name will float it for a bit. Good luck. Papa has deals during the early week.
