I came here with a friend of mine yesterday to see if their Cuban food was any good. Since I'm from Cuba I can call myself an expert on this haha. Well as soon as we walked in the place everyone looked at us all the way until we sat down and it felt a bit uncomfortable. I know this from first hand experience that Cubans tend to look at anyone when they walk in no matter where they are its just one of those cultural things that I guess I've grown out of. My expectations were high for this place and I was disappointed. After we ordered our waitress kept coming back to ask us what we had ordered and it just seemed like she wasn't sure even after writing it down. After several minutes our food came. I had bread with croquettes ham (pan con croquetas de jamon) tomato and lettuce. Croquettes (kinda like egg rolls) are food rolls usually made with ham, but other meats can be used. It was 4.99 and the size of the bread was about a 6 inch just like subway. My friend had a sirloin steak dinner, included rice and smashed plantains and salad. The steak was big but it wasn't thick enough. I was kinda disappointed of the amount of food of that dinner plate for $15. My croquette "sub" was decent. There was plenty of ham but the lettuce was just a big stem piece and I didn't like that. There's also a bar here and the beers are $2. All in all I think this place could do better when it comes to their food quality and quantity. There's probably a couple other Cuban restaurants here in Louisville that are better but you can get some cheap beer here.

Very good for, prompt service. Not 5 stars because of the atmosphere. Could be more authentic.

The three of us stopped in for lunch one Saturday morning -- shopping at Ross is hard work, and the girls wanted to go in prepared. We're not big eaters, so we got two of their chicken dishes (with white rice and fried plantains) and an extra plate for yours truly. When the food arrived, we were a little disappointed to find that the chicken quarters were smaller than expected. However, they were cooked to perfection and unexpectedly filling. I ordered an extra Cuban sandwich (a special, and at five bucks, a steal), and that was both delightful and enormous. I only ate half. On the way back home we got another Cuban sandwich to go, and that was supper taken care of as well. Highly recommended. Just make the chicken portions a little bigger and that fifth star is a given.

This place was great. I love Cuban food to the point of having Cuban almost every day when I visit Miami and you get great food here for a fraction of the price. First, all beers are $2. They also give you a frosty mug with each beer. Incredible! It is in an out lot of a shopping center, so it is a bit difficult to find, but well worth it.

Worst meal I have had in forever. I got the Red Snapper. It was fish jerky, way overcooked. The fish and green plantains had zero flavor and seasoning. Waitress was friendly and apologetic. They were out of many items on the menu.

Showed up at the restaurant a bit close to their closing time, but they were accommodating and fulfilled me and my girlfriend's order as they could. The trip was mainly spurred by hunger from watching Favreau's movie Chef. I ordered the media luna sandwich while my girlfriend got the normal cubano. Ordered a ground beef and a cheese only empanadas for appetizer. Also ordered a black bean rice to share between the two of us. The empanadas were fantastically crispy and flavorful, there was some slight unevenness in cheese distribution in the cheese empenada, but overall still good. Onto the main stars of the dinner the sandwiches. The size of the sandwiches were enough to be a meal by themselves for one person. Me and the girlfriend traded 1/2 sandwiches with each other so we could try both. Both had perfectly toasted crispy bread surfaces. The regular cubano was great, good balance of the ham, melted gooey cheese, and sliver of pickles. The media luna takes that basic cubano foundation and has the addition of grilled pork pieces, which makes it even better. Would definitely stop by for sandwiches if I am in the area again. The beans and rice dish was enough to serve 3-4 individiuals if you have other dishes to accompany it. This dish I would also highly recommend because it was a very good representation of Cuban food (as with the sandwiches) and El Sabor definitely made it correct. Only downside to this restaurant is how far they are located from where I live and their relative short hours, but it is worth the effort in trying to go. Will take whatever friends I have in town to El Sabor for sure.

I went here with my family last night and we all enjoyed ourselves. The food is inexpensive and tasty, but they seemed understaffed as one waitress appeared to be taking care of everyone. There also seemed to be a cleaning/chemical smell in the air that was sort of bothersome. Given that the food seemed authentic and was very cheap, I definitely think its worth a return visit though.

We finally found a Cuban resteraunt that compares or is better than the ones in Miami and Key West. This Cubano is by far the best! Ate so much and still took a meal home! Great place hidden away. I'll be telling everyone I know a and bringing everyone I can!

Very good! Everything was excellent and the portions were just right. It has a tiny sign, so it's kind of hard to find It's right next to the Speedy Lube, in the same building as the Twisted Scissors salon.

Muy delicioso. The staff was very friendly and the food was amazing and well-priced. All beer is $2! I had the Cuban sandwich. It was fabulous and enough for two meals. We had the sweet plantains for dessert. They were the best I'd ever had and I lived in Central America and have visited other Latin American countries. This is one of my new favorite restaurants.

This review is long overdue. I've been sitting on it waiting for some type of divine inspiration. Fact is, reviews are for more difficult to write when it's just me on these little day trips, harder to gauge my response without someone to bounce a few flavors off of . But here goes... El Sabor is about as true to the little family Cuban restaurant as you're going to get this far from Miami. Small place far from the regular foodie path, out in Okolona, just off Outer Loop, travel a little further east of J-Mall and you're headed in the right direction. All the food is solid and it's a great spot to drop in for lunch on a weekday or weekend. Definitely worth the few dollars you'll spend.

My husband and I live right around the corner and have been coming here on occasion for a year or so. This was the worst experience yet. Out of the past 5 times this was a 1 star experience. I'm not gonna tank them for this one off night. The media Luna is delicious, just make sure you bring some Spanish with you and an idea that you are stepping into this Cuban family's home. The food is never a disappointment but the service is meh. This off night the waitress forgot/ didn't realize that we ordered 2 meals and a side of platanos maduros. So once my ropa vieja and the platanos came out we waited for my husband's media Luna sandwich. 10 mins later he finally tells me to ask her about the sandwich, I did in Spanish. She didn't realize that he was ordering it too. so another 15 mins go by and they finally brought out his sandwich. Now I get that it was 40 mins til closing time when we got there, but no excuse for missing a person's order. We ate the delicious food and had flan for dessert and paid and left. We laughed because we knew this was an off night. We will be back but I will be ordering everything next time in Spanish!

Nice selection. Very casual restaurant. I had the quarter rotisserie chicken with black beans and rice, salad and fried plantains. The chicken was tender with very good flavor. We also were given a complimentary serving of something that I don't know the name of. It looked like a creamy macaroni salad, but it has shredded chicken in it and Cuban seasonings - yummy. Very reasonable prices. Friendly service.
