This is my wife's favorite place and for good reason. She's vegetarian and I'm a red white & blue meat eater and we both leave satisfied. Great drink specials and delicious food. Salsa may be the best in town

UPDATE: After our hospital and doctor visits, my wife called the restaurant to talk about the costs we've incurred. She was fully expecting a battle but, because of the experience we had, she was determined to fight that battle. To her surprise (and mine) she was greeted by the receptionist with pleasantness and relief. The woman who answered the phone told my wife that they were glad she called and were trying to get a hold of us. She said she was sorry for our experience and asked for my wife's contact information so the owner could call and talk with her. When the owner called my wife, she listened and was both sympathetic and apologetic. Everything you would have expected from the beginning. She also assured my wife that they would gladly cover any out of pocket expenses that we incurred. If this were the reaction we got from the beginning, you never would have read my original review. Bottom line, the owner has done her bit to restore our faith in humanity. If you're interested, little man is doing fine. He has a bit of a scar on his hand but, hey, it adds character!

If there was a way to rate this horrible place as a no star, I would really do it. Bland and tasteless. Service extraordinarily poor. Avoid and look elsewhere.

CHEESE DIP! I CRAVE this place when I'm away. Must get cheese dip again soon! The service is always outstanding. The atmosphere is OK. Gets kinda of loud, but well worth it for the quick service and outstanding cheese dip. ;) Tip - mix the hot and mild salsa (2 parts hot with 1 part mild) for a delightful burst of flavor!

I had high expectations of El Nopal given the numerous awards that it has won here in Louisville including the 2011 Leo Weekly Reader's Choice Award for Best Mexican Resaurant, but I was disappointed. The food, from the salsas to the entrees, is suprisingly bland for a Mexican restaurant. While they do offer bottles of hot sauce, I don't expect to have to season my own food at the table. Finally, the menu is stale and is likely the same as thousands of other Mexican restaurants throughout the country. As this restaurant has not defined itself in flavor or selection I am unlikely to make a return visit.

I love chili colorado and have a hard time finding it at some of the Mexican restaurants in Louisville, but they have it! It is pretty good, not the best I have had, but good. I also enjoyed the rice and beans and the salsas were nice too.The rest of the menu is pretty solid. The one disappointment for me was the fact that they don't serve horchata. If they will put this on the menu, I will be dining here more often. If you are sporting an authentic Mexican menu, horchata is a must!

Authentic fresh mexican food with good service and a nice atmosphere. We have tried many of the mexican restaurants around town and this has become our 'go-to' restaurant for quality mexican food. We love the unlimited chips and salsa and everything we have tried there has been good. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. They also have a full bar with delicious margaritas and great drink specials!

Had the tostadas today for dinner. It was very good to excellent. It did not come out at the level of spice I typically enjoy, but you can add your own heat. They have 3 kinds of salsa, including flourescent green (was this the invention of insane mexican prisoners?). I mixed regular salsa with the salsa verde. This combined with a drink came out $12. I was full with just that. The place is huge, with a nice ambiance. Service with fast and curteous. I would give it a higher rating - meaning I would be a fan, if it was closer to me.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
