We have been eating at this location for 10 years but the last 4 months it has been quickly going down hill. We usually visit twice a month but this will be our last visit. Not only has the food gone array but also the lack of caring by the staff about there guest. It was a good run but we will for sure be finding another Mexican restaurant too ar from now on!

So I have always had pretty good experience in this elnopal, yesterday a sign now reads.....after first bowl of salsa all other bowls .75 cents each. I find this disturbing to tell you the truth. I could understand this if it applied to someone who was NOT buying an entree. guy who seated us on the patio was rude, I ask how to get the umbrella up, he walked away, servers were not friendly yesterday for some reason. I guess I will find some where else for Mexican because I go through salsa too fast to be charged for it when I am getting an entree as well. And I dont like to feel like everyone is being rude acting like they are put out.

Ordered for pick up. The meal was ready waiting for me when I got there. The pacific chimichanga is to die for!!!! (if you like seafood) it's a huge deep fried burrito filled with crab meat scallops and shrimp smothered with white queso.. which everything was cooked to perfection and the shrimp was very juicy and plump. Even though it was to go the chips were still very warm and fresh by the time that I got home. The salsa is absolutely perfect and I always get extra queso because I'm a huge cheesehead. I would definitely go here again.

Unfortunately, this area of town has limited dining options, unless you want fast food... (I don't, plus it's not Weight Watchers friendly.) El Nopal offers a place to sit down and enjoy food with friends and family, and since it's a rarity in the area, I tend to end up here semi-frequently. I am personally loyal to El Tarasco across the street, since it was open first and I always loved the servers and people there... but alas, my friends seem to always want El Nopal. ANYWAYYY... it's pretty much your average Mexican food spot. It's obviously better than Taco Bell, and the fajitas (which I pretty much always order) hit the spot. Based on the reviews of my dining-mates, some dishes are consistently good, and some are hit-or-miss. Patrons receive free chips and salsa (hot and mild), which is always nice (unless you're watching what you eat). Service is generally decent, and they do offer a variety of seating. This El Nopal location a pretty good place for groups, between a back room, some large booths, and a patio. Not being biased because we share a name, but make sure you read Amanda M.'s review... you'll never look at the mural on the wall the same way again! No, it's not going to knock your socks off. Yes, I'll stay bitter about the lack of dining options in the area until something changes. Yes, this is a place to enjoy Mexican food with your friends... and I usually am here with at least eight friends when I visit. You will leave full. Try not to explode.

I am a regular at the location but I do not think I will be there again. It was Cinco de Mayo so they were very busy but that has not slowed them down before. I was promised a free t-shirt last week if I had dinner there that night but once I arrived and inquired about the shirt and was told I would have to buy it with no explanation as to why the change. The shirt is immaterial. What I do not like is to be promised one thing and something else happens. Bad business if you ask me. I may try them again but I seriously doubt it.

I have tried several of the El Nopal's in the area and they rarely a disappointment. However, this El Nopal stands above the rest as the best of the bunch. The food is always cooked to perfection. The draft beer is always cold and comes in a frosty glass. The mixed drinks are never watered down. Sometimes there is a mariachi band playing up front. Also, don't be surprised to see a birthday celebrator get a face full of whipped cream while wearing a giant sombrero. It is fully remodeled inside with all new tables, chairs and booths. The outdoor patio has had a facelift as well and is a great place to celebrate warm weather with a tasty beverage. Give it a try. You will want to become a regular.

My favorite restaurant on the planet. Just go. If you see me, say hi. I'll probably just wave back, because I am sure my mouth will be full.

This El Nopal is pretty much the same as every other El Nopal in the city. The husband and I usually frequent this particular location since it's literally blocks from our house. They are always friendly about my picky eating habits and let me customize menu items. However, there is a little gem in this El Nopal that isn't in the rest. It's special. If you are there, take a good long look at that mural of the Last Supper on the back wall along the row of booths. Look at each and every one of them. Is it me or is Joey Fatone staring back at you 10 times? They all look like Joey Fatone! Even the old guy! It's totally the Joey Fatone Last Supper! Staring at that painting throughout dinner makes the food taste even better.

Now this place has a special place in my heart. There are tons of El Nopals around Louisville. You're probably always within five miles of one -- well that may be an exaggeration. Back to the review. I've never been disappointed by any of my El Nopal experiences. The food is always great, drinks are huge, prices are beyond reasonable and the service is A plus! You can't beat that! I'm absolutely in LOVE with the spinach and mushroom quesadilla. The beautifully colored spinach makes you feel like you're eating semi-healthy -- despite the fact that it's loaded with ooey gooey cheese. At least it makes you feel good, right? The menu is loaded, so you're bound to find something that suits your fancy.

I live a block a way from this location and every time I drive by its usually ALWAYS packed! I come here every now and then and the food is always really good and hot! The last particular time I came, I was a part of a party of 10 in the back room/party room, and a party of 15 was sat at the other table next to ours. The other table was extremely loud and rude. Rude how? As we were celebrating my brother-in-laws birthday and came time to dessert, we started singing happy birthday to him. The other party JUST got their entrees and they started to sing happy birthday as well.. and said someone else's name in their group. Who does that? Rude! They were all standing up, talking & laughing as if no one else were in the room with them. Anyways, other than that the two servers working both our parties, only focused on the 15 top. Didn't bring out our appetizer, or refilled our drinks. They have a really big menu to choose from but the kids menu selection is really small and has only 4 item to choose from.. What about grilled chicken and vegetables or something? I'm still rating 4-stars because I still genuinely like the place other than that particular time.

The decor and atmosphere are just like walking into a restaurant in Mexico itself. The food is authentic with generous portions all at a very reasonable price.

I was surprised to learn that all the El Nopal's are not owned by the same people. I had been to one in Indiana and the menu is not the same. There are similar items but my favorite, the pacific chimichanga happens to be on the El Nopal on New Cut in Louisville. This is a huge deep fried burrito filled with shrimp, scallops and crab and topped with queso (sometimes I ask for the sour cream sauce). The chips are always fresh and warm and since I don't like a lot of "chunks" in my salsa, theirs is PERFECT, and unlimited. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. I am a picky eater so I special order almost everything everywhere and they didn't bat an eye when I asked for no beans, rice or garnish and sub with fries. They have excellent frozen strawberry margaritas and my boyfriend and I usually get a pitcher and share it! This place is always busy but you never seem to have to wait very long. Thumbs Up!!

I've been coming to this location since they opened. I have family in the area so since there's not a lot of options around here it's always our get together place. Plus, it's a great place anyway. The waiters are funny, on the ball and the food is great. The beer specials are great too. I think the margaritas are also, but I don't drink margaritas so I can't really comment on them. I see people loving them though everytime I'm there. I highly recommend this El Nopal.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
