This was or third or fourth visit. Everything was great, as always. Fresh chips and salsa promptly delivered to the table and very tasty fajitas. My wife loves the chicken burrito asada. Friendly service and great value margaritas.

Decent prices, OK food. They said their most popular dish is the chimichangas and the fajitas, so I went with the former. Be warned, they will try to drown it in gloppy cheese sauce, so you might want to ask for that on the side. Also I thought it was odd that you get rice OR beans. Like, just give me 1/2 as much of each plzz.

Nice atmosphere. Several tv screens and a good location with plenty of parking. The chips and salsa were very good. Fresh chips along with hot and mild salsa were brought to the table. Beer was cold. I ordered chili colorado. The waiter had seen me using the hot salsa dip and let me know the chili colorado wasn't very spicy and asked if i would like it "hotter". That was observant and considerate. Service overall was very good. The black beans were great and the rice was good as well. The only thing preventing me from giving five stars would be the lack of meat in the main dish. It was more chili than colorado or another way to put it - same dish at El Nopal gets you twice as much carne. Prices were reasonable and they have various happy hour and lunch specials.

I'm a Texas Mexican American and I liked this restaurant very much. I am so glad to have found this place. Now I would say while the Guacamole tasted great it was more of mashed up avocado. It wasn't the traditional guac with tomatoes, jalapenos, onion and cilantro that you can see. But I asked for a side of fresh jalapenos ($1) and it made it better. I also ordered the Queso Blanco (which i dropped some of the my side jalapeno into it) and it was fantastic. The Carne Asada tacos were great and they will serve them with onion and cilantro like you get in Mexico. The only issue is that the manager/owner is from Hidalgo and they use a heavy marinade. It was good but the meet was coated in this flavor which is was good but it depends on your preference. FLAN was pretty good. I hate that they add the whip cream and the jar maraschino cherry but it was tasty as well. All in All it was a great dinner. You can trust the taste and the fast service. I would definitely eat here again. Whether you like it spicy or bland they will accommodate you as long as you ask for it as I did.

El Caporal is in a chain food wasteland on the East side of Louisville near the Papa John's headquarters. It's probably the only 'Mexican' option outside of the Taco Bell/Long John Silvers/Pizza Hut/KFC-combo restaurant across the parking lot. El Caporal is a Louisville chain, but I guess you could also argue that the aforementioned fast food restaurants are too. The food is OK - probaby not A-OK but will suit your needs if you are needing a chicken enchilada fix. I have a suspicion that the chile relleno is made with a bell pepper and not a poblano. I asked my server about it and he said both 'bell' and 'poblano' in the same sentence. Prices are reasonable. Restaurant is clean. Food comes quickly.

Eating Mexican food in this place is like eating pig in a pig sty. You have no idea what's in it, and the taste isn't there. Just the mud. Not worth the trouble. The servers speak so little English they cannot answer the simple questions about the ingredients.

There aren't a lot of standout choices for Mexican food in the Louisville area. However, this place was a regular Friday night stop for my wife and I when we lived there. Of all the Mexican food choices in the area, El Caporal is one of the better places to get a taco fix. I particularly enjoyed the tacos de carne asada. The food isn't exactly fine, upscale cuisine. But if you're tired of "Mexican-inspired" fast food, give this place a try. I'd give 'em one more star if they'd put horchata on the menu.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
