I went in here with high expectations, I admit. Unfortunately while it wasn't completely terrible the food was really nothing incredible. The "Famous" Chili was about the worst I've ever had, though I admit it had some spice to it which I was starting to think just didn't happen in KY. The Brisket Sandwich I had was nothing to write home about. The bread was fairly tasty, but the Brisket itself was incredibly fatty, far more than brisket generally is if smoked long enough, and it seemed to lack much seasoning at all, depending instead on the huge glob of BBQ sauce it was drowning in to impart flavor. I admit, I'm partial to dry rubs - but I'm becoming used to and even appreciative of the 'wet' form, but this was nothing unusual. And however this place ended up with '2 $' signs I have no idea. Sure, some things are in that catagory, but I would seriously be surprised if someone (especially at 'supper') could walk out of here at less thatn 20.00 a person. The service was good. Quick and efficient though sometimes a bit 'pestering', but that can be excused as I suspect it was picked up on with my lack of satisfaction. It wasn't bad enough to 'send back', because it was very apparent this was how it was 'supposed to' taste. But, if you're looking for something other than atmosphere and maybe someone to hang with (good sized seating arrangements etc.) I would go somewhere else. The cornbread that came with the Chili was pretty darn good. I guess I should have stuck with bread products.

The fried okra and shrimp and grits are delicious! The Near Eastern Drink was also outstanding! This restaurant is first on my list next time we are in town!!

Go here, definitely. Spare ribs, brisket, pulled pork - all delicious. I don't profess to know a lot about bourbon, but they seem to have a great selection, and if you get Mara as your server, just let her pick for you - she was great!

Great BBQ in the Louisville area!!! Love the interior industrial feel. The smoked chicken is awesome!!! Tender, moist, and seasoned. Not just the taste of smoke. I had the smoked wings with mild sauce. They were almost perfect. I mean, I ate the whole serving lol. I also had the fried okra and fries. Everything was great. I have no complaints. I don't personally eat ribs but, they looked fantastic. Plenty of options on the menu. Making me hungry right now just thinking about the food! lol It's finger-lickin' good!!! Check this place out!

Amazing! This should be enough but I will elaborate. I ordered the dry rubbed ribs and my fiancé had the shrimp and grits. Food, Service, and atmosphere were great. If your a local congrats on having a special place to eat. This place could go in any city and strive. Nice to eat somewhere people are proud to work at. Good luck Doc Crows and I will be back soon.

We had a great Thursday night dinner here! When we walked in, we were informed that it would be about a 30 minute wait, or we could eat at the bar. We opted for the bar, and I am glad we did. Our bartender, Keri, was great! She helped me pick out a bourbon cocktail that was delicious, and recommended one of her favorite bourbons to my husband when he was debating what to choose. The drinks were excellent, but we were also extremely happy with our food. One of the reasons we chose Doc Crow's was for their Raw Bar. We ordered eight oysters as an appetizer (two different kinds) and we were very happy with their freshness (some of them were flown in that morning). Being gluten free (not by choice), I am always hesitant to try a new place. I opted for the Stuffed Baked Potato with Beef Brisket (Keri thought there might be bread crumbs mixed in with the pulled pork), and my husband loved his Catfish Po Boy. Doc Crow's was definitely a great choice, and we will be back!

I have been wanting to try this place out for a while now and my girlfriend has too so we finally got our chance. We started out with cocktails. One friend had a beer from a pretty good beer menu and she enjoyed it. I don't remember which one it was. My other girlfriend and I got the Crow Cocktail: rye whiskey, pomegranate syrup and fresh lemon juice ($8) - it was super great! I got the brisket tacos - wonderful! Just remember that if you don't like fat to ask for a lean cut! Mine was really fatty but they cut a bunch of the fat off for me. Great flavor! My girlfriends had the pork tacos and the pulled pork platter. We ended it with the Wilbur Sundae. Holy pigs flying! It was amazing!! And Brilliant!

Great find. Shrimp & grits were tasty & the beer selection was unique (at least for me since I'm not a local). Place is HUGE and nicely arranged with friendly service.

If you are a bourbon fan then you need to go to Doc Crow's! As for the food, I had the chicken, which was some of the best chicken I have had in a long time. I see some negative reviews about the staff and although not everyone was the best, I could see they were trying. If you are in Louisville KY, you need to go to Doc Crow's.

Good Bourbon selection and ok BBQ. I appreciate that they have Michter's Small Batch a bourbon that can't be found many places in and around my hometown of Chicago. Ribs were smoked well with a decent dry rub on them and were absolutely huge! A half rack is PLENTY! Their sauce is weak sauce - just way too vinegar-y and runs right off the meat. Pulled pork was tender bit not 'pulled' really at all and served in a rather small clump of pork shoulder on my buddy's platter - really disappointing. Side selections are uniquely delicious. Greens and Lima beans although healthy, were REALLY tasty... must've been the fact that they are sauteed with bacon YUM! All in all a decent experience just as long as you order correctly.

I agree with the four star consensus. I had a brisket sandwich with a side of baked beans. The brisket was good with a slight smoked flavor. Portion was on the small side. The baked beans were awesome as they come with shredded, smoked meats in there. Seemed to be mostly pulled pork but there was also a hint of brisket too. Service was pleasant and speedy.

Shrimp and oyster Po-Boy: fantastic taste, good portion, and side of chips. A little too big to eat without a knife and fork, but worth it Service: great food and bourbon recommendations

First time coming here...the atmosphere is very neat. The service is wonderful. Server was very attentive and nice. Ordered the chicken...sooooo much food but delicious. Started with the fried oysters and wings and couldn't of been happier. Will definitely be back.

Had the pile 'o chips with pulled pork - delish! Mint julep lemonade was tasty too. Good atmosphere but Drinks were rather sloooow... Cornbread was good but had to send one back - it was almost burned. Would definitely go back!

Pretty tasty. Went there for lunch and got the beef brisket and a huge potato with shredded pork. Decent price for the quantity. Coworker got the club sandwich and said it was a winner. Like the atmosphere. Parking is a bit of a hassle but the food was worth that hassle. Next up the ribs.....!!!! Wife isn't able to eat here because of her peanut/nut allergy.

A smokehouse raw bar? Skeptical meet delicious. The best gumbo I've had outside Louisiana. Brisket tacos are a must order. Sting ray oysters delicious. Full slab of ribs meaty and tender. The great beer and bourbon selection huge bonus. The food came fast and hot. The one thing you can't get anywhere else Casey the bartender. He gave us great suggestions, told us a little about different things in the area, and made two out of towners from Detroit feel totally welcome! If I was local I'd come here weekly!

Food & service was fantastic. Bourbon selection is amazing. Bubba burger changed my colleague's life. Definitely worth experiencing.

They give you generous portions, but the BBQ wasn't the most impressive. The meat was a touch on the dry side and the sauces were on par with store brands. The fried okra was lacking flavor, but the Mac n' Cheese was good.

Lonely Planet never disappoints in recommendations. I loved the atmosphere and food here. The reason I am giving it three stars is because I realized when I got home, after rushing out from the Derby fest crowd, the bar tender overcharged me. Great spot, but be sure to double check your bill.

I have to say that this place deserves no less than 5 stars. It hits every single criteria that I have for a wonderful meal out. The restaurant is located in an old, historical building in downtown Louisville. The restaurant is built like a shotgun home. It is fairly narrow and runs the length of a city block. The bar is at the entrance and we dined in the back room. The decor is nice, clean and fairly modern. The wood floors are fantastic (and look like the real old deal). There is a middle room between the bar area and the back room where we dined, where there is an open kitchen and tables surrounding. We asked our waiter who Doc Crow is/was (and I have not Googled to verify this) but the basement of the building was apparently used as a bourbon distillery back in the days of Prohibition, and Doc Crow ran the show. So, we have a beautiful new restaurant named after a bootlegger in an old, historical building in downtown Louisville. So far, so good. Seeing as how I was in bourbon country, I drank it like water, just like the locals. The drinks were terrific here. Our server was really knowledgeable, quick, efficient and had a personality to boot. At our table, we ordered the redfish, catfish, fried pork chops, green beans, lima beans, fried green tomatoes and the crab cakes. There was not one unhappy face in the bunch. I had the fried pork chops and they were heaven. Two pork chops breaded and fried. The pork was moist and tender, and the breading was flavorful, crispy and not at all greasy. My sister had the redfish and it was nicely cooked, and had a wonderful texture to it. If I had to ding the place (and I am wont to find something to gripe about) I would have to say that the green beans were a disappointment. This place is billed as southern cooking (only more upscale), and the green beans were disappointing. They were still crisp and had some kind of red (I am guessing) tomato in it. Southern green beans should be cooked in bacon or ham to the point they are almost a soggy mess. The highlight of the meal had to be the dessert we ordered. It was called Wilbur's sundae, and whoever Wilbur is, God bless. It was a big scoop of rich butter pecan ice cream, with caramel, honest-to-goodness crumbled bacon and the piece de resistance was...pork rinds. I would have never ordered this dessert as soon as I saw "pork rinds" but my sister insisted on ordering it and we could not thank her enough. The pork rinds are covered in cinnamon and sugar, and they added a much needed crunch to the sundae and we all raved about how delicious it was. So, what puts this place over the top to 5-stars? The bill. I live in Southern California, and in Southern California for a party of five, drinks, appetizers, five entrees and sides, plus a dessert., in a downtown restaurant....hoo boy, it ain't cheap. The bill here for everything was a third of what we would have expected out here on the Left coast. So, to run it all down: wonderful decor (check), great service (check), delicious food and drinks (check) and very reasonably priced (check). 5- stars.

Came here during Derby weekend. It's obviously a very popular spot. A little on the commercial side, ambiance-wise, but everything we tried (pork chops, veggie burger, fried okra, fries) was very good. Service was slow, though, as we had to ask for more ice tea, side orders didn't arrive with entrees, etc.

Great atmosphere and food at a reasonable price. Love the fried chicken sandwich and the pecan pie. They don't just give you a slice of pie, it's small pie and comes warm like it's just out of the oven!

A co-worker and I went to Doc Crow's for lunch a few weeks ago. When we walked in, the place was packed, which is always a good sign. One of the first things I noticed as we followed the hostess was how deceptively large the dining area was. The ambience was great without being overly fancy or pretentious - I remember thinking this would be a great place for a date night, that is if your date doesn't mind barbecue sauce dribbling down your chin. We started off with the much-talked about Heap 'n Chips with beef, which was delicious and a meal in itself. I ordered the Smokehouse sampler - pulled pork (moist and flavorful), beef brisket (slightly fatty but yummy) and ribs (I'd heard so much about how juicy and tender Doc Crow's ribs were but sadly ours was dry and a bit tough). Our mistake was not informing the server right away, perhaps fearing a huge globule of saliva from a member of the kitchen staff; when I brought it to his attention, he was genuinely apologetic and assured me that their ribs are usually very tender, with the meat falling off the bones. I'll go back and give them another try.

My wife and I had the pleasure of eating here during a busier weekend for Louisville, not only was prom season in full swing but also the cirque du soleil Michael Jackson show was in town. Since doc's is right next door it had a long wait, luckily we had made reservations. I point this out because we showed up a touch earlier and expected to wait until our scheduled seating. The hostess was apologizing to us for the very small wait even though we were early. We never once complained but to see how concerned she was about inconveniencing us even though any would have been our own doing was impressive. We were seated on time and given a great seat by the floor to ceiling openings on the street. But on to the important stuff the food. We started with the Oyster Rockefeller which was excellent, my wife had never had oysters before and was made a fan by this dish. For dinner I had the sampler with ribs my wife the heap n chips. The bbq was on point. Great flavor, tender, and just the right quantity of what a true sampler should be. Everything tasted fantastic and I was barely able to finish my meal. Our waiter was attentive but not burdensome which is appreciated. If you are in the area for a show at yum or just visiting you need to hit up doc's.

If you like chilli and chilli powder on everything this is your place. Ordered the pulled pork nachos with pico and lettuce and got pico and lettuce and jalapeño. The sampler was next and the pork is covered in onion straws, the chicken was over spiced and dry, the brisket was good but only a small amount on the plate once you cut off the fat, my wife's was worse the baked beans were chili and loaded potato was loaded with nothing but fat and covered with cheese, this is a true tourist trap. Go to Frankfort BBQ on Frankfort ave

The wait time here and the fact that they wont take resevrations was very frustrating. When we showed up after calling being told there were no reservations.. we were told we should have made one- go figure. But the food was great! I ordered a stuffed baked potato.. had pulled pork in it.. SO DELICIOUS! The beer selection was good. We ended up sitting at the bar because the wait for a table was too long for our size group. I was not satisfied with the service. We were sitting right at the bar in front of the servers face and it still took forver to be taken care of. We were never offered / asked if we wanted another drink... just given the check after finishing out meal. I was very surprised and a little turned off by this. Because of the issue with the wait, reservations and lack of exceptional service i wont be rushing back here.

Omg this was some of the best bbq we have ever had. We were driving thru and stopped here for the night, chose this off the yelp app and were so glad. We got the chili which was amazing, and shared the smoking platter which had the best brisket I've ever had. The green beans and mac and cheese were also awesome. The ribs were pretty good, but you can't go wrong with the brisket. Also got the pecan pic and Jordan at the bar made us some of his kinda old fashions which were the best ever, not on the bev menu so ask him if he's there because it was part of a drink contest. Overall one of the best bbq dinner so glad we chose it.

  • Michael G.

The bourbon list is as wonderful as advertised and the service is smart and great. The food is all right: we ordered the smokehouse sampler and while the ribs were fantastic, the rest was dry (including the cornbread) and the sides were additional costs. I would say that it's definitely worth going here and is a great Louisville spot, but it's more of an American restaurant than a smokehouse.

  • Jess A.

Meal highlights include: shrimp & grits, redfish with crawfish étouffée, and the hush puppies (yes, really). At least earlier in the evening it is a kid-friendly environment (mine pigged out on a half pound of shrimp a piece and the hush puppies I didn't steal to eat) but they also have standard kids fare like hamburgers and fries. The appetizer section could easily be renamed a tapas menu. If only I had saved room for dessert...next time...

This is a solid 4 star for me. I've been 3 times now, and while it is always enjoyable, never seems to completely knock my socks off. I will say that this last time I thought the macaroni and cheese was completely delicious. Unfortunately, I had forgotten that the cornbread is not -- very dry/crumbly -- I need to remember not to order that again. The barbecue was good and certainly the restaurant is buzzing all night long. It's a pretty good choice in downtown Louisville, but I'm anxious to try other things too!

  • Ryson W.

The food here is good, and I love the atmosphere. The service was great. Unfortunately I did not get to try a drink. Had brisket and baked beans with okra. Good taste, but 4 stars because it is so darn heavy in your stomach. Need a way to lighten up some of the menu options.

So the food was not bad. The Mac and Cheese was real good. We had the chips with brisket and BBQ sampler. The Mac and Cheese was real good. I am jaded in the sense that I believe Kansas City BBQ is the best in the world, once you have had Oklahoma Joes all other BBQ pales in comparison. But this place made a good effort. After we were seated I read reviews about the place and found one that spoke about a rude hostess. This one wasn't rude but wasn't pleasant either. She threw menus on the table and walked away. Our server was very pleasant. So all in all there were more goods than bads but nothing about it made me say "wow what a great place" I would just say "yea it was good and didn't suck".

I spent a week in Louisville and ended up having dinner and drinks at Doc Crow's twice. And it was a fantastic experience both times. The first time I had the sampler, as well as the gumbo, and the food was excellent. In addition to that, Mara, our waitress was extremely helpful and professional, recommending me a bourbon that was to die for. The second time I had the blackened tilapia over rice, which was phenomenal.I also shared the breadpudding dessert with a few of my friends. They all loved it. As did I. For an authentic BBQ and southern hospitality experience for a more than reasonable price, I can't recommend Doc Crow's enough.

Awesome. Awesome awesome awesome. This was the best place we found in Louisville, and so we ended up here for dinner twice in a week. The drink selection is huge, there are lots of interesting cocktails to choose from, and a crazy variety of whiskey options. The cocktails I tried were tasty, the staff is definitely knowledgeable on the whiskeys. All the food was fantastic. The oysters were served with house made cocktail sauce that was crazy good. They served house made chips covered in delicious pork barbeque. The St Louis ribs were melty wonderful. We tried a few other dishes while we were here and every one of them was awesome. Also- great fried okra! I would absolutely hit this place up again if I'm ever in the area!

The food was tasty and they offer a few vegetarian options. We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, oysters and of course the bourbon. You gotta try Brookers,,,128 proof! They offer flights and tastings. Reservations accepted and I would recommend or go early to ensure you get a seat.

Seems to be popular. I was in town with coworkers and we went to Doc Crows. My review: I saw a lot on the menu about BBQ and Seafood twist. The good: deep fried oysters: good! A lot like Calamari. The ice cream dish that has bacon and maple syrup: good! The bad: Shrimp cocktail: weak! Very small and not worth $11. You get 5 and I've had frozen shrimp at home for a fraction of the price and the same size (very small - not steak house prawns) that tasted the same. Smoked brisket: where's the smoke? Yes it was moist - lacked additional flavor. St. Louis ribs: ugh! Yes, I could pull off the bone. Not a problem. Lacked - umm... REALLY lacked a great rub and smoke flavor. Actually, the worst ribs I've had in years. Yes. I'm saying.. "Yuck".

  • A L.

Crazy that everyone loves this place. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day. Braised greens were just ok and pulled pork sandwich lacked flavor. Slaw had an overpowering one-note paprika flavor and the chip nacho thing (with pork) looked a lot better than it tasted -- they poured nacho cheese all over it but it (surprisingly) had zero flavor. Chips themselves were good. Meat was good. Would've preferred more than one BBQ sauce option for the table. Overall, probably one of the best dining options downtown, which isn't saying much. I recommend skipping this place and heading a couple miles down the road to NuLu (Market Street). MUCH better restaurants with local flavor.

I was driving across the country and wanted to stay in Kentucky for the Bourbon and the BBQ...two things I love more than myself most days. Enter Doc Crow's. They have an in house smoker that does things up proper, and a Bourbon menu thicker than a bible. A plus fellas.

I was in town for a conference and we were craving BBQ! We ordered a bunch of food and I tried the shrimp & oyster po'boy, raw oysters, shrimp cocktail, and baby back ribs. The best had to be the shrimp cocktail and raw oysters--both were super fresh. The po'boy was good but the bread was on the rough side. My ribs were also rather burnt but it was tasty when I added the sauces at the table. Service was great and I liked how they all wear flannel shirts.

Went to Doc Crows last week and walked in without a reservation. The place was packed and we went on a night of UofL basketball game. But, despite the crowd, they were able to seat us within 15-20 minutes. The front staff were very nice and accommodating, as well as the person showing us to the table and our waiter. So, kudos to their staff for great service. The food was even better. We ordered the pork rind appetizer and mussels. The mussels were full of flavor and didn't have that "ocean" flavor that can turn some people off to mussels. Our table ordered the bbq sampler, kids pulled pork sandwich, shrimp and grits and the brisket entree. Everything was excellent and cooked well. Although, the side mac and cheese was still cold in the middle, but the waiter promptly took it away and gave us a new mac and cheese side that was piping hot. It sure made a difference and that had to be the best mac and cheese any of us had ever had. I had the shrimp and grits and I'm not from the South but I truly enjoyed it, including the grits. It was full of flavor and the shrimp wasn't overdone. We barely had any room left but we still ordered a dessert. We ordered "Wilbur's Sundae." (Brown butter praline ice cream with Bourbon caramel ribbon atop cinnamon pork rinds sprinkled with candied bacon topped with a Bourbon cherry.) It was to die for. I did have to take one star off because we also ordered an entree to take home for a friend. We ordered the Blackened Filet Red Fish (Blackened redfish, Andouille sausage, and crawfish étouffée). When we brought it home, there was a good size cut of fish and maybe 1/4 cup of white rice with some sauce. There was no sausage or crawfish etoufee. Next time, we will check our order before leaving the restaurant but if this is how they serve that dish, it is a let down, especially for $16. But, our overall experience at Doc Crows was great and we will come back again.

The restaurant is large and spacious with a good ambiance. Our server was a bit weird in that he seemed a bit patronizing but I don't think he meant to be. Service was fast and efficient. The food itself was a great value, especially coming from NYC. We had mussels and oysters for apps. The mussels were surprisingly really good. I didn't partake in the oysters but the people I was with said they were good. We shared a BBQ platter and ordered three sides, mac and cheese, greens, and Louisiana rice. I thought the rice was OK, it was a bit dry, the mac and cheese was very very good, and they liked the greens. The sides were huge and only $3 each!. On the platter, the ribs were definitely the best, though not as moist and falling off the bone as I've had at other places. Charging $1 for extra Texas toast was a little annoying as well, but overall a great experience.

Seriously disappointing. We went based on a profile in a whiskey magazine, but unfortunately they were out of the first 7-8 bourbons we wanted to try on the sign and menu. The good stuff was $50 a shot, and maybe they still have that, but anything in the $20 range is out and the $10-12 selections you can buy at the grocery store. We didn't have bbq cause we were bbq'd out by that point in our trip. They have two oyster choices (not what I would call a raw bar) and they were out of one by 7 - not sure which kind I got because they couldn't tell me! Ribeye was okay but the salad was tiny, bare bones iceberg and over dressed. Our server was nice, but that doesn't make up for wasting $100 on the worst meal of our trip.

Food was good. I had the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer, half rack baby back ribs, and fried okra. If this rating was on Food it would get 4 stars, ambience was 5 stars. However, If you short change people on their liquor, you approach a dangerous area. I ordered a bourbon/diet and I could hardly taste any bourbon, when empty, I told the bartender "I can barely taste any bourbon, please go less soda." The 2nd drink was no different. I would question whether I even had 1/2 a shot per drink. The person next to me also expressed that the bar service was not good and his drink was very weak. Don't mess with people's alcoholic beverages.

I was looking for a casual, but good BBQ joint in L'ville for a business dinner for a large group. Doc Crows came highly recommended from everyone that I asked. I even went and had a drink at the bar the night before to make sure it met my standards. The decor is on the modern side, but still has that southern BBQ vibe. Bar is well stocked with tons of good bourbon and beers. As far as the food goes, ummm, it was all good! Shrimp and grits, fried oysters, okra, brisket, pork tacos, and all the fixins! Plus, the dessert was out of this world! Can't wait to go back on my next Bourbon Trail trip!

Made a reservation a few days ahead, and was impressed when they actually called the day of the reservation to confirm. When we arrived we were seated promptly and began to peruse the HUGE drink and bourbon menu. Our server was very knowledgeable, pleasant and gave us the time we needed to decide what we wanted. The pace of the meal was just right, although the people who brought the salad, appetizer and entrees sort of plopped them down on the table, rather than placing them in front of us, as if they were in a hurry. Because of that I could not give a five star rating. I had fresh oysters on the half shell as my appetizer, they were delicious and the sauces served with them were also fresh and good tasting. My entrée was shrimp and grits, served hot, with generous portions of shrimp and sausage. I would order this again! My husband got the filet mignon with tobacco onions and mashed potatoes, cooked perfectly and piping hot! He ordered the pecan pie for dessert, and this took quite a while, but when it arrived we saw why. It was a hot, small whole pecan pie topped with ice cream!! The prices were reasonable, with everything being ala carte. I would love to go back and try the BBQ but that night not wanting that type of entrée. Hope to get back there very soon!!

Great tasting inexpensive food coupled with strong drinks makes for a good time. To bad those qualities are completely overshadowed by absolutely horrible service. The horrid service stared the moment we were seated... and began waiting. Waiting for our drink order to be taken, waiting for a second or third drink, waiting for our food order to be taken, waiting for our food, waiting to ask for our checks, waiting for our checks, waiting to ask for a pen to signs our checks, waiting on a pen to sign our checks. See the theme? Why should a simple dinner take over three hours? Our server also brought our salad and appetizers out at the same time as our meal. There was literately no room on our table because it all came out at once! The saving grace and the reason for two stars over the minimum of one - the food! I had the Cracklin' Caesar Salad & Beef Brisket Tacos and hey were both delicious.

I was in L-ville on business and visited this place on a recommendation. They were pretty busy, and couldn't get us a table for a while so we sat at the bar. I had the peel-n-eat shrimp and it was SO good. They were a bit too hot (almost scalding) when first brought out, so I had to wait a few minutes to eat them, but the seasoning was perfect and they hit the spot. My friends got the nachos, which were good, but unusual for me because they were on chips and not tortilla chips. I liked them alright, but I like the traditional nachos a bit better. I had the smokehouse sampler for dinner. The pulled pork was very tender and good, but I'm a fan of cooking it with the sauce so it has more flavor. This was good but somewhat bland. The beef was good, but a bit fatty for my taste. The St. Louis ribs were very good and were the highlight of the meal. I wanted cornbread with it, but didn't see any on the menu - I later heard someone mention it, so I should have asked. Bummer. But the HIGHLIGHT of the meal was the dessert. Warm, gooey chocolate chip cookies, made to order and straight from the oven. Wow. We actually talked about trying another place for dinner the next night but coming back here for the cookies. Definitely worth it.

We went here twice in two days since we were staying at the Galt. We went through the usual Yelp! routine of trying to find good restaurants in a city filled with 4 star restaurants. Of course with a 11 month old baby, we were a bit limited in our options. One of the best bargains was the Heap'n Chips for $6. Picture a open bag of potato chips (or as they call it, tater chips) topped with moist and tender pulled pork, salsa, sour cream, and chile peppers. That was pretty good. Definitely get the wings too for a quality appetizer. The rest of the main entrees (catfish, ribs, gumbo soup) were not spectacular but filling. We really thought the ribs could have been more tender - they didn't fall off the bone by any means. Check it out if you are downtown - but we would have loved to possibly visit another restaurant.

This place nailed it. The food is delicious and prepared well. The staff is great, and the atmosphere is wonderful. It's spacious with rustic comfortable wood benches, a sports bar area. I'm definitely coming back here when I return to louisville.

I can absolutely see why this is a new Louisville favorite. Southern downhome cooking and a raw bar? Yes please! The space is beautiful. A sleek modern look that would feel at home in a place like NYC and Chicago. I know some people have commented that someplace this nice doesn't feel right with the BBQ atmosphere, but I actually kind of liked it. Modern setting and some ribs? Why the hell not. Nikki K called it "new urban south aesthetic." I couldn't have said it better myself. I got the smoked Portobello & Fried Green Tomato sandwich, which was delicious. Perfectly cornmeal fried, fried green tomatoes and a delicious mushroom. My only complaint was the bun, which got a little too soaked up with all the juices and caused the sandwich to basically fall apart in my hands. It was a delicious messy meal for sure but I would have liked a little more stable bun and, therefore, a little more stable sandwich. And it was only $7, as were most of the sandwiches. Damn. That's hard to beat. I absolutely enjoyed having a nice Louisville lunch here and would recommend it to others without question.

Good Southern food. Had me some fried green tomatoes, fried okra and shrimp with grits. I'm in hog heaven. As far as ambience, it's not exactly my kinda place (I'm a big fan of how a place makes me feel while I'm there) but that being said, I really enjoyed my meal A LOT! Can't say enough good things about it! I will returneth!

  • Pamela D.

Oh boy did I enjoy this place. Had a local beer on tap which was tasty- my husband had a different local beer that was on tap, also tasty. Had some delicious chicken wings, and some fried okra (best I've ever had) and fried green tomatoes (best I ever had) and Blackened redfish, Andouille sausage, and crawfish étouffée- I have no basis for comparison on this dish but I LOVED it. 3 other people ate with me, all of them seemed happy as clams. Oh Doc Crows... open a location in California!

    (5)
  • Brian G.

Eh. The space Doc Crows occupies is beautiful. The size of the restaurant belies the exterior. It reminds me of some restaurants in NYC where it's narrow up front, but the space just goes on and on through the back. The decor has an old school oyster house, meets smoke house, meets speak easy feel to it. Definitely a great place to hang out. The food is good, but I wouldn't quite say amazing. My special burger with short ribs and other cuts of meat was good, but nothing quite stellar about the meat or the bread. We had a selection of hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, sweet potato fries, and mac n cheese - all good, but again, nothing stellar. I did not try the ribs, which I heard were quite moist and tasty so potential for an extra star for that dish. The food again is good and nothing to disappoint, but you may agonize over the dishes trying to find something that really stands out. Thankfully they also had a selection of fresh oysters, which was a great way to start the evening while my glass of Four Roses bourbon was a great way to end the evening.

I'm staying in the downtown area so I ask my hotel for a recommendation, so we ended up here. We walked in and was seated immediately. The place was packed and it was a Monday night. I ordered an IPA, wedge salad and the smoked chicken with green beans, outstanding to all. I would highly recommend this place.

This is a great group dinner spot right on Main Street. We have been here for a few birthday gatherings. The menu is spot on and reasonable prices for a nice dinner on most budgets. You can splurge for oysters that vary daily or you can get one of the fabulous sandwiches for under 10 bucks. They are known for their BBQ and it is definitely good, but I am a bit hooked on the Softshell crab sandwich. Maybe a touch overseasoned, but over is definitely better than under in this case. Juicy and flavorful, it shows how helpful it is to have the UPS hub here in Louisville to ensure access to fresh seafood. I have also tried the portabello and fried green tomato sammich, also quite tasty. I'm a fan of paying extra for their sweet potato fries. My bf got the rolled oyster appetizer one time and they were excellent. The single raw oysters are a bit overpriced to me, but then again we are in Louisville. They are paying to get them there. It has a good sleek atmosphere that is southern yet somehow modern big city at the same time. Cool spot!

Delightful service, perfectly prepared and plated meal, natural decor gives a cozy atmosphere to a modern design.... I'm going back for the portobello mushroom and fried green tomato sandwich with a side of green beans.

  • Drew K.

Sat at the bar, service was very good. Had the brisket from the smoker (recommended by the bartender over the ribs), and a side of slaw. To be honest, it was just OK, lacking much depth of flavor and the portion was small. Th slaw was highly peppered and lacked any other flavor. I have had MUCH better brisket from the place at the Dallas airport.

  • Kaitlin E.

I had fried green tomatoes, a mint julep, and the fried pork chops with mashed potatoes. They would have gotten five stars had my mashed potatoes not been cold. The food is great! Service is very friendly too.

This place was walking distance from my hotel in downtown Louisville. The vibe in the restaurant was pretty cool and the food wasn't bad. It was waaaay too crowded and the hostesses seemed overwhelmed dealing with the waiting customers. We got lucky and snagged two seats at the bar right as a couple was leaving. I enjoyed the fried oysters but wouldn't wait in their cold dark entrance for 45 minutes just for the chance to eat them.

My wife and I were looking for some bbq without the honky tonk feel. Doc Crows is visually appealing with it's large street windows and classy hipster decor. We walked in off the street on a Friday night. We didn't have to wait at all. The menu was large and the prices were so cheap. I had the pork tacos and my wife had the brisket. Even with drinks, our bill was very reasonable. I would definitely come here again and recommend it to anyone.

We came in late with a large group of young girls (volleyball tournament). The staff were wonderful and accommodating. Service was first rate, oysters were fantastic. Tap selection is very good. Recommend the portabella and fried green tomato burger, very unique. The po' boy sandwich was average, but I might be a bit spoiled there. Great atmosphere and staff, definitely worth a trip.

Came here based on yelp reviews. So many awesome things! Mint julep lemonade, heap'n brisket nachos, and 2 votes for best pecan pie of a lifetime. Great bourbon selection, and the servers know what they're talking about. Pork rind sundae and bread pudding ok but the bourbon caramel ice cream was great. Late night food service and good downtown people watching. Will definitely go repeatedly.

This was our second visit; our server was friendly and knowledgable about the menu. We had all three types of oysters that were offered, and they were just okay. I couldn't distinguish between the Washington or East Coast oysters, not the best I've ever had of course. I ordered the Po'Boy combo with fries. The fried shrimp and oysters were fine as was the sauce. Although I had more bread than seafood, which was a bummer; the fries were fine. My wife had the grilled portobello and green tomato, it was excellent!! The hush puppies and onion rings for sides were average at best. We also had the beans, which looked more like chili; I enjoyed them but they are def not a bean side I was thinking of or most people would like. My brother in law had the brisket and said it was good but dry. The chips were good as well. I'm not sure if we'll be back in the future, too many other choices in this city. The first experience was similar and it took us over a year to get back to this restaurant .

In town for business and this place was highly recommended by the hotel staff and was located very close to the hotel - convenient! The place has a very hip atmosphere. The block has been revitalized while maintaining the original façades of the buildings. The atmosphere is a little old fashioned, a little modern, overall nice place - spacious, too - as it's a surprisingly long dining area. We were seated in one of the booths, which was comfortable and good for a group of 3 in terms of noise level and ambiance. No one at the table was into the raw bar items, instead, we went for some of the signature drinks and smokehouse items. I got the "Sasquatch" to drink which featured apple whiskey. It was not strong on the apple and went down smooth. To eat, I went with the pulled pork supper. The pork was very tender, smoked to perfection, and served over Texas toast with 'tobacco' onions. I got a side of coleslaw. It was all very tender and tasty. I was pleasantly surprised with the coleslaw. Even at some of the best BBQ joints I've been to the coleslaw sucks. Not this stuff. It was a nice blend of tart, tangy, creamy, and crisp. It really complimented the pulled pork. I was very impressed with the food, atmosphere, and surprisingly, the affordable pricing. Would come back here again.

  • Chris S.

I don't have a ton of good stuff to say about this place. First, the waiter was really nice and the drinks were ok priced. Still high but I get you in a touristy area. Second, the BBQ was very poor in my opinion. I split a platter with a co-worker and we were disappointed. I probably won't try this place again but avoid the BBQ if you eat here. I doubt I'll go back due to my singular experience.

This restaurant is a welcomed treat when you are looking for good local food in a fun and eclectic restaurant. It is a great location for business travelers as well as group dinners. We started with the fried green tomatoes. They were delicious and large enough to share between two to three people. Now for the mains and sides. There was a major thumbs up for the beef brisket sandwich. The meat was cooked to perfection, tender to the touch and the sauce just added the extra magic. The vegetarian friendly black eye pea burger is spot on. One of the best veggie burgers ever eaten. And if you have room or a large group, order a side of their phenomenal Mac and cheese. It is thick, creamy and spicy. Overall, everyone left uber satisfied and with memories of a great meal. Put this place on your Louisville Eats list! Note: there is street parking or a parking lot behind the building for pay.

Huge portions. Good food but spicy for me. The Louisiana rice aka dirty rice and the beans were tasty but spiced up hotter than I like But then I'm a big wimp on spicy Hot. B

"Meh" is the perfect way to describe Doc Crow's. Between my girlfriend and I, we ordered a Shrimp Po-Boy, Mac and Cheese, Pulled Pork, and some Hush Puppies. None of these things were anything better than average. The Pulled Pork was actually pretty poor in terms of quality. I will say that they were absolutely slammed, so that could have something to do with it. But the meal was around $30, and for $30, we have had far better meals in many other restaurants.

As much as I love bbq, I can't believe it took me so long to try this place. It was definitely a pleasant surprise! First, I was amazed at how large the restaurant was and how many staff they had. From the outside, it looks quite small. The pork nachos were delicious and pretty much filled the 3 of us up who ate them before our main course. I had ribs which were very well prepared. I also had a side of the mac & cheese which had a little bit of an odd taste to it (I don't think i'd order it again as a mac & cheese expert). I didn't care for the fact that the bbq is ala carte...it just seems that if you order ribs, for example, you'd want a side to go with it. We had key lime pie for dessert and it was freshly prepared in-house and was great. I would definitely return!

The loaded baked potato is fantastic! Good, friendly service, but a tad slow. Met my husband for lunch one day, and it wasn't crowded, but the wait staff was a little slow. Maybe they were short staffed.

How this place is not 5 stars blows my mind. On business from NY and this is one of the best Restaurants I've ever been to from food to service. Bartenders are knowledgeable and have no problem giving you a historical and current breakdown on all bourbon and their food.... If God had a smoke and specialized in southern style food

    (5)
  • H. B.

Atmosphere and service were good, but the BBQ simply is not. This place feels like it is more about creating a model that can be franchised than focusing on delivering great quality. Sounds kind of harsh, but you can tell when a restaurant has a soul and this one feels lacking in that area. They have many things going for them, but really need to focus on what is needed to create good BBQ in order to take things to the next level.

Driving from Cleveland to St. Louis and chose this for our dinner stop. I walked in just getting over a wicked cold. I didn't want to wipe my nose with the pretty cool cloth napkins they had, so I asked our server if they had paper napkins. Already, I had gone too far. Our snappy, pissed-off-he's-working-here-with-a-Bachelors-degree server advised me that there are rolls of paper in the bathroom. Thanks. I'm really glad I came here. I get to be insulted by the runner up of the Louisville duck dynasty look-alike contest. On to the food... I ordered the brisket dinner ($9) and a side of biscuits and gravy ($3). Brisket was moist and tender. Biscuit and gravy was fantastic but a bit light on gravy. It's possible to have a decent meal here. Just hope you don't lose the snappy waiter lottery.

We ate there again last night with the parents, and it was even better. Without a doubt, the smoked salmon was the best we've ever had. My mom, wife and myself ordered the salmon and agreed it was the best we've ever had. I didn't think I cared that much for salmon, but this was better than what we got down in Florida (where the fish is suppose to be especially fresh). Extremely impressed with this restaurant, so much we all agreed to periodically drive to Louisville, stay the night, just to go to this place.

I was taken here after a long day at work and was very impressed. Fresh oysters to start the meal, the bourbon minuet was phenomenal! I tried the brisket with a Malbec and enjoyed every bite. My sides were the Mac and Cheese, which I wish was a never ending bowl. The second was the veggie mix, which was a little disappointing. The staff was friendly and helped a lot when I was trying to make up my mind on what to eat.

Absolutely loved this restaurant. This was my favorite in my week trip to Louisville. I arrived around 7 on a Thursday and the host quoted us a 35 minute wait, so our party sat at the bar. We still put our name on the list and I got a text 10 minutes later that our table was ready. We decided to stay at the bar because it was a great atmosphere. I started with the Sasquatch cocktail. Very straight forward strong drink with an apple aftertaste. It was a great start but I am going to rave about the pepper Collins, it tasted like summer. YOU MUST try the heap'n chips. Think southern nachos, they were beyond delicious. Overall a great restaurant, friendly staff and amazing food.

I was staying at a hotel nearby so I decided to go to Docs and get some food to go. I got nervous when I walked up because there were about 20 people waiting outside. I went to the bar, was immediately helped, and ordered the heap n' chips with brisket. I got my food and was out in less than 5 minutes. The only thing I regret was not ordering it with extra brisket because the brisket was so good. Overall it was a great first experience, and I would definitely recommend getting their food to go if you want some delicious bbq but don't necessary want to wait for a table.

Great atmosphere - great food- amazing cocktails- outstanding staff- only downfall- the barstools get 2 thumbs down. How can a place this great have such inadequate bar stools? Come on now....

Fun place. I went there for lunch, so the bourbon selection was off my radar since I had to go back to work. I sat at the bar, the bartender's were friendly, but the time they spent chatting with me got them in trouble with the servers who wanted faster service. I had a PoBoy, it did the job. I really wanted to get back there that evening, but didn't make it happen. One negative was that there were some burrs on the edge of the bar that snagged my shirt. Careful where you sit.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Louisville! Probably one of my favorite ever, so much so that I dreamed of it for a year before I had a chance to go back after my first time. The pork chops are A-MAZING! It's the perfect combination of crunch, heat, and flavor. I had the oysters the first time I went, and I felt like it was a huge waste of money. I don't think that the server realized that you don't describe the size of the shell when someone ask you of the size of the oyster. As a result I ended up with 6 very small oysters for $18, they shells they came in were large though, again, it's not the size of the shell, but what's on the inside :-) The atmosphere of the place is great, the only thing that wasn't great was the waiting area. There's only a tiny space for people to wait, and this last time we went it was in January, it was snowing, and so the waiting area was super crowded because people couldn't simply wait outside. Aside from this though, if I lived in Louisville, I could very well see myself hanging out and eating at Doc Crow's regularly.

Nice looking place and friendly staff, but the food was bland and lifeless. The meat had been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. My girlfriend and I both got a mild stomach bug which lasted for a few days after eating there. Would not go back.

Traveling through Kentucky, stopped in Louisville for the night. Doc Crows was great. Solo travelers, I recommend that you sit at the bar. I had an experience with great bartenders, great service, great drinks and good food! Located on Whiskey Row, the Rowan's Creek Bourbon did not disappoint. Good food, great bourbon, better than average beer. Go for service, Bourbon, Service, Food, Beer.

I was here after the Oaks. The place was packed but we were seated quickly (we had reservations). Their bourbon selection is top notch and I enjoyed the fact that drink/shot/taste prices were listed for everything they had. I enjoyed my beef brisket tacos and fried green tomatoes. My boyfriend enjoyed his shrimp po'boy and fries. A neat place to try something new.

Kentucky is known for their southern food and barbecue - but unfortunately for me, I must have ordered the wrong items. This place was recommended to me by the hotel staff at the Brown Hotel. On a cold October night, I trekked though downtown to Doc Crow's -- about a twenty minute walk. We arrived at the restaurant at about 9PM and the place was popping with people eating, drinking, and waiting to be seated. The hostess told me that the wait was going to be about 30-45 minutes, but it turned out to be more like 20 minutes. Score! FOOD: My friend and I ordered the St. Louis style half rack of ribs, catfish po-boy, and sides of mac and cheese, and fried okra. Overall the food was tasty but nothing really special in my opinion. My only complains were that the ribs were a bit dry and the po-boy had a undercooked, fishy taste. The mac and cheese was pretty standard. I'd have to stay the best dish was the fried okra, which the perfect amount of batter to compliment the soft, chewy, and gooeyness of okra. For dessert, I tried the bourbon bread pudding which was pretty tasty, although there wasn't too much bourbon taste. I wish they gave the bread pudding a little bit more bourbon oomph! AMBIANCE: Casual, intimate. The place is pretty dark inside, so it can make a pretty awesome date spot. But because this place is bustling with people (young and old), this place is a great meeting spot for friends and families wanting a hearty, affordable meal in downtown Louisville. SERVICE: Good, attentive, and friendly service -- as what I've experienced throughout KY. Overall, this place gets 3.5 stars, rounded down to 3 stars. The food is overall above average, but the ribs and po-boy were a little disappointing, especially after reading reviews on these items. I had expected a little bit more from them. However, the fried okra and bread pudding were pretty good. Service and ambiance were good.

Doc Crows is a solid restaurant but I came away with a mediocre experience. The first negative was the fact that they were out of baby back ribs, relatively early into the day... So I went with just the brisket sandwich and the pulled pork nachos. The nachos were solid but the pulled pork was just average at best, not bad but nothing to holler about. The brisket sandwich was similar, brisket was an average cut and flavor. I'm pretty picky with my barbecue however being from the south. The barbecue sauce they have is pretty good though IMO. Overall it was a decent experience and some of the other menu items might be above par, my girlfriend had the shrimp n' grits and was very satisfied so there's that...

I was traveling and came across via Yelp so I stopped in for dinner. Very low key atmosphere and friendly staff. Since I was alone I ate at the bar. The service was great at the bar. I had the wedge salad with shrimp and grits. The salad was fresh and just the right amount dressing and blue cheese. The grits were flavorful with the right hint of spice. The shrimp was cooked well with slices of sausage. Very yummy.

Southern Style with a touch of modern. The place is in a great location and the vibe of the bar is awesome. Think hipster-y with a Cowboy feel. We went with a work group and they were able to handle a group of 30 or more. That is impressive in itself. We started with some loaded nachos. They were OK. That is about it. I was not impressed. The rest of the meal was excellent though. Going against the group consensus, I decided to go with the grits. Awesome choice. I would recommend it any day. They were perfectly cooked, great flavor, and a balanced presentation. All around amazing southern cooking! I would love to come back and try some of their more signature drinks and other dishes. Just not the nachos. If you are in the city, swing by.

Just spectacular food, service, and drinks. Terrific recommendations from our waiter for the fried pork chops, bread pudding, bourbon sweet tea, and craft beer on tap. Also loved the fresh oysters, fried green tomatoes, green beans, and brisket sandwich... Don't miss it!

Service was great. The lighting was weird. The Old Fashioned was too acidic. The Mac n Cheese was delicious but not served hot enough. The rest of our food was great. Wish we were seated by the window. Not as hipster as advertised. Wife recommends oysters Rockefeller and bread pudding.

I finally checked out doc crow's a few weeks ago Awesome location with high ceilings in the whiskey row lofts I ordered the catfish which comes with a cornbread batter and was super crispy with mashed potatoes and fresh veggies. A small plate of pickled veggies went along with the dish. Hands down the nicest staff I have dealt with in Louisville.

Oddly unseasoned Had the porkchops, which are deep-fried pork no bone not really sure if it's a "chop " Not sure if enough salt would make it better but it would've been better if they cook/chef added it to it Maybe next time it would get the brisket

Doc Crow's is one of my favorite Louisville restaurants. They typically prefer reservations, but I haven't had an issue getting a table before. I'd recommend a reservation for weekend nights if you think about it. The pulled pork sandwich with tobacco onions is so delicious. I substitute the chips for sweet potato fries, which makes for one of my favorite meals. I've also had the pulled pork nachos, which are pretty solid. I don't drink much liquor, but my friends have really enjoyed their craft cocktails. I'm a fan of the beer list, and can always find a few that I like.

I LOVE it when I get to give 5 star reviews and this one deserves a 5+ Keri behind the bar really made our night special and her cocktail mixing skills are ON POINT Everything we tried we liked and every drink was more than worth the money. My PERSONAL favorite was the Basil Gimlet (with Vodka) TO DIE FOR! We stayed light on food. Shrimp Cocktail with incredible cocktail sauce and Fried Oysters with that perfect cornmeal breading were perfect pairings to our lovely drinks. The music wasn't too loud and everyone seemed friendly and hardworking. PERFECT DATE NIGHT SPOT PERFECT GIRLS NIGHT SPOT Excellent all the way around!

A well run machine that chews up tourists like bourbon does my liver. We had a 30 minute wait for our table with the hostess encouraging us to go elsewhere for a drink and she well call us. So my initial thought is either business is so good they don't need all of my business or management hasn't realized the full potential of their restaurant. After our half hour of giving our patronage elsewhere we were given a table near the kitchen. The vibe was good and our waiter, Alan, was experienced and professional. We really went for it with appetizers, salad, entrees and dessert. Alan was hinting that we were over ordering but luckily we persevered over his mind control tactics - dining tip: wine will help shield you from mind control and unsolicited advice. I digress, the food was good particularly the meat sampler entree that has clearly been fine tuned and was made to perfection. Areas of concern included my wife's comment that the bathroom must have been designed by a man as the women's powder room is in a shared public space that in her opinion discourages its use for freshening up. Also I noticed a kitchen worker vigorously sweeping the floor but all I could think of was the dust he was creating which would ultimately settle on the entrees that were sitting there. Details in a otherwise wonderful evening. Additionally the bourbon list was mind blowing to a tourist like me...

Quality food in a casual atmosphere- I had the beef brisket and okra, it was perfectly done, crumbled and melted in my mouth. As most decent bars and restaurants in Kentucky, they have a superb bourbon selection too - Cheers !

I wanted so badly to love this place. I've wanted to try it for months and I hyped it up in my head but it was a disappointment. I went with my mom - we got an order of fried green tomatoes and we split the sampler with cheese grits and fried okra. Let's start with what I didn't like. The brisket was incredibly fatty - it was like digging for buried treasure to unearth little pieces of meat from globs of fat. Unless it's bacon - I don't want a lot of fat on meat. It's a textural nightmare for me. As a whole I felt like everything needed salt. There was a blandness to most everything. The batter for the green tomatoes and okra, the cheese grits, the remoulade, the dry rub on the ribs - I just felt like everything could use a little more salt. There were several things I did like. The texture of the fried green tomatoes was great. The batter was thin and crispy. They gave you meaty pieces of tomato and not little thin pieces that get lost in the batter. The pulled pork was very good and they put fried onions and pickles on it - which was a nice touch. Once salted, I loved the cheese grits. The service was good. It was very crowded and we needed a reservation - but the food came quickly. All in all - I would go back, but only if someone else wanted to check it out.

I'm a big fan of Doc Crows. I came here before I moved down to Louisville last November and I immediately thought, "Can't wait to move here if all the food is this good." From what I've had/what others have enjoyed, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. The first time I had the pulled pork sandwich with chips. The sandwich was delicious, however the chips were pretty basic. This past visit I had the grilled chicken sandwich and corn bread instead of chips. I am so happy I made the substitution because the corn bread was amazing--you don't need to put butter on it or anything, it's perfect the way it is. Next time I will be getting either the shrimp and grits or fried pork chops. They look delicious and my coworkers raved about them.

I'm always looking for good reasonably priced restaurants while out of town for work. This spot has everything going for it. It's in a great part of town, it looks fantastic on the inside, the service is super friendly and servers a re very knowledgeable. Most Importantly, the FOOD! Everything we had was off the charts. We had oysters for start, I ordered the Salmon with cornbread stuffing and baby spinach. My friend had breaded Pork chops with homemade mashed potatoes. For sides we had some really delicious Hushpuppies and Fried Okra!! The best hands down though was the baked Mac and Cheese!!! I mean wow, you have got to try it! All in all it was a great experience, I will be back!!!

The food was awesome. I got the chicken sandwich and it was awesome. The sauces were great as well. The building alone was great as well. Parking sucks in the area but the food made it worth it.

This is what I imagine when I picture a Bourbon Bar & BBQ Joint. Packed full on a Wednesday night, I knew I was in for a treat when I couldn't even get a single seat at the bar. I waited about 15 minutes and am very glad that I did. Once at the bar, I reviewed their extensive bourbon list, before finally settling on their Perfect Old Fashioned. The bartenders take the time to make sure they are crafting a great cocktail for you, and not just rushing the drinks out to the customers, even with an extremely busy restaurant. It was very much appreciated and you can tell once you taste your drink. I went with an order of smoked wings with a side of sweet potato fries. I ordered the mild sauce on the wings, and it was still a bit spicy for me, but not enough to ruin the dish. In fact, overall, they were among the best smoked wings that I've had. The sweet potato fries were a great complement. I was very impressed by the service (at least what I could see/experience at the bar). The bartenders were extremely knowledgeable about their bourbons and very friendly and attentive. Definitely a must-visit restaurant if you are in downtown Louisville.

The food at Doc Crow's is amazingly delicious; & for that reason, I will continue to go back. But I think that is solely the only reason Doc Crow's is in business. The first time I ever tried to go to Doc Crow's, the hostesses were so rude, we just left. I have worked in the service industry previously, as a hostess, server, takeaway server, & manager. I know sometimes when it gets busy, it becomes a frustrating environment. But you never take that out on the patron. The second time I didn't have to deal with them, & everything was fine & dandy. But last night when we went, not only were the hostesses rude again, but so was the waitstaff. So rude to the point where one actually barked at my friend to move out of his way when she was waiting in line for the bathroom. We couldn't wait to eat our food & leave. Our food took about 45 minutes to come out. I don't recall it taking that long before. & typically, that's not a normal ticket time in any restaurant. No explanation was given. But, we also didn't complain. We just wanted to eat & leave. I don't know if these people don't work well under stress, or if they had all just received terrible news on each time I've visited, or what. I'll go back for the food. It's pretty damn good. I just won't expect good service. Just eat & leave.

I never need to eat barbecue again because I ate at Doc Crow's today. Wait, I can't say that. I have to come back! This evening I had the pleasure of ordering the supper entrée of Doc's Chicken and a side of their Mac n'Cheese. The chicken was sharp, spicy, and succulent, with a slowly rising heat. The skin was slightly crispy and covered in a crunchy dry rub that just added to the floral bouquet surrounding you and attacking your taste buds. The dark meat was particularly juicy, but they did and excellent job with the white meat too. The Macaroni n'Cheese was a bit deceptive. You would expect it to have someone of a cooking affect on the palate due to the cheese, but it brought the heat too. The portion wasn't overwhelming (like with most sides) but it was definitely more than enough, with creamy white cheese and the top crisped up under the broiler. Yum. I'm salivating just thinking about it again. I definitely have to go back now.

Great all around. Big enough to take walk ups without a wait on a busy Sunday night. Great, great BBQ and fresh oysters from the Northeast. (We happened to do the Rockefeller version this time which is totally nummy and cheesy awesomeness) House made potato chips with a BBQ nachos dish bigger than a half watermelon. A Caesar with pork cracklins (genius) with an accompanying blackened tilapia (can pick pretty much any protein: chicken, pulled pork, beef brisket, shrimp, etc.) Fried green tomatoes were light and crispy with a fun bacony aioli. Service was exceptionally educated and great with suggestions to maximize your dining. And... the hundred name bourbon/whiskey/scotch selection all have taster portions. All of them. Make your own million dollar flights, if you desire. Parking is downtown typical, so you could park east or west of the 1st through 7th area and just ride the Zero bus to save something, but you don't have to because this entire menu is also affordable a true 2 $$ place.

Good food, great drinks, friendly service. I really like the food at Doc Crow's. Everything I've had has been really good. Nothing I've been overly excited about, but well above average. You can tell everything is fresh and homemade. Some notes: I like the brisket more than the pork (typical); the oysters seem a bit overpriced ($3 an oyster), but they're good and come with a delicious homemade cocktail sauce. The drinks are my favorite part about Doc Crow's. They have a nice cocktail menu, and they make one of my favorite Old Fashioned's. They use nice, large chunks of ice so your drink doesn't get watered down quickly. The servers are really friendly and helpful. They'll make recommendations and carry a conversation with you. Even when it's packed, they make sure to take care of the guests and help each other. Doc Crow's is a solid option and I can see why they do so well. I definitely recommend paying them a visit. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I was very underwhelmed here...I always feel like I get the best BBQ at the hole in the wall joints with the smoker in back...places like this seem to be more suited to yuppies and a dt "look at me" crowd. They certainly overcharge for the quality (not the quantity) and most everything is ala carte. Had the sampler...6 oz of pulled pork, 4 oz brisket and half rack of St Louis ribs. The ribs were amazing! The pork was dry and no flavor. The brisket was slimy and fatty. It came with Texas toast. Had the baked beans which were pretty good and the Mac and cheese which was ok. All of this was 30 bucks. If I were to go back then I would get a full rack of the St Louis ribs, beer, baked beans and call it a day. Enjoy!

Been here three times and the food never disappoints. Great southern food. You can't go wrong with anything here. My faves are the brisket baked potato and fried green tomatoes. Known for its super cold large goblet of bud light beers bar service is great. My only negative is that the servers always seem too overworked. Each time I have visited they all seem flustered rushing around and I hate asking for anything.

If you want good food, come here. If you want bad service, come here. I wasn't sure what order to put them in, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt for the sake that my hubby liked his dinner. We had oysters and fried green tomatoes to start, and they both were delicious; the remoulade with the 'maters was Devine! I ordered shrimp and grits and hubby ordered the sampling platter. The runner brought the food both times and was very cordial. Here's when all heeeelll broke loose, I asked our waiter during the appetizer round for more napkins. Nope, he forgot. That happens, servers are busy. When my messy grits and shrimp covered in a tomatoey sauce comes out, I ask for napkins a total of two times. Never got them. I wanted to cover my boobs so I wouldn't spill all my food over my chest (thanks gma for that). As time went by, never got the napkins or heard from the waiter . Oh, Sonny (the waiter) was too busy talking to the table across from us (for about 10 minutes) and then the table behind us. Finally, after my food was cold and no napkins were had, I didn't want my meal after my husband had practically finished his, so I stopped the nearest person and sent it back. Alas, my husband loves the sampler platter he got. The meats were very tender and the rubs were delicious too. The sickest part is that he came over several times after and acted like nothing was wrong. Look you douchebag, we all make mistakes sometimes and I'm fine with that. But if you never apologize and admit to it, that's grimy as heck. When we got the check, I confronted him about it, and he said he had no idea what had happened, he thought maybe I hadn't liked my dish. He "didn't" realize that my dish wasn't on the check either. Riiiiight, servers don't check the bills before they give it to their customers. I was also surprised the manager didn't do anything about it on our check. Please, for your dining services, don't request this guy. Don't walk, Run as far away as possible. Maybe someone BESIDES Sonny can provide you with better service, but I'll never be returning.

I've been here a few times and my experiences have varied. I will say that I do LOVE their bisket nachos. I've been disappointed with other entrees and decided that this app will be my meal if I ever go here. I am a huge fan of brisket and pulled port, however, when you order their platter, it is accompanied by large chunks of fat and gristle. It's a little off putting and when my platter is 1/4 inedible, it kind of makes me mad I spent the money. I will go back, mainly for their nachos, but i'll only go if someone else wants to. I won't go out of my way to go to Doc Crows.

We wanted to try something new so we turned to YELP and searched Market Street restaurants. Parking was easy, there is a lot across the street. We were seated immediately, though the server seemed in a hurry. We ordered drinks and apps at the same time and before the apps (peel and eat shrimp, the 1/2 pound was good, but we could have gone through a full pound) were on our table she was asking if we knew what we would like for dinner. I ordered the Blackened Tilapia with etouffee and Louisianan Style Dirty Rice. My date ordered Pork Chops that came with a HUGE serving of Mashed potatoes that we could serve our whole families on. Everything was delicious and we really enjoyed the meal. it is great that Louisville has so many unique places right in the heart of the city.

Holy palette pleaser Batman!! This place was deeeeeeelish! Passing through the area on the way home and thanks to the suggestions of fellow yelpers we opted to chow down here. Sooo good! Our table loved everything. We had pulled pork atop Texas toast with green beans and Mac n cheese for the sides-OMG SO good. One of My besties had shrimp and grits--AWESOME! The other, had the salmon atop a bed of wilted spinach; both of them raved about their dishes. The place is huge, busy and loud -- lots of great energy. The staff is alert and knowledgeable, We had several servers checking in on us. This place is so good and I will travel here again just to have dinner

This place was awesome! We got there as soon as they opened, so we got a table right away. The food and drinks were so good. I had the oysters for an appetizer and the shrimp and oyster po' boy for an entree, both of which were so good, I've been ranting about them since we left. And the service here was outstanding! Our server was very knowledgable and always making sure we were okay. We will definitely be coming back as soon as we get back to Louisville!

We came here for dinner Sunday night - the bar was pretty busy at 545pm already, but we managed to find two spots. We hear that this place gets so slammed that you can barely walk anywhere - so if you plan to come here, make a reservation or come on off hours! We were stuffed from a late lunch out at Jim Beam's onsite restaurant. I made the decision to eat pulled pork TWICE today. At Doc Crows, we ordered a drink and my guy got a oyster/shrimp po'boy, and I ordered a glass of wine and the baked potato filled with pulled pork, sour cream, cheese, and bacon. I didnt think it was going to be large - but my potato was the size of my head. It had a great smokiness about it - almost like it was stored in the smoker for a bit of time while it was cooking. The po'boy was great - I was only offered one shrimp and one oyster and by the time I had chewed those little guys, my man had eaten the entire sandwich. I was stuffed to the brim by the time i "completed" my meal... There was about half the potato left, but I managed to eat all the pulled pork (how could I not?!?!) The couple next to us at the bar had some really lovely looking oysters. I was tempted to get some, but I know May isnt really oyster season so I refrained. Next time, Doc Crows.... next time.

Unique location on Whiskey Row about two blocks from the river. The food is very good but the place is always packed for dinner (I've never been there for lunch). Please do not be surprised if you're a table of 6+ and it takes 45+ minutes for a table. Out of anything, I recommend the unique Bourbon cocktail drink selection. Wonderful choices and you're in Kentucky; why not go a little crazy on trying a new cocktail?! They do an amazing job!

I must find a place in Baltimore that can serve cocktails as wonderful as these! Delicious mint julep lemonade and the old crow. I didn't try anything more than the pork and the beef brisket tacos. Both were so delicious that I decided to just keep on going with the appetizers and ordered more tacos! The staff were extremely friendly. They were attentive (I was at the bar) but not to the point of being annoying. And they definitely let me take my time. Wonderful establishment!

The place was hopping. Fun place for a party atmosphere , loud and noisy. Service was mediocre . Sat at the bar as there was a 30 minute wait. Slow to take order but food came quickly. Shrimp cocktail OK. Prefer my shrimp cool or cold and not warn. Gumbo OK. Not on the high end but OK. Wedge salad was Good. I noticed that none of the employees were smiling . It appeared that they do not enjoy their job. That typically is due to leadership, management or the owner. They set the work atmosphere. Smiles mean bigger tips. Maybe they need more help at busy times.

Both times I visited Doc Crow's it was an enjoyable experience. I love how it's located on Whiskey Row. Those buildings are so beautiful. They have a killer selection of bourbon as well as a range of fresh cocktails. I've tried their brisket tacos (Very good!), catfish po boy (huge piece of fish) & my very favorite the peel and eat shrimp. I could eat those every single day. Wonderful seasoning with tangy house made cocktail sauce. Just lovely! Another thing I really like is Doc Crow's own special house beer. Very tasty!

I was looking for a place with good BBQ and Bourbon for my first night in Louisville, and I am glad that I found this place. I went with the BBQ sampler and it was delicious. The drinks were also very nicely prepared. It made for a great first night in KY. I will defiantly be back next time I am in town.

So, it was my birthday. (Well, not really. My birthday is Feb. 29, so I didn't HAVE ONE this year. The pain and the trials...) My wife asked me where I wanted to eat for dinner. I said to her that I was feeling Doc Crow's. A few things... We didn't make a reservation. We really should have. It was absolutely slammed when we arrived. And we should have know that it would be. Saturday night n' all. Well, the lady at the counter said that it would be an hour wait. I had a suspicion that she was telling porky pies... I figured that she would discourage walk-ins from coming in by saying that the wait was going to be this big long thing, because she had so many reservations... Sure enough, we were seated in 15 minutes. Again, I don't know if that's a coincidence or that was always going to happen. But it made me decide that I'll never not have a reservation again. We were seated and our waitress was fantastic. I wish I had gotten her name. Young lady with short, blonde hair. Very professional and genuinely wanted us to have a good dining experience. Explained the menu in detail... She was fantastic. I went with the Smokehouse Sampler, so that I could try several different meats. I went with the ribs instead of the chicken, and I went with the St Louis style instead of the baby back. THAT was a good decision on my part. Those were the best ribs that I've had in this city. They were very meaty. A meal in themselves. And it was only a half rack. As well, the char on the ribs was deep and thick. EXACTLY what you want. They had an amazing flavor. In fact, the next time I go, I'll be getting this. The beef brisket was good, also. Were prepared very well. I would say that the beef brisket was "normal to good." However, my friend ordered the beef brisket sandwich for her dinner, but she was concerned with the amount of fat that would come on the meat. Our waitress, being her amazing self, said that she can make sure it is a lean cut of brisket, so that won't be an issue. Awesome. The last item was the pork with fried onions. I have to say - I didn't care for this item. They had a vinegar on the pork... and I like vinegar, but I wasn't expecting it. So it kinda made me ill a little bit. I just wasn't able to finish the pork. Overall, I think it was very good. I'll definitely go back, and I'll go back a lot. The ribs were great. The brisket was good. The service was amazing. The pork could have been better. But, you can't get everything right. Solid four stars.

Drinks are way overpriced; they are one shot. The food is mediocre. My husband's poboy was just okay: the shrimp were soggy. His gumbo had burnt roux and hardly any seafood! My oysters are very fresh and I'm enjoying them very much. The crackers for the oysters were a generic brand and stale. You kinda feel you're getting ripped off.

My fam and I were driving from Georgia to Chicago. Had a taste for BBQ and Yelped for info. along the way. We saw the great reviews posted for Your restaurant and detoured our way into Louisville. Great food...but the service was just ok. It was very busy so no problem there. If we were in a rush we might have minded. We will definitely try them again if we are ever again in Louisville!

Came here during Thunder over Louisville. Came with a group of 12 and we were recommended Doc Crow's. I am a HUGE BBQ fan. I'm so undecided about what to order when I come eat BBQ that I typically over-order and over-eat. This was nothing new here. I ordered the Catfish Po-Boy because it sounded amazing and it was pretty good. I cant say it was the best Po-Boy, probably not even top 3 but it was perfectly acceptable. I also ordered a rack of baby back ribs (to split with someone else who loved to try many options) and they were also simply OK. While the meat didn't tear away at the slightest pull like they should, they weren't tough. The flavor was OK in terms of rub, but the smoke was nearly non-existent. I would not recommend these to anyone who LOVES ribs. We also got their smoked wings which are basically hot wings smoked, then fried and then tossed in sauce. I'm not sure why they fry these. I feel all the smoke flavor got lost (or maybe was never there if the ribs were any indication). These wings, were also forgettable. Another friend of mine got the Rib-Eye steak which they couldn't finish (was a big piece) so they let me have a bite and it was fine. I don't know how much I can knock a BBQ place against a steak, but it wasn't a great steak by any means. This place to me, was simply OK. The table was very split amongst the people who loved it and people who thought it was average. No one hated it. Doubt I'd be back since I'd like to try other places in Louisville. I am surprised at the high ratings for this place on very mediocre (in my opinion) BBQ.

If you are looking for a great lunch venue downtown Louisville look no further! Within walking distance of many businesses this is a perfect location to grab some work friends and escape for a little while. I had been told that it was known for its BBQ and people were not lying. I had some very tough decision making to do while looking at the menu! Do I get a pulled pork BBQ sandwich? The wings? The burger? It all looked so good! I decided to get the Heap'n chips, which is their version of nachos. A ginormous portion of chips topped with their cheese, BBQ sauce, chicken or brisket ( I chose brisket), sour cream, and other toppings as you wish! When this plate of chips came to the table my eyes almost popped out of my head, and I could hear my stomach laughing at me!! This portion could easily feed 5 people and the price was more than fair! I did not come close to finishing this meal even with help from my coworker! I did the best I could though because they were so good! I cannot wait to go back and try all the different options available! I recommend you do the same!

For the life of me why does my sister insist that I eat at these "so-called" BBQ establishments?!?! WTF? Louisville? I really, really want to use foul language, but I'm afraid Yelp will censure me. I had quite a few issues with this establishment, however I'm will start with the good. 1. Bourbon drinks were AMAZING! I got some bitter type bourbon drink and loved it! There was some issue in my party with the unavailability of a sweeter type wine, but I don't know anything about that since I have been successful in avoiding Type II Diabetes. They should have got bourbon. 2. Fried oysters were DA BOMB! I wish more were offered in the order, but it is the right amount if you plan to get an entree. 3. Fried pork rinds were good, even better with the sauce that came with the oysters. You all should consider serving the pork rinds with that sauce. 4. Fried catfish/greens were good. I was not disappointed since my sister "claimed" that the greens were not well seasoned based in a past visit. I typically ignore her food critiques since she has that Negrotized palate which leans towards more salt, fat and sugar. People wonder why black folk have high risk of Type II Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol. Again, I have been very successful avoiding these ailments. I had zero issues with my entree. But... 5. The green beans were far from being "Southern". Those were some hipster, healthy creation to appease the palate of the untrained. Real southern green beans are cooked down and not crunchy. I advise if there is a table of black folk and someone selects green beans as their side dish, steer them away as they will be kind of angry with the misrepresentation. Also, if you need a lesson on how to make southern style green beans, you can hire my mother as a consultant. 6. People complained that their ribs were dry. Ribs are supposed to be moist and fall off the bone. 7. The free sample of pulled pork was unseasoned. I'm literally baffled that no BBQ place in Louisville seasons the meat! Be aware BBQ is not about the sauce, it's the meat. The sauce is a condiment, if I need to put BBQ sauce on my rib, brisket, pulled pork, etc. your shit ain't cooked right. I have lived in Texas for about 15 years and I know BBQ. I think you all really need to consult either with @texasbbqtv or take a road trip to Texas and checkout some football tailgates, specifically Royal's Lounge. These guys at Royal's Lounge may even come to Louisville to show you how to season and smoke your meat for a consultation fee. They know their shit. Trust me, I will be back. I love the atmosphere and the location. The bar area looks great and you all have a top notch selection of bourbon. Loved the fried oysters! Keep in mind, I'm still pissed about the BBQ.

I do recommend them. Food: Good food. I'm partial to the BBQ Drinks: My medical status prevents me from providing info here. Darn-it. My son=in=law was able to get a shot Pappy Van Winkle!!!! Facility: The pride in ownership shows. Restrooms were clean. I prefer the backroom, the window seats at the front are my next choice. Staff: Our waitress was spot on. Manager Never saw one. Overall: 4.8 stars out of 5 Good food. Efficient staff. Great atmosphere.

Excellent southern food with a legit selection of bourbon cocktails! The fried pork chop sandwich is one of the best I've enjoyed in a long time and is very flavorful and tender without being greasy or tough. This was served with homemade potato chips which had lots of flavor. The bourbonini drink is unlike anything I've seen elsewhere as it is a peach belini made with bourbon. I'll be back here next time I'm in town and will probably check out their BBQ next time.

I'm not a bbq aficionado. The service was good and friendly. What I liked the most was the pulled pork sandwich wasn't full of fatty meat. It was a nice pile of lean pulled pork, just the way I like it. However, it lacked the smoked flavor that you look for at a bbq joint. The sweet potato fries were really good. This is more of an upscale restaurant than your bbq shack-type places.

I visited for an early dinner on a Sunday evening at 5pm. There was no wait and we were seated at a high top. The atmosphere is very casual. We were facing the bar and could watch basketball on the TVs. I ordered the fried green tomatoes and they were excellent. I ordered the cajun chicken sandwich with fries. The food was good and I will be a return customer.

One of my favorite lunch places. The burgers are phenomenal, and I can never say no to the fried okra.

We dined her on vacation from San Diego and we loved everything that we ordered. We ordered a chicken Cesar salad, brisket sandwich, pulled pork sandwich and the BBQ chicken. All was delicious. Sides were good too! Try the baked beans and the Mac and cheese! Service was great too. A must when in Louisville!

Great food and incredible service. They didn't have a gluten free menu but were extremely knowledgable about what is gluten free on there menu. The brisket sandwich was incredible! I would highly recommend this restaurant for a delicious meal!

Although we had high hopes for Doc Crows, it was certainly disappointing. My husband and I are from out of state. By recommendation of a friend, we made a reservation at Doc Crows. When we arrived, we were taken to a high top table. Being a fairly short person, high tables are not comfortable for me. If we had known, we would have made our reservation to exclude this type of table. Instead, we asked if we could have a low table. The hostess very abruptly yanked the menu she had just placed on the table, rolled her eyes, and without saying a word, began walking us to a new table. For an appetizer, we ordered a dozen oysters. They were stunning. Very fresh. The platter came with a horseradish and cocktail sauce mixture. The combination was perfection! We decided to have a salad before sharing an entree. I ordered the house salad that feature smoked tomatoes and a tomato vinegar dressing. It was awesome! The smoked tomatoes were a unique concept for a salad. Served cold and delicious. My husband and I shared the BBQ platter that included beef brisket, pulled pork and baby back ribs. It was plenty of food to share without having had an appetizer and salad as well. However, and the reason for a three star review, the BBQ was simply sub-par. The brisket was irregularly fatty, to the point that it was unpleasant to eat. The pulled pork was topped with a stack of greasy fried onions. The ribs had decent flavor but were very dry. For sides we had mashed potatoes and fried okra. The potatoes were good but plain and the okra unseasoned (we both had to add salt and pepper). Perhaps we are spoiled with BBQ back home in Dayton, Ohio. You would think for the price, and supposedly specializing in BBQ, that it would have been spectacular. This visit unfortunately left us wanting. Go for the oysters, avoid the BBQ.

Doc Crow's is tasty, tasteful, and a great place to go for Southern-style food and drinks. It's not one of my big favorites in town, but their menu is diverse and interesting, and the atmosphere is one part fancy and one part chill. If a friend came in from out of town, this would be one restaurant on the list of potential places to dine.

We came here to quench our thirst after being outside in the heat at Forecastle Fest. Service at the bar was fast and friendly. Beer was cold and refreshing. We ordered Oysters. They were sourced and shucked well, served on ice...great! The Caesar Salad was crisp and delicious with pork crackling croutons. Bartenders were excellent so we had a few more beers and tried the chip nachos. Holy cow! Fresh crisp house made potato chips with smoky succulent pulled pork on top with all the fixings. This was an awesome dish! A great spot to eat and drink.

My go-to choice for dinner in Downtown Louisville. Great bourbon selection & cocktails. Never had anything here that I wouldn't order again. Of course the BBQ is great but the fried green tomatoes and peel and eat shrimp don't disappoint either!

I got the salmon and it was really good and cooked perfectly. The cornbread cake was really yummy. The service was ok. We had to flag down a waiter several times. The drinks were very good but $9.00 for a cocktail.

This was my first time here and it is a definite gem. Had the pork rinds and fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. The pork rinds were AMAZING. The tomatoes were not the best I have had, but we're decent. I had the doc's chicken with fried okra and Mac n cheese. This is probably the best smoked chicken I have ever had. The okra was also super amazing. The Mac n cheese was just ok but I'm a mac n cheese snob so that's not surprising. The service was great and I definitely recommend it.

This is my first review on Yelp since starting to use the app a couple of years ago and this place has finally compelled me to write something. I was in Louisville this week on business and I saw Doc Crow's flash up on the marquee at the hotel I was staying at. The words Raw Bar and Smokehouse caught my attention as these are the type of establishments I am drawn to and combining them into one place well..... to say the least I was intrigued. I finally got my chance to visit them last night and my anticipation was well rewarded. First there were the oysters -fresh shucked and a succulent delight. A couple of weeks earlier I had been on the east coast and dined on oysters and there was no comparison. Doc has oysters right.... Next were the pork rinds, what a novel concept, fresh, made to order pork rinds. For the pork rind lover, I have nothing further to say other than ya gotta get some. Ditto for those that have never tried pork rinds. Oh, by the way, did I mention I was there for the ribs? Had a slab of baby backs that were cooked perfectly, here is where I can find only one imperfection in the evening, not wild about the flavor of the dry rub but it was still tasty. The braised greens on the side made the perfect combination. Had an early flight this morning and order the full slab to cover breakfast and damn glad I did. The ribs were just as good the second time around this morning with a little left for lunch. And yes they are TSA friendly, cuz I made it home with some just fine. And now the finale - THE WILBUR SUNDAE. A perfect end to a carnivore's romp in the woods. Ice cream and bacon, been there... but add pork rinds? Hell yeah! I seldom order desert but could not say no - it was manifest destiny that I meet up with such a creation and I can only say thank you Doc for making my dreams come true. There is still hope for the culinary world out there. As far as service and the operation itself I have to say impressive. The atmosphere was an odd combination of a comfortable bar setting and foo foo foodie establishment the later not as appealing to me. It worked for me however and everyone seemed friendly especially the bar staff (I sat at the bar), and the service was incredibly efficient. My food was up quick and freshly made when it touched down on the bar. I have dined all over the nation and there are only a couple of places I revisit on my journeys. I pleased to say I now have a third -Doc Crows... Well done!

I had waited months to get a reservation that worked for us. And I finally got one for my sons 14th birthday! From the moment we arrived to was a wonderful experience. We had their "nachos" and they were beyond delicious. Over all the meal was great and the staff was very friendly. I wish I could give Doc Crows more than just five stars! TIP: Come here for your birthday and they will give you any dessert of your choice!!!

Visited this establishment with a group of eight a couple weeks back and had a decent experience so we were going to return with even a larger group 16-20 and was told they could not accommodate us due to a large party already booked that night and offered us a later time which is understandable. What I did not appreciate was when calling back to confirm the later time, it was not convenient for them to even take my reservation and was told to call back later when it was more convenient for them. They didn't take my number to call me back, did not seem interested in my business and came across very arrogant and uncaring. My money will spend somewhere else quite easily. I will not return.

First time here and my goodness was it good!! On top of gluten-free options, the staff was friendly and the service was prompt. I got the cheese grits with shrimp and andouille sausage and they were the bomb!! It's enough to feed 2 people, and I have some leftovers to look forward too! And the heapin chips with brisket everyone raves about is worth the money!! I could make a meal out of that!!!! Can't wait to go again!!

Another delightful downtown dining option. They specialize in bbq and they do it well. The pulled pork and the ribs are a definite must try, and the Mac and cheese is a delicious option for your side. They have a ton of seating so large parties can be accommodated easily. Great for families or meeting friend for a drink.

Sampler Platter review...Man oh man....the St. Louis ribs and the house - made BBQ Sauce are the thing to order. Pulled pork was very good, too. Skip the brisket....it was rubbery and too chewy. Mac and cheese was pretty good. Hush puppies have jalapeños so if you don't like them steer clear. Bar service was ok for lunch. The place is very long. Very cool interior. I want those floors in my house. As expected, bourbon selection is extensive.

Had a lot of fun here and was able to book a table for 8 pretty late in the day - though it was a weeknight (and cold!) For starters, we ordered the Heap of Chips (with both the briskett and the pulled pork) and the mussels. Both were tasty and the portions hearty. They use BBQ (I think?) kettle chips for the "Nacho like creation" and the mussels come in a tasty sauce which you will try to not just drink like soup. Oysters on the half shell ... though not very clean shucks. I like that they give you horseradish with the sauce. I ended up getting the filet mignon which was excellent. I think I just like eating steak when it's cold outside. It was prepared just how I like it (medium rare) and it came on a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes, one of the more expensive entrees on the menu, but still good value for the price. Best of all, get the Bold Fashioned ... it's Doc Crow's version of the Old Fashioned. It's a 1 cocktail cocktail .... not a 2 cocktail sort of cocktail if you get what I mean. It's excellent but it borders on making a bad decision.

Based on my personal preferences and previous reviews, I ordered the pulled pork baked potato ... with sour cream, of course! YUMMERS!!! I also had side of fried okra ... Perfection! Hubby and I shared an order of fried green tomatoes. Some of the best FGTs ever! Our 12 year old son ordered Mac n cheese ... He didn't care for it. It was probably too upscale or simply didn't taste like "Annie's" Note: This review is limited to my portion of the meal - My darling husband had pork? Ribs.... Which were reportedly dry and didn't look enticing to me at all. Service: We stopped by on a Sunday night and it took -10 mins to get seated. In general, the servers seemed stretched thin Drink recommendation: Mint Julep made with Vodka Server recommended that my husband try Jefferson Bourbon.. I tried a sip and it was the smoothest bourbon I have ever tried. I could enjoy this! Lesson learned (reminder to hubby) when you're in a new city go with recommendations on yelp!

Came here with my husband and a friend from out of town. The place is huge and packed. Service was pretty fast. I don't recommend the pork rinds. I've had better out of a bag. I had the baby back ribs. They were dry and a bit on the spicy side. They were just okay. The greens and the macaroni and cheese were pretty good. My husband had the grilled Cajun chicken sandwich. He found a small bone and said it didn't have much flavor. I don't think we'll be back.

Was driving through Louisville on a road trip and stopped here based on Yelp reviews. I was pleased but mom was not happy. I ordered the Dixie chicken sandwich and wow. That is some Kentucky fried chicken. I got it with sweet potato fries and they were good enough, not the best, not the worst. Mom ordered the beef brisket sandwich and ended up sending back the brisket because it was way too fatty. Waiter brought her another plate of brisket and she was satisfied after that.

Very cool restaurant with a great selection of whiskeys that you can also get just as a taste. There's a burger with everything on it including on it including pulled pork, brisket, onion rings, fried green tomatoes and who knows what else. My daughter had the fried catfish and loved it. The brisket was good, but a little dry. I'll go with something else next time most likely. Spinach salad - once of the best I have had. Sides are extra so be prepared to spend a bit more here.

This place is great. Not sure why the ratings aren't higher. Mussels appetizer, a nice amount of heat. Catfish was cornmeal crusted and delicious. Some heat to the Cole slaw, which I liked. I ate with four other people here; all got different meals and all loved them. My wife is probably not going to shut up about the mac-n-cheese for a while. Oh, and the Man on Fire cocktail was great.

Again, this is Louisville, and this was as close as I got to great BBQ. Not really because I didn't look, but mostly because I didn't have time to get to Owensborough. I got the pork rinds, which were exactly what I wanted. The guy I went out with got the Oysters Rockefeller, which were not what I wanted, but were really very good. I'm used to oysters that were in the ocean earlier that same day, and while not so amazingly fresh I cried tears of joy... they were plenty fresh and the whole dish was awesome. I got the brisket, and it was tender, flavorful, and served on a thick piece of white bread that was very good. It wasn't the most amazing brisket I've ever had, but it was hands down the best beef dish I had while down here. (Best chicken dish goes to Sway, btw) Homeboy I was with had the ribs, and he enjoyed them, but the entrees weren't the star of the show. The mac and cheese was. If you've read any of my other reviews you'll note that I love cheese. When I say love, it's with a capital L, and involves a lot of feelings I need to discuss with my therapist. There are 10 cheeses in this bowl of macaroni, and I could pick out 4 or 5 of them. There was a sharp cheddar, a gouda, some parmesan and romano, and I think the topping was another shredded cheddar. It was -awesome- truly, and if you get only one thing from here... make it this. Big fan.

My cousin brought me here for lunch on my first day back to Kentucky. She ordered the Heapn' chips for the table and when the plate came out we were all wide eyed and drooling. It was like a heapin' mountain of deliciousness! Yum. We tried devouring it, but even with 5 people we were only able to get it down to a hill. Of course, I purposely was saving my stomach for the Beef Brisket Sandwich that I had ordered. The star of the sandwich was the brisket itself, and I wondered if I should have just ditched the carb bookends and just had the meat itself. Oh well, next time. Overall thoughts: the food was good, but I've actually had better brisket back here in CA.

Made reservations through yelp several days ahead but got a table at the kitchen. I asked if we could move to another table, we were told that we could not since they were all reserved. There were numerous tables that were vacant. Service was very friendly and gave good advice but went long periods of not to be seen. I got the sampler with the chicken. There was plenty of food but the brisket was a bit cold. My wife got the salmon and said it was good as well.

Great staff and the food was pretty good too. Kind of an eclectic menu and I'm not sure how the name fits the menu. I got the ribs, they were pretty good. The staff was helpful, I appreciate that. The decor is pretty cool and the place is very large with an open kitchen.

Great place! Had some brisket tacos that were amazing! The cole slaw and fried jalapeños really kicked this dish off. Never would I have thought of making tocos like this.....delicious. Pulled pork sandwich was great too....but the salmon was to die for. Cooked perfect. Can't wait to go back.

Thanks yelp! We stopped in last weekend based on recommendations from yelp! as well as location to the hotel. We sat at the bar and the servers (Jennifer & Courtney) were awesome!! Friendly, personable, and knowledgeable about the area. Courtney made a great Manhattan and beer recommendations were excellent. Started with oysters, very good!! Make sure to try the vinaigrette that comes with them. The filet was cooked to perfection and brisket tacos were delicious! Great atmosphere, creative bar and restaurant ideas. Staff handled all types of customers with grace and professionalism. Thanks so much!! We'll definitely visit again on our next trip!

I was excited to come back to Louisville after my really great first time there. A friend of a friend's 3rd cousin removed suggested this would be a good place to go. Luckily enough, this was right across the street from my hotel!! So after a long drive I was ready to dive in. After my meal, I had to walk 12 miles to work the food off. (seriously). The deets: *A shit ton of bourbon. The bar staff was very knowledgeable and loved talking about their bourbon. They also had a great beer selection. *Ribs: yum. They didn't fall of the bone like I semi expect them to, you had to work a bit harder to get enough meet but they were really good, not *Fried okra: I had to peel off some of the fried stuff. but the okra was great and not mushy. *Mac and cheese: great texture and good cheese balance Disclaimer: I am not from the south, nor do I pretend to know anything about BBQ. In fact I just stopped using A-1 sauce last week. This is smack dab in the middle of downtown across from Yum! arena.

All I did in Louisville was EAT! This place is in downtown by the KFC Yum Center. I ordered the tacos and a wedge salad. Food was gooooooood, prices reasonable...but their desserts are the best way to top off your meal. Staff very friendly and ambiance screams "cool!" Glad the wife and I stopped by.

New place within walking to the YUM Center and other bars and eateries. Decor is brick and hardwoods making the noise level a bit noisy but this adds to the energy level of the restaurant. We walk past the bar, windowed kitchen and a large main dining area towards the back, felt like we walked to the Ohio River. A very decent wine selection but our server could not help much since it just changed that day...maybe true but the Pinot Noir selected was perfect. We overdosed on raw oysters and proceeded to order ribs, pulled pork, steak, fish, fried green tomatoes, crabcake, fried okra and did I mention oysters? Someone in my group mentioned birthday boy and out came a Comfy Cow ice cream with bacon served on top of pork rinds! If you're going to be bad, be really BAD...it was great...salty, sweet, crunchy. Service for our large group was excellent and handled without stress or missing anything. Check out this area if you want less of the Fourth Street Live action while Downtown.

A Louisville native pointed us toward Doc Crow's, and we had the good sense to listen. A bourbon emporium (over 100!) with a menu centered around savory meats from their own smokehouse- pork, ribs, chicken, and southern specialties like fried okra and green tomatoes, hush puppies, and bread pudding with bourbon sauce. Oysters and shellfish looked superfresh on their mountains of shaved ice. We started with pork rinds for the table - first time I ever had them made fresh. They arrived crackling from the fryer, and after I got over my terror at the spitting and popping noises they made I concluded that fat fried in fat with your choice of bourbon neat on the side may be as close to the sublime as you have a right to expect in downtown Louisville. I'd go back anytime to hole up in a dark comfortable booth to sample exotic bourbons and eat a filling, mouthwatering Southern dinner. Bourbon menu is extensive, and you can try a small sample or get a full drink, so it's possible to try a few without getting snookered. Huge food portions - we had to take some home. Our waiter was poised and knowledgeable.

It's remarkable how many Louisville restaurants are either closed Monday or open only for dinner. Doc Crow's takes that admirable appreciation for rest a step further and closes on Sunday. But that may simply be because they're in the heart of downtown and count on a certain amount of business traffic. They certainly put on a classy business lunch. Doc Crow's is dressed up Southern, but they specialize in barbecue and oysters. It's a fulsome menu that stops short of offering every Southern favorite. With their classic cocktails and impressive bourbon selection, they play well into that niche of bobo nostalgia for simpler times and places that goes well with the historical nature of this town. My pulled pork sandwich came on a butcher-paper-lined metal tray, but the presentation was strikingly clean. It came loaded with what must be house-made pickles and slaw. A thin vinegar and thick tomato based sauces are on offer tableside. This comes served with house-made, crunchy potato chips that beg for a glass of their sweet tea. Doc Crow's does the tradition proud in a setting that works for downtown Louisville.

Heap o chips. PBR. 100 types bourbon. Cool place. The seafood is pricey, but that's too be expected when you're not near the ocean. The pulled pork is delish. The bourbon selection is amazing, a bit pricey though. You can drink Maker's Mark in Germantown all day for $3 a pour.

Went there on Saturday Night. Went with another couple. We had heard great things, and they had been there before. I am fine with the atmosphere. You go to a hot place on a saturday night and you expect noise. No biggie. Let's talk about the food. For the appetizer, we got the fried green tomatoes and the Heap n chips. I was not a huge fan of the chips. And I was diesppointed that the fried green tomatoes were not hand breaded. They were frozen. I understand that, due to the volume they likely sell, but it is still disappointing. There are ways to prep and do them by hand. The sauce on them was great though. For dinner, I got the catfish. The taste was decent. Was not a fan of the hushpuppies. The portion was a little small. Would not get it again. It was decent though. Was disapointed with the quantity and there should be at least one regular side included. My wife got Brisket and Okra. She liked it. Dessert was the Wilbur Sundae. I liked it, but it is a complex and confused dish. Lot of stuff happening. I would get it again. But would also be open to trying other desserts. Overall, it was ok. The place is a little confused: Raw Bar, Southern, BBQ. Odd combo and it seems they are unable to do one of them great. I guess they do them all well, but not great. I will go again, but will not fight people to get there.

Giant Frosty Stella. Beer so cold, ice forms at the top. Yum! Food was solid. I encourage sharing with table mates as the "suppers" are heavy. Skip the hush puppies. Mussels were surprisingly very good. Fried green tomatoes made me smile. Our waiter needed more training on the oyster bar - his attempt at a recommendation wasn't particularly helpful. Atmosphere is cool and spacious. Parking was easy. Great people watching. This seems like a great place to enjoy from the bar.

Best service in Louisville! I love everything about this place. Do yourself a favor and try the beef brisket tacos. We prefer to eat dinner at the bar and we were so happy we did. We had the best bartender. She helped us make great choices and she was a master at cocktails. We can't wait to go back! Definitely a breath of fresh air in this town.

A hostess should be warm and inviting, not staring down while they grumble "how are you" to the desk, then with what seemed like an attitude at 5:30 p.m. when the place was nearly completely empty proceed to tell me that they jave a table but we must be finished before 7. Gee I dont know you tell me, will I be served in time to get out of your hair by then? Cause I've never been here amd you're making a terrible impression. The table offered to us was all chairs amd there were no boosters only highchairs. So since I had my 2 1/2 year old with me and was told that all other tables were reserves unless we waited an hour. (All the tables were empty but 5 that I could see) some sort of massive event must've been happening so i'll remain with 4 stars, but some better CS wouldve been appreciated.

Very good place! The meats from the "off the smoker" section of the menu were a hit for everyone who ordered. The portions were large enough to share, the bar and restaurant atmosphere are modern, not your typical BBQ place at all. The service was friendly and the place was really unique. I would recommend!

  • Jacob M.

I love this place. Decent beer list, but it's really about about the bourbon here! It was Derby day and my birthday, so we all had a round of Pappy 23!!!!! It is a rare find, and expensive, but very enjoyable. I have never had a bad meal here, and highly recommend the pulled pork 'nachos' to split with everyone at the table...it is so much food. I usually experience poor service here, so don't expect too much (however, I did have good service on this visit). This is a slightly on the upscale side, but not pretentious.

We ate there with friends and were very happy. We had a variety of items (ribs, brisket, fish) and everyone was pleased with their selections. They also have some pretty good beer options. The service was good and the food came out quickly. The menu was expansive and while some of the items seemed a little overpriced, not unreasonably so for the area. We'll eat here again for sure.

This place has a southerner-wanna-be-a-hipster vibe. The space takes up the length of a city block downtown. The oysters are usually pretty good. I've lived in Memphis and Kansas City, and can safely say skip the ribs. I'd even go as far as say skip any of the meat. Every red meat selection I've had has been dry. Made me lower my rating from 4 to 3 stars. There is a good selection of other food that you can go healthy, or true southern with hush puppies and other fried delicacies. Order any beer they serve in a chilled goblet; you will feel like a king.

Went here for our friends' going away dinner and we were impressed with the atmosphere and bourbon selection, as well as a few good beers on tap. I ordered the pulled pork dinner with sweet potato fries and my husband ordered the shrimp po boy with the baked beans. The pulled pork was very tender and I loved their BBQ sauce. The sweet potato fries were very tasty as well. My husband didn't care much for the baked beans, they were very soupy. He and I both really liked the shrimp po boy until about half way through the sandwich when we realized the shrimp were not deveined. They were smaller shrimp but the vein was VERY visable and it was pretty gross. Everyone at our table of 8 agreed that was not sanitary and they had never eaten anywhere that the shrimp were not deveined. When I told our server about it, she said she would ask the kitchen, which she did (the kitchen was directly behind our table so we saw her ask) and she returned to tell us that they don't devein the shrimp for the po boy or the peel and eat shrimp because "it's too time consuming." She did apologize, but didn't really know what else to do and just looked a bit lost. We weren't going to make a big fuss about it, but we were very turned off. So if you go here and prefer your shrimp deveined like we do, don't order the peel and eat or the po boy!

Ate here with a larger sized group on Friday night. It was good - had the oysters (delicious) and the smoked turkey (also very good). The service was really good from our waitress. The one gripe I have about this place is its theme. It's a raw bar, and a smoke house, with a very contemporary theme. The contemporary theme fits the raw bar / cocktails perfectly. But then for dinner you can have a slab of ribs or some brisket? I just don't see how that works well. I think it would have been better for this owner to focus this location on the raw bar and some newer american entrees. Then opened the smoke house at a second location.

Doc's has the best oysters in town and the best southern food I've ever eaten. The establishment has a amazing ambiance with great views, nice lighting, and a fantastic service to match. I highly recommend this place for a casual drink, a romantic dinner, or a night out with the family. Parties with 6 of more can place reservations. Enjoy!!

Let's talk about crab cakes, no let's talk about brisket... Or about the mint julep... This place left me smiling ear to ear. .... Hipster waiters.

Get the mussels and the loaded chips. We would have liked them better if they came with real cheese. Get the Lima beans for sure. A half rack of ribs are huge and the crab cakes were very crabby but rather small. Excellent cocktails.

The food is good here, definitely room for improvement... But not a bad place for drinks, the atmosphere is pretty cool. did i just just say cool... I'm not saying that the food is bad just saying that it has room to grow.

Thanks to the other reviews we stopped in for some BBQ during our road trip. Great food, very reasonable prices, super friendly staff. The beef brisket tacos were tremendous. My wife and kids loved the fresh baked cookies for desert.

We went here on a Saturday night and it was packe! I can see why! The food was excellent for the price. We had the heap o' chips appetizer!! YUMMMMM for only $6 followed by catfish dinners. The hushpuppies were not sweet (southern cooks make 'em sweet). the slaw, fries, catfish, roumelade sauce all had a sprinking of their dry BBQ rub in it which was great. The sweet tea was good. The beer was real cold (ice floating in it). Cant wait to go back and try the oysters and a po boy sandwich!!

Love, Love, Love this place!!! Found myself in Louisville this past week for a conference. The main group went to an off-site function and I decided to cool my heels and watch the Monday Night Football games (opening night had 2 of them). I asked the valet at our hotel for a place with great food, but that was casual. He immediately mentioned this place and a couple of the other valets nodded their heads in agreement. Off I went the couple block walk towards the river... Walked in and noticed a raw-bar near the front door, pulled up a seat at the bar in front of the TV. My server/bartender Courtney is an absolute doll and a great ambassador for Doc Crow's, she hooked me up with some good Kentucky bourbon and fried pork-chops, which were out of this world. After my meal, while watching the games, I noticed the diswashers at this place must have little to do, as every plate seemed to be picked-up like mine was... licked clean! Steve came on shift and for the next few hours was incredibly attentive to me and another solo patron I'd met who also wanted to try some of their extensive selection of single barrel bourbons. He took the time to explain and tell us stories about each one we tried, which made the whole experience VERY worthwhile. I had a wonderful Monday night at Doc Crow's... the atmosphere is very relaxing, the food outstanding and the service was fantastic!

Come on you can do better than that! I had the brisket and it was mediocre. This is Kentucky we should have some great BBQ-ish southern style brisket! I will say the fine selection of Bourbon earned you double points...along with service, dessert and modern decor. Look at you, making your own sauces. They were yummy, unfortunately it did not make my brisket taste any better. P.S. I love sweet potato fries! Thank you, come again.

Stopped by for a beer and ended up staying for a full meal! Glad I did...nice evening at the bar; the atmosphere was great but didn't look suitable for larger parties...looks like 5 would be the most that you could be comfortable with. Started off with a dozen raw oysters - chilled to perfection with a nice vinegar dip and cocktail sauce on the side-nice touch by putting a clump of horseradish in the sauce! Wanted to eat light since I wasn't planning on dinner, so I ordered the BBQ Brisket Taco's. Great voice as the Briskett was fall apart tender on a grilled flour tortilla in a bed of slaw topped with a few sliced jalepeno peppers. My companion had a turkey club that looked great and was big enough to last 2 beers :) I'll definitely make my way back there!

This was a pretty solid place. I like the layout of the place, plenty of space and nicely decked out. I ordered the St Louis style BBQ, a tasty, spicy rub, great BBQ sauce, the meat was mostly juicy and moist although some pieces were a tad try. Came with solid sweet potato fries. I also ordered a side of fried green tomatoes which were well fried, crunchy and came with a nice remoulade. When in Kentucky...very nice (long) bourbon list...pity it was a school night.

Two words: Spectacularly bland. Fried green tomatoes = bland. Brisket = sad forgettable sauce. Corn Bread = wake me up from this nightmare, pathetic! At first I was taken back that the protein did not come with sides (WTH!)...but after going through my meal Im glad I didn't select any. One star for a cool looking place, one star for good service, no stars for food "like."

Surprised to see all the good reviews. While it's a nice space and atmosphere, the food was just simply disappointing. Nothing special or unique at all. Had the beef brisket. It was a strange cut and stacked with raw onion and pickles on garlic toast. I thought the whole presentation was just odd and ended up scraping everything off to get at the beef. It was served on a tray with brown paper which showed me just how greasy and fatty this particular serving really was. Yes, I know it's brisket but I've been to many places over the years and not had brisket quite this fatty. Not the way to serve an overly fatty cut of meat. Their dirty rice was just poor - worst I've ever had. No seasoning at all - just bland, stale and greasy rice with some bits of meat that tasted bad - real bad. On a positive note, when I complained about the rice, they exchanged them for greens which were actually pretty good. At the risk of sounding like a food snob, I will say that I'm from Chicago so I have the chance to enjoy a lot of good food spots. After mixed reviews from hotel staff, I guess I just expected mediocre and ended up with poor.

Second time to Doc Crows. Arrived 5:30ish to dine before attending a show (3-5 blocks from venue), but was told no seating available without a 1 hour wait.....welcomed to eat at the bar. Eating at the bar not a problem for us, but during the hour and ten min we spent eating we saw LOTS of free tables. A table would have been nice. My food was mediocre at best. I had BBack ribs and they were dry and tasted as if left over from previous day's service. My wife had the shrimp and grits.....she was very pleased. Appetizer of doz oysters was excellent.....house bourbon based sauce for the oysters is wonderful. Drinks and service pretty standard. Price is on the high side, but you're centrally located downtown, close to multiple attractions....nice place to start off an evening in Louisville.

Met up with a group before they went to see A Christmas Story at Actor's Theater. We were seated in a room in the back of the restaurant which was cozy and separated from main dining room so they crowd noise was decreased. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. The server was knowledgeable about everything on the menu from the meats to the oysters. Our host explained that they had a curtain time to meet and the server was on top of it with drink orders followed by dinner choices. I got the brisket which was excellent. The sauce had a good amount of slow heat and not too sweet. Loved the side of braised greens! Dining companion next to me ordered the oysters on the half shell selection 3 varieties of oysters on the half shell. She delighted in the different flavors offered by each variety. The rest of the table seemed just as satisfied with their choices as well. Group didn't have time for dessert and the host had a door prize to give away prior to the show. One guess what it was. Clue: It may have been from Italy.

Terribly inconsistent. Had a great time last year but this year was completely hit and miss. Redfish was very good, brisket was dry and flavourless. The two types of ribs also suffered the same fate. Service was kinda "snooty" for no apparent reason. Sparkling water for our non-drinking guests was not available and the oysters arrived sans explanation of what they were... pretty hack!

My mother, sister and I spent a few days in the Louisville area. I looked on-line for great places to eat and Doc Crow's was one on the top of our list to try. We were NOT disappointed! Mom chose a wonderful burger and my sister chose the pulled pork nachos using their homemade fries. These nachos practically touched the ceiling they were so huge. The taste was FABULOUS too! My side salad was amazing with the great salad dressing. I was not so thrilled with my gumbo, but sharing my sister's nachos made me happy. If the gumbo was great, I would have given Doc Crow's five stars. The atmosphere was really cool, artsy, and fun and the staff was helpful.

Beer was cold, but so was the waiter. Brisket was ok, pulled pork was better. Don't waste time on the hush puppies. Overpriced for the serving size and way too dry.

We had business in Louisville, stopped a local and asked where to eat. Person suggested Doc Crows. We were not disappointed. Only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that we only ate appetizers and beer - delicious! I will definitely be back to try one of their entrees! Great atmosphere too.

I'm such a brat. My only reasons for not loving this place are not bc the food is bad (it's actually pretty good) or because the service sucks (it's decent) no, the reasons I can't love Doc Crows are bc I'm a spoiled snob, a purist, a Southerner... Whatever, at least I know what I am. This place does not. "Doc Crows Southern Smokehouse and Raw Bar" is the full name. The Menu includes oysters, po boys, Texas chili, crab cakes, a bunch of BBQ options, Burgers, yup it covers the south alright... whoa there. I'm a Southerner (from GA, lived in MS, TN, and now in Louisville,) and though those foods are indeed prominent in the south, they come from about 5 different areas of the south that specialize specifically in each of those menu items. You can't just put Gulf Coast style seafood on the same menu as BBQ, you just can't! Louisiana, though known for a lot of great things including seafood, BBQ is not one of them. Texas chili? Texas is considered the south the same way Florida is...it's not. Raw Food Bar?! I have yet to find one of those (owned by a southerner) in the south. You are casting your net too wide Doc Crows. You can't be everything and still expect to be great at any of them. When I want BBQ, I want to go to a BBQ place, not just for great flavor bc all the cooks know and have done their whole lives is slow cook BBQ, but bc I want the homey atmosphere and red checkered table cloths over picnic tables, I want to get messy and listen to live Blue Grass or raunchy Blues on the side of the road out in the middle of nowhere. When I want fried seafood, I want to go to a fried seafood joint, I want a basket full of fries and country or cajun music playing. I want my waitress to wear jeans and a bass pro t-shirt, her name is Flo and she is lovely. I don't ever want to be at a Raw Food Bar, but if I did, I want to be an asshole talking loudly about how much better food is if it's cooked below 200 degrees and chat about carrots behind my slick wire frame glasses and minimalist suit matched with my TOMS sandals. I want the experience that comes with these places, the experience to match the legendary food. I read in an earlier review that someone couldn't believe this wasn't a chain...I agree, it does feel very chain-y (which is not a compliment) and does not compliment any of the foods on the menu. That all said...as I mentioned earlier, I'm being a snob. The food is pretty good, prices are a tad high, but for the Whiskey Row area very reasonable. The wait staff could have a bit more southern hospitality since they are working at a 'southern' restaurant, but they weren't mean or hateful by any means. The atmosphere is clean, surgical almost, a lot of steel gray, white and black accented by boldly colored clean art and big windows. Great Whiskey and Bourbon selection at the bar... Don't let my purist BS get in your way from having a wonderful time, who knows maybe they're taking lots of rich histories and putting them all together into a big mixing bowl full of all sorts of great very distinct very different flavors and mashing them all together into one...big...hodgepodge...something...new...maybe?

My first impression? This place is overpriced and overhyped. If you want to try this place I would suggest making reservations. We called and got a 7:00 res. on a Thurs. evening. Right after we were seated it seemed to get really busy with people having to stand around or sit at the bar. Let's start with the fried green tomatoes...I love them, make them myself during the summer months, and know what good ones taste like. Doc Crows' fried green tomatoes did not seem homemade to me but rather the frozen out of a box and into the fryer variety. Very disappointing to dine at a place that touts itself as a Southern restaurant and can't even get fried green tomatoes right. Plus I paid $9 for 3 slices. That's $3 a slice, folks! Really? I tried the hush puppies and I thought they were pretty good, they were very spicy! My husband had the pulled pork, he loved it...I tried some and thought it was good but it didn't wow me or anything. I've had pulled pork BBQ at some mom and pop places that was better and cheaper. The service was...odd. At times she would be nice and attentive and at other times seem annoyed we were there. Kind of slow. My husband joked that they might be slow on purpose, you know, 'cause it's part of the whole Southern experience. Har. Whatever. We brought our two kids and they did fine. Our 7 year old devoured the turkey club sandwich and chips. There was enough commotion and noise level that I don't think our 2 year old annoyed any of the people sitting around us. This place would be great for older kids. To be honest, I'm on the fence about the whole experience. I would go back again but I wasn't that impressed. Meh.

I had never heard of this place before my first encounter. But after one time I will be coming back. I'm a huge oyster fan and they had a great selection for a Louisville establishment. The menu diverse enough for most tastes. I went with the pork chop's and greens and was amazed at the size and flavor of each. I'm typically a bit of a beer snob, but had the large serving of good old Fall's City. If you haven't had it since the 70's give a City another try. The service was as good as the meal. Don't miss Doc Crow's; I hope they have a long life here.

Menu has wide variety of foods. Nice wine selection. Very friendly and neighborly wait staff. Weekend late nights can get a little raucous, especially on game nights (sports arena just a block away).

While in Louisville for a wedding, I was desperate to find some good Southern bbq. Based on the rec of our hotel concierge we went to Doc Crow's. The pulled pork and the brisket were moist and well flavored. The sides (greens, pickles, bread, mac & cheese, etc) were all typical. Nothing crazy unique about it. A solid meal though.

If you're in the downtown area of Louisville, this is a reasonably priced BBQ place. I had the brisket. My friend had a BBQ sandwich, and another friend had the ribs. All of us thought it was good BBQ, tangy and fresh. My brisket had a bit of fat on it, but that's the case with brisket. The ribs fell off the bone. The lima beans were excellent and something I don't get often so I was pleased. All around a good meal and walked out under $20. That's without liquor.

Great sides and appetizers. My ribs were good but not great. Perhaps I should not have chosen the Baby back ribs and went for the St.Louis ribs. However; the ever long list of quality Bourbons definitely made up for the meal.

While on vacation we were looking for a good Saturday night dinner with a great drink menu and boy did we find it! We made reservations, and I would recommend doing the same! The place was really busy and also very loud. Lots of big parties while we were here. Our table was right in front of the kitchen, which we started out not liking, but we did get to see all the great food! This place has an incredible bourbon and whiskey list. Both my husband and I really enjoyed our cocktails. He had a Manhattan and I had a signature drink made with bourbon, grenadine and lemon. One of my favorite cocktails, ever! We chose the Fried Green Tomatoes as an appetizer and it was great!!!! It's a must have. We each had a sandwich for our main course. Mine, the brisket, his a Po-Boy. We both loved it. The brisket was great and the Brioche bun was superb. In summary, the food was a five and service was a four. I was a little put off by our table, after making a reservation, and when we first arrived I didn't feel that welcome. It took a while for our drinks to arrive, but after that our waiter warmed up and provided good service. Cool hipster vibe, great food, both at decent prices. Have a drink while your here and enjoy!

Excellent new add downtown in Louisville. The atmosphere is good, did a nice job with a bar and dining area in the back. Restaurant retains the old warehouse feel with semi modern decor but focused on the seafood and BBQ art. Oysters were good (perhaps small?) and the baby back ribs were very good. The food prices were very reasonable and cheap frankly, while the drinks were a bit more pricey. All in all I would definitely go back.

Just so you know my cred's when it comes to judging BBQ, I'm from the south AND I live in Kansas City and I'm telling you this place takes first place in my book. The food is great (smoked in house). The service is executed perfectly (friendly salt of the earth type waiters) and the atmosphere is, well, pick your choice. This establishment is long and skinny. They offer everything from cafe style seating to pub like, or deep stained wood paneled offering for a more intimate setting. The back room is like one big family dinning room. Bottom line, great food at lunch counter prices, top notch service and unique but purposeful atmosphere.

Lived in Louisville a year and always wanted to go to Doc Crows. I was SO disappointed...I'm not a picky eater, but both the seafood gumbo (barely warm) and the catfish (not even cooked throughly) were inedible. The only positives were good service and atmosphere. Sadly disappointed!

This place is a perfect example of how good food is only a portion of a great dining experience, because I have to say, while the food was good, it wasn't stellar. Everything else, however, was. My husband and I were visiting Louisville on vacation and he was jonesing for some great BBQ. So I asked for recommendations from a client I of mine in Louisville, who happens to be from Texas (as are the proprietors). He recommends Doc Crows and upon further research I found a recent Food & Wine article listing them as one of the 10 best new BBQ joints in the country. Sweet. We were sold. We arrived later on Friday night that we wanted (a complete cab company debacle, but that's for another review) and the wait was one hour. No problem. There are plenty of cool places to check out on Whiskey Row, so off we went exploring the nearby bars. We got a drinker two at different establishments, ending up next door to Doc Crows at O'Sheas (great pub, btw). We ordered our drinks and I popped into the restroom. I come back, and my husband got a call on his cell. It was Doc Crows saying our table was ready (this was 30 minutes after putting our names on the list). We were thinking, great we just got beers. My husband told the host at Doc Crows we were next door. The host pops over to tell us to take our time with our drinks and he would hold the table. How cool is that? We finished our beers (pretty quickly because we were starving) and head next door. They seat us immediately at high bar table with tall benches along the wall. I liked the table a lot because I could see everything and my feet didn't touch the ground so I could swing them (admit it, you like to do that too). The waiter, Peter, comes over to welcome us and tell us about the menu. We chat a bit about beer options and he tells us they have PBR on tap. Then he jokes about being able to "up-sell" PBR, and so naturally we order two huge ones. They come out in gigantic, frozen glass chalices. Chalices. And we're feeling pretty awesome about it (might have something to do with our previous drinks, but never mind that). We ask Peter for recommendations and order the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer (really good) and my husband gets a full rack of Memphis style ribs, while I order a pulled pork sandwich. You order sides separately, so we got three: mac & cheese, baked beans, and jalapeno hush puppies. The sides were all awesome. My husband loved his ribs; I thought my pulled pork was ok. I didn't love either the Texas-style sauce or Carolina-style sauce they offered on the table. I'm partial to Carolina-style, but neither were anything to write home about. When we just couldn't eat any more, we chatted a bit more with Peter, who took us on a little tour of the restaurant and told us a bit about the history of it. He was really attentive without being annoying--there where you needed something, but not interrupting your meal. Really great service. I have to say, although I did not love my BBQ, I loved everything else about this place. The staff was really accommodating, the atmosphere very fun and hip, and the prices completely reasonable. I recommend Doc Crows to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience.

We were seated and drink orders were placed-20 mins later they arrived-incorrect, took an additional 10 mins to correct.Ten mins later waiter finally shows up to get our food order, we decided to go with the Heapin chips with pork as an appetizer, and split the beanless chili and smokehouse burger prepared medium. The appetizer arrived and as we started to dig in we realized that the pork was nothing but fat and contained only two small pieces of meat, simply gross. Placed another bourbon order, then dinner arrived. Burger was cooked beyond well done, chili looked like it had also been sitting under the heat light for an hour (was very dry). It took another 30 mins for second drink order to arrive and it was a pathetic pour (1" with ice) which I sent back as we had by that time finished dinner, and there was no way I was paying $12 for a 1" pour of bourbon after waiting 30 mins for it. The drink server was extremely rude on each interaction and the waiter while apologetic was less than attentive and pawned every thing off to out of his control (despite us observing him to be extremely attentive to several other tables that were predominantly female). Normally Doc's has been a good experience for us, but this visit will be very difficult to over come.

A little pricey but not too bad. The atmosphere is pretty cool. I liked how much bigger it is inside than you would expect. There is a decent sided bar inside as well. The drink selection was very good and had some unique choices. The dinner was very good. I had a brisket on a bun and actually the bun was better than the brisket itself. It was so buttery and warm. Then dessert was awesome. I had the ice cream with bacon of all things and cinnamon pork rinds. It was surprisingly good. Honestly nothing like I have ever had before. The waiter was also very helpful and kind. Too expensive for me to go all the time but would love to go again sometime and recommend to others, just try to get reservations or else it would be a wait.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Louisville. I love to take clients and contractors here for Lunch meetings during the day and it is a great place to go for an upscale dinner at night. The food is really tasty. Po boys, burgers, pulled pork sandwiches and some really good seafood options. The soft shell crab sandwich is fantastic. Additionally, If you are looking for a wide variety of scotch and bourbon, this is the place to go (the menu is extensive!).

Did not know this is a unique Louisville restaurant - not a chain. First time here - awesome peel n eat shrimp - best i've had since moving from Florida, the A1A Beachcomber Bar. Gumbo was very good and the Texas style chilie really grew on me - especially with the yummy corn bread dipped in it. Superb selection of bourbons! Very nice atmosphere too! Will definitely be back.

Went to Louisville for the first time because of the 2011 ABC expo. The past five years the show was in Las Vegas. I was pleasantly surprised by Doc Crow. We were greeted at the bar by Michael the bartender. Born and bred in Louisville. His quiet southern charm was refreshing. Doc Crow's design was stylish, the Slow cooked pulled pork and brisket incredible, beer selection numerous (try the local brew), oyster bar shucker Will the Mother Shucker entertaining but it was the signature dessert that Michael recommended that topped the evening to a 10 . The Wilbur Sundae, named after the cartoon pig, that made us say YUM! Brown buttered praline ice cream on top of Carmel ribboned cinnamon sprinkled pork rinds with candid bacon and bing cherry sauce. I think I got that right. Prices very reasonable. A must for downtown Louisville.

Went last night with a group of 14 and everything except the bourbon list was a major disappointment. Our food took nearly 2 hours to come out of the kitchen and it was horrible. I cook in BBQ competitions and what the kitchen sent out was embarrassing. 1. Spare ribs - learn how to trim them if you're going to list them as St. Louis, actually trim the cartilage and "brisket" section completely off. If it would have been just a little bit or an accident I wouldn't bring this up, but whomever trimmed these has no business working in BBQ. Ribs were also extremely overcooked, dry, and lack flavor. I did try a few baby backs from my friends plate and they were way overcooked and dry. 2. Beef Brisket - waaay over cooked and served with large portions of fat. A little fat is fine and brings flavor and moisture but I had more fat than brisket. Cut also seemed to be from the point of the brisket and not the flat which is odd. Point pieces are usually reserved to make "burnt ends" but this was slices from the point and was so overcooked it feel apart into tiny pieces by just trying to pick up with a fork. No flavor or smoke ring either. 3. Pulled pork - the least worse out of the 3 meats I had but still needs vast improvements. Pork was very dry, lacked flavor, and had no smoke to it at all. 4. BBQ Pit Beans- lacked flavor and I had a massive (like half the size of a golf ball) piece of fat in my bowl. 5. Braised Greens - best thing I had but nothing special, little flavor but they were a god send after eating the other BBQ. 6. Desserts, I didn't try any as I didn't want any more of their food after what I just experienced. Some of our group did get dessert and said the ice cream was good, but we found it was comfy cow ice cream so you can't really give the restaurant credit for it. Others got the chocolate chip cookies and said they were good but it's pretty hard to screw up a chocolate chip cookie. Service was slow (didn't expect super fast with a group of 14) and our poor waiter was serving our table and 3 others with little to no help. I dont care that there was 14 people it shouldn't take nearly 2 hrs from seating to receiving your first entree. Very poor management decision to have table turn so slow and assign one waiter to a large group. It also took over 30 minutes to get our check once we asked for it and we had to flag down the waiter again to get it. Recap- BBQ is so bad if I was the owner I would be absolutely embarrassed to be associated to what comes out of the kitchen. The bourbon list is extensive and really good. It seems the food is definitely an after thought. Everyone at our table liked the drink list but thought the food was really awful. My advice is go to the bar have a cocktail and leave without eating. Or just go elsewhere for your bourbon as it's Louisville there are plenty of other options to get bourbon.

Ate here on Thursday for a very early dinner. We were going to the horse show that started at 6:30 so we got here around 5. It was very quiet and it is a lovely space. It is modern while feeling warm. As it was pretty early the place was mostly empty and we got a table right away in the front window. However, that is where my praise ends. My friend ordered a wedge salad and the we ordered the shrimp, the littlenecks with bacon, wine and tomato, and the pork BBQ all together. Well the salad came out and then about 25 minutes later the rest of our food arrived. Apparently, listening was not high on our waiter's jobs list. Had he shown up to check on us we could have reminded him to drop the order for the rest of the meal but, alas, he was a no-show unless he had to bring something. Our food (and waiter) came. I was so excited about the clams, they are one of my favorite foods and with bacon how could they not be amazing? One word, sand. I ate 2 clams in quick succession and was left with a mouth and shells full of sand. The sand really ruined what wanted to be a delicious dish. The broth was great but if you gave it a stir you could hear that the bottom of the bowl was full of sand. The shrimp were delicious (could be bigger) really well seasoned and the cocktail, if you wanted it--I did not need it, was well balanced. The pulled pork could have been chicken however. We agreed that it was a nice smoke and a nice consistency but completely lacked pork flavor and aroma. I can say that the pepper vinegar, their homage to Eastern North Carolina mopping sauce, is very good. The Texas tomato based sauce is good (a bit too tomato for me). For a real good time, mix them together, they complement each other like crazy. Finally our waiter reappeared to ask if we wanted anything else. I showed him the sand in my clam shells and in the bottom of the clam bowl and told him that the dish was inedible because of it. He looked confused and I asked nicely if I could see the manager. Well, she and a few other folks had been loitering at the hostess stand up front for most of our time there (much loitering and chatting). He went over and they proceeded into the back. She finally reappeared and approached us. I told her about the sand and she told me that they soak the clams and scrub the outsides of the shells but "the insides are hard to get at". I shared that a little cornmeal in their soak will allow them to clean themselves on the inside. She thanked me for the tip and promised to pass it along ; ) and I paid $13 for a dish of tasty broth. I was disappointed that this Food & Wine "Top 10 New Best BBQ" places is only about 30% really great--those are some good shrimp!

Oh yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. This was my first stop on the Urban Bourbon Trail - it was the closest to my hotel and appeared to be pretty highly rated on Yelp. I went in not knowing much about where to go and what to do in Louisville. I left with enough knowledge to ensure a great trip. The bartender Casey was great. He gave suggestions on where to go and what to do in the city and provided some company and conversation for this solo traveler as I started my trip. I asked for a recommendation for food - with no hesitation he said brisket tacos and I said "Absolutely" because it's rare someone recommends something with such authority. They did not disappoint - and the BBQ sauce here is tangy and sweet at the same time with just the right amount of heat. They were hands down THE best thing I ate during my entire trip. I also started with a bourbon drink off the menu - something or other. I can't recall the name but it was pink and it was perfect. I had a gin drink with Ginger Beer, the second street something or other - I'll call it a Casey concoction - that was both dangerous and delicious. This was a great start to a wonderful weekend in one of my new favorite towns. If/when I return I will be sure to stop in here!

Fabulous BBQ, slaw, sweet potato fries, and local beers. Only things keeping me from giving 5 stars are: they were out of one of their top local beers; $0.50 cents charge for a small beer taste (without being told by waiter), and brisket sandwich did not come with slaw ($4 side dish charge). Otherwise superb food and environment. Extensive bar menu.

Well, I have been here primarily for drinks, but I did sample the HEAP'N CHIPS which are housemade Potato Chips Topped with Melted Cheddar, BBQ Sauce, Pico de Gallo Sour Cream & Pickled Jalapeño and pulled pork, as well as the SMOKEHOUSE CLUB which has Turkey, Honey-Smoked Ham, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato & Mayo. I do need to go back for dinner because there are so many tempting things on the menu I need to try!

I sat at the bar for a quick bite for dinner. Place was nice, great decor, nice menu. I ordered the salmon which was delicious, The local people I met said it was one of their favorites. The BBQ looked amazing!! Try it!

Solid restaurant located in downtown Louisville just a few blocks away from the river. It's the perfect spot for a relaxed dinner with friends though the wait tends to be long (45-60mins). I highly recommend their sweet potato fries!

OK you can believe your fellow Yelpers on this one, this place is noteworthy! The food, the attitude of the servers, the selection, and the ambiance of this downtown restaurant are all excellent. Like numerous others, we chose the brisket nachos to nosh on while we got to know each other, and I HIGHLY recommend them. This nacho chips appetizer is composed of homemade, spicy and delicious nacho chips, and the toppings, finished off with beef brisket chunks and strips, plus a sweet but tangy barbecue sauce, are absolutely decadent. Trust me on this one: it's a huge mound of goodness that was shared by 6 people, and we all had plenty. It's large and in charge. I also had a po-boy (shrimp and oyster), and it was as good as I've ever had. I've eaten po-boys down in the the Louisiana bayou and Shreveport for years, and this one stacks up with the best of 'em. The place is huge and has a decidedly retro southern feel in a decidedly southern 1880's building in the heart of downtown (50 yards from the YUM Center), and the servers are friendly and attentive. I will return and am looking forward to a second meal here (we had a group lunch here). Great place for savory cooking that's southern and authentically simple, with a mod twist!

Super good beef brisket tacos! Service was good in spite of the fact that it was packed for a Sunday evening. Definitely would want to eat here again!

If you are in Louisville for any reason this is a must stop destination! The atmosphere is casual and unique. The menu is full of great choices and is not overwhelming. The oysters are incredible and we had a sampler with ribs, brisket, BBQ, hush puppies, baked beans and fries. Everything was simply delicious! The highlight of the evening was the bourbon menu. They have 3 varieties of Pappy Van Winkle, I had mine on the rocks and it was great! Service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable! Gotta try it if your in the area!

Enjoyed my first visit today for lunch. The pulled pork tacos were relish. The fried green tomatoes however were poorly prepared, dry and hard, disappointed. Cool place though, next time I'll try dinner.

  • J M.

Good food good atmosphere. Had the sampler and liked the ribs the best. Brisket was ok not much flavor depth to it though. The ribs on the other hand had a fantastic rub on it with a little heat at the end. Also got the heapin chips or something like that. It came out in like 2 minutes which surprised us all. Real tasty great combination of flavors. We came in on a Friday and the wait was 1:15, so plan accordingly. Service was quick and great.

It wasn't bad but it wasn't good. The atmosphere is inviting but the overall feeling was that they tried too hard; kitschy almost. The BBQ wasn't anything to write home about but good. The drink selection was broad and the service was more than fair. I truly believe you're paying for the environment and atmosphere in a downtown setting - there are much better BBQ places around town but nothing that I'm aware of downtown. I'll go again if that's where a group of friends decide to meet up but I won't initiate anything.

I had dinner here with friends on 6/15/15. The food, drinks, and service were GREAT. We went on a very busy night. The staff took it all in stride. When a mistake caused a delay in getting us our meals, our server even sent over some complimentary fried green tomatoes to hold us over. I had a mega baked potato with pulled pork (something I have never seen on a California menu) and it was delicious. I still cannot believe I ate the entire thing. It was that good. I would definitely go back.

Too many reviews to add anything new. Cool bar and restaurant with intimate and welcoming decor. Good BBQ and a full menu of other delicious dishes. The mac & cheese was great, the stuffed BBQ potato was fabulous and the other sides we sampled were very savory, Southern comfort dishes. That along with a full bar makes this a great place for happy hour or dinner. Pricing was a tad high but fancy schmancy enough to justify it.

Great southern American food. Nice place. Good service and decent cocktail menu. The brisket is great and the house made sauces are good.

Service and food was incredible! We enjoyed the oysters, house salad, gumbo and salmon w cornbread stuffing SO SO Yummy! My son had the pulled pork and loved it. We went w a group of 15 and the kids loved the desserts; apple pie melt in your mouth and the warm choc chip cookies were the girls favorite.

  • Jeffey D.

Staff was super helpful picking out bourbons to try. Had the fried pork chops and heapin chips. The pork chops were full flavored and did not need the gravy. However the gravy added flavor and texture to the meal. The heapin chips are seasoned with a mixture found in few places. They are heapin of chips and little else, but still good. Rounded out the meal with an old fashioned that was on the sweet side of sugary. Pretty decent overall.

Everything was very good! Awesome peel shrimp, cheesy grits and Mac and cheese. I got the hep n' chips which was awesome I just disappointed in the amount of meat on top. The waitress wasn't the most friendly and seemed to be doing the minimum. The atmosphere was really cool.

This place is a level of cool that is unparalleled in downtown Louisville. There are many restaurants with good food downtown, but this place has it all. Awesome servers, a cool atmosphere, bartenders who know what they're at, and some of the best food this side of Louisville. Definitely check out the oysters rockafeller. The mussels are cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The crab cakes are fabulous. This place is definitely a must if you're looking for a truly unique spot in downtown Louisville!

Came out to visit and do the bourbon tour. Was expecting good BBQ but not this good. The wings will live on with me via story for the rest of my life. Best thing I ate while I was in town. Wanted to go back for more. Great whiskey selection with awesome service. A must stop if in Louisville

Oh my...this place! I love so much about what they do. BAR:The awesome import beer selection, and FULLY STOCKED bar is jaw-dropping. APPS: Great oysters on the half-shell, and great mussels! I would love to try the crab cakes. I've also tried the brisket tacos which were tender, smokey and delicious. The Heap N Chips was a topping overload, but probably best shared with a table of 3+. Oyster shooters...WOW ENTREES: Steak, and seared salmon are a few of the items my gf diet can tolerate. Both good on the days I went but of course those items will really be based more on the cook than the prep because they are both simple dishes, but the sauces/glaze were bold and accented the meat well. DESSERT: I've only had the Wilbur Sundae...and that's the only item you need in your life! Yes it's candied bacon, yes it's cinnamon pork rinds, and yes they are served on top of ice cream...my my my is it GOOD though. One the BEST, and most creative desserts I've had. OUTSTANDING. SERVICE/ATMOSPHERE: This place is good...therefore it's busy. Wait times can get long, but it's well worth it. It's a very loooong dining area, so the room in the back and very front have the only well lit space with a nice view, but the middle sections can be a bit cramped, but it's not that bad. 4.2/5

Good southern BBQ joint! Pulled pork sandwich with fried onions was mouthwatering. Fried green tomatoes were okay. Not much selection outside of fried food, but then again, it's a southern restaurant. Star of the show was the Key Lime Pie. I would go back just for this!

Tasty food with an incredible selection of whiskey! I love good southern and felt that this hit the spot. It was reasonably priced, but could improve the flavor depth across most dishes with a touch more sauce.

very good barbecue dishes. My wife and I joined my father in law and his wife this time. It was our third time dining here's but there first time. The oysters in a half shell were monster out in size and had great flavor. My wife and I each had the combo basket of ribs and barbecue. Overall very tasty. The multiple bourbons offered were nice as she is a bourbon fan. Overall good service. Good food but a touch pricy for the quality.

Didn't really like this place. I wasn't really feeling the Southern hospitality from my waitress. They only had pork ribs. I don't eat pork. The filet mignon was good, but the mashed potatoes that came with them had way too much black pepper. My sister said her burger was dry. The bourbon bread pudding barely had any bourbon. The only thing I liked was the chocolate cake.

There I was stranded in my hotel room near the airport with nothing but delivery options. A couple taps on the keyboard on the Yelp talk thread and Kelly Y. heard my call. My plead rather - Where can a person eat, solo and not look completely out of place? Every restaurant that was recommended to me by my coworkers was WAY too fancy. Kelly said - her first choice was Doc Crow's - so a twenty dollar cab ride laterand there I was walking down a rather nondescript hallway into Doc Crow's. A surprisingly long restaurant in terms of footage the place had a great buzz to it. I grabbed a corner stool at the bar and proceeded to spend the next three and a half hours hanging out, chatting with patron's, sampling a large amount of bourbon, eating some solid food and having a wonderful time. I've met the most random people every time I come to this little gem of a city. While ordering a half dozen oysters on the half shell, I struck up a convo with the guy sitting next to me. He was in town from Jersey and was interviewing for the Executive Chef role at the Hyatt in Louisville. We talked for a bit and he departed to the Troll Bar. The oysters were briny and tasty, although a bit hacked up from getting cleaned. I ordered a pair of tacos for my meal - the first taco was pulled pork which was well seasoned and flavorful. The second taco which reviewers rave about was the brisket, but I I found it dry and underseasoned. The next person to the bar that I started talking to was the pilot of the Good Year Blimp. Who grows up and says I want to pilot the good year blimp? This guy did. His crew took seats all around us and we had quite a few laughs. Random encounters at the bar at Doc Crow's with an attentive bartender named Taylor. He kept my drinks filled and was always there for offering a new suggestion of bourbon to try. I'll be back on my next visit to this great little city.

Just wow! I came to Louisville on a quick trip and Doc Crow's came highly recommended and I must say the restaurant lives up to the hype. The atmosphere was just what you would expect from a modern whiskey bar. It was crowded on a Tuesday night but there was no wait and awesome service! With over 100 types of whiskey there's something for everyone - and the cocktails looked great too. I had the fried oyster appetizer and the brisket entree. The brisket was amazing - very similar to a Texas BBQ. My girlfriend had the baby back ribs which were also phenomenal. If you can't decide on a side, go for the beans. I think I could have a bowl of them by themselves for dinner. I will be doing some business in Louisville this year and I will definitely be back.

I love when I stumble upon a place like this; good food, great, specialty drinks (these guys have every bourbon you can imagine), good service and a niche environment. Any place that has fresh oysters and greens has my vote. The food was outstanding! I had the Portobello sandwich which has a fried green tomato sandwiched in the goodness. I loved every finger licking, delicious bite. My greens were pure southern delight. #1001

Very cool vibe here. Raw oyster bar was new to me so I actually had my very first one here. Even have photo evidence! Food was good, had a hard time choosing with so many appetizing things on the menu. Wasn't feeling too hungry so I ordered a Cesar salad and a side of Mac n cheese. House made dressing on the salad was delicious, but the crouton/craklin like things were off. Got too soggy in the dressing. Mac n cheese was awesome. Very creamy and topped with crumbs which I always go for. Ordered that over the fried green tomatoes when I saw someone a table away having it. Also tried fried okra and some of my husband's brisket. Brisket was more tender than I would have guessed and was served on bread which he wasn't too impressed with. The oyster I tried was weird but having never tried one before I guess it was alright? Kind of on the small side for $3 though. For a drink I had the mint julep lemonade which was really good. Nice and crisp with the classic julep flavor still there. Overall we had a good dinner here. A little hectic as far as service and the amount of customers in the place but not too bad. Even with it being so busy our server was still present and chatted with us. Would go back and try the crab cakes next time!

The atmosphere is great. The fried green tomatoes on the other hand are underwhelming and bland. The stuffed baked potato with brisket was much better. Excellent flavor.

Yelp and Urbanspoon both had amazing reviews for this place so my friends and I decided to check it out. Our waiter was super attentive and fun. We didn't know a lot about bourbon selections and he picked out all of our drinks for us-and we loved them all! They don't skimp on the alcohol for sure, the drinks are really strong and good. There was a little bit of a wait time in between getting our drinks and food. But when the food came out-delicious! I had the Smokehouse potato-loaded baked potato w/ chives, bacon, melted cheese and pulled pork! Great flavor and couldn't finish it all. My friends had the shrimp and grits, which they swore by. Price range is $10-$20 a dish. I would definitely recommend this place to both barbeque and seafood lovers!

  • Chris H.

The brisket I got was so fatty I only ate half. The other half was all grizzle. The taste was good, but not much to actually eat. It was also my fault for not paying attention to the menu, but 8oz is all you get, I think I even only got half of a piece of toast. I would definitely come here If your on a diet that involves portion control like 4oz of brisket on a toast point. But if your someone looking for bbq and want to get full, there are better options. Well, back to the Courtyard Bistro for a snack.

The worst part of the entire meal was trying to decide what to order from all the amazing selections! Our fried green tomatoes were just perfect. Mint julep was delightful. Shrimp and grits and our ribs could not have been better. After all of this I still managed to devour the best bread pudding I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Service was friendly, but a little slow as they appeared to be understaffed.

Where to begin... this meal set a definite high mark for barbecue on our trip. We were on the road for more than two weeks and we ate a lot of barbecue. A lot. Like really a lot. I think we even had bbq for breakfast one day. But I'm pleased to report that Doc Crow's was the best bbq and dining experience of our travels in the south. Sadly, we had to rush through our meal since we were on a tight timeline (had to get to Mammoth Caves for a timed tour), so we completed our lunch in less than 45 minutes. However, Doc Crow's is first on my list to revisit the next time we're in Louisville. Yes, it's that good. We're not usually the types to repeat restaurants, but we want to return to savor the entire experience at a more leisurely pace. The interior decor and atmosphere of the restaurant is too cool for words. But not in a snobby hipster type of way. The greeter and the waitstaff were all friendly, welcoming, and attended to all our questions in a thorough and helpful fashion. We opted for a sampler platter of baby back ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. We added on sides of mac and cheese and greens. Wow, just wow...every item was delicious. The meats were tender, flavorful, and perfectly smoked. The dry rub they use on the ribs is fantastic. The ribs were smoked to heavenly perfection with a gorgeous dark crust on the outside, and moist, tender, falling off the bones meat. The brisket and pulled pork were similarly delicious and tender. Often we've had brisket that (while tender enough) was on the dry side. Doc Crow's gets it right with a perfect smoky flavor and tender texture, not dried out at all. The sides were delicious too. Truly I can't say enough about how good this meal was. In addition, they offer a huge variety of whiskeys, bourbons, and other distilled spirits. As relative newbies to the whiskey world, we asked the waiter what he recommended. He said his favorite (at the $10 per shot price point) was Willetts. Well $10 seemed kind of steep for a shot of whiskey (remember, we're newbies) but we decided to go for it. Wow, the waiter did not steer us wrong. The Willett's pot reserve was a golden sweet fiery swallow of honey textured whiskey. In fact, Willett's was our hands down favorite of the entire trip (and we sampled probably 6-8 craft distillery whiskeys as well). This was a great dining experience on all counts. Big big thumbs up.

Went with a large group and the service was quick, attentive, and efficient. The fried oysters was a small dish but the heapin chips with pork were legit!! The fried pork chops were good but be sure to get extra gravy - pork can be dry when fried.

This is a great stop to make while in Louisville. It is in a great location downtown and is unique inside. Beautiful restorations to the building, great BBQ, and wonderful drinks at the bar. The mint julep lemonade is my favorite! I came back two years in a row for it. The bartenders are friendly and gave us Urban Bourbon Trail passport books. That was a fun way to visit several establishments, try a cocktail, and see the city. After six visits to participating restaurants all around the city, we got a certificate and free tshirt from the visitors' center.

Just what we were in the mood for. A taste of an authentic Southern Bbq Comfort Food joint. The portions are just right, the staff super friendly and the prices even better. We started with the beef brisket tacos (Yum). We then tried the fried green tomatoes (bleh). They were not our favorite...heavy on the breading and doughy and not a lot of flavor. The brisket on Texas style toast was succulent and so good. The cheddar grits were delicious as where the braised greens. What blew our minds and taste buds and was highly recommended by our server was the bread pudding. Oh my word, definitely the Star of the show. It was the best I've ever had...hands down! When in Kentucky you gotta have Bourbon. I ordered the traditional Mint Julep and it was the perfect end to a great meal.

Tasty food, interesting drinks. The portions on the meat are meager, but the sides are very big. You pay more for a dinner than a sandwich, but I don't feel like the portion is bigger, and you pay extra for the sides on most items. They're used to being busy, so they just make you wait without acknowledging you. When I got the bartender's attention, the service was good. It is better to get here after 7:30 to avoid the crowd.

Yummm! So many places to eat, so glad I chose this one. Ordered the brisket, slaw, and mashed potatoes. . . . . leaving with a full belly and a smile on my face. But I'll be back and I'm bringing my wifey next time! The brisket, thinly sliced and stacked atop Texas toast, was juicy, though flavored subtly and not as tender as I expected. Still worth a second chance. The slaw had a slight kick to it, which paired well with the brisket. Mashed potatoes and Texas toast made for the perfect knife n fork sandwich. I'm getting hungry all over again, my taste buds thank you Doc Crow!

Doc Crow's is really great for delicious, Southern food! They always have a long wait if you don't have a reservation, but that wait may go faster than you'd think! Service: Really amazing Southern hospitality, which was wonderful for a change (we were visiting from Chicago). Our waiter had all sorts of spectacular suggestions! Ambience: Very southern looking, great for big groups Food: If there is one thing that stands out here, it's their key lime pie. I've had famous Randy's famous key lime pie, and Doc Crow's really beats them. The pie here is also 10x better than Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen's, which everyone in Louisville suggests you to go to. The BBQ here is also great, but make sure you dump on that homemade BBQ sauce!!!

Underwhelming and overpriced. We ordered the ribs, pulled pork platter, and seafood gumbo. All arrived before our soft drinks, which is a little too fast for my taste. Skip the seafood gumbo. It's just not good, and for $8 it's insulting. There was no seafood. It was more of an okra soup. Part of it was hot, and then occasionally you found an unpleasant cold spoonful. Cold slimy okra and rice soup... That'll be $8 please... Ugh The pulled pork was mediocre. Presentation was terrible... Big metal tray with a generous ice cream scoop of meat atop a piece of Texas toast. It was cooked well though. It was moist, had nice texture, and I like that it was actually pulled and not shredded. It was pretty flavorless, however, with vinegary undertones, and it wasn't served hot. The ribs were disappointing. Again presentation was lacking. The dry rub looked great and tasted good. Unfortunately, the ribs were cold and super dry. It looked to me that the problem with them was that they are all pre-cooked and then tossed in a warming oven. Over the course of the evening they dry out, and get cold from the oven door always being opened. The kitchen is open...that's what it looked like to me. It's a shame because the restaurant has a very cool ambience. The cocktails looked really good... I didn't have one, but they looked good. The service was good. The restaurant was clean. I wanted the food to be good. I wouldn't go back.

Good food, which arrived three minutes after ordering it, and five minutes before the cocktails. I civilly advised the server, "Bad timing." There was no apology. After eating, there was no offer of coffee, dessert...only the check. This was for nicely dressed out of towners, sent by the Seelbach Hotel, on a Monday night with a reservation, in and out in 50 minutes! We then went two blocks to Down One for coffee, dessert and a flight of bourbon in a great atmosphere.

I really don't get the hype about this place. I've been twice now, and both times I felt like the food was overpriced for what I received. The first time I went, I tried the brisket. Honestly, I've had far better brisket - it was a bit dry, and didn't have a lot of flavor. The second time I went, I kept it simple with a bowl of chili and the wedge salad. They were both ok, but nothing to write home about (and for some reason, they don't serve the chili as a cup, only bowls.) The drink list is fun though, and the out of towners I was dining with seemed to enjoy it, so maybe it's just me?

Holy good God! Thank you for being here, you unbelievablely delicious high quality BBQ! When you arrive, there is the raw oyster bar that greets you. Order as many oyster selections you wish, for you will not be disappointed. We had the bbq sampler, which we shared amongst the 4 guests, and the bbq tacos. We also shared 3 side dishes that we all loved, esp. the hushpuppies. Great choices on everything! The drinks were superb also! Pretty sure our server's name was Kristen, and she did a wonderful job recommending dishes and overall servicing us. Thanku, thanku!

Great atmosphere, just wished they gave more pulled pork on the stuffed potato! Arrived here on a Saturday night in a party of 12. We had reservations & were say very fast. The server was responsive and able to keep the drinks coming. The food arrived fast. I expect that those items are already made, i.e. pulled pork, beef brisket, potatoes, fries. I was debating on the catfish or the stuffed potato. I was craving hush puppies all morning, odd, I know. I saw you could order hush puppies on the side for 3 dollars so I went with the stuffed potato with pulled pork & a side of hush puppies. We shared the pulled pork covered chips. It was a HUGE amount of chips & pork. They were able to be passed down the table twice & we still had a lot left. They were AMAZING. The potato was huge. I don't know where they get potatoes that large, maybe Idaho. It came stuffed with cheese, bacon, sour cream, & a small amount of pulled pork. The potato was cooked well & the pork was good, it wasn't anything to write home about. I would've liked a little more pulled pork on the potato, it was only about two forkfuls on it. The hush puppies weren't that great. They were very large, but dry & flavorless. They didn't have any sweetness or moistness to them. I ate half of one & left the other three. Overall I wished I'd tried the catfish, or maybe the pulled pork sandwich. Or maybe just got the pulled pork nachos & ate them all for myself!

Doc Crow's knows their BBQ. They also know how to serve BBQ at great prices. For as stylistic as the place is, you would think it was cost more, but no, a meal here is the same price as a meal at Olive Garden, and Doc Crow's non-processed, expertly cooked selection is far, far superior. I ordered the pulled pork with a side of sweet potato fries. The fries? Perfection. Sufficiently crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. The pulled pork was as equally satisfying - tender and savory. What was more disappointing was the sad Texas toast it was served with. It was salty, soggy, and very unappetizing. My partner ordered the whole roasted chicken. Now, chicken to me is a bit of a poor man's meal. I grew up eating because it was easy to cook, so it takes some pretty fantastic chicken for me to say it's worth eating. Well, Doc Crow's whole roast chicken is worth eating. Fall-off-the-bone, succulent, and flavorful, if all chicken tasted like that one did, I would be much more of a chicken fan. My friend's side of deep-fried okra was a bit wanting though. Not bad, but not amazing. Our server was nice enough, and provided perfectly adequate service. However, when this place gets packed, it's not a good place for conversation. The hardwood floors, high ceilings, and brick walls cause with the place to have terrible acoustics when they're busy. Unfortunately, Dos Crow's is popular, which means it's always somewhat loud. As it stands though, I'm still a fan. I can't deny great beer and BBQ at great prices.

I travel to Louisville a lot for work and always try to make a stop into Doc Crows for good BBQ. The beef brisket is my favorite entree and is pair well with fried okra, or mac n cheese. The staff is super friendly and very attentive. Next time you are looking for goof BBQ Brisket in Louisville check this place out. Also they have a great bourbon selection.

Oh my gosh the food here is HEAVENLY and OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! To start off my meal I ordered the smoked wings (hot) and it was crispy and just delicious. The best wings I've ever eaten with a side of blue cheese. Once I had consumed it all, I had the pulled pork sandwich with a side of doc chips made in house. Let me just say I was full from the wings, but I pushed a part in my stomach to the side to make room for the pork. I used the wet vinegar based BBQ sauce and it complimented amazingly well with the coleslaw, pickles and fried thin onion rings. I took a few deep breaths and started to eat the well seasoned BBQ chips. Yes I was being a glutton but that's ok. I also tasted some of my co workers southern fried chicken sandwich and brisket tacos. Wow I'm just speechless it was so moist, tender and flavorful. Our waitress was very helpful and sweet. If I'm ever back in the area this will be my number one stop!!!

Went here for an early dinner this past Friday on the recommendation of the hotel staff. In short, the food and drink were wonderful and the super-friendly waiter provided great suggestions. The service was - shall we say leisurely - but I was in no hurry so not a problem. It's a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. Being in Kentucky I wanted to try the bourbon, but not straight, so the waiter recommended the Mint Julep lemonade which was awesome. I then had the fried oysters and there were only 4 or 5 in the order, but man were they good!! I had the beef brisket tacos which were amazing and the pulled pork sandwich had to be the best I've had in ages. FWIW, I think Open Table defaults to saying nothing is available before 3:15, but I walked in with no reservation around 3:45 and there were plenty of tables and no one was sitting at the bar. As I was leaving around 5:30, I did hear the woman at the front tell a group of 3 that were booked with reservations starting at 6:30 and that they could start the seating at the bar.

This is more like 3.5. The prices are quite high for the mains as they come with no sides, not even the traditional potato salad or coleslaw. And we are from The Washington DC area which is a pricey place. But drink prices, perversely and for some perhaps most importantly, are reasonable. Especially the ability to do a few whiskey "tastings" and choose your own size of beer pours for 3-5 bucks. Kids meal prices also reasonable ($6) and the sides plate option is awesome. We had brisket which was fatty so he lost a good 1/4-1/3 of his portion to that (8oz total serving and no sides except a piece of bread). But the pulled pork (12oz)was really great. No salt which may bug some, but also no sauce which is my fave-- add your own as you want is the way I like it.

It's big. It's popular. There's lots of bourbon. Score a window seat. And drink lots of bourbon. And be sure to get the ribs. They fall off the bone. Not like your typical "so tender they fall off the bone but we're just saying that" type of fall off the bone. Like, these are super meaty and actually tear off easily. The dry rub is awesome. You don't even need sauce, but if you choose to, it will only add to the deliciousness. You will not be disappointed. If you are, you're un-American. Factoid. The mac n' cheese was stellar and a huge favorite among our group. Healthy eatings? No way, partner. And have an oyster or several. They're a buck. I had my first oysters at Doc Crow's. A fan? Surely! Just make sure you chase it all down with bourbon. Lots of it.

My husband and I ate here back in May. Lucky for us, we had reservations because it was jam packed full of prom goers and people attending Cirque de Soleil. I have to say that the wait staff was wonderful that night. We got great service even though they were slammed. The food is phenomenal. We order the oysters Rockefeller for an appetizer. I'm not the world's biggest fan of seafood, but they oysters were very well done. My husband did the sampler, and the BBQ was outstanding. I had the Heap 'N Chips as entree topped with brisket, and it was ah-mazing! The harmony between the brisket, cheese, chips, BBQ sauce, and the jalapenos was fantastic. It's actually an appetizer, but it's so big, it definitely can pass for a satisfying entree. I would definitely come back and recommend it to others.

I am still full from our great meal at Doc Crow's. Seafood and BBQ don't typically go hand in hand in my mind, but it works. We overdid it on the ordering, so no judgment from here on out: Virginia oysters on the half shell with some beers - switching to lower octane after a long day Doc Chicken - a tender smoked half chicken, served dry (BBQ sauce on the table, if needed) served with texas toast Half Slab of Ribs - which were fall off the bone perfect Hush Puppies - jalapeno-laced, which made them better than any before (a few orders of) Mac and Cheese - crispy and gooey, perfect with the BBQ Loved the atmosphere, good service, and the food was so delicious it is almost criminal. I would come back in a heartbeat!

We stopped in for some lunch and we're seated immediately by the friendly service. My guy got the BBQ rib sandwich with chips and I ordered the shrimp and grits. The portions were really big however I felt for the price I paid there could have been more than 6 shrimp in my dish. It was really good though for my first grits experience. The rib sandwich had some grisly bits but was otherwise good. The drinks we ordered were quite strong- they were both bourbon based. We finished with a delicious mini key lime pie and proceeded to take a massive nap afterwards.

OK not a bad place. Was seated quickly and courteously. Had a great chocolate porter which came cold and quickly also. Ribs were just OK..a little overcooked and the BBQ was a little tart for my liking. Bread pudding was different but I prefer the jack Daniels sauce to the heavy cream. My server was great!

After my family from out of state researched and chose Doc Crow's for the family dinner, we made a reservation for 4 adults, 3 kids and an infant. When we arrived we were seated at the WORST table in the entire restaurant, directly across from the serving/kitchen station. It was incredibly loud and scared the baby through most of the meal, so loud that I couldn't speak to the person sitting directly next to me. It was extremely difficult to enjoy any part of the meal with the insane foot traffic nearly feet from our table, and when it was calm I dealt with the line staff staring directly at me in ways that made me irritated (mind you I'm holding the 4 month old and sitting next to my husband - no, don't look at me like I'm a brisket on your menu!). As the meal finally ended one of our party got up to use the restroom. At his return he informed us that the back room had several large and empty tables to accommodate us! My mother in law decided to speak to the manager to voice her disappointment with the atmosphere, to which, she was told 1) we should have known this restaurant was loud (this was our first and Last time) and 2) seating here is a crapshoot. 3) She was also advised that they serve over 500 people there on any given Saturday night. I'm sorry, but making a reservation is the industry tool used to ensure adequate seating for such a large party. We were placed in the worst seat in the house so that our children wouldn't disturb the rest of the hipsters enjoying the ruckus around us. And we became one of the masses. We will never return to this anti-family restaurant. The food was adequate, but we were treated poorly before we even arrived. The management was flippant with us and frankly, when we go out and spend that much money on a dinner, we don't want to be thrown in to the "over 500" cattle herd that they obviously pride themselves in, because that pride surely isn't the care and service of their customers.

My favorite restaurant in Louisville so far. My cousin who lives here recommended it and it exceeded my expectations. I had a fantastic cocktail called a black pepper Collins. Kind if like a Tom Collins with muddled strawberries and black pepper. I also had the BBQ pork which was tender and flavorful. They had a couple different bbq sauces at the table including my favorite a vinegar type sauce. They served pickles with the BBQ which I love! Pickles and bbq are 2 of my favorite foods. Now, the unfortunate thing is that sides are not included. You have to but them separately. So my bbq was $11 and then my Mac n cheese was another $4, but it was so worth it. Crazy good!

Amazing food! Ribs and Mac And Cheese are to die for. Salmon was undercooked unfortunately but sautéed spinach and sweet potatoe fries were delish. Cocktails: Far East Julep was delicious; 5th Floor Gold Mine was sparkly. Service was good over all. Server Jeremy was awesome- he made sure we had everything we needed at all times.

Actually, more like 2.5. The BBQ was okay. I've definitely had better but it wasn't bad. The portions were a little on the skimpy side. Not just for my man-sized appetite. Several of my dining companions of the petite female persuasion mentioned the same thing. I had the pulled pork sandwich. For some reason it lacked those subtle, complex smokey layers of flavor you find in really good bbq. The chips were pretty good and they gave me a mountain of them. Service was tolerable. I concur with another review, we didn't so much have a server as a parade of flannel-clad, bearded hipster types occasionally stopping by. It makes it a little confusing when you just told one metro-lumberjack which bourbon you decided to go with and no sooner has he disappeared and another is asking you if you would like anything to drink. My review is based on two visits (in the same night). The first for dinner. The second for a drink. Dinner was fine. Nothing outstanding, but fine. Drinks were less than stellar. Not the drinks themselves mind you (it is pretty hard to mess a bourbon "neat") but the "I don't care about you" attitude of the bartender. Guess what drinkslinger? When you have 100 something bourbons available be prepared to give some suggestions. You might ask, "Do you want something with more/less alcohol, smoother, more full-bodied, smokier, etc., etc." and steer your patrons toward a suitable choice. Answering "You just pick one" doesn't cut it. If I wanted to "just pick one" I would go to a liquor store. This place was hopping when we were there so I don't know. Maybe I just caught the kitchen and bartender on an off night. Maybe its just telling of the dining scene/options in Louisville, KY.

We found out about this place from the bartender at our hotel and I'm so glad we did! Upon arrival, you see a huge oyster bar and you may think,"oyster bar and bbq?" YES! For some reason it just works. Although this particular night, we decided to do it up right with full on BBQ. To get started, you must order the Heap'n Chips! Crispy chips with your choice of beef brisket or pulled pork, melted cheddar, BBQ sauce, salsa, sour cream, and pickled jalapenos. To die for! So you can imagine with that as our opening act, we were expecting big things for the entree. We shared an order of the Smokehouse Sampler which gives you pulled pork, beef brisket, and a 1/2 rack of ribs. When it was delivered to our table, we were disappointed in its size thinking surely there's more coming. After our initial shock, after splitting each selection down the middle for two, we were very pleased with the taste and flavor of each. Because we were partaking in some of the local brews beforehand and during dinner, we were full at the end and very pleased, so the size of the sampler really didn't bother us in the end. The atmosphere is great. People visiting, laughing, etc. You feel like you're part of the "in-crowd" when you eat here. Definitely a place we'll visit again :)

Hands down then best BBQ I have had in years! St. Louis Ribs were smoked to perfection with the right amount of wet mop, the baked beans were amazing, and the Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious! Recommend to anyone visiting in the Louisville area!

We were in Louisville for one night only, we wanted to hit up a great place for dinner & Doc Crow's fit the bill. I did not make reservations because I wasn't sure what time we would be pulling into town, but I definitely recommend doing so if you can. We were seated by the kitchen, which was kind of noisy, but I'm assuming that due to the lack of reservations. I couldn't believe how large the space is, each room seems like a different dining experience. We started with some oysters & the peel-n-eat shrimp. I had the chicken and a side of cheese grits for my entree... the grits were ridic. Super delicious. My boyfriend had the catfish po'boy, I wish I would've ordered that! It was a HUGE piece of catfish, perfect breading, perfect crispness. We finished with a dessert of the chocolate cake. Only a few minor complaints, our server seemed crazy busy and not very thrilled to serve us, but it could've just been a super busy night. And the chocolate cake didn't seem like it was house-made, I wasn't expecting a molten cake from the description on the menu, but hey, chocolate is chocolate so who am I to complain! I picked Doc Crow's because the menu had a great combo of all the foods I love, and overall they did not disappoint.

Killer cocktails, wings, BBQ, Mac and cheese... Everything here was so enjoyable (oysters were just fine, but I guess I shouldn't judge so hard as we're far from the ocean), and I love the location/space.

Been here once and I am hooked. The food was fantastic. I had the Seafood Gumbo and the Southern Crab Patties - both were phenomenal. I can't wait to go back and try the Shrimp and Grits, Southern Fried Oysters and Fried Green Tomatoes! This is a great place for a bourbon drinker as they have a large selection of bourbon. I love the atmosphere and the service was great.

Sadly, I don't live in Kentucky because they have the best beer in all the states that I have traveled to hands down. The food is good but that Whiskey Chaser Lager and ultra-high-end beer tap system they have is the best. The beer is super chilled. For any throwback beer drinkers out there, this place is a must!

Easily one of my favorite places in Louisville. Oyster selection is always good, beef brisket tacos are amazing and if you feel like splurging definitely get the Wilbur Sundae, even if you think it sounds weird...it's delicious. Don't even think twice, eat here.

We were in a large group of 14 and pleased that they served us as our group wandered in over the course of 1/2 an hour. The waiter recommended the dry rub ribs and I'm glad I didn't take that and got the slattered with sauce ones. I swapped 1 rib with someone who tried the dry rub and the meat was too dry for me- personal choice. The drink menu was incredible with not only bourbons, but beers. I tried both and both were good. I did have to laugh that the waiter didn't know where the beer I wanted to try was from and discovered this California woman had managed to pick one from CA that I had never heard of. The options of sides were hard to make up my mind, but went with Mac & cheese and onion rings and was happy with both... too much food though. The person who made our reservations had asked for separate checks, but I was still impressed when they had 14 separate checks and dealt with 13 separate credit cards.

This place was delicious! Typical southern menu items and a great bourbon selection. We received great service and though we stayed pretty late, I never felt that we were rushed or that our server was getting anxious. We ordered the chip nachos, crab cakes, mussels, St Louis ribs, chocolate cake, pecan pie and apple pie. The chip nachos were awesome! The pulled pork on them was great! Crab cakes had a pickled component that made them different and delicious from your typical crab cakes. Mussels, were just okay but I'm used to pretty fancy mussels. The St. Louis ribs were great! They didn't fall off the bone but they were still tender and the sauce was well-balanced. The pecan pie was the best dessert. Oh, we also had sides, boy, we ate a lot! We had grits, greens, fried okra and baked beans. The baked beans are really meaty, grits were cheesy but the cheese wasn't a sharp cheese so they had a more mild flavor. Fried okra was fired okra. I'd definitely go back again! I feel like it's a mandatory Louisville restaurant. Though next time, i wouldn't ignore the Troll Under the Bridge Pub just down the street. I'd probably try to go there for an after dinner drink.

I had been dying to try this place so last week I ended up going twice. The first time I had the oysters rockefeller and the heaps and chips. Both were amazing. That heaps and cheaps was so huge that it could feed 3 or 4 people. It has their beef brisket in it. yum. The second time I tried the shrimp and grits. It was sooooo soooo fantastic. I am now dying to go back again and get it again. I ordered the West 6 from Lexington as my beer and loved it as well. As Arnold says, "I'll be back".

Visited Doc Crow's for dinner Saturday, May 4, 2013. To celebrate my friend's birthday. It was Derby day and the place was busy. I ordered the ribs (because duh, inst it the obvious choice?). But didn't realize their portions were sooo large, seems double than what I am normally used to in the NYC\NJ area. The ribs were PERFECT, delicious, tender, perfectly made. My friend got our table a round of Pappy's 23, which from what I am told is a rare find. It was the perfect way to end our last evening in Louisville.

Man! This place was hopping! I mean, there was a gaggle of people in there. It was crowded with tables packed just a little too close. Our party of five was seated at a four top with an extra chair pulled up to the end of the table. It left the person on the end rather in the way of the table next to us and, since we were also squished into a corner, required that that person get up every time someone else needed to move. Who was that person with their ass in the wind? Me! There's something karmic about that, I suppose. Our waiters were a little scattered. I say waiters because multiple guys in flannel shirts, jeans, and hipster beards dropped by the table throughout our meal. One of our party ordered a cocktail when we sat down and it took them three trips to the table and about thirty minutes to bring it to him. Apparently, they delivered it to the wrong table and, of course, that diner didn't bother to mention that they didn't order a drink. Nice. Oysters were ordered and eaten. Shrimp was ordered, pealed, and eaten. I'm not an oyster fan but I did enjoy the shrimp. It was seasoned well and the cocktail sauce provided just the right tang to compliment the seasoning. Sexy Beast attempted to order the Baby Back Ribs. They were out of those so he settled for the St. Louis Ribs. He wasn't overly impressed with the flavor. They were tender enough but didn't make him want to slap his mama. And, if you'd ever met Sexy Beast's mama, you'd know that it doesn't take much to make you want to slap her. He did like the hushpuppies, however. Spawn A ordered the Beef Brisket with mashed potatoes and fried okra. He declared the okra to be fantastic, the potatoes decent (because, really, it's a feat to screw up mashed potatoes), and the brisket "pretty good". Potsy ordered the Pork Chop, mashed potatoes, and lima beans. He raved about that damned Pork Chop like he'd raised it from a piglet all by himself. He passed the lima beans around the table and encouraged us all to try the "best lima beans, like, ever". They were pretty good, if you, you know, *like* lima beans. That One Guy ordered the Catfish. It came with hushpuppies. He ate about half of it and offered the rest of the hushpuppies around the table. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries. The Pulled Pork was tender and smoky but lacked any real depth. There was no flavor other than pork that I could discern. The sauce provided at the table was pretty flat, as well. I would have liked to have gotten a side of the slaw but didn't notice it on the menu as an option. The sweet potato fries were crisp and tasty. I really loved those. There was a *huge* selection of whiskeys and bourbons, if you're into that sort of thing. The atmosphere is pretty nice. I liked the giant windows and the painted brick walls. You can see into the kitchen as you walk by which instills confidence in the sanitary preparation of the food. I like that. There are only four bathrooms in the joint. Plan accordingly. There is one for men, one for women, and two for hermaphrodites. Sexy Beast tells me that the sign means that they are unisex restrooms. I think he's crazy. Overall, there were hits and misses. The service was spotty but the waiters were all very friendly and courteous. The food was either mediocre or delicious. Nothing was terrible. Maybe we'll give it another shot. But, next time, I want to sit at the grown up table.

We arrived at DC's right as they opened on a Saturday night, were immediately asked if we had reservations. We didn't, but they were able to seat our party of six (2 adults 4 kids ranging in age from 4 to 12) right away at a hightop table. Our server arrived with cold water for everyone, took our drink orders and answered questions about the menu. We ordered up 12 raw oysters (3 each of their featured ones for the day- $3 per oyster, quite pricey). They tout themselves as a BBQ and Raw Bar, but oysters were the only raw seafood we saw. The oysters arrived with the standard crackers, horseradish, and cocktail sauce, and also another condiment that was not explained to us, we had to ask. It was a really unusual sauce, vinegar based with shallots - and was very tasty. I had also ordered hush puppies as an appetizer for the kids, but we discovered when they arrived that they were spicy- like jalapeño corn bread- a fact that was not disclosed on the menu- so the grown ups ended up eating them. Our entrees arrived- the 4 year old devoured chicken tenders and fries, both of which appeared fresh, not frozen. The 12 year old got a Caesar salad with salmon on top, it was tender and cooked to order, very pleasing. The pork rinds as croutons were a tasty treat! The 7 year old got a ham and cheese off the kids' menu, she ate it quickly, said it was the best she'd had. She ordered a side of Lima beans as a side, and they were a favorite at our table- we all want the recipe! They had a hint of Rosemary, were creamy and filing, cooked with some type of pork. There was enough of them in the deep bowl for all of us to sample. The 9 year old ordered a half rack of ribs from the adult menu, with a side of cornbread. The ribs were tender, the sauce not too spicy, and loaded with meat. I had the pulled pork sandwich served on a toasted bun with pickles and slaw. The pork was a tad dry, but benefitted from adding some of the bbq sauce available in the table. The fries were excellent, although a couple were undercooked. The other adult with us had the mussels off the appetizer menu, which were prepared perfectly in a PBR and thyme infused broth. The service was fair, not overly attentive, but not always there when needed. The atmosphere was great, love what they've done with the building. Overall a good experience, knocked off a half a star for "meh" service and another half star for lack of description of some of the menu items.

Got crab cakes and beef brisket baked potato. Environment is loud and energetic bar scene. Oysters looked amazing and fresh. Really yummy crab cakes, but they are tiny (maybe 3" diameter each). Could not be an entree, definitely appetizer only. Beef brisket is wonderful and I would bet anything from the smoker would be. Baked potato with brisket was large, good proportion of meat to potato, overall delicious.

I kind of want to say that Doc Crow's ruined our only night in Louisville, but that's unfair. Karry L and I pressured Puja P into coming here since we really wanted Southern food for our first night below the Mason-Dixon. Puja P does not eat pork or beef. For such a large menu, the options turned out to be quite limited. (I said, surely you can eat the "Louisiana rice"! Nope, it's got meat.) She and the waiter discussed the options and what they were willing to do, since she was happy to leave us to find more agreeable food if nothing sounded good. She ended up staying and got the seared salmon with a side of green beans. My gumbo was mediocre and a little thin. The best gumbo I've had was in Illinois (Dixie Kitchen! yelp.com/biz/dixie-kitch… ), so Kentucky, y'all need to work on that. The half rack of baby back ribs was okay, if not slightly dry, and it was a pretty large portion. Karry L seemed to enjoy his Texas chili, but according to him the pulled pork was nothing special. But the climax of the night was when Puja P pushed a large chunk of sausage out from her supposedly cow- and pig- free plate. When the waiter came back around, he looked kind of defensive but said, "I'm sorry, I told the kitchen no meat." Puja P started feeling sick and walked out. The server and the manager both came back and apologized later, and offered to comp her food, but only after a long silence during which everyone seemed to be avoiding our table (this may have had to do with Puja P's long look of displeasure. Come to think of it, they only came up to us after she'd left). I told Karry L that if they didn't comp her dish automatically, the Yelping part of my mind was knocking a star down from the 3 I'd already decided for the so-so food. I've changed my mind since then - they get 2 stars anyway. You can't serve people something when they've explicitly told you they can't eat it, *and* you've explicitly agreed to accomodate them. What if this had been an allergy? On the plus side, they have a decently long bourbon list. Worth a visit as a tourist? Incidents aside, the food was nothing special.

Excellent! My wife and I wanted to try something new, and we heard good things about Doc Crows. From the front it looks like a hole-in-the-wall sort of place, but man, it's not. We walked to our table and the restaurant was super packed. We had made reservations, and they seated us immediately. I would highly suggest reservations. The southern ambiance was nice, the service exceptional, and the food fantastic! Our waiter was there when we needed him, and at a distance when we needed space. The heap'n chips plate was incredible. A must-have. The brisket and the pulled pork were melt-in-your-mouth tender. And the drink selection is large enough for anyone to find something to please. Check this place out!

Great BBQ. Ribs and brisket were quite good. Quality cocktails as well. Large open seating and a huge bar add a lot to the atmosphere. Quality spot in downtown Louisville showing off classic upscale southern fair.

The sampler was amazing! And cheese grits with shrimp may not sound good and I don't like grits but my buddy got it and I tried it and wished I had gotten that!Bourbon flight is great and worth the price! We were told 45 min wait and got seated in about 15 min for a party of 6 but regardless worth the wait if you had to wait 45 min! House beer was very good too and 3 or 4 bucks can't beat it!

Just passing through and made a special stop in Louisville based on a friends recommendation. Place seemed to be popular with the locals as it was still at capacity on on Friday at 10. Went with the sampler. Beef brisket was 50% fat - maybe I got a bad piece but they shouldn't have sent that piece out of the kitchen. Baby back ribs were the best out of the sampler. Sauce selection is limited - ok vinegar and smokey BBQ. Ordered the greens and coleslaw. Little on the small size for $4. I have eaten much better BBQ in chicago.

In town for a convention. Chose Doc Crow's and so glad. I had the dry rub style ribs while my wife enjoyed the St. Louis style. I couldn't decide which I liked more because they were both so good. Not only expertly prepared but the ribs themselves were super. The ambiance was high energy with lots of noise generated by a full house of people having fun. Check out the bourbon selection, and if that isn't your choice they also have Johnnie Walker Blue Label. I'll be back

We ate here the night before New Year's Eve, so it wasn't terribly crowded. We were asked if we had reservations, which we didn't, but were seated immediately. Wait service was very prompt and friendly. We tried to order Bud Light Draft, but were told they had just sold out, so we got bottles. Draft is better, of course. We ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell as an appetizer. They arrived quickly and were wonderful. Not too large (just can't do the ones that hang off the cracker on all sides!!), cold, and perfectly briney. Yum!! For dinner, he ordered a shrimp Po Boy with their homemade potato chips. I had the oyster and shrimp Po Boy with macaroni and cheese. Both dinners were great. I wanted to order bread pudding for dessert, but was too full! They need "one bite" size desserts for patrons who want to try something but are too full from their delicious food! A side note: they are working on the street (like all over Louisville, it seems like!!) in front of Doc Crow's, so most of the sidewalk on their side of the street is closed. They have valet parking available or you can go around the block on the street on the back of the building and look for street parking or park in the lot. The sidewalk is open there and you can come into the building from the back and ride the elevator up to Main Street level.

Outstanding. Just arrived from Ontario Canada. Turned to Yelp and found out this place was 8 minutes from our place. Food, service, speed and quality all outstanding! Great way to wind up our trip to Louisville. KY. All the yelpers were correct. Fabulous place.

The atmosphere is cool. The food was just so-so for the most part. The exception being the crab cakes which were inedible. The server was efficient but not particularly friendly. For some reason he didn't see the need to clear anything from our table even as the appetizer dishes piled up leaving no room for our entrees. Eventually the manager came over and remedied the situation but that's a pet peeve of mine. Bottom line: Have drinks, enjoy the atmosphere. Don't expect a great meal.

It's country and fried. Seems like most everything here is fried, except the salad. . .and I will not be surprised if someday deep fried salad appears on the menu. Feels country to me. Plaid shirts and all give it a southern vibe that hard to escape. Not too many vegetarian options, so I opted for the black eyed pea burger. I will say it is a very tasty vegetarian option. The issue a lot of house made veggie burgers have is dryness. This burger is indeed moist, with sprinkles of crunch via carrots. Really tasty creation served between buns. Dessert. I ordered the bread pudding, and the presentation is deceitful. Deceitful in that it's a bread pudding, that looks like a muffin. However, when eaten, the center is gooey, yet the outside hard and crispy. I remind myself that it's bread pudding and not an undercooked muffin, but eventually I am not able to overcome the psychological shift needed to call this dessert a success. It could have been warmer with maybe some ice cream. If you want really want a proper bread pudding with ice cream, I highly recommend Mayan cafe. Southern cuisine is not my favorite, but I applaud Doc Crow for the tasty black eye pea burger. If you're into southern cooking and beer, sounds like a winner.

Ok I really can't say one bad thing about this place. I have now been here 3 times and every time the food, serves, and everything about the place is amazing!!! The decor is like a country hip vibe, which I totally love! The good is spot on every time. You can't go wrong with anything you order. Staff is professional but also really friendly. Totally love this place!!!!!

I have been here a few times before but most recently I came with 4 people from work for lunch. I have never been disappointed here; I love their food! We got crab cakes as an appetizer, they were full of crab and not much filler, which is definitely a good thing. I got the portabello and fried green tomato burger and it was so good! The fried green tomato was cooked perfectly (I have a VERY southern grandmother so I know my fried green tomatoes!) I get their sweet potato fries almost every time I go there. They are always crispy and well seasoned and go perfectly with their slightly sweet barbecue sauce. The only bad thing about Doc Crows is that the service can be a little spotty. The first time I went my two companions and I were taken to the back of the restaurant even though the front was nearly empty. As a result, it seemed to have taken our server longer to get to us than it should have. The service at my most recent visit, however, was spot on!

Southern hospitality to match the Sourthern fare. We tried inventive bourbon cocktails and sampled a range of foods. Get plenty of sides to share. The Shrimp and Grits was a table favorite. The wacky sundae was a fun photo-worthy novelty but didn't deliver nearly as much appetite appeal as the bread pudding, which was decadent and delicious.

Had dinner with some friends tonight at Doc Crows before the U of L game. The place was obviously packed but the service was prompt and friendly. The oysters were fresh and sweet. And our dinners ranging from beef brisket to ribs to burgers were hot and tasty. Again this is with a packed U of L crowd. Great job DC's

Top flight rustic bar with a restaurant that's much more than an afterthought. Very good brisket. What the gumbo lacked in authenticity it made up for in creativity - fried okra toppers! Why didn't I think of that? And the bourbon menu? Shee-ooo!

Good, not great. Decent atmosphere, friendly enough. Upscale bar food with promise in the menu but food missed the mark. Average, once was enough.

You kidding me with the whiskey list? Well over 80 bourbons alone. Bartenders know how to make incredible Old Fashioneds-the best you'll ever have. Ask for the house soaked bourbon cherries. And get a bowl of gumbo for F's sake. Better than anything you'll get in the Big Sleazy.

I've been here twice while in town visiting, and I have to say I love it. It's not the cheapest, but the barbecue and southern foods are all top notch. The pork is smoky; the sides are flavorful and cooked with love. I'd have a hard time skipping this if I came back to town. Being from Texas, it's very nice to get some good barbecue in the midwest. Bottom Line: I'll definitely be back when I'm in town.

I came here last night and had the mussels and then the pork chops dinner. Wow, the mussels are a must have! They looked small but were very plump; they were cooked perfectly tender. And that broth! It had just a hint of warmth from red pepper flakes. I really wanted to ask for more bread or pasta and just soak it all up. But I knew I still had the pork chop dinner to eat. Those two fried pork chops were as good as ever. Also, I am glad to report that I was able to get a perfectly made Dewar's and soda with a twist of lemon! Yes, that twirl of lemon peel just made me smile! My friend had a 505?? It was something served in a champagne glass with a swirl of lime: light, refreshing, yet full of booze! Just the way a great cocktail should be! There is just something to be said about those great bartenders at Doc Crows! I will be back for more!

Had an amazing old fashioned, fried green tomatoes and pulled pork tacos. Everything was excellent, from the ambiance to the service to the food. Would definitely love to return!

Dropped in for a cocktail and stayed for dinner. Our bartender Casey recommended a few favs. So we tried the green tomatoes & crab cakes for apps. Main entrees of STL ribs & Shrimp & grits. Both were very good. Surprised to see the true bourbon list here; they have a few we hadn't tried. They had received their antique collection so the timing was perfect. Totally surprised by this place. Casey is a wealth of knowledge of the history & knows the bourbons.

Nothing negative to say about this place. Visiting Louisville for work and got taken down to Whiskey Row. We chose Doc Crow's and it did not disappoint. The place is really nice and we got a table near the large window in the front. I ordered a cocktail called "Man on Fire" - Bourbon, some other stuff, and Habenero bitters. Wow. Pork rinds for a appetizer, which are made in house. So crispy and porky. For the main course I had the shrimp and grits which was about as close to perfection as I could have asked for. The grits were creamy, but not polenta creamy (a little grit, hence the name). Sharp cheese, sausage, and large fresh shrimp top the dish off. It was also a great portion size. One negative (I know I said there would be none) would be that others at the table complained about how small the portions were, but that isn't always a bad thing.

I guess I'm the only one with a bad experience it looks like. Sorry Doc. Between appointments myself & a colleague decided to eat lunch here before our next meeting. We waited forever before someone came to take our drink order. The slowness continued throughout the whole meal. Cutting to the chase: I ordered the brisket & it was complete fat. I ate the brisket around the fat as much as possible and my colleague was literally cutting the fat off with a knife. I'm very familiar with brisket & some fat is cool but more than half of it? The server came over and I was about to share my suggestion & I was cut off by "the brisket is awesome isn't it" by the server. I responded "not at all. I don't want anything but I'm not sure others would want this much fat considering the cost of the brisket" The server literally turned around, walked away & said nothing. It was strange. Finally, because they never came back over & after we'd been there over an hour, I asked for the check while they passed my table. Again nothing said; no acknowledgement. I get my check & see that one brisket was removed even though my colleagues plate looked like jello too. I paid the check with a card so the server had to come back over to get the card. I just handed it to them & not one of us said anything. On my way out & I don't know how to write this effectively he says "see ya (my full name) in a childish sarcastic manner" I got frustrated & looked for the manager before something silly happened. I spoke to the manager. Who knows what was up with that person that day but I'll never be back.

Overall very good. Went in for a late lunch on a Monday. Host went out of his way to accommodate us on a lower table since we had a two year old with us. Waiter seemed fairly annoyed at first to be sat, but he lightened up by the end of the meal. Had a shrimp cocktail that was WAY overpriced, $12 for 5 shrimp is cray cray. My sister had fried green tomatoes that she loved and the price was reasonable. For our entree I had a burger with fries, cooked medium rare just how I asked for it. My sister had a club sandwich with hush puppies it was a good size and reasonable. Nice atmosphere and good food. Would be a great spot for a date or weekend meal.
