While this isn't my favorite place to get ice cream in Louisville, it still gets 5 stars because if I send someone to get ice cream (whether they're from in town or out of town), this is the location I'll send them to. Tons of flavors wrapped in this charming spot! Out of all the Comfy Cow ice cream shops, this is the one to visit. A small little outside area to sit during the summer, and a larger than expected inside to sit in anytime! There really isn't a bad thing to say about this location. Your eyes will definitely have something to do as you scope out the entire place without feeling like a weirdo. I can't really direct you to a favorite flavor here because they have so many. Honestly, reading over all the flavors each time, it really depends on what I'm in the mood for. I've never ever been disappointed! 1 complaint: One time the person I was with ordered a scoop with an ice cream cone. The cone that the attendant used was broke on the bottom so she put marshmallows under the ice cream in order to keep it from leaking. The problem? We didn't find this out until my friend bit into one of the marshmallows. The attendant should have just got a new cone instead of trying to fix the old one. Not a huge deal, but in my eyes that's like giving someone a piece of chocolate cake when they really wanted Key Lime Pie!

Perfection. So, so good - but c'mon now, it's ICE CREAM! Comfy Cow has a huge variety of flavors ranging from run-of-the-mill to outside-the-box. I got a brownie sundae with cookies and cream ice cream. It was great. My friend got the sweet potato ice cream and the fudgesicle sorbet - both were great as well. The service was great and they were very patient with our questions and wanting to sample a blue million flavors. I love the hodge-podge antique decor they have in the sitting area. It's quaint and comfortable.

Great fun store with deliciousness. SO MUCH DELICIOUS. Seriously, people. Plus, it's a super funky place!

I have always loved Comfy Cow. From their creative flavors and fun ingredients to the fun decorations, you can't go wrong by supporting this local business. Tonight I tried the Leprechaun's delight; a seasonal flavor that blends mint chocolate chip ice cream and Oreos. After sampling 4-5 other flavors before making my final decision, I settled on just getting the kiddie size scoop. That was still plenty. The person I was there with had the Cake Batter Up flavor in a milkshake. It was a little too sweet for my taste, but the flavor is good. One of the fun flavors I sampled was Policeman's Special- coffee flavored ice cream with chunks of Nord's donuts mixed in. Comfy Cow and Nord's donuts combined in any capacity has delicious written all over it, and the ice cream flavor does not disappoint!

Amaaaaaazing cake batter ice cream! The Cookie Monster was ok. It was a cute place that I would probably frequent to try different flavors if I lived in town.

If this doesn't top my list of favorite Ice-Cream places I don't know what does. The quality and unique flavors of this locally owned shop are amazing. It's been a long time personal favorite and it's high time it's your favorite as well. I just love this location as well. It's charming. The sidewalk seating puts it over the top. Nothing beats a cold treat while sitting out by the street people watching and conversing with those passing by. But really, what keeps me coming back are those Unique Bourbon flavored ice-creams. I don't really need reminding that I'm in Kentucky but at the same time it doesn't hurt. It's like having a bite of home. I've never tasted a bad flavor and I've never had poor service... and when it comes to this place, somehow I suspect I never will. I just love it.

I joke around about being a crotchety old person in a young (ish) person's body, but if I have one undeniably child-like quality, it's my love for ice cream. I love all pretty much all ice cream (except spumoni), but I especially love Comfy Cow. They have great flavors, they are always trying new things, and they really care about their ice cream. When we moved to Louisville, one of our first orders of business was to check out the then newly opened Comfy Cow in Westport. They easily won us over with their salted Dulce de Leche, and we were so glad when they opened the Clifton location because it's much closer to us. Now we can enjoy the Cow on a probably too regular basis. I think once they open their Bardstown Road location I will probably need to buy a bigger belt. They do great things with bourbon, such as their Simply Southern, but on any given day I'm likely to order something seasonal, just to give a new flavor a try. I've yet to try any of their of their other frozen goodies, but their popsicles come in very tempting flavors, like mango lassi. The ice cream isn't cheap but I think the price is reasonable for the quality. I usually get a kid's scoop, not because I'm cheap but because it really is enough to be satisfying. The great thing about this location is that it the building earned the #1 spot on Preservation Louisville's 2012 Preservation Success list.

Hello dairy my old friend. I've come to eat you up again. How do I put this? Wowwy wow wow! So many flavors, so many seating options! Outside, cushy chair side, in the nook, with a book! Flavor names rock, too!
(4)Lena H.
This is my favorite place to eat in Louisville, hands down. I always go big here, either with a slice of ice cream pie or a humongous sundae. There hasn't been a single thing that I haven't loved. In fact, I actually eat at other restaurants and pass on their desserts because I know I'm going to have amazing dessert here. One of my favorite flavors is the dulce de leche. This flavor is great for sundaes. I highly recommend doing the masterpiece sundae with dulce de leche and chess bars. I live out of town, so I try to make it up here at least once, if not more.

As a connoisseur of all things sweet, I feel strongly about my rating here. I've often said if I had to give up all desserts but one, I would write off everything but ice cream. Comfy Cow makes it possible to only eat ice cream and still take in all the great desserts you love. They pack every option full of so many ingredients other than cream and sugar that you wonder how they ever make their flavors freeze to the consistency of ice cream. Their flavor choices are unexpected and wild, so be prepared to stare at the board for a while wondering which choice to make or study in advance. Ice cream flavors are personal and so dependent on your preferences that I'd be crazy to try and tell you anything other than try them all. Make it a personal goal for the year, a new year's resolution if you so choose. As with all specialty ice cream shops, the selections at The Cow aren't inexpensive. If you're on a budget, but still want to try, go for a kid's scoop of the ice cream you deem most delectable. It's still generous and you can save a few calories while saving a little dough. Don't be turned off by the name. They'll serve a kid's scoop to an adult too. Also, a great bargain option is the ice cream cookie sandwich. You can choose two cookies and a scoop of your favorite flavor smashed in between.

We go to Homemade Pie Kitchen all the time, so I feel wrong posting this, but MAN does this place have the best ice cream in town! It's creamier and more homemade tasting than Homemade, and it also has a great assortment of flavors. The Frankfort Ave location has loads of seating options, including a covered porch with rocking chairs. The cookies and cream is delightful. But for pies and cookies, Homemade still hits the spot!
(5)Shawn N.
Homemade fresh ice cream in pies that are out of this world! Also, this place was named number two in the world by Buzzfeed! (Great award but not sure I believe it....) My advice is to get the flight where you can try three flavors, well worth it! The cool thing about this location is that it's set in an old house you feel like you're eating the ice cream right in grandma's dining room. Go today and get some!
(5)Amanda R.
The ice cream is good. Nobody can debate that. You can sample any flavor you want, and you will definitely want to in order to choose because they have so many options. What really won me over for this ice cream shop was the interior - you MUST explore the inside after you get your sweet treat. It is above and beyond in terms of quirky charm and makes the whole experience that much better! You might want to try going at an off time though, because the place can get very crowded.
(5)Leslie W.
Too many delicious flavors to choose from - a good problem to have! CC has also created several Derby-themed recipes including Secretariat and mint julip. Where else are you going to get ice cream made with Copper & King's absinthe?!? I decided on cherry amaretto and was so happy I did. Creamy and flavorful with large chunks of cherry and almonds. All of their ingredients are top notch. Great place to enjoy dessert and the sights of Frankfort Ave.
(5)Caroline N.
My hosts in KY told me about this place. I knew I'd like it from previous Yelp reviews and photos. And I was right! The ice cream IS good (can't say much about anything besides the simple chocolate flavor). The atmosphere inside is "different" - the way they decorated somewhat is a bit peculiar - but just interesting enough? The only thing I would like to tell management is: To get rid of the freaky mannequin inside the ladies' bathroom. It is SCARY to walk in and see that thing in the dark... Otherwise, it's a great place for out of towners and locals - lots of seating, good for groups and conversations over dessert. The front counter area is so PRETTY (great lighting, guys!) Almost hipster-ish? Makes for some good photos...
(5)Dale R.
I've ate here once and ever since then it's been my favorite. They have several different flavors and they seem to change them up every month. The cost was reasonable and the line moved fast for how many people were there. If you are a true cream fan then I recommend that you stop here. They offer several waffle cones or a bowl to eat out of.

We just recently relocated to Louisville, so we've been looking forward to a visit to Comfy Cow (based on reviews). Thank you, my dear Yelpers! It's the coolest local ice cream shop we've ever visited! (We didn't think we could ever possibly find a replacement for our much beloved Amy's Ice Cream shop in Austin, TX.) The ice cream flavors are so unique and delectable. My tots had a simple scoop of strawberry with rainbow sprinkles. The husband and I split a flight of bourbon ball, chocolate chip cookie dough, and fresh coffee. Just absolute deliciousness from first bite to last. We really enjoyed relaxing at a table, admiring the unique decor (what's upstairs?), chit-chatting, looking over a local magazine....um, until our tots started getting rowdy. :@. We'll be back!
(5)Gianne T.
This is my second times here . The staffs were very friendly. They made is very comfortable. They know their menu really well . They let us tried different kinds of ice cream . Their sizes are very generous too . My bf loved his mint chocolate chips . I got the peachy keen ice cream which was amazing. We will definitely come back to comfy cow. I live in in lexington, wish comfy cow will come to lex.

There's nothing better than a go-to local ice cream place, and having a unique setting like the Comfy Cow in Clifton makes it a -- dare I say it -- udderly awesome experience altogether! Set on "The Avenue" smack in the middle of a slew of great restaurants, this Comfy Cow location occupies the old Ginny's diner building. I'm told that Ginny's diner used to have huge hamburgers that could give a person a heart attack. While I love a good burger, I have to confess that I would rather suffer a heart attack due to too much ice cream than due to an oversized burger. With the new tenants, you could never tell that the sherbet-colored Queen Anne Victorian house ever did anything except churn out the freshest, most innovative ice cream flavors ever imagined this side of paradise. The facade alone is enough to put a smile on anyone's face, as the bright colors remind me of warm places like Miami and Charleston, SC in the midst of cold or gloomy weather. Sidle on up to the front and peruse the menu. Flavors change periodically and represent seasonal, fresh ingredients. At this particular location, you're guaranteed the freshest of "fresh-churned" ice cream, as all the batches of ice cream shipped out to other Comfy Cow locations are made at the Clifton store. Once you've chosen (don't worry if it takes you 10 minutes to decide -- it often takes me quite a bit of time, as well as a few samples, before I know what I want to order), grab a seat, and enjoy your new favorite flavor. (Comfy) Cow-abunga, dudes!
(5)Kelly P.
The Comfy Cow is amazing. It's ice cream, so that's the first indicator that it's going to blow your mind; but, then it's not just any ice cream, it's some of the best, most inventive, ice cream I've ever had! They offer seasonal and monthly flavors, so the menu's always changing. Of course they keep some signature flavors up year round, and those are also amazing. They have a flavor called Cow Tracks that is peanut butter and chocolate heaven. They also offer "foodie flavors" monthly and those are the ones that I really tend to go for. This month they have a flavor called Southern Jam Cake, which is caramel flavored ice cream loaded with pieces of homemade jam cake and a swirl of blackberry jam. I love all things Kentucky, so this traditional flavor really rocked my socks! They also offer pies, brownies, ice cream treats for your pup, and more. Seriously, go check it out!

I am a sucker for ice cream, but in all honesty, who isn't? With that, I must say that I love comfy cow! When I come here, I feel like I am cheating on a boyfriend (Graeters,) - but you know, if you're going to do something wrong, you might as well do it right. Comfy Cow is aesthetically pleasing as it is palette-wise. What I find neat about Comfy Cow is the plethora of flavors they have to offer with clever names. There are so many that tend to be non-descriptive in their names, so you kind of almost have to try all of them .... :)
(5)Jen B.
Super yummy ice cream. I had the baklava ice cream and it was delicious. Super cute place too as it's set inside a Victorian house.
(4)Emily R.
Maybe my favorite ice cream shop ever and that's saying a lot because I LOVE ice cream! We moved here last summer from Denver and wanted to try all of the big ice cream spots in town. We thought we found our favorite until we found Comfy Cow. From the variety of flavors, quality of ice cream, environment, etc, it's top notch. Service is always very friendly and let's us taste multiple flavors. Oreo cookie is awesome and last time they had this delicious peanut butter pretzel. Definitely the best ice cream spot in town.
(5)Marco D.
It's a very nice place. Offers a good variety of flavors, but I couldn't find some basic flavors like hazelnut etc. Anyway the ice cream was really good (compared to the American standard I mean). The staff is very gentle and it's a pleasure to stay inside. I came at 22:30 and there was a 5 minutes line.
(4)Alyx F.
LOVE. Such an adorable ice cream spot with truly delicious and unique flavors. I got the two flavors in mine (the one with peanut butter cups and the red velvet). Really delicious ice cream that doesn't coat your mouth with sugar since they use great ingredients. Would highly recommend if you are in the area!
(5)Carly S.
I brought a group from Down Syndrome of Louisville to Comfy Cow on Friday for some Trolley Hop fun, and they were so lovely and kind. They had plenty of space for my whole group to hang out and everyone raved about the ice cream! The two most popular flavors were Monster Cookie Dough and Cookies and Cream.
(5)Joseph T.
Long lines. Kind of expensive. Standard ice cream. Nothing too special. Got the chocolate and marshmallow. Didn't taste any marshmallow. I prefer local joints. Have better selections. But this isn't bad or the ice cream fix. I'll visit again. One day.

How can you not be a fan of an ice cream place that boasts a cow rocking the Burt-Reynolds-on-the-bearskin-rug pose? Answer: you can't. It's the definition of awesome. Now that you have the rules, you're ready for some ice cream... and jelly. The Comfy Cow doesn't do anything on the small scale so just get ready for some eating. Take your time to study the menu. Not only are there plenty of great flavors to capture your imagination, the signature sundae line is VERY impressive. Most of these bad boys are probably best shared but: 1.) you know me; 2.) sharing melty ice cream... gross; 3.) I'm an only child... you see where this is going. I had to get a sundae all for myself. It's sort of a requirement -- for research. Needing a constant, I stayed away from the signature lines and built my own sundae using the Big Brown as my base. What's the Big Brown? Glad you asked: a large brownie, served with hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry and with the ice cream of your choice. I selected Bourbon Ball and Maple Walnut. Yeah, I said "and." And?? As if I needed to prove my American-ness, I ordered a 'sweet' (see Hillbilly Tea) bottled red tea to go with. Yep, it's the old diet-coke-with-a-Big-Mac but this time in dessert form. USA! USA! While my fans broke out the red, white and blue, I dug into my masterpiece. The ice cream flavors weren't ones that I'd usually pick but they were expertly made. The Bourbon Ball lived up to its Kentucky expectations and the Maple Walnut was a nice subtle flavor that added depth to my sugar overload. The brownie probably couldn't stand on its own as a dessert, but topped with so much excess, it more than played the role of base for toppings and ice cream. I won't lie: I ended my gorge session with a distended belly, a bit of pain and some regret. But would I do it all again? Yep. Research is important, folks. Think about the scientific method. Would Einstein have stopped postulating theories? C'mon!
(4)John I.
Top notch. Highly Recommend. Prefer over their competitor now that it's in my neighborhood.
(5)Adam C.
Great concept! I could see them franchising across the country. I like to see local businesses do well and grow beyond the state, this one has a real chance. That being said, as far as icecream there is only so much you can do. Yes it is good, yes I think they have a unique and cool concept for marketing. I would stop in if I was in the area and wanted something sweet, but if Coldstone or Pie Kitchen was on the way I would probably stop there first out of convenience. Some unique flavors you won't find anywhere else, so you are sure to find something you like.
(4)Amy L.
Fun place. This one is a nice location with lots of seating. As far as food, I can't really think of anything anyone has gotten that wasn't tasty. A great louisville chain!
(4)Jules Wolfers D.
This is the place you have to try if you drive by in Louisville, if you're in mood for ice cream. They like to tweak with flavors- last time I was there, I tried Mexican Chocolate Ole- which is of dark chocolate and chili (sharp taste)- and wow, that blew me away!!! The environment is fun as well- I love how they try to stick to vintage looks, yet modern at the same time. A regular here for sure!
(5)Drew P.
I guess all I can do is echo the love for this place. They have the BEST Key Lime ice cream I've ever had. All others leave me wanting a real KL pie while theirs satisfies like the real thing. The "Cow Tracks" is amazing! I thought it would be too clumpy and dense but it wasn't at all. Considering what's in it I'd say it had a pretty clean finish. This is artisan ice cream at the top level. All the stores are decorated well and have a great updated rustic eclectic feel. They're all really comfortable but this one is the biggest and most impressive. The fact that they took over the old house at this problematic address is really cool and I think it's pretty fortunate for the neighborhood that things worked out they way they did.
(5)Kathy V.
Yummy ice cream, adorable decor, and friendly staff. what more do you really need?
(4)Kristen W.
Another great Comfy Cow location, this one being the largest of the current three. Same great ice cream and service, and the best location to bring a group and not feel cramped. I ordered an ice cream cake from this location for the hubs's birthday (small, customer's choice with white cake and red velvet cake ice cream... very meta). While the design wasn't the most elegant (all-white iced cake with "Happy Golden Brithday" written in yellow and a brown decorative trim around the base) the taste was fantastic and the price similar to Graeter's (the only other ice cream cake I've purchased).
(5)Mari G.
On recent cold/windy/sleeting night, my friends and I decided that ice-cream was a necessary addition to our lives and decided to try the Comfy Cow as we had heard a lot of great things about it. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. Admittedly, I am very hard to please when it comes to ice cream. Maybe it's because my first job at the ripe age of 14 was at a local Cold Stone Creamery and it transformed me into a giant ice-cream snob or maybe it's because I just don't lose my marbles over the dessert like others seem to....but either way, I wasn't impressed. I judge ice cream by a pretty simple set of criteria --is it better than what I can find in the store? And --hear me out --I believe that ice-cream sold and made in an ice-cream shop should be better than something I could by in a tub at the store. The ingredients should be fresher, the toppings should be original, I should be able to eat something in the ice cream shop that I cannot eat elsewhere. And with the Comfy Cow, I could. My friends were pretty creative with their choices and chose flavors such as red-velvet cake (which tasted like licorice, by the way) and caramel something-or-other, but I...I believe that an ice-cream shop lives and dies by their basic flavors --vanilla and chocolate. I ordered a scoop of chocolate in a chocolate dipped sugar cone. "A scoop" at the shop is extremely generous, so they scored major points for that and the pricing was reasonable ($3.) My chocolate ice cream was, okay. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible, just okay. My cone was fine too although the chocolate covered-part definitely tasted waxy. Eh. My friends had similar reactions as well. Now, they do lose their marbles over ice cream and while they definitely enjoyed what they ordered there was still some longing for something more. This establishment certainly has potential, but there seems to be a lot of room for growth (despite the fact that there are several locations.) The workers were really friendly and patient with us, which was awesome, but despite all of that, I just wasn't super excited about the ice cream I had.

I like ice cream the way R. Kelly likes underaged girls (except I don't urinate on my ice cream), so when we took a family road trip, I had to find a great ice cream joint along the way. Thanks to Yelp, we mde our way to the Comfy Cow. Holy freaking crap. I'll just say that this is the best ice cream I have ever tasted (sorry Wall's Ice Cream in Miami). It's that good. I tried 7 flavors, and every single one of them was great. The standouts were Cookie Monster Dough (cookie dough and chocolate chips in cookie dough-based ice cream) and Dulce de Leche (subtly salty -- perfect). They make their own ice cream on site, so you know it's fresh. Comfy Cow, I'm glad I found you.

Just a few months ago we spent 10 days in Rome and I am pretty certain we didn't go a day without eating gelato. Having just moved to the Louisville area, and wanting to try out a local ice creamery, Comfy Cow caught my eye due to its Yelp reviews and name. Still, I wasn't expecting to be wowed since I still have memories of Roman gelato to compare to. Turns out this ice cream was right on par with my gelato experiences in Rome. It was wonderfully creamy and yummy. So much fresh peach flavor in the Peachy Keen and the other flavor (browned butter something or other) was just as yummy. If you're gonna use your calories up for a sweet treat, this is definitely the place you want to spend them. And since a certain percentage of the flavors rotate, you'll want to come back frequently to try them all.

Bad Comfy Cow Etiquette: When asked if you want to go to the The Comfy Cow, give your significant other a squeeze and say, "I've got my Comfy Cow right here!" *** Good Comfy Cow Etiquette: Chow down on one of The Comfy Cow's enormous Masterpiece Sundaes with your sweetie, rub your protruding bellies, and feel like very unComfy Cows together! The Nephew recommended the Cow Tracks which is Peanut Butter Ice Cream loaded with Chocolate and Peanut Butter Chips. So we got the RIN TIN TIM SUNDAE that had 3 generous scoops of Cow Tracks ice cream, a fudge brownie, and lots of chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and crushed peanuts on top. The ice cream was smooth and creamy but I think next time I could skip the brownie. My Sister loves the signature Salty Caramel flavor so I will definitely be back to give it a try! *** Yes, my friend's hubby really did say this. Luckily she has a good sense of humor!
(4)Kellyo O.
I love this Comfy Cow! It is so fun! Love that they come up with new flavors all the time. I had Mint Julep this time and couldn't finish my kid cone. It was good, just too much of the same flavor. I did however abscond with my hubby's cone which was really good but I can't remember the name ; ) Too bad he tackled me to get it back. And yes I did offer to trade the rest of my cone but he didn't want to trade. I guess I just need to run faster next time!

OUTSTANDING ice cream and cookies --- yes, the ginger snap cookies are outstanding. It must be the red pepper they add to it-- very good. The flavors change on the ice cream each month, and we have yet to ever taste a flavor that wasn't really yummy. The price is very reasonable, and the atmosphere is one you will not forget. Great place to date or have a party.

Excellent ice cream and establishment--very comfortable seating with lots of room but not nearly so antiseptic as some ice cream parlors. This place is, well, comfy without being sloppy, and I should shout out to the Derby ice cream with pecan pie pieces, bourbon, chocolate--a delight! It even convinced my mother that the salted caramel ice cream, while delicious, was not the only fish in the sea. I take one star off because it seems the turn around for an ice cream cake cannot be spontaneous--when I called on a Thursday morning for a birthday cake for my mother on Friday night, I was told that a cake with the Derby ice cream needed to be ordered 48 hours in advance. Other cakes with chocolate or vanilla ice cream were available for pick up, but custom flavors required two days notice. Perhaps I've been spoiled by Graeter's and Homemade Ice Cream and Pie, and perhaps the Comfy Cow ice cream cake is truly magnificent and really does require the two days prep, but I was surprised by this. Whatever. I'm sure I'm just being petty. The ice cream was delicious and I'm sorry we couldn't get the cake!

If Jesus himself returned to earth and raised all brilliant ice cream technicians from the dead to be put into a secret government bunker, then tasked them with the job of creating an ice cream that would melt the heart of Satan himself, it would be the stuff sold at Comfy Cow. This ice cream is amazing. It was soft. But not melty or runny. I was eating in a cone for 20+ minutes and the bottom of the cone had ZERO goop at the bottom. It was amazing. And the taste. Holy crap, the taste. I've had a bunch of ice cream. Nothing this good. Ever.
(5)Susan M.
Amazing ice cream!! I love the way it smells inside. They have wonderful outdoor seating and a bowl of water for the dog. Great place. I wish it was closer to home!
(5)J B.
In my life, I've never had ice cream this good. Caramel De Leche is rich and salty, and I am still dreaming about the Key Lime pie flavor. The decor is as interesting and eccentric as the ice cream flavors. By far, the best ice cream in this town, or any other town.
(5)J L.
Simple review here. I had the pie. Loved it. My wife had a scoop of the ice cream. Service was great, the cowd was managed. My only reason for the 4 stars is the seating area was disorganized and a little dirty. I love local, I love the ice cream. I will be back, probably more often than I should be.

My Sister loves the signature Salty Caramel flavor so I will definitely be back to give it a try! *** Yes, my friend's hubby really did say this. Luckily she has a good sense of humor!

(4)Mia N.
Definitely the spot to hit up with some old friends or even new! Perfect date night spot. They have awesome flavors. As of right now, I love "a spot of tea". Taste just like Asian milk tea. Noooom! The place itself is super cute! The pink and the cow. Yeah, I definitely already fell in love with the color. My niece love the place but let's be real, what kid doesn't love an ice cream shop! They have a special where you can pick 3 flavors for less than $5! Definitely something to do when you can't seem to decide on a flavor.
(5)Mona T.
Best Ice Cream in Town. One walk into Comfy Cow, and you smell the sweet goodness. The flavors will not disappoint, and the flavors of the month are so enticing, you'll want to go back all month to try all of them. The Sundaes are decadent and large, so have a large appetite or a large crew if you decide to get one. This is also my favorite Comfy Cow in town with its quirky decor and cute exterior. You will definitely find a few conversation starters here.
(5)Ashley I.
The best ice cream I've ever had. The Cookie Monster dough is much better than your average cookie dough, as is the cow tracks compared to your average moose tracks. I love this place. Completely worth the wait if you visit at peak hours.
(5)Lena H.
(5)Ian G.
Yes. Just yes. Go here. Fantastic flavors and eclectic atmosphere, and even still, feels like home. My wife and I have found our late night, after date spot. And you better believe we'll be racking up the rewards. Download the Spot on app. They support it and have some great little rewards per purchase.
(5)John I.
Top notch. Highly Recommend. Prefer over their competitor now that it's in my neighborhood.
(5)Leigh W.
(5)Anne P.
I've been to the Frankfort Avenue stores. Frankfort is the more charming venue, but both are comfortable. I usually avoid high calorie foods like ice cream, but their ice cream is worth the splurge. The texture is super creamy and the flavors are intense and balanced. Scoops are generous. Servers are always friendly.
(5)Anastasia U.
They do have a gluten free menu for those of us with an allergy. It's not a very large menu-so be ready to only pick from about 10 flavors. I love the way the outside looks, I think that was why we chose to stop into this place. It is within walking distance to our house so we walked the dog down-the outside is a pale pink and is attached to an old victorian looking home. I love that vibe! I sat outside while Jason went in to order, longs lines but it moves pretty quick and the people helping behind the counter were friendly. Smiled, got us the GF menu and waited while we made our choices. They even have a pup pop, its something frozen that our furry daughter loved. Looks like it has some type of fruit in it but for our dog to eat it I imagine it had a bacon after flavor :) Prices are somewhat high but you pay for good ice cream. And the ice cream is all hand made I believe! You can taste the extra effort put in to making it! They also have a large assortment of choc covered banana's and food items like that.
(4)Brooke P.
Ice cream is a tradition in Louisville, and Comfy Cow takes it to a new level. The homemade ice cream is delicious- I had the delicious Cinammon French Toast and Dulce de Leche. The interior is also spacious- good for groups. Will definitely be back! Now if only they'd come up with some vegan ice cream for those of us that are lactose-intolerant ice cream lovers :)
(4)Kasey C.
The first time I went to the comfy cow, my husband and I split a cone of the cookie dough ice cream. Is it possible that ice cream can be too sweet? Apparently yes. It was one of those flavors that made your teeth hurt when you ate it. I seriously went home and brushed my teeth. (also, maybe this is a sign that I desperately need to haul myself to the dentist.) We went back a second time and got a sundae which I can't quite remember the name of; pretty sure it had the word BIG in it. I got a peanut butter/chocolate selection and it was delicious. I basically have to split everything with my husband to make it affordable for us. I would be amiss if I didn't write about the decor. Can I just say that if you choose to sit there, look for a seat outside or in the main ice cream room. The back rooms creep me out! You've got this very kitschy sock hop vibe in the ice cream room and then you walk into an old house that has a lot of dark female-body-art. Check out the photos of the ladies bathroom to see a bit of what I mean. There was a bucket of naked Barbies on the mantel. It's possible to overlook it though, as (for the most part) it is subtle.
(4)Karen C.
Cute little place. Atmosphere is great! Only one sorbet option for those lactose intolerant folks such as myself, The Arnold Palmer Sorbet, a combination of lemon and tea. It was only ok. My friend had the Cow Tracks ice cream and said it was really good. Reduced stars due to limited availability of non-dairy options.
(3)Chad P.
Delicious Ice cream made in the back of the building. My first lime visiting Comfy Cow and it was great! They have so many flavors and options it's hard to chose just one! I had the Lemon Cream with blueberries and it had a light summer taste to it. The lemon flavor was just right without being tart and it had whole blueberries!
(5)Kayla K.
It's a good place to grab a nice treat in the summer time although the seating arrangements they have can be a little awkward... you'll understand if you go here and are in one of the cramped little rooms with 15 other people. Other than that, I enjoy this place. It's open late so you can go there and get a little late night snack on certain days.
(4)John S.
If I could give it stars I would. I'm a ice cream snob and this was perhaps the best ice cream I've ever had. I had two different seasonal flavors Banana Pudding and Brown Butter. They should both be regular flavors. Simply amazing
(5)Jonathan H.
Comfy cow is hands down the best ice cream I have had in a long time. Their unique flavors won me and my wife over instantly. The pure southern ice cream reminded me of the holidays at my family's house with the pecan pie and chocolate and bourbon flavors. What? The holidays are fun at my family's house. Their sundaes are over the top decadence and now that I have the spot on app one day I will be designing my own flavor. Only 119 more check ins to go. Now off to the drawing board to come up with something unique because comfy cow, kind of like the Simpsons, have already come up with a lot.
(5)Scotty R.
Absolutely loved this place. We're an out of town family from Chicago with 3 year old twins and we sauntered over to this charming little spot after a less than stellar dining experience next door. We couldn't have found a better option for dessert! The establishment perfectly represents the charm of Louisville and the ice cream and sundaes were outstanding. We tried many different options of ice cream and were equally impressed by their incredible flavors. We also loved just hanging outside on a beautiful night and our girls loved when a group of FireFighters stopped by to grab a treat and they couldn't have been friendlier . This feels like a place with a history of many great family memories and will be on our list for a return trip our next visit to Louisville.

C'mon!
(4)Adam C.

(3)Rakesh G.
This place has the best ice cream around. I like that they have sorghum and grits ice cream and other random flavors. Service was great while I was there and they have Spot check in so I can expect free ice cream after so many visits.
(5)Janna F.
Dulce de leche de salte......need I say more? The only thing that could make this combination better would be chunks of dark chocolate.
(5)Emily R.
(5)Kristen W.
(5)Bruce R.
A royal palace of ice cream goodness. This was my first visit here (not for long) and had the staff recommended favorite of salted caramel ice cream. Outstanding, rich, creamy and flavorful. I will be a regular in this place on my visits to the area. I am seriously considering having this frozen gold shipped to my home address.
(4)Matt B.
(4)Ari T.
(5)Cate W.

(5)Joseph T.
Long lines. Kind of expensive. Standard ice cream. Nothing too special. Got the chocolate and marshmallow. Didn't taste any marshmallow. I prefer local joints. Have better selections. But this isn't bad or the ice cream fix. I'll visit again. One day.
(3)Ashley I.
The best ice cream I've ever had. The Cookie Monster dough is much better than your average cookie dough, as is the cow tracks compared to your average moose tracks. I love this place. Completely worth the wait if you visit at peak hours.

(5)Jessica B.
Comfy Cow is the only ice cream worth eating in Louisville! I'll gladly pay a little extra for something local and health-ier. I love the atmosphere and flavors!
(5)Andrea U.
(5)Shawn N.

I've ate here once and ever since then it's been my favorite. They have several different flavors and they seem to change them up every month. The cost was reasonable and the line moved fast for how many people were there. If you are a true cream fan then I recommend that you stop here. They offer several waffle cones or a bowl to eat out of.
(5)Rachel R.
Hello dairy my old friend. I've come to eat you up again. How do I put this? Wowwy wow wow! So many flavors, so many seating options! Outside, cushy chair side, in the nook, with a book! Flavor names rock, too!

Great variety of flavors. Staff is super courteous and helpful. Building has an awesome vibe to it with plenty of outdoor seating. Portion sizes are pretty generous (one regular scoop can fill you up!). Prices were moderate. The Bourbon Ball ice cream got me a good buzz on an empty stomach. Definitely try one of their unique flavors.

Yes. Just yes. Go here. Fantastic flavors and eclectic atmosphere, and even still, feels like home. My wife and I have found our late night, after date spot. And you better believe we'll be racking up the rewards. Download the Spot on app. They support it and have some great little rewards per purchase.
(5)Mia N.

(5)Expert F.
Best ice cream I've ever had, and excellent made-in-house waffle cone bowls. I had the yellow cake ice cream AND the sea salt and caramel ice cream. Sublime. Perfect. One thing you will notice is the texture of the ice cream. It is thicker. It has substance. You can detect the individual ingredients. Just fantastic. This rivals the best gelato in both taste and the ability to create unique flavors.
(5)A P.
(5)Laura W.
Amaaaaaazing cake batter ice cream! The Cookie Monster was ok. It was a cute place that I would probably frequent to try different flavors if I lived in town.
(4)Brian R.

One day.
(3)Ashley I.
The best ice cream I've ever had. The Cookie Monster dough is much better than your average cookie dough, as is the cow tracks compared to your average moose tracks. I love this place. Completely worth the wait if you visit at peak hours.
(5)Linda M.

To be honest, an ice cream shop has to do a lot wrong for me to rate it poorly. So yeah -- low bar. But I try to keep that in mind, by making sure the spots that get a five-star rating really stand out. Like stand heads and shoulders -- cones and scoops -- above other ice cream shops. And Comfy Cow easily does this. It first brings you in with its unique and kitschy shop and then wows you with its wide range of quality flavors. So, about the first of those: You'll likely notice the two large, connected pink buildings that make up the Frankfort Avenue Comfy Cow when you first pull up. Several locals mourned the loss of Ginny's Diner and its Frickle Pickles, which was at this spot before Comfy Cow, but it would be hard to find someone who doesn't think Comfy Cow was a great addition to The Avenue. And once inside, you'll hopefully notice the stools painted that are black and white cow spots and that include wooden udders. They are my favorite! And the seating area, which is mostly in the large pink house next door, is decorated with a mix of old lady/country/eccentric collector chic. It holds, among other things, a pickle crock full of headless Barbies, and the walls of the women's bathroom are covered in ladies' shoes. Weird, but oddly home-y. Trust me. OK, now onto the ice cream. Among the kitsch and weird, I really hope you notice the large board listing a ton of unique flavors. My favorite is the Dulce de Leche de Salte -- a salted caramel ice cream. I've never had anything bad here, and I'm including the butter-pecan-esque ice cream with corn in it. Comfy Cow also has seasonal flavors. On my most recent visit, these included a mint julep flavor -- surprisingly good! -- and the "Policeman's Special," a coffee ice cream with doughnuts from Nord's Bakery mixed in. You should also ask about the $30 or $40 -- I can't remember -- sundae that includes a ton of ice cream. There's also a challenge where you get something if you eat something like 15 scoops in one sitting. Comfy Cow definitely has a sense of humor. How many more reasons do you need to visit this Comfy Cow location? Go there now and be insanely happy!
(5)Johanna L.
Super cute and fun spot for those hot summer nights. Lots of flavors and samples are available. There are various rooms to enjoy your ice cream. We sat out outside in rocking chairs. Perfect night to spend the evening. Good customer service.
(5)Samantha H.
Really enjoyed this place! Even the service was fabulous! The staff was fun & the music was jumpin! Had cake batter and it was yummy! Gem!
(5)Sara T.
While Homemade Pie & Ice Cream (across the street) is my favorite, this is a close second. They have the most creative, delicious flavors and the building is really creative.
(5)Francesca H.
I freaking love the ice cream here. They know what they are doing here. If you come here you should try the caked up flavor. If you're look for a good place to cool off I'd come here. Check this place out.
(5)Sarah C.
(4)Brad G.
(5)Morgan E.
(5)Samantha F.
Their seasonal flavors are delicious. The strawberry shortcake was awesome and I love that they have doggy flavors! The location on Frankfort is super convenient! Especially during trolley hop, Frankfort is a great place to hang out.
(4)Michael M.
eclectic and a little weird which makes it really fun. The interior designers seemed to have had a ton of fun decorating this place. Even the bathrooms were fun and whimsical. Huge menu of treats and deserts. Everything my family ordered spelled and looked great. And my family loved everything they ordered. I don't eat sugar so i was disappointed among the huge menu of flavors there were no treats for sugar free or no sugar added people. Since 1 in 4 Americans are diabetic, pre-diabetic, obese, or have sugar and or dairy sensitivity you'd think they would add a few things to the menu for them so they can come here along with those friends and family who eat the normal stuff. Parking can be tough, especially in spring and summer when more people are outside. But it's located on a great street that is fun to walk and window shop or people watch.
(4)Rakesh G.
(4)Suzanne B.

(5)Leigh W.

Super cute and fun spot for those hot summer nights. Lots of flavors and samples are available. There are various rooms to enjoy your ice cream. We sat out outside in rocking chairs. Perfect night to spend the evening. Good customer service.

(5)Ian G.
Yes. Just yes. Go here. Fantastic flavors and eclectic atmosphere, and even still, feels like home. My wife and I have found our late night, after date spot. And you better believe we'll be racking up the rewards. Download the Spot on app. They support it and have some great little rewards per purchase.

(5)Amy C.
(5)Ronald B.

(5)Emily R.
(4)Sarah C.
(4)Brad G.
(5)Morgan E.
(5)Amanda C.
(5)Kelly G.
Great fun store with deliciousness. SO MUCH DELICIOUS. Seriously, people. Plus, it's a super funky place!
(5)Laura W.
Amaaaaaazing cake batter ice cream! The Cookie Monster was ok. It was a cute place that I would probably frequent to try different flavors if I lived in town.
(4)Brian R.

(5)Samantha F.
Their seasonal flavors are delicious. The strawberry shortcake was awesome and I love that they have doggy flavors! The location on Frankfort is super convenient! Especially during trolley hop, Frankfort is a great place to hang out.
(4)J B.
(4)Ari T.
(5)Cate W.
