Best lunch in or near SoFo for the $. Wide variety of sandwiches, salads, soups, & pasta. Every sandwich can be a wrap! Second best Cuban in town. They give calorie counts on most meals excluding daily specials.

I love this place! I have been coming here for about 6 months now, their pulled pork sandwiches are to die for! I believe they serve that on wednesday, but you HAVE to get in before 12:30 because they're usually sold out pretty quickly! Also the staff is very friendly. Cheers!

I've been to City Cafe three times, because I work very close by. The food is hit-or-miss. My first visit, I had a club, and it was better than average. The second time, I had the daily meat special, which I don't remember because it was mediocre. And my third trip, I tried the cubano. It was very small. It wasn't made on Cuban bread. It wasn't made in a plancha. It had thick dill chips instead of thinly sliced dill pickle. I couldn't detect the ham, I think they use deli ham instead of thick cut glazed ham. I think they used pulled pork. But I think the cheese was swiss. I wasn't terrible, but it wasn't very good, and it definitely was not a cubano. It was a pork and swiss panini, I guess. On this visit, my wife had the daily meat special, a gyro, and the meat was not good at all, and not even warm to the touch. If I were to rate based on today's visit only, it would be 2 stars. But, because I know they aren't always this bad, and because the service is very friendly, I'm giving them three stars.

If this place weren't so daggone easy to get to for lunch, I would never go. There are upsides, it's cheap and there are more than a handful of options. There are many more downsides though: it's always crowded (not a clue why except for that it's the only cheap sandwich cafe around), the food takes forever to get (not their problem so much as the size of the kitchen), and the food is, for lack of a better word, bland. I'd say the general rule of thumb is, don't go here if you don't have to. But if you do, it's decent.

I eat there several times a week, the food is always great and very affordable. The owner is right there giving you your order, it's that extra personal touch and the quality that keeps me and my friends coming back.

City Cafe used to be one of my lunch staples. It was quick, good and affordable. Notice that I am using the past tense here. For the past year the food quality has gone consistently down. I can't remember the last time I got a good meal here. Which is sad because I used to love the place. I became vegetarian 6 months ago and the options for vegetarian here just are not appealing. Soup and salad are fine once in a while but most of the time I don't want an entree drowning in cheese or some sort of cream sauce. Surely they can do do better than this? I hope they eventually raise the standard back to what I enjoyed.

Just wrapped up lunch here. I asked what was popular and they said The Nord sandwich. The description didn't look like much but I tried it anyway. They failed to mentioned the delicious pairing of pesto chicken, cheddar cheese and sweet BBQ sauce! What an incredible sandwich! Highly recommend The Nord.

Previously had their delivered cold sandwiches which were good, so with that in mind, I thought I would visit to check out what else they had. Today's special was a chicken pot pie and broccoli soup. The pot pie was a bit impressive, considering I do not like pot pies; however the bottom of the puff pastry was burnt and I had to add more than the recommended amount of salt, pepper and hot sauce to give both the pot pie and soup any flavor. I was also not happy with the temperature of my food either. The Nord sandwich I ordered for my daughter was a disgrace. A toddler could throw together a better sandwich than that. I can at least say the employees were friendly, and it was a cozy place.

Best all around lunch spot in downtown Louisville. Daily meat and veg specials are posted online and supplement a menu of salads and sandwiches. There is a soup or pasta of the day included with the specials along with a drink for around $7.50. There is also a sandwich of the month. Soups are very food but it's hard to pass up the delicious house salad with house Dijon vinaigrette.

Great lunch place especially if you want vegetarian. Friendly folks great menu with 3 different specials every day. It isn't table service, you stand in line and place your order and then bring it back to your table. High quality food, quick and pleasant environment. My tried and true lunch choice

The walls are usually decorated with kooky artwork and the workers are nice (but service is consistently slow). I can't say much for the food fare. They have daily food specials which are hit or miss (generally miss). Their sandwiches are just so-so. Their soups generally have no taste. There are dishes you suspect no one could botch -- somehow this location manages to do it. The tacos are good and their bacon is quality. If you must stop in, try something including one of those. Mostly, The cost is too pricey and I have always felt dissatisfied upon departure.

I ordered lunch from here yesterday and gave them 1 star because I had too... The meat special was boiled chicken at best with some BBQ sauce and bread that was worse than if it had been old... The mac n cheese would have been better out a box, in fact why the heck would you put some bitter herbs in it?!?! I honestly never had such a terrible meal in my life that I chose to starve rather than force myself to eat it! I can't imagine how this place stays in business...

Been eating here for 6 months, once or twice a week, close to where I work. The prices are reasonable, and the food is always great. If your in a hurry it's always better to come a little earlier, because it can fill up after 12. The quality stays consistent because the owner is always there, and takes an interest in what is served and the quality of the ingredients. They smoke their own meats, not some stuff from SYSCO or out of a food plant somewhere in Mexico or China.

Great lunch spot! I've rarely ordered off the standing menu since the daily specials are always so enticing. There is always a vegetarian and a meat option on the special menu and each is served with a soup or salad, bread, butter and a drink. If you order the salad, definitely get the house dressing. It's a mustardy vinagrette and it's delicious. In addition to being tasty, the specials are also generous portions, enough to carry you throughout the rest of your busy day until you find time for a late dinner. I've been lunching at City Cafe for over 10 years and I've never seen a lunch special repeated. How do they keep coming up with new ideas? I'll never know, but I'll keep going back to try the unique dishes. The food is great. The location is convenient for those who do business downtown. But I also love their friendly staff. The cashiers, the kitchen staff and the servers are always happy, call you by name and add a sparkle to your mid-day.

Great lunch place. I have had lunch here about 5 times in the last two weeks while on business in Louisville. The service is very friendly and pretty darn quick considering how busy they get. They have awesome specials every day. For example, today I had 2 pork tacos with fresh pico, sour cream and a yummy sweet spicy sauce along with a side salad and a drink. The ingredients are local, and they have so many options given the size of the restaurant. Another favorite special, which they had today and I was seriously torn, is the hummus platter. A huge scoop of hummus, olives, fresh veggies to dip in the hummus, and pita bread on the side. This also comes with a side of your choosing and a drink. Needless to say, I wish the cafe in my office in Atlanta had such fresh, healthy options. Oh, and I forgot to mention that they actually post the calorie count for the majority of their menu items on the menu. Can't beat it in this area. If you work near here, you have to try it.

Probably my favorite place for lunch in all of downtown Louisville. Daily, weekly, and monthly specials. Can't really go wrong with anything on the menu, salads are bigger and better than any salad place around. The Club is my go to sandwhich on the menu, generous helpings of meat, everything is fresh, and the shallot mayo is the "cherry" on top that really makes this a great sandwhich. Customer service is beyond amazing, owner is always out and about making sure customers are satisfied. City Cafe is the spot in downtown Louisville.
