Cheese is good. Deep fried cheese is even better. And deep fried cheese dipped in guacamole? I think I'm in love. The object of my affection? Bristol's green chili "wontons." The Bristol is a quintessential Louavul restaurant that has been around for about 30 years. It's got the basics - salads, pasta, burgers, etc. I also like to get their Grilled Chicken and Spinach Salad (you know, to balance out the wontons). Check it out if you are ever in the Bluegrass state!

This review is getting the four stars over three due to our waiter as he was fantastic. I've been to this Bristol location a few times and the food is just the same as all of the other locations, but the atmosphere is much different. As there is a location on Bardstown Road and Main Street, it's much more low-key here. When we arrived around 6:30 on a Saturday, there were only 3 full tables; however, it did fill up more as we ate. The food here is definitely above average bar food. We had the Green Chili Wontons, the Chicken Quesadilla and the Mediterranean Pasta dish. All of our food came out quickly and warm. As I began the review, what made our experience significantly better was our waiter. I really wish I had gotten his name. He was energetic, friendly, and very knowledgable. He was someone that seemed to enjoy his job. This is a place to check out if in the area. It's also a good spot for a quick business lunch.

We've been going here for Sunday brunch for years now, and it never changes. They have the typical brunch spread (fried chicken, waffle station, desserts, meats, grits, etc). Some people like the fried chicken, but it's a bit bland for me. Honestly, everything here is a bit bland for me. Like, every single dish is perfectly passable. But I never think "god, what I really want is the [insert food item here] from Bristol!" Call ahead for reservations to be on the safe side, it can get a little busy during prime brunch hours (around 11am).

Delicious burger! I came in tonight for a quick dinner and a few drinks so I sat at the bar. The bartender was very quick to get my order. I ordered the burger and it came out cooked just to my liking(medium rare). I was a little worried about the English muffin its served on at first but I am definitely a believer now. It set the burger off perfectly. I highly recommend stopping by and giving this place a try. The drinks and food are very good. I recommend sitting at the bar although the dining room and patio both looked very nice and pretty packed for a Thursday night.

It looks like the disease that has infected the Bristol in Prospect has moved out to this one as well. Sat at bar and had to wait almost 10 minutes before I could even get a menu. Despite that I had tried to get both bar tenders attention... No high hopes in the food. These used to be such good local restaurants.

Started with a fantastic house made french dressing then to the NY strip. Normally I don't use steak sauce but the steak sauce had a delicious tangy taste so I had to use it. All around great experience.

Overall great food and great service. This is a resturant where you'd bring a first date, or a place where you should bring your wife on your anniversary.

Great Sunday brunch and if you get there early no waiting! The only time you need to make a reservation is Mother's day, Easter, Derby weekend and Fathers day. Fresh salads, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and their famous cheese grits! There's biscuits and gravy, pastries and freshly made belgian waffles with add your own toppings. For those who want more of a lunch they have great fried chicken, green beans and a potato dish. Did I mention the fresh fruit and assortment of desserts? Not bad for $16 a person! Drinks are extra but their coffee is really good! The only downside to the buffet style brunch is sometimes the bacon isn't very crisp and the sausage can be overdone and a bit dry. Service has always been good, prompt and efficient. Plus we like patronizing locally owned businesses!

Food was well prepared but not excellent. Service was adequate but not friendly. Seating area was not full and staff seemed either into cell phone browsing or hanging out in the kitchen. Felt like an episode of restaurant impossible was needed.

Great service and yummy food! Servers are friendly and make you feel right at home. Green chili wontons! Enough said!

Stopped in for a quick dinner with my parents. We had been visiting the Louisville area for most of the week and this restaurant happened to be close to our hotel. I wasn't very impressed with the menu, and felt that there weren't very many options. I ordered the linguine bolognese, and I was t overly impressed with my selection (especially since it was $15). It was under-seasoned and I could tell their water for cooking the pasta wasn't seasoned. The balsamic vinaigrette had a little too much balsamic for my liking. My mother had one of the burgers from the menu, and she thought it was pretty good...but not for $11. My father enjoyed his meal, the pork dijonaise. The service wasn't very good. There were many people in the restaurant when we were there. So it was a little odd to not have our server around when we were ready for our bill.

My husband and I ate dinner here on a Saturday night while visiting Louisville. We had great service and the food was tasty. We ordered the green chile eggrolls and the artichoke fritters for an appetizer. He had a whiskey flight with a Hot Brown. I had a glass of Beaujolais with the chicken in a berry sauce, asparagus, and polenta. We enjoyed the food and would go back.

The place is locally owned and had a real nice atmosphere. The house cab was only marginal but the wahoo was well prepared.

Good go to place if you live in the area or are staying in a hotel nearby. The Bardstown Road and the downtown location have much better service. The Mojito was excellent, but the wait for the waiter to bring the drinks (they ran out of the vodka that my husband ordered) and the wait between app, salads and entres was excessive for the number of diners on a Tuesday night. Food prices were a bit high for the type of restaurant and atmosphere.

A dependable Louisville icon, the Bristol never disappoints. The green chili won-tons are always a treat. Try the pork dijionaise with fried potatoes, you won't be disappointed. The Sunday morning all-you-can eat brunch, while lacking an omelet station, is always upscale and extremely tasty. The Bardstown Rd location even has live string music during the Sunday brunch.

I am always so critical of the Bristol. I don't know, maybe its because I have had such mixed feelings about my meals. But this visit was exceptional. When going to the Bristol you have to have either the green chili wontons or the artichoke fritters...or both. The green chili wontons are stuffed with cheese and deep fried served with a guacamole sauce. Everyone will fight you for these, I promise. The artichoke fritters remind me of my grandmother who would make something similar when I was a kid. Artichoke mixed with egg and flour and fried served with a remoulade sauce. Simply delicious. The Bristol garden salad was cold, fresh and crisp with greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots and onions and some cheese ( I think monterey jack) sprinkled on top. I had their balsamic vinaigrette dressing which was also good. A true test for me is the Bristol Burger...and this time it was perfect in every way. Medium rare oozing blood makes my mouth water just thinning about it. The toasted english muffin could have been a bit more toasted for my taste but overall it is was a perfect burger. My companion had the Pork Dijonnaise which was cooked tender and served with a delicious sauce that combines butter, brown sugar and dijonnaise mustard...can't go wrong with that combination, can you? Skillet fries joined the plate for a perfect combination and that sauce...do they have an IV? The meal was accompanied by some CA wine and great service. So this time...kudos to chefs and staff!!

One of my boyfriend's favorite places to eat. He's been going for years. This was my first time and the Thai Wontons on the appetizer list were so unique and delicious, I'll order them every time now!!

I went here for lunch with some colleagues. I had the Hot Brown since I wanted to get a taste of Kentucky. The open faced sandwich was quite tasty. Service at this place was just ok. It was at lunchtime so there was a lot of people to be served.

Decent food. Love the green chilli wontons. Absolutely awful service. It has always been this way over the past decade and only at this location. Today I tried again after at least a 5 year hiatus. No server for 15 minutes, bartender finally came to the rescue and service was fine after that. Unfortunately, the California Cobb salad has been changed from what I remember, and contained brown avocado and bits of shrimp peel. I give up on this location.

Just the drinks, ma'am. Happy hour on our first day in town took us to the Bristol. Hello bourbon flights! How I love the Bluegrass of Kentucky! Killer selection of bourbons, but I was running on fumes from an early flight. Quality selection of beers on tap, we'll have a few pints of the Hoegarten. They've got bloody Mary bars on the weekend and the outdoor patio is very nice. As it was, the beers and we were on our way.

Nothing says "post-Church brunch" like the Bristol. I have been coming here with my family, since it was an afterthought at the KY Center for the Arts. I marveled at the Bardstown location. The Market location, I find rather lackluster. As I grew older, my family moved east, so the Hurtsbourne location is where we find ourselves grazing after a long service. And, graze we do. The Bristol buffet is the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon. There are always plenty of meat options (fish too), great salads with tasty dressings, eggs, grits (yuck), veggies, biscuits with sausage gravy, waffles with fresh fruit, syrup and whipped cream, fresh cut melons & pineapples, and incredible desserts. As good as the food is, the service is even better. The waiters are usually cheery and always prompt. The managers have always looked out for my family and made sure that our experiences have been top notch. When we hadn't stopped in for a while, the manager came by our table to check in and make sure that everything was alright. I don't think that she checked in to shore up a customer base. I believe she checked in because she was genuinely interested and concerned. Over time, we have shared stories, laughs and tears. That's pretty special. Add in free refills of sweet tea, tonic water and/or Sprite, and you have one excellent brunch in Hurstborne. Comfort food, personable service and a familiar face - the Bristol could/should become a Sunday tradition for your family as well. I promise - you can make it through the LONGEST Sunday service if you know that you have some good Bristol food waiting for you. But don't wait too long because brunch is over at 2 pm.

It's ok. Nothing special. Not a big beer selection or exciting food. I pry won't go back.

Sunday brunch was good not great. Loys of choices, waldorf salad was tasty, eggs were a little runny and no omelet station. Also, no booze before 1 means no bloody marys. Would go back.

Please keep in mind that my experience here pertained only to the Brunch Buffet they have here on Sunday's. We went here post friend's wedding night, and needed some serious food to soak up the remaining alcohol in our stomachs. The food was extremely tasty (which is sometimes not the case when restaurants cook in bulk), and there was such a plethora of options... it really was astounding. Server took far too long to bring me my coffee (I'm talking 10-15 minutes), and for someone who's sole purpose on Sunday morning's is serving drinks, I thought that was a bit ridiculous. That was the only downfall though, and I would definitely recommend the brunch here to all.

A business trip took me to suburban Louisville and a hotel concierge recommendation took me to Bristol. It was touted as a Louisville institution. I read some reviews and tried the green chili wontons. All I can say is blah....having recently been in New Mexico, Mecca of all things green chili, my expectations may have been a bit high, but these things had frozen Sysco treats written all over 'em. I stuck with the theme and tried the quesadilla. Gah. Bristol needs to listen to Papa John- Cheap ingredients make for cheap dishes. On the positive side our waiter had the appropriate amount of flair.

Long time user of Yelp since I travel a lot but this is my first review... I went to Bristol on recommendation of the hotel. I'm always up for trying local places, even local chains, when I visit a new city. First off, the decor was rather uninspiring. It was kinda dark and generally reminded me of somewhere my grandparents would have dragged me to when I was a kid. That's appropriate, because the place seemed to be a magnet for baby boomers. Anyway, the menu looked pretty good at first. I settled on the shrimp and grits, which promised bacon, mushrooms, and a cayenne-butter sauce. Sounded like culinary perfection to me! Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. The sauce had not a trace of cayenne and was overall pretty bland. The grits where nowhere near the creamy grits one would expect in a shrimp and grits entree. Service was fine and attentive, nothing really extraordinary. I'm not a huge wine person, but they did seem to have a pretty extensive selection. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back unless I was in a hotel nearby and was stuck with what was in walking distance.

Bristol bar and grill is a nice place for brunch. They offers some real high-end fares as well as your regular staples. Today, I sampled ever many many different items from the brunch buffet. The beef tips were delicious with a hint of red wine. the grits and potatoes were all well seasoned. The mini Belgium waffles with real whipped cream and strawberry & banana slices DIY bar were perfect end for me. I don't have room for anything else. and the price is reasonable. so I'd go back again.

MR says ... simply "meh, i've experienced better" MRS says... according to some reviews i've read, BRISTOL is a must here in louisville. we've been in louisville for a year and still have not tried BRISTOL. so one evening we decided to give BRISTOL a try. the appetizer was ok. it was recommended by the server. he said it was their best selling appetizer. nothing exceptional really. its like any other fried cheese poppers type. there was a veal special that evening so i gave it a try. it was ok. meat was tender. the seasoning though was a bit salty. BRISTOL came up short to be exceptional on my list so considering food quality, price and atmosphere my overall experience would just be a "O-K"

If you are stuck in a local hotel and want a place you can walk to I suppose the Bristol Bar & Grille will do. The food is really second rate. Nothing on the menu stands out. On the other hand none of it will kill you either. For the price and a short car ride, however, I suspect you can do quite a bit better. My wife had the quesadilla and you can easily do better at home. After looking over the uninspiring menu I ended up with a chicken and spinach salad. Overall, given what else came to the table that night I think it was the best pick. We have been to three places for dinner during our visit to Louisville and both of the others were much better. But, they were a 15 minute drive away and this was close by. My advice is check Yelp for local reviews and go elsewhere.
