Bombay Indian grill is nestled in between Lucky's Market and a modern furniture store on Hurstbourne. Bombay Grill is the BEST indian restaurant in Louisville. The lunch buffet is highly recommended if you are new to indian food or would like to try a variety of dishes. They feature quite a few South Indian dishes on their buffet and have dosa if you'd like as well. Personally their dosa is the best dosa I've had in a long while! I practically eat there several times a month on lunch. The staff is friendly and welcoming as well. They are more than willing to explain the dishes and whether it's a north or South Indian dish.

I am from Texas and was in Louisville for work. I decided to give this place a try. Food was not up to the mark. I found a really poor service for the price paid. I got my menu 15 mins after I got in. This is when there was only two tables occupied and 3 servers on the floor. My curry was microwaved and given to me. Ambience is good. But I am not sure if they can survive based on ambience.

Awesome place! Servers are very helpful in helping you decide what to get (since the menu is all Indian names for the dishes) and the atmosphere is unique with a Taj Mahal mural on one wall. Chicken tikka marsala is a safe bet for first-timers. All food has been great, other than one appetizer which was lentil donuts. You can choose from all different kinds of naan with your entree. Dessert is unique and delicious too, try the Badam Halwa!

The first time I ate here, I came back 2 days later because I HAD to have it again! Which is not like me as far as dinner goes because I usually crave variety in my meals. I can only speak for dinner, as I have never been to the lunch buffet - but dinner was so ah-mazing, lunch buffet has to be the bomb dot com!! I got the Kodi Igguru, which is an Andhra style spicy chicken curry. This dish can be anywhere from level 1-6 spicy. I love spicy, but the waiter told me this dish is pretty dang hot. I ordered a level 4 to be on the safe side. This dish was spicy in a flavorful sense, but gave me enough heat to give me a sense of adventure. The meat/sauce to rice ratio was perfect, and the price was super fair! This is probably the cheapest I have gotten Indian food for dinner, BUT this is the most satisfied/full I have ever been! 2 days later I decided to take it up a notch and get level 5 spicy. Still flavorful, and not yet too hot... Until I started to digest and got a little bit of reflux Will be sticking with level 4 spicy from now on, but oh my goodness was this dish GOOD!! Next time I go, I'm going to order the Chicken Tikka Masala. The waiter told me theirs is great!

There are 3-4 good Indian restaurants in this city, and they have all vied for the crown of the best in the City. I myself have had a different favorite at various times, and have vacillated when asked which was my numero uno choice. Although this may reflect a capricious state of mind and a marked inability to make a decision, I assure you the reasons are purely gastronomic - they have all served delicious meals and they each have their unique specialties. However, flavor, service and consistency are the keys to keeping customers coming back. Bombay Grill trumps the other Indian restaurants on all 3. The proof is in the pudding - if you poll almost every single Indian person in Louisville, they will probably tell you Bombay Grill is the best Indian restaurant in town. That wasn't the case 3 years ago. Not that Bombay Grill was bad 3 years ago; it's just that there were other places that served food that was just as good and sometimes better. I had not been to Bombay Grill in over a year so I wanted to see what the hype was all about (every Indian person I talk to has been raving about it, every Indian event and party is catered by them) . I ordered carryout (Fish Tikka, Chicken Korma, Goat Curry and Gobi Manchurian). All the dishes were scrumptious! The Gobi Manchurian is a fried cauliflower appetizer - you'll find it in the Indo-Chinese part of the menu. When you order it, ask them to make it dry and crispy or they will cook it in a sauce which makes it mushy. It's the best Gobi Manchurian I've had outside India. I can't wait to go back. The verdict is in - this is without a doubt, the best Indian restaurant in town by miles.

Here is the deal with Bombay Grill - some dishes are superb while others are mediocre. Most of the South Indian dishes are spot on, especially the vegetarian selections. Service is not the best, this is my 2nd best choice for Indian in Louisville, KY. Tip: If you can avoid it, skip Friday nights - it is a madhouse to put it lightly.

Guys, this place is the real deal, and I made a yelp account just to say how impressed I was :) Indian food is one of my favorite cuisines, and I've tried almost all of the restaurants in Louisville (Kashmir, Shalimar's, Dakshin, etc.) plus many around the world!...but I can finally say I've found my go-to: Bombay Grill! I ordered the vegetarian appetizer platter, butter chicken, garlic naan, and desserts rasmalai and gajar halwa for carry-out. The person I talked with was so kind and patient and made sure he knew exactly the amount of spice I wanted for my entree. After I got home from picking up my order, I realized he had given me a sample of another dessert, plus a cup of soup...all for free! The portions were also generous, and there were three types of delicious chutneys included to go with my meal, including a wonderful coconut kind. As if it could get any better, everything was seasoned so perfectly!!! The butter chicken was so creamy, savory and a little sweet. And the rasmalai were not at all rubbery and spongey like I've had before, but soft and pillowy. Everything was amazing, though the garlic naan did NOT skimp on the garlic so fair warning. The inside of the restaurant was small but nice and clean, thought I can't attest to table service. You must go here if you like Indian food!!! They have a lunch buffet everyday but Tuesday too, so it's worth checking out.

Ate the lunch buffet. It was some of the best Indian food we have ever had. Large selection and clean restaurant. They have a bar selection too. Didn't indulge at lunch but the food was some of the best Indian I have had in Louisville. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for lunch. Very good.

I just ate here for the fifth time at their delicious buffet. So far, it has been the best Indian buffet I've had in Louisville, but I've only been to Kashmir and Little India. I have been to many buffets across America, and it is my favorite! My husband is rather new to the cuisine; he absolutely loved it and was able to experience a good variety of tastes. Every time I go, it is always busy and chock full of Indian/Pakistani, etc businessmen, groups and families. That is a good sign! Three times, I've eaten by myself and the service has been very friendly and attentive. I've had managers (owner?) come to my table and ask if I had any questions about the food. This is when the place was packed! They also gave me a coupon on past visits. The food is not too terribly spicy, but they have always put a full pitcher of water on my table! Still, the spices are bold and delicious and because the buffet is popular, food is fresh and plentiful. Highly recommended.

I"m so glad I decided to try this place out, it is the best Indian food I've had in Louisville. Everything about my experience at Bombay Grill was very enjoyable. The food tasted very authentic. You could taste all of the seasoning and spices in each dish. We had the assorted vegetarian platter for our appetizer. It was huge (our waiter did warn us) but delicious. Some of the foods on the platter tasted a little like fried cornstarch, but the others more than made up for the lack of flavor. The Somosa was great. Our main dishes were amazing too. The waiter was very helpful in helping us choose what to order. The spice level of our food was exactly as we had ordered it. The service was on point too. The guy walking around refilling the water made sure that you never went thirsty. Everything was great. Will definitely be back.

Average food. Skip the vegetarian sampler, it had zero presentation and was repetitive in selections (as well as pricy) and get the pakora or samosa instead. Butter chicken is a good mild but flavorful option for those that can't handle spice. Chili-garlic naan everyone on Yelp raved about was WEAK and could not taste the garlic whatsoever. Service seemed to be professionally trained but was downright inhospitable and cold. Took FOREVER to get our food and check. One small cup of hot chai with no refills was $3.

I have been traveling 4 hours just to have dinner. I was born in India. When I say this is the BEST Indian food I mean it is the best. The wait staff is attentive, friendly and professional! I will find many reasons to come back here!

Authentic Indian food - no dialed down spice levels here. We were in Kentucky for the weekend, and was craving some Indian food. As usual, yelp came to the rescue and we found this place. We ordered dal tadka, special vegetable curry and Gobi manchurian along with garlic naan and chapati. All the entrees are served with a side of Basmati rice. All the three dishes were awesome. Great, distinct and punched up flavors. Loved all of the dishes, and were glad to have found this gem. Would definitely visit again if we are ever in the Louisville area.

I loved this place. We ordered appetizer platter, dosa and veg biryani. Biryani was amazing. Ambience and service is great. Will surely visit the place again for the biryani.

I came here for the buffet. I realize that a buffet is always a different experience from ordering off a menu, but it's a good way to have variety when dining alone. The buffet was substantial, with a lot of different items, including some I had not tried before. One item I tried for the first time and loved was Manchainu vegetables. The service was fine, but not outstanding. When I return to a buffet for another course, I want my used plates to disappear before my return. This seems like a no-brainer, but doesn't always happen. I hate eating with used plates still on the table. I did appreciate the waiter coming to my table to offer me a fresh, hot dosa. The meat offerings on the buffet were all chicken: tandoori, biryani, methi and tikka masala. They were all good. However, the standout items were the vegetarian dishes and desserts. There were no fewer than six different desserts on the buffet. I tried them all (of course), and each was good. Bombay Grill is definitely worth your time.

Catering review: Food is excellent (the favorite at our Sangeet was the Gobi Manchurian) However they were extremely late to the Sangeet, and they ran out of Gobi Manchurian even though I paid for 225 people and only 200 were at the event. I would still hire them again, but be very clear with what you expect.

Good place to eat. Very clean and the staff was on it. I had the lamb korma at a spice level of 6. Thats the top of the spice level and it was perfect. We also ordered the garlic naan. The naan was thicker than what i am use to. It was still very tasty, but just thicker and softer.

I received a response from Bombay grill with a $20 gift certificate, and they completely redeemed themselves this trip. My family and I stopped in for lunch buffet on Saturday afternoon, and both the service and the food were excellent. Unlike other Indian restaurants in town, they don't shy away from the spice on the buffet line. Thanks for extending the olive branch. I'll be back.

Are you someone who has been craving for good Indian food which is Halal too in louisville, ky ? This is the place you should stop by. Any north / South Indian delicacy you love will be available in the menu. They have a wide spread buffet, best at weekends. I have tried buffets, dine-in and take ours and had great experiences each time. Lots of love, spice and flavor in every dish

Crazy good food, fast and friendly service, relaxing atmosphere. I'm relatively uneducated about Indian food but I've eaten at most local Indian restaurants and my boyfriend and I like Bombay grill most. I've been there several times for lunch and tonight for Sunday dinner and always had great service and wonderful food. I can't even describe the bliss of their vegetable korma and garlic naan. We arrived at 645 pm and were the only customers but when we left it was full, with mostly Indian people.

Bombay Grill is by far the best Indian restaurant we've tried in Louisville (not that the others are not good). The service is always great and I've yet to encounter a dish I didn't enjoy. I love Indian food, but usually stay away from lunch buffets, and gave BG's a try only because I was really hungry and up for shopping at Lucky's. Wow. The food was incredibly fresh, and so much variety -- at least 5-6 vegetarian options, 3 rice dishes, appetizers (best papads ever, btw), 5 different chutneys, 5 chicken dishes and like 5 or 6 different desserts (I know!). There were fresh dosas too (and sambar, of course), brought to your table every 15 minutes or so. Fresh. Dosas. In. A. Lunch. Buffet. The best part -- you get a frequent eater card. You guys rock.

  • Heather H.

They are so nice here! I was told I didn't need to keep saying thank you for things because he was just happy doing his job :). A rarity these days and very welcome to see. Chicken Korma is amazing here too.

  • Marcia G.

Buffet is your best bet here. Evening service is awkward and slow; plus an influx of family bringing in food from outside fast food restaurants at 8pm does not encourage confidence in the dining experience. For the expense, it's just not worth it.

We stumbled upon this place when three other restaurants were out the door with 1 hr waits and I'm so glad we did! I like Indian food but it's tough to find curry that is actually medium. Not only is their curry the perfect heat for me, the lamb was very moist and flavorful. I've always thought lamb is the easiest meat to ruin. The spring rolls were crispy, the Kingfisher beer excellent and the service is excellent. We will absolutely be back for more!

You know an Indian restaurant is good when most of the diners are Indian! I love this place. The food is really great here. What they excel at are Chinese dishes, especially the chili chicken, and vegetarian dishes. The samosa chaat is tasty, as well as their dosas. Chicken 65 is also an amazing appetizer that is a must try. The service is efficient and the owner us especially gregarious. My only complaint is that they give very little rice to accompany their dishes. Overall, I'd highly recommend!

Thanks to Yelp, we found this quaint little Indian restaurant tucked away in a strip shopping center. The ambiance and service were engaging--on a Sat night there were plenty of Indian families of all generations enjoying their dinner and plenty staff made sure that you were tended to for your every need. The food that we all shared was overall tasty--soft idly, spicy sambar, lamb biriyani, yummy chicken tikka masala and non-oily puri (a difficult feat). The things to complain about on the menu that we tried were the vegetable cutlets-unfortunately these tasted bland and frozen. Also my glass of Riesling was not of decent quality. Overall though this was a great Indian meal on our one night passing through Louisville. Don't pass this up if you're looking for good Indian food in town!

I didn't want to stop eating but had to get back to work and Don't want to crash. I visit this place at least two times a week. They change up some of the rice options and a few other things to give you variety. However, I normally stick to a few things. I am usually in and out within 30 mins if I am only.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Louisville .. Best service and great portions. Decent variety of dosas and curries. Buffet was also decent and had many vegetarian options. I would definitely rate them the best for their service and delicious deserts too.

Was referred here...My wife and myself tried the Lunch Buffet, had as many Vegetarian options as they did for meat eaters! We being Vegetarian, finding a lunch buffet that has enough options is hard...this place was great!!! Everything I tried (And that was all of the Veg. options) was great!!! Very friendly and answered all of our questions. Will be going back for sure!!!

There was hair in the food. One of the next table customers' have showed this to the waiter which is a real deal breaker. Besides, this the unused bowls for soups are dirty and have oil marks. you can see them when you look at plates near buffet. Customer service is definitely bad. When the neighboring customers about hair in food, the waiter was not even apologetic, rather he was arguing defensively. Would never go again.

This place rocks! It's the highlight of an all but abandoned shopping center. But this place doesn't fall in line with it's surroundings. It's top notch service and food make this a great place to go. I admit, I've been here one too many times. It's hard to find good Southern Indian food in places other than large cities. I was so stoked to find this place. Try out the dosa or somasa chaat for some bangin' eats. I haven't had the non-veg options but they smell sublime. If they opened up a more classy joint in downtown it'd be one of the top restaurants in Louisville. But what it lacks in atmosphere it more than makes up in service and food.

I had no idea this little restaurant was tucked back in a dark, remote corner of a strip mall on Hurstbourne (thanks Yelp for bringing it to my attention!). The interior is clean, neat, and pleasantly appointed. A wall of mirrors gives the small space a larger feeling, and there are window seats in the front of the restaurant. Best of all, the customers were almost all Indian -- a very good sign! My dining partner and I started with the Vegetable Samosa appetizer. It arrived as two large samosas with two sauces -- a vibrant green sauce that had a powerful cilantro taste, and a brown sauce that was thin and had a sweet note to it. The pastries were stuffed full of peas and potatoes. My daughter ordered a cup of their tomato soup. It was obviously made in-house, and had an unusual flavor to it. It was quite good, and we appreciated the accent of the handful of croutons placed on top. For my entree I got the Baingan Bartha, which was a mixture of baked eggplant, tomatoes, peas, and onions. Delicious! Served with jasmine rice and plain naan, it was perfect. Just the right amount of spice, and a pleasant soft texture. On the side I got an order of Sambar, which was a very spicy, thin soup. It really didn't seem to match the menu description at all, but was good. I even ate the dangerous-looking hot pepper at the bottom of the cup. My daughter went with the Sizzling Prawns. They were served on a bed of onions and peppers on a blazing hot iron plate (like what fajita filling is served on). The prawns were *enormous* and well seasoned. She got a side of chickpeas in sauce that were tender and tasty. The service was not terribly personable, but prompt. The booths were spacious -- almost a little too spacious, if that's possible. When relaxing against the back of the booth, the food on the table was almost beyond arm's reach. If I have anything to criticize, it's that it was *very* cold in the restaurant, or, at least, where I was sitting. The temperature outside was in the 60s, and it felt like the restaurant had the A/C blowing. So, definitely give BG a try! And, maybe bring a jacket.

I LOOOOOOVE the food here, and everyone that works here are so friendly. I tried so many things on the buffet and just was amazed how much I enjoyed eating all of them. I made a promise to myself that I would come here twice a month since it makes me feel good from the inside out.

Casual ambience.. Good food.. Tasty and spicy..!! Take-out is great!! Love the food here..! The only reason I couldn give a 5 star is cuz the service is nt tht great when it is crowded.. Especially on weekends.. They take really long whn it gets busy and d taste kinda falls too.. So the best time to go here is on a weekday or order a take-out.. I like their Biriyani varieties.. I like their veg chettinad n veg biriyani.. 5 star when not crowded.. 4 star otherwise..

Solid Indian food. I went with my friend who is Indian and it was neat to see what she suggested ordering (though I also put in my random two cents that isn't really worth anything except that it seems you can't go wrong here. Appetizer of Onion Baji, which is described like an onion fritter, but is so much more than that. Nice sauce too. Garlic Naan - num, num. We had some exceptional Chicken Tikka Masala and Paneer Tikka. The Paneer dish was a Pandoori, which my friend noted can be a bit dry traditionally, but I thought the cheese sounded nice. The flavor was wonderful, and exactly as she warned, a bit dry. Apparently that is common. So probably won't order thta dish again, but the Tikka Masala was incredible. Spicy with great kick, but never masking the flavors. I also love that there is a 1-6 spice level for the dishes to make it what works for your palate. That is always a nice touch. The place is nothing fancy, and as Imran said, it is definitely in the middle of an almost empty shopping mall. Way to hang in there Bombay Grill. See you again soon!

Went for the lunch buffet, which is usually a bad way to judge a resteraunt, but it was that time of day so.... I was pleasantly surprised by the selection and freshness of the food. The surrounding location wasn't very promising. An empty shopping center- not a good first impression. The resteraunt itself is nothing to look at, but I can see why people still talk about this place- the food. It's definately one of the better Indian resteraunts around!

Horrible place! It is always overcrowded. Seating is impossible. Food taste is fine, but they need to add seating. I tried going there 4 weekends consecutively, but couldn't get in after waiting for more than 1 hour. Ruined my Sunday and my kids' as well. We love Indian food and want to find another option for good Indian food in Louisville.

Bombay Grill is a very relaxed restaurant with really good Indian food. You will love the not very spicy flavor. Being a vegetarian I'm going to comment only on my stuff :) I've been there numerous times but one special occasion was when I took my buddies to celebrate racquetball. I've never had a crispier Indian beer before - The Taj Mahal, Blackfort are just a few. I personally loved the Blackfort. Amazing beer, never thought imported Indian beer would be so tasty. Coming back to the food, their south Indian snacks are very delicious. The Dosa is the best amongst all their snacks with the coconut chutney.. yummy :) My friends wanted to have the Samosa and Chicken Lollipop. They really enjoyed the chicken, I remember asking them how they liked it and they sure were all good words. The entrees that followed were specifically goat and chicken and I'm sure they enjoyed that as well. I ordered the Gobi manchurian, which is an Indian version of the manchurian (chinese speciality) using Cauliflower and gram flour. It was delicious. Listening and chatting about India, Indian movies, Indian actresses (the gorgeous ones) and racquetball of course, we enjoyed our dinner. The dessert was also a very tasty sweet dish made from cottage cheese - Ras malai (Ras meaning Syrup and Malai meaning Cream). It was a wonderful evening. Needless to say, I will keep coming back to this place. My friends stay very close to this place and we often catch up here for dinner or lunch. It is a very good place with some of the most tasty Indian foods in Louisville.

I've definitely had better Chicken Tikka. This one was a bit dry. H ordered the non-vegetarian Thali and then proceeded to request that all the lamb dishes be substituted with vegetarian dishes much to the dismay of the waiter. The Garlic Naan was delicious. Our poor waiter was subjected to a table full of people with the attention spans of meth addled hamsters and he handled himself well. He was patient and thorough. And he got every order right. The bill for six people was about $90. Cheap!

Bollywood Fabulous! I love the flavor of all the food here. I have been multiple times trying all dishes from lamb, chicken, goat, pork, and what ever else they serve up. The Nann has multiple selection and tastes all delicious, and they serve some of the best Mango Lassie. I can't review much else, because I can't particularly spell anything on the menu, but I will always drive out of my way to eat my Indian here. Namasti bliss

My wife and I went here on a recommendation from a friend, it may be my favorite Indian food place now. We had the buffet, which was decent sized and had some great food. I would also like to try ordering from their menu, but what they had on the buffet was well spiced, fresh, and really hit the spot. The service was also very friendly and proficient.

Great place for Indian food in louisville. I loved their Goat Biriyani. Authentic Indian taste. The taste was so good that I was tempted to go next day to check their buffet that was intern great. customer service was good, people were friendly. well deserved 5 stars.

I found this place by accident just because it was near where I was staying on a business trip to Louisvile. It is the perfect quick, casual lunch with a wide variety of both meat and meatless dishes on the buffet. But the best part--idli, sambaar, dosas! You don't find those at most Indian restaurants that serve up only north Indian fare.

I had the lunch buffet, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover my new favorite Indian restaurant in Louisville. My former favorite -- Shalimar -- tends toward heavy, creamy sauces with lots of ghee and/or oil. But the food I tried on their lunch buffet was light and flavorful. I had saag paneer, vegetable biryani, a lentil dish, tandoori chicken, a stewed lamb dish, and several desserts. everything was boldly flavored with fresh spices and ingredients. Delicious. I can't wait to come back and order something with some spicy heat along with some of their several Indian lagers. I don't go to many Indian buffets, so I have no basis for comparison, but their has a great selection of traditional starters and desserts. Everything was delicious. The place is immaculately clean. The staff is attentive, courteous, and helpful. If you are a fan of spice, you might want to order off the menu because the buffet is very mild.

Bombay Grill is AWESOME indian food. I've been to Dakshin and Shalimar and while I enjoy the Indian food offered there, I just don't think you can beat the food served up at Bombay Grill. The service is fast, your glass stays full (helpful when you asked for too much spice!) and they tailor the food to your comfort level on a scale of 1-6. I recommend also getting some Garlic Naan. Chicken Tikka Masala is excellent. They also have a lunch buffet every day, so if you go regularly, you can try different dishes to see what you would like. Excellent place to eat.

what is "chicken 65"? well, it's one of the best appetizers on the menu its like a mongolian chicken but much tastier the spicier the better and great with rice ~ i know it is suppose to be an appetizer we've been coming to this place at least twice a month and it is deserving to give them a four-stars service is prompt, courteous waiters and food is delicious. we always get the curry (lamb or goat) and biriyani (also lamb or goat) because we know its good. we tried a house special called: Bombay Pav Bhaji - its like a version of a chili burger because the grill buns are like those burger buns and you eat it with the thick veggie gravy. i think skip the burger buns and have one of those breads (naan or paratha)

Why is it all "good" questions are answered with a 'don't know'? I had to ask our server 'why chicken 65?' His answer was they didn't know but it is a translation of the name of the dish. Funny name but excellent dish. Bombay Grill is a terrific place for Indian cuisine fans or novices. They offer a wide range of choices and a spicy scale from 1 to 6. We ordered our chicken 65 on a 4.Nice heat. My "adventurous" dining companion(called so because I run with a group not predisposed to treading in unfamiliar territory) ordered her chicken curry a 3 and I got my chicken igguro(sp?) a 4. I'm sure I was an impressive sight as I sweated as though I was running a Louisville 10k in August.I was a happy man. No burning in my mouth just working the fire out through my pores. Her curry was delicious as well without packing the same firepower. Our Indian beers were excellent accompaniments. Too full to try desserts.Too full to finish all our food so I got to have some "65" for a snack the next day. I told Mister about the meal and he is interested in trying Indian. We're definitely hitting a buffet next week.

We tried out Bombay Grill based on the great reviews here on the site. There are a few other Indian-influenced restaurants that we frequent, but had yet to try this establishment. It was your typical fare, but was not really mind blowing, and the service wasn't doing it for us. The only dish of note was the Gobi (Cauliflower) 65, really tasty.

it never fails: whenever I decide I won't eat lunch today, someone says "hey! wanna go to lunch?" and I can't turn down Indian food. today was my second time visiting Bombay. I'm a fan of spicy food and theirs isn't extremely spicy -- enough choices so that one who's not a spicy food fan can still eat. the idea of an Indian buffet is fairly new to me; it works well. for the price, its not a bad spot for lunch.

Very good. I went on the recommendation of a friend who has surveyed a lot of Louisville Indian food, and he was right. The best part is the very diverse menu. Not just your usual curries, but those are there and well prepared. I'm not as into the dosas as some people are, but it is cool that they are even available. Also a good selection of Indian beer. My wife and I LOVE that they will adjust the spice level to your liking. We love heat and often find that places keep it down for the clients that are not accustomed to that. The rest of us miss out. I'll be back for the lunch buffet.

What makes Bombay Grill so special is that they competently prepare dishes of both Northern and Southern Indian cuisine. The only complaint I have had is that the Dosais can be a little heavy on the onions, overpowering the other flavors a bit. I strongly recommend Chicken 65 for an appetizer. The chicken tikka masala is exactly as it should be, and the kadai ginger chicken is also quite good. The dessert portions are small, which is very appropriate given the richness. The servers are knowledgeable and kind. Eating in-house is definitely recommended over take-out.

I have been to several Indian restaurants in Louisville: Sitar, Kashmir, and Shalimar (my favorite). There was a Living Social deal, so we thought we'd try it out. At Shalimar I get paneer masala. Bombay Grill's similar dish was called paneer butter masala. I got the spice factor of 3. Here's my take: Comparing to Shalimar (because it's the gold standard for me), Bombay's masala sauce is less heavy and more spicey. Not necessary "hot" spicey, just a lot of flavors. And a spice factor of 3 (out of 5) is not very hot at all. My dinner partner had a 1 and her's didn't taste too much more mild than mine. We talked to the waiter about the sauce and told him we felt it wasn't as unhealthy for us as what we typically have at Shalimar. He stated that Shalimar uses a lot of cream, and they do not. They use more spices to flavor, so it's not as heavy. It is good either way. The service was not as great, but still acceptable. There are still guys walking around re-filling your water, but not quite as attentive as the folks at Shalimar. We waited probably 10 mins at the table before anyone took our order. It then took another 30ish minutes to get our food. That seems like a long time to me..but whatev. I did notice that in the dining room, which was almost full to capacity, there were many many other Indian people having dinner. So, it must be good if the people that really know the food are eating there. The price for dinner for 2, including an appetizer of vegetable samosas, an order of naan, and 2 entrees came to $28.00. We had a deal for $25.00, so we ended up paying $3 for the meal, plus a $6 tip. Very reasonable I'd say!

OK, so if this was based on just service i would give this a 0 star!! The lady that helped us was rude. We asked her for papa dam which she did not bring out!! Then we asked some other guy who brought it out but they didn't give us any chutney. When we asked for chutney they never brought it! So we just decided to eat the papa dam alone. Then when we ordered food the lady did not understand what we were trying to ask for. It was very frustrating. The food was just ok. I have heard from my family they have had better times.

Great food! Ate here on New Years Eve with another couple who was of Indian descent. They ordered for the table and all the dishes were excellent. Bombay is definitely our favorite Indian food.

It was ok. The flavors were ok. I've definitely had better dosas though, as well as some of the other standards. Haven't found better yet in town though.

A buddy and I went here under his advisement. We were both interested in some Dosas for our late eve fair. They offer a variety of nothern and southern Indian fare. They also offer typical Indian buffets. We got battered, deep fried chilis for appetizers. This was very good. For the main course we got a Maysore Masal Dosa (I highly recommend this) and a potato Dosa - the exact name escapes me now. These were as good as I have ever had. The service was very good, and they had plenty of seats. My Zagat Score Food: 26 Decor: 24 Service: 27 Price: I Price
