We've got some kiddos in the family that have a peanut allergy -- so when they came to town, we decided to check out the bakery with them. Being an allergy free bakery - it was so easy to order and keep the epi-pen packed away.. We started with pizza for the kids and the French press for us grown folk. The pizza was AWESOME. They mill their own flour - the dough was crispy and fluffy at the same time. The flavor was incredible - I wished there had been more of it. (It was a small pizza advertised as 1-2 people). It was maybe 8". The French press left me disappointed. I don't think the girl knew much about the press; the water wasn't very hot and the coffee wasn't very strong. I hated losing $5 on it. The sweets were good, pricey, but good. The kids got cupcakes and we ordered the "mega cookie". The icing was a little overpowering on the mega cookie .. But then again, it's the "mega cookie" I was glad my partner and I shared it. The cookie was gluten free. I appreciate that for folks with a gluten allergy, but I think I prefer my cousin cookies with flour better. Overall, the atmosphere was nice. They had games and a chalkboard wall for the kids. The girls working were very friendly. The furniture was updated and clean. It was a nice place to sit and chill in for a bit - knowing that the kids could eat anything on the menu gave us piece of mind. We'll probably take them back next time they are in town. The coffee, pizza and 3 baked goods set us back about $30.

For a gluten free cafe this is pretty darn good. They are also vegan and allergen free-meaning they do not bake with nuts and they don't use dairy in a lot of their menu items. I have ordered a cake from there-it turned out beautifully. Decently priced too for being gluten free-as most people know who eat this way things tend to get pricey FAST-like the roadrunner! I have eaten lunch here once: we got the soup and salad combo-the soup was black bean and tasty. The salad was just like any other salad. I periodically stop by and get some yummy goodies when I am feeling the need to cheat. Their strawberry cheesecake bars were the best thing I have had from there. Their sugar donuts are pretty yummy for your mouth as well. They do pizza days/nights, which I have not tried yet. I do know Grind Burger Truck (shout out) uses their dough to make their gluten free burger buns! And who doesn't love a Grind burger? The bread seemed a little dry the two times I had it. They do have a punch card system-every time you go in you get a punch-after 6 or so punches you get one of their free oatmeal super cookie thing. The service is always pleasant and friendly.

Annie May's is the go-to place when you visit Louisville! Everything's gluten free, and they offer a wide selection of allergen friendly, vegan, and egg free foods. Annie is the best person to run it, and all the employees are so kind! There's no better place to eat gluten free! My favorites are the pizzas, pick two sandwiches and soup, and the vegan Super Cookie! Best stop! Love this place!

Since my discovered her intolerance to gluten back in 2008, we've hit many (and any) GF bakeries we can find. There's been more chaff than wheat, to pardon the expression. Annie May's is one of the best. Those who are GF & vegan will understand the challenge, but to those who are not, allow me to explain. It's all about chemistry. GF flours do not have the same structure, and do not behave in the same way, as wheat flour so textures vary. GF products have a nasty tendency to be gritty (heavily rice based) or gummy (heavily sorghum or tapioca based). These folks have nailed the flour mix! I consider myself qualified to make this statement because I'm a regular lardo & snack on both sides of the gluten fence. I had the oatmeal pie (oatmeal is GF if contaminants are avoided). As it was vegan as well, I did detect a peculiar, vegetable after taste. Not unpleasant, and I only noticed it once. The other item I had was the double chocolate brownie. It was FANTASTIC. Perfect density & flavor. My wife had the mochachino cupcake. She would've had the red velvet cupcake as well, but our friend's dog stole it. Not so much a statement on the cupcake, but rather why I have cats.:) Glutards & carniphobes of Louisville: REJOICE! You can have quality baked goods again!

I went to Annie May's to get a few desserts for my wife's birthday party - my grown daughter has gluten issues and suggested i go here. I got there just a few minutes before it closed, but they still had a few things left in the case, so i chose 4 different items. I'll have to say, these were some of the best desserts i have ever tasted - gluten-free or not. So....the Chocolate Boulder, a supremely dense ball of smooth-ish chocolatey goodness, as they were out of the Carrot-Cake Boulder, my daughter's favorite. The Elvis Pie, a mix of maybe peanut butter, banana, graham-cracker, with a smooth chocolate icing. (ingredients are ALL guesses on my part - i'm referring mostly to flavors here. please check their website for actual ingredients). Then a SuperCookie (i think). OMG, it's like two giant chocolate-chunk cookies side-by-side with some yummy creamy stuff in the middle. Super is a good name for it. And lastly a cupcake (Margarita?) with a huge swirly mountain of fluffy icing on top. And I mean huge. And fluffy. And yummy. 4 of us shared these treats, passing them back and forth, and the common phrase was "Nope, this is the best one." What a special treat it was to have these wonderful bakery items, and to be able to choose freely without worrying about the ingredients for someone with gluten tolerance problems was worth every bit of the cost. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere inside the shop appeared very clean and relaxed.

Since we have 2 kids with severe nut and egg allergies, we never get to visit a bakery, much less leave with food. This was a great find on a recent trip to Louisville and we left with an assortment of tasty things to try. The chocolate chip cookie sandwiches, oatmeal sandwich and chocolate cupcake were all awesome. Thanks for filling that gap for families like ours!

Second time of sitting down in this cafe. They have made the interior even more comfortable and pleasant except the volume and choice of music. I think I could have said something but the shop was busy. Next time I will take my treats to one of the close-by parks. If you have opportunity, eat their pumpkin donuts over their regular donuts. The pumpkin donuts are more flavorful and moist. The first few bites of the supercookie are divine but then it gets too sweet. I think I kept eating it to find the flavors of the first few bites. So split it with four friends instead! The unique flavors of their cakes and cupcakes shine through to the end of the treat. They offer quite a variety of baked goods, clearly-marked tags, and expert advice. Prices are comparable to upscale bakeries in the Louisville area.

Delicious goodies for anyone who has a gluten allergy. French press coffee available to order. The bakery selection was not that great on the Saturday we went of the holiday weekend. I bet it's a great place to stop in during the week.

I ate at Annie May's last week. The pizza was great, although very expensive - $12 for 2 smallisth pieces of pizza and a drink. The sour dough bread I bought was stale and tasteless - needed salt badly. The cookies and cupcakes were divine...the strawberry frosting on the strawberry cupcake was to die for. I think sweets are definitely their strong point. Customer service was a little off. The girl behind the counter wasn't exactly unfriendly, she just wasn't friendly. She wasn't forthcoming about all their products - which she should have been since I was a new customer and they are newly opened. I will give them another try - am hoping for friendlier, more helpful service and cheaper prices on the lunch items.

Absolutely wonderful. I went in after searching for "vegan bakery" on yelp. Thank goodness there was a nice lunch option (pizza, salad and a drink) for me since I didn't realize I was running out of time before work! On my drive to work I grabbed a few bites of the pastries I bought. The pumpkin cookie is so soft and tasty! The oatmeal creme pie is fng perfect in every way. Thanks for what you do, everyone at Amy May's!

Lots of offerings and in contrast to a regular cupcakery that just does a small assortment of gluten-free items, you can come here knowing that your gluten-free (and/or vegan) needs will be met. Everything from cupcakes to cheesecakes to brownies; it's the sort of place to avoid if you're avoiding sugar or have cut it out completely because their melange of offerings will leave you increasingly tempted to take home as much as you can. Enough space for seating, as well, as you can come and enjoy your treats with someone else. Surpassed my expectations and will be back.

For someone who has gluten and dairy allergies this place is a dream come true! I just wish they had a big old sign in front of the bakegoods that said "everything is gluten free". I had to have heard 7 people, my fiance included, ask what was gluten free in 10 minutes. The bakegoods themselves were good but had that classic American too-sweetness that is hard for me to stomach sometimes. I say if you are straying from the naughty ingredients hold back on the sugar a little too! Other than that it was a superb experience with a very friendly staff, good atmosphere and offers us allergy-ridden a real treat!

LOVE this place! I live across the river but have made multiple special trips just to snag a gluten free delight here. While gluten free options are becoming more plentiful, Annie has, by far, some of the most delicious and creative items. It is great that this bakery specifically targets treats that would not otherwise be an option for gluten free, vegan, and food allergic customers such as cakes, cookies, doughnuts, French toast, breakfast sandwiches and all kinds of bread or pastry items. They are accommodating and very timely with special orders for special occasions or just home use. The staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgable which is a nice break from other places where one might run into impatience and guesswork when it comes to ingredients. The only, and I do mean the ONLY reason this does not have five stars is that some items are only available on certain days and sometimes sell out quickly. This is mostly due to the shorter shelf life of these super fresh treats and because the customer base is still growing. It would be nice to grab a mid week doughnut pick-me-up but it's not a deal breaker and I haven't cried over it yet so join me in a gluten free, vegan, or allergen free snack at Annie Mays!

Num! My first experience with Annie May's was with their Red Velvet Cake Boulder and it was amazing (see "one last bite" picture that commemorated the experience). I've since tried samplings of Annie's other goods but the red velvet is a favorite. I am not allergic to, well, anything and was hesitant to try this bakery known for specializing in allergy-free goods (bring on the gluten! peanuts! whatever!) because I assumed I'd notice the difference. I didn't, neither did the kid who prefers their sugar coma-inducing dark chocolate on chocolate cupcakes. I hit up Annie's now every time I have an appointment at Hair Strobel next door. The interior of the cafe is adorable with the 50's vibe pink, black and white theme although generally I'm running late and tend toward a quick take-out order from the counter. They've got merchandise for sale, a kid's corner, board games and a view of Frankfort to keep things interesting. Like Jill said, they are locally owned and produce their goods at the beginning of the day and try not to have too many extras on hand as budgets, I'm sure, need to be watched carefully in a non-chain business. If you go close to closing time you may not get a doughnut or cookie but that's a good thing. It means we're keeping local business and flavor alive via our early bird patrons. When in doubt try the red velvet and hit them up earlier in the day next time ;)

Tons of options. Gf cookie dough is good. The oatmeal cookie is one of my favorites, though the icing is a little too sweet. The biscuits and gravy on the weekend is great! They accept pre-orders or you can walk in and buy anything they have available in their front case. Good options for those with allergies.

This bakery is wonderful!!! All items are gluten free and they have lots of vegan options!!!! I got two chocolate cupcakes and one frosted sugar cookie, it was all I could do to keep myself from eating them all at one time. This will be a bakery I visit every time I am in louisville!!!

The desserts are great. They have a lot of variety and the service was wonderful. The coffee was fantastic. For someone like my wife who has sever nut allergies it is a rare treat to be able to have a slice of cheesecake, ice cream and a cup of coffee. First time we visited it was for her birthday and now that we know it is great it won't be the last visit.

Owner Annie McGill of Annie May's Sweet Cafe makes awesome homemade gluten-free baked goods, cakes, cookies, breads, and pastries. Her desserts taste like nothing has been sacrificed. She does specialty cakes for birthdays and weddings, and her artistic ability on these cakes is fantastic. Try the key lime pie and carrot cake! They are so flavorful and delicious!

So glad Annie May's exists! Louisville is so lucky! It was wonderful to have a delicious and safe breakfast - I had an egg sandwich with bacon & vegan cheese - and I only wish they were open on Sundays so that I could've visited again before leaving town. Also had a maple bacon doughnut just to make sure I was plenty full before heading to the Derby, and I took home a brownie and strawberry cupcake that were both scrumptious, even the next day. Being gluten and lactose free can make it hard to deal with eating when traveling but no worries here - there were also plenty of vegan treats for me to choose from to give to my Airbnb host as a thank you gift.

Delicious and soft chocolate chip cookie Cinnamon roll was a good replacement, but definitely felt like a replacement for Gluten options.

This place specializes in allergen-free baked goods. They have a book on the counter that lists ingredients for everything they make, and they label items inthe display case for the most common allergens ("wheat-free", "dairy-free", etc). I was bit disappointed in the available selection when I stopped in, but they may have just been running low (I visited about 30 minutes before close).
