I liked sushi blue but I didn't think it was the best sushi I've had in Lexington. My dinner companion and I shared the $46 sushi combo for 2 people. I would have appreciated salad and soup for 2 people as well, but theirs only comes with an order of 1 of each. For $46 an added soup and salad wouldn't cost them much, and the other places do it. But otherwise, the sushi was fresh. We ordered the jalapeños appetizer as well. It was very tasty but not spicy at all. I would come back, but try to make it in time for the lunch specials instead of the regular menu.

Back for round 2 and another solid win. Excellent fish, great presentation, and an atmosphere that pulls it all together. Chef K creates a perfect sushi experience. Sari and I ordered Maguro, Sake, Shiro Maguro, Hamachi, Unagi, Ikura, Tai, Tako, Hotate, Masago, and Wasabi Tobiko. Every piece of fish and bit of roe was perfect. Chef K gave us a taste of baby octopus which we hadn't had before. (We promptly ordered the baby octopus salad; try it if you like Tako. It's marinated; served cold and it's just slightly sweet with a hint of soy sauce and sesame.) Owners Chef K and Sarah were hospitable and accommodating and we will be regulars here.

The sashimi rice bowl ($12.95) provides better value than the sashimi lunch ($11.95), because the former has a lot of vegetables and a very generous portion of sashimi. However, both are good choices. With only two servers and about 9 tables during lunch time, service is a bit slow: it took at least 5 minutes for the server to take the drink order and another 10 minutes to place the lunch order. Refills did not come until we asked and there was a small discrepancy in the drink order. But I am not deducting a star for service.

The service was very nice, but the sushi was just okay - nothing special. What was really annoying was to get home and find that my order wasn't correct - one of the rolls I ordered was missing and I received a different roll in it's place. It really can't be this hard to get a simple order right. I doubt I would return.

Great new sushi restaurant! Large, beautiful cuts of fish, and gorgeous plating. Reasonably priced, and pleasant atmosphere. Nice staff and good service. Desserts are fab too, worth making room.

Freshest, best sushi in town. Also ate the Spicy Bugoki Ramen which was amazing. Atmosphere and presentation was great. My only wish was that it had a better location. No ones going to see it here, so pass on the word that it's a must-eat-place to go to.

Sushi Blue is an awesome restaurant. I'm not usually very restaurant loyal, but with them I am because their food is amazing, and they're local! Their location is super easily seen unless you're looking for them. Sometimes they give you free dessert! Definitely pay them a visit for dinner or lunch sometime!!! Ps. Their green tea ice cream is so good. And decently cheap.

Amazing!! I usually have to wait to go home to Florida for a sushi roll of this quality fish and ambiance! The chef even have us extra stuff to give us a taste of the hospitality! Definitely recommend! We will be back!!

The sushi quality was very fresh and the presentation was impressive. I only gave 4 stars due to the the fact I like when the ginger is not pink making it more original and fresh. The survive was very friendly and prompt. I will be back

Really cool atmosphere and very friendly staff. We entered at the end of the lunch hours but they were very welcoming unlike some places. The food was amazing and came presented really well, easily my favorite sushi in town. I had the standard spicy tuna roll which was very fresh along with a sashimi rice bowl - way too much food! Everything was incredible. Highly recommended.

I was quite impressed with Sushi Blue. It's only been open a few days and word hasn't gotten out yet - it was very quiet for a Thursday dinnertime but I expect that to change in the coming weeks. We had a few different things and really enjoyed it all. They have a wide array of rolls, which I think satisfies a lot of people with the many many combinations and fun names. We tried an old standby, a Rainbow Roll. It was good. The nigiri we ordered was fantastic. They charge by the piece, and it's not cheap, but was worth the price. The salmon slices were VERY big, and extremely buttery. Just wonderful. The mackerel is a favorite of mine, but many folks don't like it because it's "too fishy". The slices were nice sized and were mild. The server (owner?) informed us that the chef cures it in-house! That's pretty cool. Mackerel must be cured in order to be served raw and not many sushi houses would do it themselves. The real star of our meal was the Sashimi Rice Bowl. Barely-warm sticky rice on the bottom, lots of veg (fresh spring greens, cucumbers, sprouts, shredded radish) seaweed, roe, and then quite a bit more fish chunks (not sashimi as in slices but sashimi as in bites) than I was expecting, of several varieties, and dressed in a WONDERFUL sesame oil sauce. This came with a side of nice spicy bean paste for mixing in. I'd highly recommend this dish! It also came with the obligatory bowl of miso and of orange/ginger dressed iceberg lettuce (with a decent amount of carrot too). I personally would trade the little side salad for another couple of bites worth of the sashimi rice bowl. The decor is quite nice. Not overbearing. Almost soothing. They seem to have their act together pretty well for having just opened, the service was prompt, attentive, friendly, and efficient. The disposable bamboo chopsticks were high-quality, straight (no warping!) and slightly oval for a better grip. The space feels totally renovated and the washroom was pristine. My only possible complaint was that I could slightly smell the washroom when we walked in. Not like bodily wastes but like the industrial air freshener or something. Maybe I'm just really sensitive to that. I will definitely return, not just because it's close.

The best sushi in Lexington Kentucky. If you have not been here you NEED to visit! The hours are great they stay open to 11:00 most nights and the place has such a fun vibe to it! They really take pride in presentation of their restaurant, food, drinks, everything! It is very artistic, VERY clean I mean the kitchen is spotless, it is open so you know everything going on and just a great overall experience! They know what they are doing for sure, if you are new to sushi they can help you decide on what you would like:) the staff are AMAZING and they remember you and always ask how you are doing! I love it here!! You will not leave without a full belly and a smile on your face! :)

This sushi restaurant is tucked away in a office/strip mall on Pasadena that is an awesome find. I thought the "Blue" in the the name was a play on the "blue nation" basketball craze in this area which made me hesitate. I am glad I didn't. Tiger's Eyes appetizer got me started into a sushi binge and I'll be going back for another fix soon. I did ask the very pleasant owners about the name and they told me to look around the restaurant which was tastefully decorated with blue accents. I left feeling a little ignorant but happily satisfied from the fresh and tasteful meal.

This place was a total disaster. We got there and told them this was our first there and had heard great things. We placed out order at 7:10 and I order the chicken tempera and the spicy tuna roll sushi. My dinner companion order the sushi platter. Our soup and salad came out immediately. About 5 minutes later i noticed the sushi chef had placed two platters on the counter that looked like out dishes. Forty minutes later the waitress came out and said that the kitchen was very busy and our dinner would be out shorty (the restaurant was not even half full). I asked her if those two platter were our and she said yes. She explained that the manager wants all the food to come out at the same time. I explained after waiting 40 minutes we both were very hungry and that we want new plates prepared. She agreed and a few minutes later our plates arrived I waited another 15 minutes for my chicken tempera. The manager came and explained her philosophy on how she felt all food should come out at once not separately. I explained to her I was hungry. There way too many other sushi places in Lexington to go to. Won't be going back here

After reading several stellar reviews for Sushi Blue, my daughter and I decided to visit. The first thing we noticed - a small, quiet, tastefully-decorated space where we were greeted and seated promptly. We were presented with an extensive menu and full cocktail/sake list, but we were in a sushi mood, so we went straight for the traditional paper "checkbox" menu. We made selections of traditional and hand-rolled items and sent them on their way via our very polite and attentive server. The plate that returned was nothing short of spectacular. While all of our selections were beautifully plated, the volcano roll was particularly well presented, complete with a flame in the center of the large, beautiful rolls. It was spicy, as indicated on the menu, but not too spicy. The dragon roll curled dramatically across the plate with a large, decorative blade of "grass" in the middle. The others were equally well presented. But I'm guessing you're more interested in the quality of the food itself. Simply delicious - fresh seafood, cooked or uncooked to perfection. The portions were generous, and the sauces used were flavorful. My daughter found herself removing the last of the sauce from the dragon roll with a finger (no, she's not a toddler). The whole experience was relaxing and delicious! At the table behind us, I heard the patrons say with surprise, "Oh, we've been here for three hours!" Delicious food, friendly and attentive staff (without being disruptive), and a soothing atmosphere make for a wonderful combination to eat, linger, talk and enjoy some of Lexington's best sushi!

We noticed this restaurant a few days ago and decided to give it a try. It is tastefully decorated, clean, and date worthy. Our meal averaged $25 per person. I shared some appetizers as a meal with someone else because I can't eat seafood. There were several good meal choices for those who aren't into sushi. We had a vegetable tempura, chicken tempura, chicken yakitori, and gyoza. It was all good, though I did wish that the tempura pieces were a more manageable size when using chopsticks. The fried coating on the meat and vegetables, and the tempura sauce, were really good. We cleaned our plates, and even had a little of the "styrofoam" noodles. The chicken yakitori was very tender, and had a good flavor. Our favorite dish was the gyoza, and I wish we'd had more of those. The lady who waited on us was very nice, and the order came out within a reasonable time frame. I did notice a very slight scent of what I think is a sour mop, and that's something they should fix.

My husband is not a fan of sushi whatsoever. It's the texture. When I found this place had a few deep fried rolls to shut him up; off we went. So far I have tried almost every roll they have and to date my favorite is the Pasadena Roll. Seaweed salad is good, not too keen on the presentation in a martini glass, but hey, it works. Prices are fair. They do not scrimp. The place is clean and relaxing.

When I first reviewed Sushi Blue, I broke one of my own rules. I never give 5 stars to a Restaurant I've only been to once. Now that I've had a chance to visit a few times, I can honestly say they consistently have some of the best sushi I've ever had; anywhere. The staff has been great every time I've been, both dining in and taking out. I sat at the sushi bar once and the chef was great to talk to. He even gave me a complimentary hand roll! I wouldn't ever expect that again, but it was a nice (and delicious) gesture. My only previous complaint was a smell that a few reviewers also noticed. I haven't noticed it lately, so I'm happy to see they are listening to us! Go read my previous review for all the details, but this is a place you shouldn't pass up.

Totally a fan. I swung by here for a sushi bar treat to myself on a Friday after work - this place is easy to find off Nicholasville and not too far out of my way to dine in on a whim. I am an over-the-top enthusiast about sushi and since moving to Lexington have been ever faithful to Sugano , but given how good the reviews have been for this place, I thought I'd give it a try to appease the landlocked resident spontaneous sushi craving that hits every once in a while. I really like the experience of dining here and the sushi is solid for being in a part of the country where good sushi is hard to find. The sushi chef is Korean and so is the waitress-in-charge. I went into the restaurant during prime dinner time and saw that the place was probably half-full. Since I'm a sometimes-socially-callous person, I went ahead and sat myself at the sushi bar. The sushi chef greeted me, and the waitress was quite undeterred. That made me smile - you don't often find gregarious personalities at restaurants during dinner time. I had a really satisfying green tea, and ordered a seaweed salad, surf clam sashimi, and an Alaska roll (salmon, cucumber, avocado). The seaweed salad was generous for the price. It came in a martini glass with abundant shredded daikon. I really liked it, and it's probably the only place I've gotten a seaweed salad in Lexington where I would be okay sharing it with someone (Happily eating seaweed is just wired in my genetics, forgive me). The surf clam was really fresh for being served in Kentucky. I don't know where they got it from or how quickly it was shipped, but I was really happy with it. The salmon in the Alaska roll was pleasing also. I tread cautiously when trying new sushi joints. I'm really happy with my first meal here, and will definitely be coming back soon to try more without reserve. The prices were really fair, which makes this a place that's easy to frequent. The presentation was all gorgeous, and everything was good. It didn't blow my mind, but with the prices they have and the great ambience they provide, I think Sushi Blue deserves four stars. Bottom line: Go. Enjoy.
