Food is good, but the aftertaste was just awful! Be very careful. I was charged $250 for the table of 10 next to us. The only reason I even knew about it was because I have text alerts set up with my bank. No one told me that they accidentally swiped my card. The management was amazingly ineffective... Basically offering a shrug of his shoulders. Hmmm. Thanks so much. A receipt with the amount voided would have been preferable. Left such a sour taste. I won't return. Plenty of other restaurants in town! That is NOT GOOD SERVICE!!

Wonderful food and atmosphere! Everything I tasted was wonderful. It's inside Dudley square so if you go to the right you go to the restaurant if you go left you can sit at the bar. The patio is also really nice - recommended on nice days! Their specialty cocktails were really tasty and they have a menu just large enough for there to be something for everyone.

potentially the poorest service in lexington. I have eaten here countless times, as a student at UK I know all of the best places to eat as well as the worst and this is the worst. they are rude. we had two people come up to us and pretend to be the manager, and when we called them out on it they told us they had LIED and that the real manager quit the previous week. I am a hospitality major, my mother worked in this business for years...you never lie to your customer.

Perhaps the worst dining experience I have ever had. We arrived at 5:20 pm for a nice leisurely dining experience before an orchestra concert. At 6:45 pm, we still had not received our entree. Our waitress never came over to inquire how the drinks or appetizer were. At 6:45, we asked to see the manager. A woman came over who identified herself as the owner and said "well here is your food now. I will come back to see how you are doing." She never came back. We tried to scarf down lukewarm food in 10 min. One of our dining companions had to order dessert after her first bite of entree. It was unacceptable. After we finished dining at a break neck speed in order to make the concert, I had to hunt down the owner again. When I told her how disappointed I had been with our experience she replied that "I said I sorry what more do you want?" I explained that I thought it was unreasonable for us to wait 90 minutes for entrees and watch three other tables turn over. I thought she should comp part of our meal. She said no. When I told her I was surprised that she wasn't interested in making this situation better. Her response was she would take $6 off our $200 bill. I was dumbfounded. She then called her husband/owner/chef over, who wouldn't even look at me to discuss and told his wife "we won't comp anything." He didn't even know the situation! As I tried to explain, he said "it's a game night. We're busy." Yes, I know. This is why I made a reservation 2 hours before I had to be somewhere else. So we paid our bill. At which time, Aimee, the owner came back over and told us that she wasn't interested in having "our type" in the restaurant. One of my companions asked what that meant. She replied, "you aren't welcome here again." Of all the tables in the restaurant, we were the only ones in the restaurant with a minority in our party. Another person in our party had an Eastern Kentucky accent. Either the owners of this restaurant are discriminatory or they have horrible customer service. Either way, we will never be back.

How have I never been here until now? This place is incredible! Starting with the decor...stunning! The exposed brick everywhere and the bar is so perfect! It was raining the night that we went so we did not get to sit on the patio (but I will be back to do that soon!). We had a variety of dishes. Starting with the lobster croquettes and bruschetta (both delicious). For entrees we had the duck, the filet, the shrimp/pasta dish, the chicken and the salmon (and I sampled all). Seriously one of the best filet's I've had in Lexington...if not THE best! Service we on point (until it was time for our check...but we were chatting so that could have been taken as we wanted to sit and stay longer). Go! You will not be disappointed if you are looking for an upscale experience.

Took more than 45 minutes to get threw salads and a pasta for lunch when the restaurant is not even full. The dressing of the Mediterranean salad is WAY too salty, even before adding the marinated olives. Not worth the price.

Delicious! I have eaten at this place several times. Overall, the quality is quite good and consistent. On this last visit, I began with lobster risotto "balls". They were delicious but a bit heavy, being fried as well, and very filling. I could only eat a small portion of the scallop entree that I ordered. But, it was spectacular - really lovely. I wish I would have skipped the starter. And, I could not resist ordering a chocolate custard to go. This was also creamy and rich. I really enjoyed it - much later. The food is good; the service is polite and helpful. The ambiance and decor are a touch odd. And, the chairs are very uncomfortable. It is a bit at odds with the quality of the food. You want to stay, savor and enjoy the dining experience; the food warrants it.

I first visited Sabio for dinner, and while the entree was very good, the dessert was to die for. All the ice creams are made in house, and they are incredible. My favorite two-scoop combo is blackberry sage and lavender honey. But I confess, I really love going to Sabio for lunch or brunch. There is a daily (gluten-free) quiche special, and the new warm weather menu has just come out. Treat yourself to a Sabio burger. It comes with caramelized onions and house made pimiento cheese, and the quality of the beef is out of this world. They also do a take on the classic BLT, but it's a fried green tomato sandwich with lettuce and applewood smoked bacon. They also serve Caffe Marco coffee, which is locally roasted, rich, and delicious. Service is warm and friendly, ambience is charming. Great addition to downtown dining.
(5)Becky N.
Sabio never disappoints. I find fresh-tasting, delicious food, beautifully presented, in a upscale, urban, contemporary setting. You have a choice of the lovely dining room with black tablecloths and napkins or the funky and fun Detention Room which serves as their bar with table seating. The service is very accommodating. The coffee is great and the quiche is the best in the Lexington! All this and convenient, free parking--a rarity in the downtown area.

Alright sports fans. This place is legit. Found this place on Yelp by searching three dollar signs in Lexington and sorted by ranking. I was a bit hesitant because this place didn't have a ton of reviews. Blown away by the food. Drinks - if you are the bourbon trail and you order wine you are a moron. I ordered the Syrah so don't judge me but I started off with a glass of Buffalo Trace. The pours here are hearty and full. Not skimpy pours at all Appetizers - these are some of the best apps I have ever ordered at a restaurant. Calamari - lighted breaded with a little bit of pepper in the batter. Awesome. Escargot was on special and was cooked perfectly. Not overly garlic and served in an awesome garlic infused cream based broth. Wok seared green beans were single handily the best green beans I have ever had Mains - we skipped salads. I got the scallops. Awesome. That's all I can. My colleagues got the duck and lamb and said those were also incredible. You cannot go wrong with any of those three and were recommended as the favorites. Desert - yep... went full blown fat boy. Deal with it. Homemade Ice was incredible which was cookies and cream. Anyone with a three star or under needs to go back and give this place. I'm talking to you Chuck T.

This was my first visit here and at first I was very pleased. Me and my guest were both talking about coming back for brunch but we have decided never to return. The service wasn't bad but the meal was only so so for the price we paid. We got the salmon and it came with slaw and potato salad. It was ok, I wasn't very impressed. After the meal however we did have a coupon that we were told they wouldn't accept even though the coupon was brand new. We were told that the chef stopped accepting them just that week. I seriously doubt that. Anyway for the price and the not so tasty food I wouldn't waste the time or money going to eat here. There are a lot of other nice places to eat instead.

The building (an old school house) is cool and funky inside. The restaurant occupies several rooms but you'll walk past other business as well. Very interesting decor. We were seated in the bar so the bartender was also our server. He told us about the special entree for the evening but didn't say anything about the soup of the day or special appetizers. We just assumed there were not any. However, we heard another server describe them to another table. Really? They sounded great but the bartender didn't mention it. We started the Wok Charred Grean Beans. Delicious. They were cooked and seasoned perfectly. It is a large serving so you could easily eat this and a salad for dinner. I had the Applewood Smoked Duck Breast over the Root Vegetable Puree. The puree didn't taste much like a root vegetable. It was the color of sweet potato but tasted bland like a normal potato. The duck itself was nice although I think the stuffed apples inside could have been cooked a few more minutes. My wife had the Pork Osso Buco (pork shanks). They were tender and the meat fell off the bone, but it needed seasoning. The meat had almost no taste to it. And her entree was almost cold. We had several glasses of wine and were pleased with them (if you get past the per glass price of $12 for a zin). I know restaurants make their money on drinks, but really? That hurts. We didn't have any dessert as we had left over pie at home. We'll certainly go back and perhaps just have several appetizers to share instead of an entree.

Not 5 stars because they continue to sell restaurant.com gift certificates that they do not honor. That's sloppy at best, fraudulent at worst. The actual atmosphere was great -- a playlist of about every genre (but not too loud). 3 big TVs in the bar area tuned to sports. How many places get "100" rating from the county boards of health? These guys do -- and from what we could tell, it's earned! Eclectic brunch menu -- the french toast was about the best we've ever had. So, clean up that customer service issue and 5 stars it will be!
(4)Josh M.
I have stop off her for drinks before Message Center and hard to mess up what I drink ( Beer or Bourbon ) but the other day my Wednesday dinner boys decided on this joint. I post a pics of the salad I had, yes a salad pics! Was a great Salad and find pics for what it was. The whole meal was nice and something we would come back for again. Oh and check out the art on the walls, some good stuff.

What happened, guys? We visited your place about 8 or 9 months after you opened. Wow. What a sad decline. I have some questions for you guys (hope you're reading, Sabio!): (1) Why in the world would you hand out dirty, disgusting paper menus? This tells me that you're not changing your menu at all. No seasonal changes? Yowza. If you're going to have a standing, unchanging menu, then at least consider laminating it. (2) Super-boring food. The veggies were so limp and tasteless. I had lamb chops, which were so-so. Everything else that came with it was pretty much what I could have done myself at home. Not great. It's squash season, and yet you are drowning the "grilled" squash under some kind of watery liquid. Ick. (3) The bread basket came and had only two small slices of bread. Um. Okay. Wow. Why so much bread? At 7:00 pm on Saturday night, the place was about 1/3 full, so we aren't alone in our evaluation. This place has a terrific atmosphere. You can do better. Step it up a bit, guys. Change the menu seasonally and print new menus, at the very least. After my husband and I dropped a bundle on a pretty bland dinner, we went to Country Boy. We both wished that we had just gone there and had the food truck stuff for dinner!

Our first visit to this hidden gem. It is located where the old Dudleys restaurant was. The turkey/Brie sandwich was excellent. Other dining guests tried the crab cake sandwich. All agreed it was one to enjoy again. The dining area was not crowded at lunch time so I hope the restaurant will be able to stick around!
(4)Alex F.
Service was slow and the filet was a bit bland, but the homemade bread, tomato soup, and shrimp with potato gnocchi more than made up for those minor shortcomings. The real ding was reserving a table and being sat in the bar area. It was noisy and the bar patrons crowded our table a bit to much. We will certainly try it again and I hope the service and seating improves. They have the potential to get 5 stars easily.
(3)Tom E.
I have been to Sabio's with my GF 4 times over the past 2 months. Really enjoyed myself each and every time. Very interesting flavors. I have had 3 different preparations of Grouper ( Specials) during those dinners. all were prepared wonderfully. But I and my GF really enjoy the lavender Creme Brûlée. I highly recommend. Very attentive service. Only real issue I had was the restaurant is kept too cold. I had a suit coat on and I was still cold there.
(4)Bad B.
We had chicken, shrimp, scallops, duck and white fish with some appertizers and salads. Everything was a la cart. Duck was outstanding. Rest of the dishes were just ok. Way over-priced for the quality of the food! Staff was nice.
(3)Diane M.
One of my favorite restaurants in Lexington. You have to have the green beans -- they are the best ever! Wok-fried, with cashews! Can't go wrong. Service is always impeccable. I have had quite a bit of fresh fish here (I go regularly) and it's always good, with amazing sauces and seasoning. It's in an old building with gorgeous hardwood floors. Only challenge is that it is pricey, but at least it's worth it. :) The patio is fabulous too, enclosed by a brick wall.

We were in Lexington visiting from DC for the derby. Very very good meal, great staff!! We will be back!!

I don't think I've given a real restaurant 5 stars before. I grew up in Lexington and have eaten at every conceivable spot here, and this is about as good as it gets. Much of my experience was made even better by contrasting it to my very mediocre experience the weekend before at Coles, just down the street. My Sabio experience made me realize how fine dining in Lexington can and should be done. I was a part of a group of 14 - yup 14 entire human people - 12 of whom were visiting from out of town. My wife recommended this place after two good experiences here already, but this was my first time here. We were the only locals in the group. The rest were visiting from up north. Our group was seated promptly, and were given water as our drink orders were being placed. Their beer menu was limited, but did include West Sixth IPA and a couple Alltech beers, to satisfy my local penchant. The wine drinkers at the table seemed satisfied with the list, and a couple bottles were ordered. My wife got a vodka and club soda cocktail. Everyone liked their drinks, and they were brought out very quickly and efficiently. Directly after drinks, our orders were taken. We all shared some appetizers, and my wife got a beet salad with goat cheese. The green bean with elephant garlic appetizer was nothing short of phenomenal, and the salad was very nicely flavored. The whole table was raving about the appetizers. Our waiter was a young dude who at first worried me a bit because he looked like he may have been in his first week (of working, not life - he wasn't that young) but let me tell you this guy nailed how to be a waiter. My glass was filled with water every time it was getting close to being empty, I had a beer refill when I was running low, and all this happened without us really noticing he was there. My wife commented that you know you're getting good service when all you're doing is not noticing the service, but concentrating on conversation and food. That's exactly what we got here. Our food came out quickly - within 25 minutes, and all of it arrived at the table (keep in mind there were 14 of us) within a minute. Nobody was left waiting to start because someone else hadn't received their entree. I had the salmon which was prepared beautifully, crusted every-so-slightly with enough moisture to make it tender but not too much juice to give a slimy texture. Truly medium. Perfect, The garnish was a sweet type of pico, almost a relish, and the asparagus was probably the most perfectly prepared asparagus that I've ever had. The presentation was very tastefully done and the entire ensemble was nothing short of perfect. My wife got a whole wheat pasta vegetarian dish which was tossed in a lemon butter sauce. It was outstanding as well. And, they actually had a vegetarian option on the menu - it wasn't some sort of speak easy style hidden menu item. She loved it. The checks were brought out after some got after dinner drinks, and we left one hour and forty-five minutes after we sat down. Perfectly timed, and expertly served. I am not hard to please, and let's face it, I'm a guy so I'll be content with a couple fazolis breadsticks and a diet coke. I also do appreciate the finer things from a dining experience, and rarely am I impressed either by service or cuisine. This place managed to both make me want to go back, and to make me want to write a positive review about it. That's not something that I can say about many Lexington establishments. I highly recommend Sabio, and I can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu.
(5)Jeff R.
I have to update this review from a second visit. Sabio now looks like it's coasting. Menus are beat up and tattered (PRINT A NEW MENU EACH DAY). This is how a guest is greeted? A beat up and dirty menu? This time, the overall dish was fairly mediocre. Duck and bland vegetables. Waiter didn't know what challah - part of the fois gras appetizer - was. Beer list is pathetic. Wine by the glass is ok, but limited. $170 with drinks and a desert. Too expensive and not impressive enough for a place that is fairly empty on a Saturday night.
(2)JP S.
Great atmosphere and service. Small menu but very high quality entrees. Highly recommend.
(4)Bob H.
Sabio is in Dudley Square where Dudley's used to be located. The entree' choices were all very good. I had the crispy duck and enjoyed it. The bar across the hallway is well stocked and serves a good drink. Noise is high in the main dining room, so we asked to be seated in the smaller one to the right. Actually the bar has tables and wasn't too noisy. We could hear the bass from the kitchen which is located below the smaller dining room. I was similar to sitting at a traffic light next to a car with a loud audio system when you can only hear the bass, but not that loud, just loud enough to be annoying. Since the food and drinks were very good, I'd return to Sabio, but I would probably ask for a table in the bar.
(4)Jason S.
The crab cake app was great. Our server was friendly and the patio was lovely. Will come back.
(4)blue t.
Very impressed with this place! The fried green tomato salad had one of the best FGTs I've ever had. I had the scallops, cooked perfectly with a generous helping of mashed potatoes and buerre blanc. My husband's duck was mouth-watering. And the chocolate fondant for dessert was decadent without being overwhelming. The portions were just right - I wasn't quite able to clean my plate but I didn't feel like I was wasting food either. We were there on a slow weeknight so there was no problem with the service. This will definitely be at the top of my special-occasion restaurant list.
(5)Chuck T.
This place is as overrated as it can get. Terrible food terrible service and a chef with an attitude that is way above the quality of the food. My pork chop was covered in so much sauce it looked like a walrus in an oil spill. Chicken lollies were not cooked thru and were red and bloody..a big no no for chicken. Sitting with a dry glass a search for my server revealed a typical find... texting texting texting. Terrible. Try applebees for a cheaper, albeit similar experience.
(1)Damien M.
Four and one half stars. Opened in the past week. Fine fine fine food and drink, sexy space, casual and friendly attitude. What is happening around here? The rash of restaurant openings has my pulse quickening and my mouth perpetually watering. Add this gem to the top 'o the new pile. The menu is adventurous, the presentation superb. The passion for food is apparent on the plate and in the mouth. The refashioned space, which was last used by Dudley' before Dudley's moved to Cheapside, is nicely done, both light, modern, and cozy. The bar, that is Detention Bar, a nod to original use, looks good. The patio is spacious and private from the street, and is soon to receive a fireplace. This one is worth revisiting, and one whose meals will likely haunt my thoughts for a while. Yum, and that's about the best compliment I can give.
(4)Steven P.
The building is amazing. However, Sabio does not live up to the building's standards. The food was average at best. The salmon felt like I was chewing jerky. The duck was too sweet. You could feel the wait staff's displeasure of having to work there. I would not recommend until new management arrives.
(2)Maxi S.
This place is incredibly overpriced for the quality of food & service. The maitre d' was very creepy and slightly unorganized. Our server had a difficult pronouncing half of the menu & it was slightly embarrassing. The wine list was rather overpriced and dull. My husband was taken aback by the amount their house Cabernet was. As frequent Lexington travels we're sad to say, we wont be coming back. It was a good try.
(2)J H.
The old schoolhouse setting is very charming. Wooden floors and wooden chairs... Great food at a reasonable price. A good wine list. Service is attentive and friendly. The menu is not very fancy or long but is versatile. Chances are everyone can find something they like on the menu. The entree size is smaller than that in A La Lucie's but is enough to keep you full for hours afterwards. The dessert menu is quite long and looks great, although, regrettably, we did not leave room for desserts. The only reason for me to knock off 1 star is its high noise level. They have two dining rooms in addition to the bar. In the room without table cloth, our waitress had to stand close to us and raise her volume when she told us the specials. The room was two-thirds full. No one was exceedingly loud, and the tables were not very close together. When you sit right next to someone at the table (as apposed to across the table), you can hear each other OK and converse in a normal volume. But romantic whispers are out of the question. Not sure if the other room is better, since we were not in it. Perhaps something can be done about the acoustics. We plan to revisit.
(4)Andrea R.
We ended up here on accident, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. We ate in the bar across the hall where they had an extra menu of small plates. The potato gnocchi were light and fluffy, probably the best I've ever had. The wok seared green beans were also delicious- tangy, sweet, and spicy. The kimchi ribs didn't wow me... the meat on the ribs was fine but there wasn't any kimchi on the plate. I expected something fiery or pickled at least. We will definitely go back to sit out on the patio.
(4)David K.
Just tried this new restaurant in Dudley Square and 4 of us had an excellent meal. My wife and I are vegetarians and they created one of the most beautifully presented meals we've ever had. Some restaurants that are not exclusively vegetarian tend to make you feel weird when you ask for vegetarian options but our waitress was very accommodating and suggested some items that weren't even on the menu. We started with the Sabio salad and it was a great warm up to a delicious meal. The other couple with us said their chicken dinner, with the vegetable sides tasted great. Add in a desert of warm chocolate cake with coffee ice cream and I'd have to say it's the best fine dining I've had in Lexington in years. As an added bonus...it was a great value for the dollar. Love it!!
(5)Bob K.
We had an excellent meal and a wonderful time. Our server was very personable and very attentive.

We have been hunting for a place in Lexington to host our rehearsal dinner after some initial inquiries fell through. Not to worry though because I think we found our place at Sabio over Christmas break. My fiancé and I had a meeting with our cake decorator by Dudley Square, and my fiancé had been in contact with the manager at Sabio and really wanted to try them out after the friendly e-mail exchange he'd had with the manager. We were seated on the back end of lunch service so we quickly ordered the French onion soup, a salad, and the Turkey and Brie sandwich. If lunch is any indication of what's in store for us on rehearsal dinner night, we are in for a treat. I know what we ordered may not sound too complicated but every bite was really delicious. The Gruyere just melted into this wonderfully delicious cup of soup. The Sabio salad with the candied pecans and maple mustard vinaigrette was really outstanding and came with a beautiful piece of perfectly cooked salmon. Heck, even the Turkey and Brie finished with an apricot spread was welcomed and delicious surprise. By the end of the meal, my fiancé walked over to Tim and placed a deposit on the place for the rehearsal dinner after hashing out a few details. Stay tuned for a hopefully scrumptious update.

Upscale and historic with a bit of hipster. The happy hour is stellar with drink specials and good chicken lollipops. These drumettes are slathered with a spicy smoky sweet sauce that is very flavorful and some of the best sauce ever. Good service abounds and Includes warm towelettes for sticky fingers. This is just at happy hour! Wow. The house Chardonnay was crisp and buttery and the bread very fresh. Great food. Must eat the chicken pops! Great value and experience.
(5)Nina L.
Courteous staff. It was quiet tonight but we were still well catered too. Salmon here is a hit! Loved the spring roll entree. Eclectic ambiance and tasty food. Great combo.
(5)Sarah D.
We loved the burgers and the service was outstanding.
(4)Jason H.
I ate at this restaurant twice with a friend. The building (Dudley Square) that houses the restaurant is has original hardwood floors with the decor being tasteful. My friend had the Filet Mignon with Smoked Cheddar Au Gratin Potatoes, Grilled Asparagus, Pommery Mustard Demi Glacè, & Foie Gras Butter and I had the Crispy Chicken, Manchego & Chipotle Whipped Potatoes, Grilled Zucchini & Squash, Crispy Plantains & Tomatillo Sauce. The quality of the both were so delicious; outstanding and our service was slow, which is disappointing for a $$$ restaurant. I also recommend the Sabio salad as an appetizer. My friend and I enjoyed every bite of our dessert. Elite approved with a note to improve service and attention to detail.
(4)Amy W.
Trendy downtown eatery for lunch? You know what that means? Yes, this was a work treat. Sabio is located in historic Dudley Square. The restaurant is painted with bold primary colors. Sabio is the type of place that brings you a tiny bowl of ketchup on top of a plate with a paper doily. The fried green tomato sandwich was tasty with bacon, cheese, and of course a perfectly fried green tomato. This sandwich included an overly generous portion of fries. I believe that it must have taken more that one potato to produce that many fries!
(5)Megan M.
I have not eaten in the proper restaurant but I have done happy hour in the bar and it is amazing. $2 beer, $3 wells and $4 wines from 3pm-6pm plus these insanely delicious chicken lollipops for $4.50. I cannot get over how awesomely priced the happy hour is. The atmosphere is great and trendy. The staff could have been more friendly but it wasn't awful. Definitely go if you work on/around UK and you're tired of undergrad bars for happy hour. This is where the adults should "wine" down.
(5)Jen M.
This was my husband and I's first time at Sabio. Last night we were celebrating our anniversary and wanted somewhere special. This turned out to be the perfect place. The service was excellent, from the hostess / co-owner Amy to the waiter Mason. The dinner specials were tasty with tomato bisque to start, then an appetizer of quail on mixed greens and cod on a bed of potatoes and wilted spinach with a balsamic flavor. My husband had the scallops that Mason recommended. That was definitely the way to go if you love scallops. They were melt in your mouth!!! Then the dessert "Sweet Biscuit" was delicious. We will definitely be going back to try some other things on the menu!
