I really want to like Dad's Favorites! I have several friends who have spoken highly of the man's spreads at Kroger and the sandwiches at the Gardenside location. I finally ventured in to the downtown location today, on a whim since I was in the area and had lunch open with an unexpected extra fiver in my pocket. It cost more than $5. And it wasn't WAY over $6 but that's because I got no chips, no soup, no drink. Just a sandwich and a water. A veggie sandwich at that. I was assured by the cashier that they put LOTS of veggies on the sandwich and that the only issue would be what DON'T I want on it instead of what DO I want on it. It was kinda skimpy, honestly, for a 7"er. The cheese spread was good but there wasn't much of it to move it beyond condiment into layer. The bread was good too, but how hard is it to source good local fresh bread, I mean that's a gimmie for a specialty sandwich store. The veg was: three or four thin pepper strips, three or four thin onion strips, a tomato slice per half, some romaine and some spinach, and some pickle slices. Dad himself was there, running the show and maintaining a presence. He was nice, chatty, watching over things since I gather the downtown dynamic is still new to his operation. I can't see why they have such limited hours, only from 11a-3p. I suppose it's to solely capitalize on downtown office lunchers but I hope his operating costs don't eat up that 4-hour revenue window. Also, they were PUMPING the UK game. Not just had it on (and an exhibition game at that) but it was so loud that if I had been eating with a friend or a colleague I'd be struggling to hold the most basic of conversations. UK rules but jeezoman c'mon I do want to have a modium of peace with my grub. AND yes I did notice a really odd smell too. It's not completely unpleasant like some poor unfortunate restaurants have of completely bathroom smell, but it's not appetizing either. I wonder what they can do about that...?!? In the future in downtown if I'm hankering for a sandwich joint I'll hit up Courtyard Deli, Shorty's, or even Subway. I'm sorry to say but I think Dad maybe should have stayed happy with his grocery sales and his suburban brasserie. If he survives downtown for the 6 months or whatever that it takes for me to be there during lunchtime with a spare bill then I'll see what improvements have been made.

Had lunch there today. Extremely friendly staff. Fast service. The restaurant was clean and had ample seating. One of us had the asiago pot roast sandwich (me). It was great. I asked for them to go light on the house sauce and they, in fact, did. I loved the roasted red pepper sauce that was served on the side. The other of us had a smokey pimento BLT and she said hers was great, too. There are three things that I look for in a lunch joint: (1) good food; (2) fast service; (3) ample seating. Dad delivered on all three. Can't wait to go back.

Pulled pork was awesome! The mac and cheese was amazing, and proves bacon always makes it better! The cheese platter for us first timers was a great sample of the spreads and the service was friendly and knowledgeable! No negatives at all so 5 big stars from me!

This place has the best pimento cheese. This is not regular pimento cheese this is delicious, speciality cheese, pimento cheese. The pepper jack and Asiago are my favorites. They are both tangy and bursting with cheese flavor. This is grown-up pimento cheese. They do have daily specials. I tried the Cuban and it was tasty, but not the best in town (have you been to Old San Juan?). Everything they put their version of pimento cheese is going to be good. There is also a staff member offer free samples of their various products, even when they are busy. Great place. They are only open for lunch.

I've noticed Dad's Favorites at the Farmer's Market, but I've never stopped to try any of their cheese spreads. What a fool I have been! I stopped in at the downtown location for lunch with some friends, and had a great experience. The manager was offering any first-timers the opportunity to sample all of their spreads for free. And let me tell you, they were delicious! I'm not a big fan of chipotle or pimento, but the spreads that contained these ingredients were awesome. I ordered the pepper jack club sandwich, and it was great; full of turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and the pepper jack cheese spread. It was the perfect pairing of flavors. There were a few drawbacks, but I can overlook them: the hours (only open for lunch), the shop is rather small (it's crowded and can be loud), it's downtown (parking sucks), and the prices are a little high ($6 or more for just a sandwich). Regardless, it's definitely a place I'd go back to again and I'd recommend you try it as well.

Ate here again and had the Rachel this time. It was still wonderful food, but two things: the sandwich was overpriced and the strange smell remains. The sandwich was $7 and that's just a sandwich on regular-sized bread, no chips or side included. I would think maybe $4-5 would be reasonable for such a sandwich. With a drink my meal was $9. Super tasty, loved the sandwich, but the price was steep. The inside of the restaurant smelled as strange as last time. My whole group commented on it. We can't figure out what it smells like. Maybe a combination of burnt cheese and vinegar?

Cheese... Wonderful delicious cheese. I was promised amazing cheese spreads before coming here and I was not disappointed. Dad's Favorites make all of their own cheese spreads. They don't fool around with silly cream cheese and sour creams but instead use real grown up cheeses. As a first timer I was offered the chance to sample each of their amazing cheese spreads and every single one was delicious! Their pimento spread is fantastic. I have to say this because I despise all pimento cheese spreads I have ever encountered in my life before this but Dad's pimento cheese spread is one of the tastiest things I have even eaten. I actually ordered their every day Pepper Jack Club. This sandwich was fantastic. I was in such a rush to enjoy it I forgot to take a picture of its grandness first. The restaurant itself was crowded and loud but that is to be expected at lunch. Otherwise it was actually very clean and the staff (most of whom I believe were family) were very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely eat again here in the future!

I've been wanting to try Dad's for a long time after hearing rave reviews about the food. I had sampled some spreads this summer at the Farmers market and fell in love with the pimento cheese. It had a unique smoky flavor and I just knew I was headed for the pimento BLT. This is the newest location which is just opened for lunch. It's a small quaint restaraunt so it could get crowded at the 12 o'clock lunch rush. You can eat in or take it to go. We ended up getting there around 1 or so and it wasn't too crowded. As I was placing that pimento BLT order the cashier said have you tried the farmhouse special which is their Monday special. I hadn't. It was chicken salad and pimento cheese and he said I know you may not think to put those flavors together, but it was one of most popular sandwiches. I ventured out and tried it. I'm so glad I did. There was just a small layer of the pimento cheese on the bottom slices and it surprisingly meshed well with the chicken salad. The staff was friendly and the owner was there serving and greeting guests. I will definitely be back to try more of their specials. They do sell some of their spreads in the local Kroger and Liquor Barns.

Luckily I came on a Wednesday where the daily special was their take on a Cuban sandwich. For $7 you get a good sized, incredibly delicious specialty sandwich! The staff were very friendly and helpful too, I'll be back soon!

Pimento cheese, chicken salad, and bacon! You must have been in my fantasy. The Farmhouse sandwich is where it is at

This place is so good. I've been to both the Lane Allen location and the downtown one, and in both areas the customer service is fantastic. My first time one of the guys offered me a free taste test of all of their cheese spreads, which was great. My least favorite would honestly have to be the beer cheese, and that's only because I prefer my beer cheese warm and more of a sauce consistency. I've tried multiple sandwiches as well as several of their specials and the only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the potato soup. The sandwiches are solid - whether it's the pot roast, pulled pork, club, chicken salad, whatever! The Mac and cheese side is tasty and has a nice kick, the tomato sauce that comes on the side of the pot roast sandwich is something I could just drink by itself. Seriously, if you want a great sandwich this place will not let you down.

Honestly love everything about Dad's! The spreads are absolutely delicious & Ive even some great sandwiches myself at home with it! Nothing beats the pepperjack club! Great location! Great atmosphere! And love getting to talk to Dad himself!

I tried a Chipotle cheddar roast beaf sandwich during my vacation. It tasted excellent with a beef consomme dip offered with the sandwich. With a bit more volume and a few slices of pickles at the side, my rating (~4.3) would be 5. The manager "Dad" kindly offered sampling of cheese spreads, which were delicious.

I enjoy Dad's Favorite. It probably doesn't hurt that I'm a huge fan of Pimento cheese spread and sandwiches. It's close to my work, and I probably wouldn't have tried it otherwise. The staff is very friendly, and the food is quick. The Reuben is my favorite.

So delicious it's ridiculous. Every item on the menu is great, the staff is friendly, the atmosphere is fun and you're sure to see a friend or coworker while eating. This is a must and a welcome gem on Main Street.
