First time visit. The two people behind the counter were so nice. They also were proud of what they do which made the experience even better. We each ordered a bacon ice cream sandwich. Since we ordered the same thing the guy made them a little different so we could share and try something different. A little pricey but overall a great experience.

Lexington isn't a city overflowing with local ice cream options, so Crank & Boom may seem great in this specific context. However, while the flavors seem relatively original, few of Crank & Boom's offerings are particularly flavorful or noteworthy. Even the blackberry and buttermilk - by far the best flavor they have - just tastes like a nice, subtle blackberry ice cream (the buttermilk flavor is, to me, impossible to discern). The ice cream is a bit pricey, but it's not more expensive than other local or "gourmet" ice creams. The problem is that almost all of their recognizable/common flavors are outdone by several store brands. I think this ice cream was best as an offering at the erstwhile Thai Orchid Cafe (even though it eventually took over their whole dessert menu, pushing off better items).

I really had only heard of this place in passing, but we ran into their ice cream cart at the Mayfest Arts Festival at Gratz Park this weekend and were taken aback by their flavor selection. Definitely some interesting choices to make. We quickly settled on two scoops, one of their Spicy Oaxacan Chocolate and Bourbon & Honey flavor. These flavors paired together perfectly. The spicy chocolate was chocolatey and bitter, working against the sweet flavor of local honey and that faint woodiness flavor that only bourbon can provide. While either flavor might be excellent individually, I almost feel like too much of one could almost be overpowering. This selection was probably the best decision we could have made. I am intrigued by their blackberry buttermilk flavor, however. Maybe I should have taken them up on their offer of free samples. The only thing I can think of in town that comes anywhere close to this quality is Sav's Chill, which is a tough contender to take on (particularly their Hot Banana and Ale-8 Sorbet). But dang, that was some tasty ice cream.

The flavors are really good. I particularly like the bourbon and honey. But the ice cream (any flavor) always leaves a weird texture in my mouth. Kind of a waxy coating on the roof of my mouth. I've given Crank and Boom several tries and that always happens. Same with my husband so I know I'm not just crazy! That feeling kind of ruins it for me.

Crank and Boom opened an Ice Cream Lounge on Manchester Street. My daughter and I had never tasted this ice cream before so I thought we would give it a try. There are a few other establishments in this complex and it was very crowded. Parking was definitely a problem. We when we reached the ice cream lounge the line was out the door! However, it moved quickly. I ordered a single scoop of chocolate brownie fudge and my daughter had vanilla. However, they had other flavor like bourbon and honey which I have heard is really good. We enjoyed our ice cream and would definitely go back.

Crank & Boom Blackberry Buttermilk is the very best ice cream I've ever had! It's rich, not too sweet, and incredibly creamy. I've introduced it to every out-of-towner who has visited us, and everyone loves it!

I was excited to try crank & boom given the hype I've heard since moving to lexington this past fall. If it's truly the best then I dont mind paying the higher price point. But I honestly have to say, it's not the best ice cream I've ever had. It's decent. I didn't get too excited about it, but maybe it's because I've had Jeni's Ice Cream out of Columbus, Ohio. Now THAT is exceptional ice cream! I unfortunately cannot put Crank & Boom into the same exceptional category. But I will still partake in seeking it out in order to support local businesses. Today we tried the Honey & Bourbon and the Coffee Stout. I think I will table those experiences and seek out different flavors. Perhaps I will enjoy other flavors more. I'm a die hard Jeni's fan. That is irreplaceable ice cream.

Found Crank & Boom at the Lexington Farmer's Market on a Saturday afternoon. It is pricey an I wish they had a kid's scoop price for the small because it was a kid scoop size. But - it was mighty tasty! I tasted the blackberry & buttermilk (yum), the fresh strawberry (yum), and the bourbon & honey. I chose the bourbon & honey as the strawberry didn't have big chunks of strawberry in it (I like big hunks and I cannot lie!). The B-H was very good and I will go to Crank & Boom again!

Best homemade ice cream ever!! The blackberry buttermilk is to die for and the fresh strawberry is amazing on a hot summer day! No artificial crap either!

It is definitely delicious but 1 measly scoop with a squirt of magic shell for $6? Umm. I am all about local products but i am not about ripping locals off.

This is absolutely the best ice cream ANYWHERE! Yeah, it's a little pricey but it is well worth it. It's so rich it coats your mouth in milk-fat from the cream. I went with a group of family and we ordered several flavors, all were amazing. The Blueberry Buttermilk was so unique, a little twang in a delicious ice cream. TRY IT!

C&B''s new location is in the Distillery District at 1210 Manchester. I went for the grand opening yesterday. First let me say, I love Toa's ice cream. She creates wonderful, inventive flavors. The coconut, coffee stout, blackberry & buttermilk, all yummy. The bourbon & honey that I had yesterday, however, was rather bland and flavorless, a little too "vanilla" for me. The cup, at $4, is a little small although plenty for me -- this ice cream is rich. I'd pass on the sundaes as the toppings are sparse and not worth the additional $2. -- unless it was an "operator error". The building itself is neat, with plenty of seating on two floors and the patio area. Love the copper topped tables upstairs, with fresh flowers. The new location is somewhat out of the way, so unless I'm nearby and craving, it's unlikely I'd frequent it. Still, it's great ice cream! I'm thinking Spicy Oaxacan Chocolate next time.

We have coffee stout and vanilla beans ice creams. Both mix and the taste is delicious.
