I seriously can't say enough good about this place. There's nothing bad on the menu. The brisket is probably my favorite. Hushpuppies and cheesy bacon fries are the best sides. And either the banana pudding or chocolate cake for dessert. City Barbeque is the real deal. You can see the smokers as you order. I literally eat at City 2 - 3 times a week. Highly recommend.

Meat smoked in house, sides made fresh daily; with City Barbeque you can taste the quality. My favorite meat is the smoked turkey. I also tried a serving of peach cobbler with whipped cream that was divine! It wasn't merely sweet, but also contains some spices like cinnamon and others. City Barbeque freezes unused food and donates it to those in need. This is a great casual barbeque place. I wish that I still worked close by so I could come here for lunch!

Friendly place with a great ambiance. Now lets talk about the food. Great food all around. 2 for 2 people is to get the family pack best value.

Great BBQ and a great family deal!!! The meal for two feeds our whole family with a few extra sides! Can't beat the deal and the goodness of the food!! Glad City BBQ is on our side of town now!!

Fantastic BBQ brisket! I tried the "More Cowbell" sandwich for the first time and really enjoyed it. The side dishes are tasty and I especially liked the greens and the green beans. The staff are all so friendly as well and overall this is a great place to go for a casual and friendly atmosphere. This is a great place to get quality food, very fast and be sure to get large portions as well.

Basic bbq for the person who wants a decent meal, good fries, but is not a bbq snob. Need to up the beer selections, though.

This Cali girl hasn't ever had BBQ like this!!! The closest we had in California was dickies BBQ which is pretty awful in California. I always get half a chicken and it's enough for me to be in BBQ heaven for two days. My husband always gets ribs and he always seems to enjoy them. It's one of the fire depts. go to lunch places. It's just a little pricey but sometimes you just need some good BBQ!

This is my friends' favorite BBQ place, and I can see why. Generous portions of well-smoked meats, and tasty sides made for a delicious dinner. I can see why this place is so popular!

Picked up a 100$ go order. Brisket & pork both very good. Slab of ribs some what over the top doneness ends tough from over cooking. Sides all good.

This BBQ restaurant is absolutely delicious! I don't like BBQ sauce and still find that the chicken is not the least bit dry at all. I dine in here quite frequently. Their fries are extremely salty though. Especially the cheese fries. If you don't like a ton of salt keep that in mind. That's the only thing I would change. Keep up the amazing food!

Yuck and yuck. Just paid $25 for cold pulled chicken and soupy mac and cheese. And, cold pulled pork and excellent French fries. 1 iced tea and one warm beer. Not going back. Not ever. Gross!

Great selection of sauces! I didn't care much for the sides but the pulled pork was delicious. The brisket was a little dry at times but tender overall. I wanted to order the peach cobbler which looked so delicious, but I was way too full.

As an avid follower of SI's Andy Staples' food recommendations, I was looking forward to a mini-BBQ tour of Lexington. We started with a classic, Billy's, and I wanted to follow that up with Staples' rec, Red State BBQ. Alas, it was too far of a hike to make pre-basketball game, but City BBQ (the new location) was very close by our hotel. I had seen it rec'd on a couple other Lexington sites, and I would be comfortable proffering it to Mr. Staples' visit list. City BBQ has a clean, new-school look, not unlike a Rudy's BBQ in Texas. The counter line is bright and welcoming, with a gamut of meats to satisfy your fancy, and the requisite sampler platters to boot. We went with the city sampler, a quadtuplet of the finest meats City has to offer. I requested substituting ribs for the pulled pork, in addition to the brisket, chicken, and turkey. First, since I am a born and bred Texan, the brisket. It certainly looked the part, juicy and fatty. Similar to Smoque in Chicago, it's by no means as as good as the stuff you can get in the Lone Star State (think Snow's in Lexington or Franklin in Austin), but it wasn't chopped liver, either. I got equal portions of the point and flat (fatty and lean), which was well done by the slicer. I'm a fatty brisket kind of guy, but the lean acquitted itself well. The white meats, both turkey and chicken, were moist and succulent. The chicken was far better than the offering at Billy's the night prior. The ribs were also good, not quite as good as the fine pork you can find in Chicago, but well-seasoned. The meat was more partition off the bone rather than fall off the bone soft. Texas Toast with the meats (apparently a thing in Lexington) is inspired, and I wish it were a thing in Texas. The sweet tea, like Billy's, blows Chicago's out of the water. Service was friendly and expedient. Also, bonus stars for the sampler platter fit to feed a small army, as opposed to just the two of us. Good for leftovers, that.

Been eating here a lot lately and I just love the quality and quantity for the price. The sides are all amazing and the hush puppies are some of the best I've ever had. If you like hush puppies go get a basket for yourself and you will thank me later!

Great food, awesome environment! Try the city sampler to be able to taste all the different bbq they have to offer. Only Con: Don't go there on a UK game day, no SEC network channel. We had to eat our food quickly to get back home to watch the game.

City BBQ has quickly become my favorite restaurant. Of course the beef is outstanding but the smoke turkey is coming my favorite. All the staff is always friendly and has a smile on their face. I noticed on this visit that they had added two large picnic table to the dining room. Great idea for large groups. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to try the covered pavilion for pickup ordered. Call in your order and order online. They have cameras to let them know when someone pulls in. They bring the food to your car.

The good: the smoked meats, the majority of the sides, customer service, the random drink selections, interior and exterior. Barbecue sauces The bad: the Mac and cheese, the French fries. The rundown: from outside you can smell the meat smoking, already a great sign. Around the back, attached to the building you see the smoker and all the wood that will be used to cook these glorious meats. Inside reminds you of a small town BBQ joint. They have Cherrywine, ginger soda, and other old fashion sodas along with a personal favorite of Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Ordering the food is very easy and quick, and you move down to watch them cut and pull apart your food right in front if you. The corn bread, hush puppies, and most importantly the corn pudding are amazing. The only sides I don't like are the French fries, and the Mac and cheese. The fries are soggy, limp, and just don't taste good. The Mac and cheese is grainy, not cheesy at all, over cooked, and overall tasteless. The impression: this is a fantastic restaurant. The food is amazing and the people are some of the most polite around. This is a great place to go in groups or by yourself. This is a place I will go to time and again.

Good BBQ place. Large enough to smoke ample meat and keep customers happy even when getting slammed. Wasnt impressed on the sides. Any of them actually, but the meat was tasty. My favorite being the sausage. The brisket had great flavor but missed out on the ribs due to an overruling by my girlfriend. Good reason to go back.

I have used City BBQ for at least 10 catered meals. Everyone comments about how much they love the food! The Brisket and Chicken are favorites, including the corn pudding and green beans. Always ready when I go pick up. If you need to feed large numbers this is so easy!

Super friendly staff at this location. I attended a free event before the restaurant even opened, and everyone was very knowledgable as if they'd been working here forever. Really enjoy all the smoked meats especially the brisket and pulled pork. I love City BBQ and have been to several of their locations. I was introduced by friends in Columbus, and since I'm from Cleveland and there are no locations in north east ohio, when they opened the first store in Lexington a year after I moved here, I was thrilled.

Second time dining in, third time eating their food. As always, great food, excellent service, and the GM Ryan is so friendly and genuinely happy to cook for all!

As a vegetarian, barbecue places are not usually the first place I would choose to eat at, but I'm glad I was talked into eating here. My boyfriend loves the chicken sandwich...I've never seen him devour something so quickly! I had the (not on the menu) three side plate and it was great! The corn pudding was phenomenal...there are not words to describe how good it was! My other favorite, though, was a freebie. They have pickles up by the drink station that are really good, homemade dill pickles. I highly recommend trying them! Overall, good food, neat atmosphere (more casual than I expected, but I liked that), and friendly staff. We will definitely be back!

We've had City Barbecue brought in for meeting at work and it was great! The pulled pork is great, the pulled chicken is great, the sauces are tasty, side were all good. But... The in store experience was very different. It's not super clear where the line is supposed to be to wait for your order (or if you're supposed to or if they bring it to you or what...) And the dining space, drink fountain and everything else are crowded and awkward to move through. None of that is a major problem. The major problem was, since I'd already had the pork and chicken, I decided to try the ribs... And what was served to me was not what I would call "ribs". I'm pretty sure it was a baseball glove with some bone tips jammed in the ends of the fingers and lightly brushed with pork-colored deck sealant. I could not pull the ribs apart using the bone tips -- they just broke apart. I tried a knife and fork and *bent the fork*. I don't even remember what it tasted like, because I spat out the small piece of gristly "meat" I was eventually able top wrench from the larger mass. You know that guy who got trapped under a boulder, sawed off his own arm with a pocket knife and then walked miles to find help? This "meat" was tougher than that guy. It makes the McRib seem wholesome and natural. I went back to the counter and ordered a pulled pork sandwich. Which, once again, was delightful! So City Barbecue is great IF you get the pulled pork or chicken and take it home. Otherwise, it is an unhappy dining experience. PS: Seriously. I could not finish one bite of the ribs. I brought them home for my dog, but haven't given her any because I'm not sure it wouldn't qualify as animal cruelty.

Best BBQ in Lex! Just opened this year. We're local and this is the ONLY BBQ place we eat at now! Not the best ribs, but the brisket is almost magical. Try the City Sampler is you have a family of four and upgrade the sides to larger version. Their sweet tea & lemonade, not to mention their fresh BBQ sauce, pickles & red onion bring it all together!

Ever really crave home cooked food, but don't have time to cook or go to your grandma's house? City Barbecue offers the perfect solution. The barbecue is delicious with several sauces to try. They have lots of different vegetable sides that all taste homemade and delicious. The green beans tasted just like my grandma's. I like that they have a turkey option which was very good and perfect for my husband on a lowfat diet. Food comes out quickly and you're on your way. Great place to eat when you're on the go!

I don't understand the really good reviews. I ate there the other day and had the brisket, which was not even average. Sure, I've had worse but I've had far better and not just in Texas. In fact, I just had brisket at Red State bbq, which was better (still not great brisket but certainly better than City bbq). The greens had way too much vinegar for my taste but I accept that that's a matter of preference. The fries were excellent. However, I don't go to a barbecue place for the fries. I did ask for a sample of pulled pork, and I'd strongly recommend it over the brisket if you find yourself there. By the way, the sauces were pretty underwhelming as well. The one that was meant to be spicy was way more sweet than spicy and overall unbalanced and didn't complement the beef well. I originally posted this by mistake in a Yelp event located at City BBQ. It was removed, so I'm posting in the right place now.

Staff is attentive, and I have to say the sandwich I received was fresh and delicious. My only issue is the fact that one sandwich, with no sides or drink, was 8 bucks. Is it a good sandwich? Absolutely. Is it worth 8 bucks? Absolutely not.

Had heard good things about City BBQ from family and decided to try it today and take my Mother to lunch to thank her for - well just being a great Mom. First let me say as soon as we walked in we were greeted by a very outgoing and nice Gentlemen welcoming us inside. ( I wish I could have gotten his name) It was easy to tell it was our first time there as they noticed we were taking a long time to review the overhead menu. When asked if it was our first time I reluctantly said yes - well the cashier said and I quote: "Welcome and your drinks are on the house"! Both of us had the BBQ Chicken with two sides and a drink. The Gentleman noticed my elderly Mom attempting to pick up her tray of food as I was filling our drinks and he immediately offered to help and carried her tray to our table. I was truly appreciative. The BBQ Chicken (I had the Leg and Thigh) was and I say this sincerely, the best chicken I have ever had. Sides included green beans, corn pudding and mac & cheese between us. The green beans were just awesome as was the corn pudding, which I have never found anywhere in Lexington before now. However the mac & cheese was a little bland. Then came the choice of sauces of which we tried all three and found the sweet one to be the best! So much so, I bought a bottle for my Mom to take home. I have found it's either great food and lousy service or great service and lousy food. Not here - it was great service and even better food! I can not wait to go back and try several other items from the menu!
