If you are in the area (unlikely) and at the right time (more unlikely) you're in for a treat. You've got to make Knockum Hill a destination, it's pretty far back from the interstate and any major towns. You've also got to go on a Friday or Saturday, I believe they're open from 11 to 7 only on those days. Bring cash! Once you get into Herndon, you'll come to a four way intersection, you want to turn down the road that has the post office on it (across from the Amish market stand and the archery shop). Go for about half a mile and Knockum Hill is on your right. Park on the lawn and follow the signs for the kitchen. Or follow your nose because there will be incredible hickory smoke wafting from the smoker behind the kitchen. They've got a large covered outdoor sitting area with picnic tables and plenty of paper towels. There's also a few tables indoors if you need to escape the Kentucky summer. Food is basic, and awesome. You've got your mains: ribs, pulled pork and a giant (I mean giant. It's 5 inches thick) pork chop. Sides are cole slaw, baked beans, potato salad and burgoo. Prices run about $7 to $14 and include a soda. The folks are friendly, either locals or soldiers from nearby Fort Campbell. This is my favorite hometown secret spot, so enjoy the food and enjoy the journey to get there!
