First, let me state clearly that I am a Thai food enthusiast. Every time I find a new restaurant I start with the Pad See Ew then move from there. Good Pad See Ew is not as easy to make as it would seem. The perfect Pad See Ew will have noodles that are firm but not "al dente", a rich color, a smoky flavor that seems a little burnt, crispy broccoli in bite-size cuts, small slices of carrot, and liberal quantities of egg that is not overcooked to crispness. This is just like, my opinion, man, but there it is. But on to the review. The store resides in a nondescript, decaying plaza with great potholes and empty storefronts. The interior is very dimly lit, perhaps to hide the threadbare decor and less-than-sanitary conditions. No worries, mate, it's a restaurant in a strip mall, so what do you expect? A very unenthusiastic staff member seated me at a table that could use a good cleaning. There were rings from drinks glasses and something a bit sticky at my setting. I ordered the pad see ew as you might expect and asked for the spice tray, as I am wont to do (does anyone actually use that word? I felt the need to be erudite and well spoken...did it work?). The "spice tray" consisted of a bowl of Chinese chili in oil, nothing I would consider putting on any actual food anywhere, anytime. I began to have my doubts. I asked for some dry chili pepper and received some standard italian red pepper broken, not crushed, with lots of seeds and stems. A "fresh" spring roll arrived shortly laden with enough oil to lube an Abrams tank. I left it on the plate, untouched as I am not through using my coronary arteries. Definitely I began to feel some concern about the approaching meal. It arrived promptly. However, even at first glance I could see that it was not well made. There were four or five borderline raw, full-sized broccoli "florets" that I had trouble cutting. They were as warm as a kitten, but I don't eat kittens and I like hot food. The noodles varied in consistency between dissipated mush and clumps of pasty goo. The sauce was terribly sweet and had the consistency of simple syrup with a touch of soy, which I suppose it was. There was no flavor at all other than sugar. I asked for fish sauce to kill the sweetness and received about one half teaspoon in a small stainless cup. I added the entire contents to about one-fifth of my meal and got it down. I immediately regretted my decision, asked for the check, and hit the door. Now, I am reluctant to declare that a restaurant is "bad" or "good" on one visit. All of us have or days of varying success. This is why I added the second star. The staff were prompt and followed the forms of courtesy, albeit with no enthusiasm or cheerfulness. Again, I cannot judge on a single visit, but I report here my experience. If you choose to visit, I hope your experience is better. I cannot give my recommendation that you try it, but maybe they just had a bad day so, use your own judgment based on all the reviews, not just mine.

I've had pretty awesome Thai food in my days and as you may notice, I might try a place a few times before I give a final verdict. This place gets crowded with the locals during lunch rush. The locals like it a lot. Personally, after visiting four times and ordering four different things, I've concluded that this place serves salty and bland food that doesn't have much aroma. My meat arrived as if it was pan boiled and neither it nor the vegetables had sauce covering it. The food didn't seem to be cooked with the sauce. I tried, but no thanks. On a positive note: Staff and service were nice. Thai tea was good too.

Passable Thai for the area, and way better than local Asian alternatives. Overcooked, but large, shrimp. Incredibly stuffed dumplings. Fast efficient (almost rushed) service, mostly prepped already. Thai hot isn't very spicy at all. Curiously, no Thai flag, no picture of the King, no Buddha. I'd eat here again, but I won't go out of my way for it.

Love the Spicy Noodle and Rice. The staff is friendly and funny. Go early if you want a good seat at lunchtime seeing they become packed really fast.

Like the other reviews, I give this one a thumbs up. When one thinks of Thai cuisine, Frankfort Kentucky is not typically one of the top thousand cities that might come to mind. Thai Smile might change that. Large portions of solid country food at a reasonable price. Fans of authentic Thai take note: The recipes have been toned waaaaaaay down for local tastes. Ordering the five out of five on the spicy scale barely registers if you're used to the Thai we typically get in more likely cities.

Love this place. Worked in Frankfort was on my list every week. Don't let the whole in the wall make you miss this find!! Top Thai place around.

Small restaurant in an abandoned looking strip mall. Surprisingly busy inside, lots of customers which was a good sign. Staff was very kind and helpful. Chicken pad thai was very good. Ordered medium spiciness which was not spicy at all. The egg noodle bowl with fried chicken was very "Americanized" but tasty and perfect for a very picky eater not familiar with Thai food. Fairly large portions. The table next to us ordered the pineapple curry which looked delicious. Will be back to try other menu items :) happy that Frankfort has a good Thai restaurant.

Hidden in a strip mall- the area looks not so good, but the service and food in Thai Smile makes it all better! We are regular customers here- I LOVE their sweet and sour Chicken- 10 stars baby! The service is quick and friendly. We typically get our meal in less than 10 minutes after ordering. The food is hot and delicious! Tons on the menu to choose from but small dining area- so plan strategically when going. We have never had a problem getting a table though- but we typically eat there on off-peak lunch/dinner hours.

Amazing! I have eaten at a lot of Thai places in multiple states and no one beats Thai Smile. My go to is red curry but pad Thai and panag curry are also great

Only a restaurant of this quality could thrive in a hidden location in a mostly empty strip mall. Don't miss out on this jem. Its incredibly difficult to find great Thai in KY and Thai Smile is as good as it gets. I have a hard time not getting my favorite, red curry, but the other curries and the pad Thai are all excellent.

Pad Thai is a Frankfort native favorite. Quick, unpretentious, and delicious, it's best dish is the chicken pad Thai, but the curries are also very good.

This place is always packed in Frankfort! Especially around lunch time ! Good and spicy food. Fast service. You can make it in and out quick on your lunch break or order to go !

This Thai place is tucked back in a mostly abandoned strip mall off of 127 in Frankfort. Despite the lack of visibility they were doing a brisk lunch business on a Tuesday during the Arctic Vortex. Yes, we ventured out despite the real possibility of being transported into another Arctic dimension. That didn't happen, as far as we know. What did happen was some pretty good Thai food. The lunch menu is a bit limited. They have the usual suspects but there doesn't seem to be a choice of protein. I ordered Pad Ke Mao. It came with chicken. Chicken is not my favorite because more often than not white meat chicken is cooked to death leaving it very dry. It was overcooked in this case however the noodles were a good shade of al dente. I ordered Thai hot but alas, they did not believe me. It still had a great flavor I just would have preferred some heat. This was especially disappointing because they had a hand written sign on the door warning of the extreme heat in this weeks batch of chilis. The gf had Chicken Pad Thai. She would have preferred tofu but again this didn't seem to be a choice. This could have been due to the very heavy lunch crowd they were having. They also didn't ask us if we wanted any drinks. A runner filled our water glasses and left the pitcher. This worked out just fine. We will definitely return and give it another go.

I hit this place up once every two weeks for lunch. Usually slammed but they are very efficient and friendly about getting you seated as soon as possible. Food is fantastic. The menu says it goes up to 5 stars in heat but most people order on a 10 star basis (or higher). Always very fast, very efficient service.

I work in Frankfort and Thai Smile is one of our favorite spots for lunch. It's best to arrive shortly after 11am or wait until around 1pm, though, as it's a very popular place and you're likely to have to wait in line for a table if you show up at noon. The menu is sizable and includes all the things you'd expect at a Thai restaurant. My favorites are the Rama Chicken (and the servers always point out that it has peanut sauce and make sure that's not a problem) and the Chicken Pad Thai. A friend of mine is a vegetarian and always substitutes tofu for chicken with no problems. The egg rolls are amazing. The service can be lacking at times, because they're so busy. And you checkout at the counter, where there's always a line. The guy at the counter kind of barks your total at you and I always feel like I'm being too slow to suit him, even when I have my credit card in hand and I'm ready to go. It amuses me, but I could see that offending others.

Stopped by this place with my wife and a friend about three weeks ago. We've been craving some good Thai food ever since we moved to town. My wife, being a central KY native recommended Thai Smile. I'm so glad she did. I ordered one of their curries. It was excellent. I ordered a 3 on a hot scale of 1 to 5, 5 being hot. It was perfect. I enjoy spicy food and may go for a 4 next time. The curry had a nice consistency and good balance of veggies and chicken. I tried my wife's Pad Thai and it was very good. I'm looking forward to checking this place out again. We'd probably go more often if it wasn't a bit of a drive.

Thai Smile offers big portions of tasty Thai food, with fast and friendly service, at affordable prices. I guess it's been in Frankfort for years, even though I have only been going there in the past year. This is unfortunate, since Frankfort doesn't have much to offer by way of the ethnic restaurant scene, and had I known about TS sooner, I would definitely have frequented it. However, the kiddo and I crave Thai food A LOT, and on weekends visiting family, I frequently just don't have it in me to make the 35 minute commute to Lexington for pad thai. Thus, TS is a great "find", and we are more than happy to hop over there and enjoy a good meal. We've tried the chicken pad Thai, chicken pad sew ew, and another "golden" chicken dish, stir-fried with vegetables and shrimp. Everything has been tasty, hot and fresh, in generous portions (our favorite is the pad Thai). TS is a hole-in-the-wall, located in absolutely the crummiest, deader-than-tombs strip center (watch out for potholes in the parking lot - they will DESTROY your car). However, the food makes up for its location. No, TS doesn't offer the best or most authentic Thai food ever - however, it's one of the best culinary options that area has to offer, and a welcome relief to have discovered after suffering through too many fast food drive-thrus and nasty, greasy chains.

This place was a pleasant surprise! Almost turned around because the shopping center it is in is very run down. But don't let that deter you because the food is super flavorful and fresh! Chicken Rice soup is amazing! I'm still trying to figure out how they get their broth so packed with flavor. And of course the Pad Thai was great too. Yum

Far and away the best Thai food I've ever had. Never had a bad experience here, although it can get really crowded at times. Love the Pad Thai and the soups that come with lunch are always really good.
