It's a mixed bag. Great food, bad service. I work in Frankfort, and often see co-workers having their lunch delivered from Gibby's. Well, one day a few weeks ago I was stuck at my desk and couldn't get away for lunch, so I decided I would order lunch from them. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to get a tasty steak dinner delivered right to my office. No delivery fee, just $13 and change for a ribeye, baked potato, hot garlic bread and salad. The only catch was that the delivery person didn't know I had told them I was paying cash, so he had no change at all. Still for good food, it was worth the slight inconvenience of scrounging around the office for somebody who could make change. I figured I would make a habit of ordering my lunch from them when I couldn't get away from the office. Then, a couple weeks later I was again stuck at my office and unable to leave for lunch. I thought I'd order again. I was mistaken. My order was taken by a woman with a very bad attitude, who chided me for not placing my lunch order 2 to 3 days in advance, saying it's very hard to get food delivered the same day and I should order my lunch at least 2 days in advance, and they might be able to fit me in for a delivery in an hour. She lectured me on how unreasonable it was to expect delivery (to an office you can see from their restaurant) in any less time. Who ever heard of having to place a lunch delivery order several days in advance? Then, after I placed my order, she impatiently huffed and asked what else I wanted. I said that was all. She snapped at me to tell me there is a $5 delivery fee for all orders under $25, a fee I did NOT have to pay the last time I ordered from them. So, they expect people to order their food days in advance and pay a $5 delivery fee to have it delivered down the street? It was a nice meal I had there last time, but not THAT nice. So, good food, bad attitude and delivery service.

Not an Italian restaurant. It is a restaurant that serves a few Italian entrees. Nevertheless, the food I had was wholesome and tasty, if not delicious. Everything was fresh, properly cooked, and clearly had excellent quality ingredients. The portion size was generous and too much for me, but that is par for the course these days (pun intended). If you are hungry and need a filling, wholesome meal, pop in and fill up. The staff are friendly, the place is clean, and the prices are great.

We weren't overly impressed with what we ordered. My daughter couldn't eat her turkey, ham and bacon club , the fries were average but the onion rings were very good. I hear their Hotbrown is good so I'll need to try it.

Really good Kentucky Hot Brown! And we paired it with Bourbon Barrel Ale, which is excellent.

I used to live right around the corner from Gibby's and would order from them frequently. As I would walk there, I would pass up restaurants that many would conciser to be far superior (Serafini's, Nema's, Melanies) however I would walk by with my head held high for a good ol' Gibby's Hot Brown. The reviews i've read here mostly surround bad service, which happens from time to time, however I have NEVER (let me reiterate NEVER) had a bad meal. Service is the reason they got the 4 star's but no less. The food is GREAT, and if you listen hard enough, you can even hear politics talk from every other table in the place. The best downtown sandwich doesn't come from a restaurant, but from the Gibby's / Ricks White Light sandwich with Downtown Frankfort being the meat in a helluva restaurant sandwich.

I'm from out if town and stopped by for dinner. The local people recommended it. The food was salty and wouldn't correct the order. I paid $40 for salty food. Frozen garlic bread a joke and wasn't authentic Italian food.

I tried both lunch and dinner at Gibby's. Lunch was very busy, which makes sense because their lunch menu is great. The dinner crowd was thin probably because the dinner menu is a slight extension of the lunch menu with higher prices. The food at Gibby's was satisfying. I had the Reuben for lunch and the house salad with grilled salmon for dinner. My coworker had a Kentucky hot brown. Nothing here is healthy or cheap, but if you want lunch spot with big hot sandwiches Gibby's will make you happy.

Good food, decent staff, but points lost for serving lunch on styrofoam. Dinner is on regular plates...so why not lunch. Considering how bad styrofoam is for the environment, and since they do have plates stocked, this is an epic fail.

Good sandwiches, clean, parking lot. Recommended by a local distillery.

I've eaten at Gibby's several times -- against my will. I don't understand why anyone chooses to eat here, but it's always pretty crowded, and the line for lunch is rather long (you order at the counter during the busy lunch rush and wait for your number to be called at the pickup counter. At dinner, there's table service). I mean, the sandwiches -- which come with a bag of chips (not chips made in house, but Lays or Fritos or Sun Chips) -- are edible, but there's nothing to elevate them in any way. I can make the same sandwich at home & pack my lunch for work. I've had the same experience with warm dinner entrees -- they're just not special in any way. They do have a nice patio, so there's that. And there's plenty of space to accommodate large groups. The location can't be beat, mere steps from the old Capitol. And there's off-street parking. So I admit it's a convenient spot for work outings. But I like to eat for enjoyment, not convenience, so my colleagues can expect to hear me whine whenever they choose Gibby's as our destination.

Best hot brown I've ever had. Onion rings are great! They have an amazing patio out back.

Stopped in wanting a lighter meal. I had the pulled pork which is smoked on sight and was very good. The baked beans were the best I have had in a restaurant. My husband had the chicken bruschetta which he also enjoyed. Good food at a easonable price. .

My daughter and I have very much enjoyed Gibbys over the years. It's a comfortable place to eat some pretty good food and catch up with each other. When she was in high school, we'd end up there a lot before a game or after a dance practice. :) I particularly like sitting at one of the front window booths, and absentmindedly watching the quiet activity on Broadway. Gibbys isn't fancy...some of the booths are kind of worn, but that just adds to the charm for me. Service is usually friendly and prompt. At lunch time it's counter service only, and switches to table service for dinner. They always have a nightly special posted on a board by the door. There have been some nights when I came away thinking the food was fantastic and others when I thought it was just ok. They usually make a pretty good burger, I've always enjoyed their hot brown, and they make a very good frito pie that I don't think is even on the menu anymore, but they've always made it when I've asked. I've had really good bacon cheese fries there, and their onion rings are great served with honey mustard. There are lots of sandwiches and dressed baked potatoes on the menu also. On certain nights they used to bring a complimentary sample of an appetizer to the table, which was a lot of fun, but they haven't done that for a while. I'm giving Gibbys 3 stars for food, and a fourth star for comfortable atmosphere and memories.

Decent place to get a sandwich for lunch. Nothing fancy but good food. A nice local place.

EDIT: original review was 2 stars--see below ** I've been back a few times now because this is one of the decent lunch restaurants in Frankfort. The food is delicious, and after the one horrible experience (really, a year later and I'm still ticked about the comment to go eat in 12 degree weather), all my other experiences here have been good. Service is pretty good, and the food is always great. ***************************************************** I've been twice now. The food is delicious. However, I'm giving if 2 stars due to the poor experience I had a couple days ago. My fiancé and I are from out of town, and I took him to Frankfort to see the Kentucky capital. As I had enjoyed eating at Gibby's the last time I was in Frankfort (and would have give 5 stars if reviewed just on that experience), I took him to lunch there. After ordering our food, I realized that EVERY booth had been "reserved" (nobody was using the booths at the time). When our food came, my fiancé asked where we were supposed to eat since all of the non-reserved tables were full (there were two chairs at a table full of other patrons-people were eating community style I guess- but not near each other so we couldn't sit together). The guy at the order counter says "uhh outside?" Just as an aside, it was 12 degrees outside at this point. Anyways, he said they were expecting a group at 11:30 (it was now 12:10) and that nobody could sit at the booths. We finally got a place to sit and the food was delicious. The service left a lot to be desired. And once the group arrived they ended up reserving ALL of the tables in the restaurant (even though only half the booths were filled up by the time we left around 1pm) except for where we were sitting since you can't reserve a table someone's sitting at I guess lol (after we finished eating, I gave our seats to a couple of poor ladies who were in the same position we had been in where they had ordered without being notified that EVERY table was reserved). The best part was that nobody warned us there was a group coming in and no seating before we ordered our food (no signs, no verbal warnings, nothing) tied with the worst response in all customer service "eat outside (in 12 degree weather)". They definitely did not live up to their "philosophy" of being "committed to excellence..." Why did they not close the restaurant if they were going to reserve every table in there? Telling you customers to eat outside in frigid weather is the absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced. I would recommend this place for the good food at a local place but not for the service or attitude towards their customers.

Love their burgers and the spaghetti and meatballs. Great service, apps, love the ambience. Can't go wrong for family dinner, quick lunch or romantic date night. They have a patio in back that is great in the summer.

We went to Gibby's as a group of 8 or 9 for happy hour. In the evenings, they actually have table service which they don't have at lunch, or so I'm told. We came in for happy hour and people ordered drinks. The server came back and told half the table that they had not received their beer order and they were out of many things. People made other selections and the server went to go get the drinks. It took 15 minutes to return with the drinks. The server then went back to the kitchen and returned to take our orders. Most of the table ordered appetizers since they were $2 off because of happy hour. My husband ordered cheese fries (not chili cheese fries) and I ordered chicken fingers. The fries were literally fries with melted shredded cheese on it--no bacon, no ranch, just cheese. The chicken fingers were pretty standard. Overall I wasn't impressed with the food, but I have been told it's better at lunch.
