The event: Went here Wednesday June 4th 2014 at 6:37pm. Waited on by Erin. Ordered Giant #7 Combo with chips and large drink. Told Erin I wasn't a ham fan so he offered to drop the ham, and add some more bacon or turkey for me. Thanked him for that. Asked for paper plate since I ordered extra vinegar. Messy, but good I thought - WRONG ! Total was $16.88. The background; I absolutely LOVE Jersey Mike's Subs at Fields Ertel Road exit in Mason, OH. Often there. My favorite sub sandwich is Giant #7. The issue: At this location Erin, and two (2) other employees told me they or their Manager will be fired if they give out a SINGLE paper plate (cost 3 cents at Costco). Now that is a paper plate for a $16.88 sandwich. For $17.00 I can get a small filet mignon and salad bar at Ruby Tuesday or Applebee's. HINT: GO THERE ! RUN FROM HERE!!! So I called to speak with Caroline or Peter Cancro at Jersey Mike's HQ in New Jersey to relate them to my story. Peter and Caroline make it a point that you cannot reach them. I was not able to speak with them, since both their gate keepers Melissa and Peggy do their best to keep reality from settling in and do all possible NOT to allow customers to speak with HQ owners. They also re-directed me to the local regional manager, Joe who runs three (3) stores in Northern KY and two (2) across the river. Joe also confirmed that paper plates aren't provided. Joe also confirmed that the policy is no paper plates!!! The bottom line: Any business who causes fear for employees from giving out a SINGLE paper plate from a locked back room on a 'princely priced' submarine lunch meat sandwich and makes it difficult to get a paper plate, and hassles customers to get a paper plate from a locked store room, shows it's true colors. These things come from the top down. This cannot be blamed on employees. It is a Corporate Culture thing right from the top down. No amount of BS will make me feel otherwise. And a business whose CEO who will not speak to customers, or makes it very difficult shows its true colors. And a local franchisee who allows his regional manager to simply let me write a YELP review because he: (a) has no control over Corporate. (b) has no control over his Owner-Boss. (c) honestly has no idea why employees will not provide me a paper plate in first (1st) breath, but in the second (2nd) breath says it is INDEED policy is clueless or not truthful. Which is worse? I'm not sure... . You be your own Judge. (d) when Corporate also tells me a paper plate policy is a LOCAL decision. I told Joe I had no choice but to write a Yelp Review. He said "OK"... so here I am. That was easy. Don't fix it. Let customers write the truth. Another MAJOR weakness. He did not seem interested at all to solve it so I will inform folks on Yelp and Angie's List. Really rather simple. The point isn't the plate. The point isn't him being clueless. It is much deeper. THE REAL KICKER: Oh yes, and the Giant #7 comes with Turkey, Bacon, and Ham. They left off the bacon entirely and charged me an extra $1.00 for bacon which should come on the sandwich for free. So no ham and NO BACON. remember what Erin said about adding bacon in place of ham for free ? Got a few slices of Turkey... ! SUMMARY: THIS MT ZION JERSEY MIKE'S SUB IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE QUALITY OF FOOD, SERVICE, OR CUSTOMER LOYALTY OF THE FIELDS ERTEL ROAD OHIO JERSEY MIKE'S. NOT EVEN CLOSE. EMPLOYEES ARE NOT HELPFUL. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A MORALE ISSUE, AND FEAR OF REGIONAL MANAGEMENT. AND IN CASE YOU ARE WONDERING, NO, THE FIELDS ERTEL IS ACTUALLY UNDER DIFFERENT MANAGEMENT AND OWNERSHIP. SUGGEST YOU STEER CLEAR AWAY FROM MT ZION LOCATION, OR GO TO THE SUBWAY CLOSE BY FOR SMILING EMPLOYEES WHO CONCENTRATE ON WHAT THEY CAN-DO INSTEAD OF WHAT THEY CAN'T DO. THIS JERSEY MIKE'S IS ALL ABOUT WHAT THEY CAN'T-DO, STARTING WITH THE REGIONAL MANAGER AND FROM THE TOP DOWN ! AND YES, I DID TRY TO CONTACT JERSEY MIKE'S HQ IN NJ ABOUT THE MORALE, FEAR, CAN'T DO ATTITUDE AT MT ZION, THE 3 CENT PAPER PLATE, AND THE FACT THE MT ZION EMPLOYEE'S CHARGED FOR SOMETHING I DID NOT EVEN GET, AND THAT I HAD TO TAKE MY SANDWICH BACK UP TO THE COUNTER TO HAVE BACON PUT ON A MESSY, NOW DIS-ASSEMBLED, MESS OF A SANDWICH. AS OTHERS HAVE SAID, NOT A GREAT EXPERIENCE. I WOULD GIVE MT ZION A 0 (ZERO) IF I COULD. A CHEAP PLACE, RUN BY FEAR MONGERING EMPLOYERS, NOT PROPERLY OVERSEEN BY HQ, SUPERVISED BY A 'HANDS TIED REGIONAL MANAGER' WITH RESULTING VERY LOW MORALE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE BY THE EMPLOYEES AT MT ZION. STAY AWAY. GO SUBWAY FOR ME... FOREVER !!! AND BY THE WAY, THE FIELDS ERTEL OHIO JERSEY MIKE'S IS STILL GOOD, BUT I WILL NOT GO THERE EVER AGAIN SIMPLY BECAUSE I NOW KNOW WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON A JERSEY MIKE'S HQ ... ! DONT WANT TO SUPPORT A JERSEY MIKE'S HQ WHO MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET TO THE TOP! CAN NO LONGER SUPPORT JERSEY MIKE'S OVER WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SIMPLE AND EASY EXPERIENCE, AS IT IS THE PRINCIPAL OF THE ISSUE HERE.

Some of the better sandwiches you can find, even though it is a chain. The original is always good and make sure to get it Mike's way, which is how we eat then back in Jersey, no mayo, oil and vinegar will do just fine. Usually a pretty nice staff there and fast getting people through.

Stopped here on a road trip for lunch; ordered a meatball sub. The meatballs were made of some kind of mystery meat...not good. Guess I ordered the wrong sub.

Amazing and fresh! Totally got my vinegar fix here today!! A chain- absolutely, so look for one in your area, but this one here allllll the way out on Mount Zion Rd has super friendly and concientious service. My pick of the day- the veggie (número 14, if you are curious) and the lady fixing it even asked if I need the slicer completly cleaned, catering to the vegan needs! Totally polite and thoughtful in my book! Me being a loving meat eater saved her the trouble. I started thinking, but I have a veggie, what needs to be sliced? That's right, they slice you veggies fresh! I completed my mound of goodness in a vinegar splash with the traditional goodies- pickles, banana peppers (absolutely love!), vinegar... You get the gist. All in all- very tastey and very fresh. Kudos Mr. Mike with your Jersey subs!!

Coming from Colunbus I absolutely love some Jersey Mikes however this location I have found very disappointing. The food doesn't taste as fresh as the other locations and the service is horrid. I have gave them about 5 try's and will not go again. As you visit you will mist likely find your server out front smoking as you walk in. You could be lucky and find a clean table but maybe not? Sadly I recommend this location over the nearby subway. Go to Kroger and by lunch meat if your eating in Independence. Lol, my best advice!

Jersey Mike's are definitely a chain... but this particular one is a cut above the rest. I offer to you their rosemary bread is just fantastic... we go here all the time and they have excellent and extremely fast service. Even when really busy they keep things moving and they make it any way you want. They keep things very clean and if you haven't been in a while their new remodel is very nice. Excellent deli/sandwich shop in florence, ky.
