Chung Kiwha Korean BBQ Menu

I often dream about this place. A lot of times when my husband asks what I want for dinner, I'll throw this name out and see if he'll take me. Not much luck as it takes some planning to go for dinner. It's 2 hours away from our house, kind of in the middle of nowhere - south of Cincinnati, and you have to be good and hungry and have a full 2-3 hours to eat! Buffet style Korean. It's about 35-45dollars but totally worth it mostly for the quality of the ingredients that you receive. I would compare this restaurant to the Korean style Brazilian steakhouses. You get unlimited amounts of quality food buffet style. You bring it back to your table and cook it how you want. The Korean restaurant we have in Indy is about 24 dollars a plate for the seafood dish and I'm never full. I can definitely eat 4 or 5 plates when going here. Most Korean places charge a lot of money for their skimpy plates of marinated meat that you cook at your table. So for me, this is so worth the drive and definitely worth the road trip. The only negative part is people sometimes like to go out to eat and be wine and dined and don't want to cook their own meal. Well, let me just tell you... cook it yourself and it will be hot, and just the way you like it and the smell of grilled meat YUM YUM YUM. they marinate all the meat on the buffet and not many places offer shrimp, calamari and all the sides are unlimited too!! -mostly not for this price! I have even seen scallops on the buffet before. Their meat is so yummy! the sauce for the bulgogi and Kalbee are my favorite! They have soups, rice, and a few other options on their buffet too. There is a sushi bar that you walk through and I'm thinking you can get sushi there but I save room for the meat and seafood so I have never had sushi there. Just writing this review makes me wish I could eat there now. Another bonus, is the gap/banana republic/old navy outlet is not too far away :)

No service. Seafood is tasteless. You need to add salt and pepper yourself. The only good thing is short rib.

This Korean BBQ join is a bit far from my home in Fairfield, nearly an hour actually. It's a nice little place. I stopped in on a super cold, somewhat snowy Thursday night in January. This was not my first time at the KBBQ grill so to speak. I've been to some of the bests in Las Vegas, San Francisco and New York. Perhaps it's clouding my judgement a bit. Grain of salt and all that. I do like how this place is more of a buffet, allowing you to easily load your plate with the items you want to try. I had great luck with the squid, chicken and scallops. I had less luck with the vegetables and spicy pork. Good, not great. The barley tea I was served is the only tea they had. A staple of Korean restaurants, but hardly the reality for Korean culture which serves all kinds of teas. The service was conscientious and fair, if sparse. I loved how the place was mostly filled with Koreans, not just random Asians. And I enjoyed watching the Korean soap opera on the television they had going as well. It provided an authentic, cultured experience that wasn't over the top. I may go again, with a group of friends, which is how KBBQ is best consumed, especially for the price range (I think I was around $40 with tip.) But I don't know if I'd make a special trip for it without being prompted.

My family and I have been going here for years. It is well worth the price, especially if you are celebrating a special occasion. The meat and veggies are always fresh, and it's great fun to pick out what you want and grill it at your own table. Be sure to try the bone soup!

This was a tough call for me. On one hand, I love Korean BBQ and the fact that I can actually get it in the Cincinnati area is great. The Kalbi and the Bulgogi was really tasty, as were the other meats and seafood options (scallops, shrimp, and calamari). It's authentic in the sense that there are the coal grills at the tables and hooded vents to properly suck out the grill smoke. So I might have rated this a 4 based on that. However, it's $36 per person for just the meal, not including any drinks you might get. I know it's all you can eat, but that's quite a price tag for how much you can realistically eat (though, to be fair, all Korean food in the area is priced quite high). Also, the banchan was fairly sub par and missing some of the traditional favorites. Like others have said, this is where you go to satisfy your craving for Korean bbq. But only once in a long while with the pricing.

Fact: No matter how big your appetite, it's very hard to eat $40+ worth of marinated meat in one sitting. Coming from New York, I knew I wouldn't find exceptional Korean BBQ in this area, so my expectations were calibrated. On the plus side, this place will satisfy an intense craving for Kbbq that includes some seafood (scallops are good). On the downside, while you may leave full--no, painfully stuffed-- your wallet most certainly won't be. Also, come for the meat. The banchan (side dishes) are less than appetizing. Pineapples, however, are BOMB. Last time our group ate so many pineapples that I was beginning to think they kept a small field in the back.

I was in town for a car show and decided to try this place out. The short ribs and ribeye tasted very good. At $35 per person, it was a little over priced. Scallops, mussels, shrimp, and clams were good as well. They only had one person waiting on the tables which looked like husband/wife running the show. They had a big sign that said sushi but apparently they got it anymore so that kinda of sucked. We asked them to change out our grille 2 times because it got very burnet/charred and the lady wasn't very happy about that and gave us an attitude and told us that they only change it out once. For $35 per person, she better provide better service than that. I don't think I will be coming back unless they dropped the price down to $15-$20. But it was a good experience.

Met a group of friends here yesterday evening. I went there fully aware of the price per person based on Yelp reviews. The owners were very nice, and the service included drink refills, advice about best cooking techniques, coal replacement, light conversation. The food was enjoyable. It is simply marinated meats, some seafood, veggies including peppers and onions, watermelon, some other stuff. And obviously, you cook everything yourself. After taxes, you will be paying about $38 total for your food, which is unlimited, and a drink with free refills. I would like to return because I enjoyed that the owners really know how to make a patron feel welcome, the food is good, and the interactive concept of the Korean BBQ should be experienced often. I would return if the price was a bit more realistic. Compared to other Korean BBQ spots I've been to, and other buffets, I think a buffet price of $25 would be a price I'd be willing to pay, and then I would come here more often. I understand that it is all-you-can-eat, but it is impossible for me to eat $34 worth of Korean BBQ, so I'm getting the short end of the stick. To conclude, only the price is keeping me from ever coming here again. Here's a bit of perspective: Swad's all you can eat lunch buffet costs only $8.50 per person...

This place gets a rap for its price and the seemingly lack of customers they have. I really like Korean food so I went on a whim after passing it so many times. The service is indeed buffet style, with lots of options for you to make over the charcoal grill at your table. The food itself was incredibly good - I tried all the side dishes and almost every meat option plus soup. Nothing was bad; especially since you can cook it to your own liking and the charcoal really adds to the flavor. The only real downside to this place was the price. Pre tip with soda for one was 39.00. Indeed, expensive, but the meal was so good I had no regrets. Bottom line - if you are okay with spending a little money and have a rather large appetite for good Korean food, go for it.

I tried to give this place a try, but the service was so bad when I walked in to be served that the family and I walked out. I kind of got the distinct feeling I was not welcomed there. I was prepared for the price from reading the Yelp reviews, I was not prepared for horrible service and felling like I walked into a Korean only restaurant.

This was my first KBBQ experience. We went for a new dinner experience with another couple and really enjoyed the plethora of options from beef, pork and various seafood proteins, along with several different veggies. Overall, the setting is not up to par for the price you are paying. ($35-40 per person). No alcohol selection and mediocre service were big turn offs. For me it was a one time trial,we were satisfied and I would recommend to others to try it for the experience because the food was great, but there really wasn't any value due to the price point.

It's a Sunday evening, March 29, 2015, a little past 7:30, and in shock by the treatment. I came in, was told it is $34. 95 per person, and there would be a 10 minute wait. I agreed. While waiting, 8 people came after me. A man came up and seated the last two that had just walked in. Then told the 6 he'll get to them to leave. He then turned to me after the other patrons pointed out I was there first. He asked how many, I said 1, and he told me there were no tables. (There was another man eating by himself.) He then gestured with hand towards the door. It was so shockingly unprofessional and rude others gasped and left with me. I'm never, ever coming back for obvious reasons.

Worst service ever! Great food but after driving two hours on two occasions and once being closed randomly (which I'll take the blame for not calling) and then the second time being turned away at 7:30 pm even though they close at 10pm - because all the tables were dirty and they are too cheap to hire busboys. I did actually eat there three times before and as I said, very good food, but even during those times the service was absolutely terrible - long wait even though tables were available, slow to restock food on bar, refills? Forget about it! My advice to the owners - hire some help! I'll never go there again simply on principle. The principle that people who suck at service THAT BAD on multiple occasions don't deserve my hard earned money.

We arrived at 5pm, exactly when they open. So when we walked in through the doors, no one was in the restaurant. There was even no one there to greet us so we went inside and grabbed a table. When they finally noticed us, they were very friendly and explained to us how the all you can eat menu worked. Growing up in LA, I have very high expectations for korean bbq. Especially because Chung Kiwha is a bit more pricey, I was definitely expecting a nice meal. My whole party ordered the all you can eat option. Instead of bringing the side dishes and the plates of meat to you, they had a buffet style bar where you can grab a big plate and mix and match the meats that you want. This is good because you're able to grab exactly how much you want, without having to worry about finishing a whole plate if your party was getting a bit stuffed. The side dishes were not impressive. I found it odd that they had japanese style miso soup at a korean restaurant. One disturbing thing that I saw though was a fly buzzing around over the side dishes. I came in time to shoo it away... but I'm sure that didn't get rid of it for good. Very worrisome. Also, the grill was also a bit too small for my liking. But overall, the experience was alright and I would come back if I was really really craving korean bbq.

We arrived and no one was there to greet us...so we walked into the dining room and it was very busy...again, no one there to tell us where to sit...so we grabbed a table. I had to flag down people telling them to set up the grill. They used hot coals for the fire, so the smell of the fire is really nice and authentic. The food was very good...all the appetizers, soups and meats were very well seasoned...short ribs, ribeye, spicy pork, chicken, squid, shrimp, mussels, etc....They ran out of rice and it took forever to restock. Service is poor. But the quality of the food is outstanding...

When I was told that dining at Chung Ki Wha means you will be cooking your own meal, I immediately thought of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer wants to start a make-your-own-pizza restaurant. ("...and you FLING it in the air!") As if my initial preconception of the place wasn't low enough already, when I arrived with a coworker, he and I were the only non-employee cars in the parking lot. We walked in... to dead silence. It took at least 2-3 minutes for us to even hear anyone moving around in the place, even after peeking around corners and over the bar. Finally when an employee (owner? hostess? waitress? I have no idea) noticed us, she promptly seated us at a large table for our group of 7. The tables all have one grill cooktop, which is coal-fired. The 7 of us shared 3 grills which was perfectly adequate for us. The way it works is as follows: you go to the cold bar where there are a number of different meat/seafood options such as shrimp, spiced pork, marinated beef, scallops, and a few others. There were also plenty of raw veggies to choose from. You then bring your selection back to your table and with the use of provided tongs, grill away. There are a handful of side items you can take from another cold bar (noodles, fried tofu, kimchi, edemame, etc.) as well as two soups, which I didn't try. They don't have a full bar, but they do serve beer and sake. The only dessert-type food they had was sliced watermelon, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, the food was yummy and our waitress (who was the only soul in the place other than our table of 7 for the entire 3 hours we spent there) was very attentive. She replaced our grill-tops when they had too much burned gunk on them, refilled our water frequently, adjusted our grills' heat, and was kind enough to show us some tips on how to use the grills. Overall, I think this place is a hidden gem, although pretty expensive. I'm just curious if they can handle more than one table of customers at a time.

MR says: where I load up my protein needs MRS says: Chung Kiwha is the place to be when you want to eat Korean BBQ. Like the other yelper, Sheena D. had mentioned, it is a buffet style setup. Your main entree are the marinated meats (chicken, pork, beef, short ribs), seafood (prawns, mussels, scallops, baby octopus) you cook at your table. Soups and Korean side dishes varies but they always have kimchi and miso soup. Rice and lettuce leaves are also available to eat with your grilled meats. The grill area is just the right size. May look like it's small at first but once the charcoal delivers, you'll be cooking smoking hot Korean BBQ. Please be warned that the smoke or smell will stick to skin and your clothes. Since Chung Kiwha is not a fancy restaurant, wear clothes that are about to hit the laundry :) So when Korean BBQ craving kicks in ... Chung Kiwha will fulfill your appetite. Japanese sushi and rolls are also served here.

The food was awesome. I wish they have more selection. But it was way over price. There is no way I could eat $40 worth of food.

How this place stays in business is still an unsolved mystery. I have been here a handful of times and if there is one other table in the restaurant, then I would consider it a good night. The food is great though. You cook the meat yourself at your table.... if you don't like cooking your own food when you go out to eat, then this simply isn't the place for you. It is a buffet style that offers appetizers, soups and meats and veggies to cook. The meat is great... the dipping sauce is even better, but they don't prepare for a big eaters, and will likely run out of food if you have a big eater in your party.

  • Sheila C.

If you're a big meat eater then this is your place! A DIY Korean BBQ loaded with a buffet of meats (marinated bulgogi, chicken, pork, as well as scallops, shrimp and oyster) and traditional Korean preparations. Each table has its own little barbeque pit where you cook your own meats and veggies such as onions, green peppers, and mushrooms. A fun experience whether on a date or with a group. At $30 per person, be sure to go when you're very hungry but you definitely get your money's worth.

What a wonderful experience! You know your in the right place when you walk in and employees are sitting down eating the food and drinking soju! I noticed that it took a few minutes for someone to notice us and get us seated but after we were well looked after. We would told to help ourselves to the buffet and our charcoal for the BBQ would be right out. There were two choices of soup, rice, and at least 6 kinds banchan. The kimchi was very fresh and crunchy. There were lots of seafood and meat choices for the BBQ with fresh veggies. Everything was fresh and good. This will definitely be added to special places to visit. It is too expensive to go to other than for special occasions. We will definitely be going back and I would highly recommended it. Be sure to wear clothes that you don't mind having them smell like smoke and plan to spend a couple of hours since you have to cook everything yourself. :)

Well first of all. I drive by this restaurant and never see anyone there. Well my sister came in town from San Fransico. She loves Korean food. So I told her let's go there. I told her it's barbecue cooking. Cook in front of you, she was fine with that. So there was 8 of us for dinner, everyone love the experience. I ate so much...in glut nee. The only issue I had at the restaurant, it was a little pricey. All you can eat for $45.00 per person. So I eat there on special occasion.

For some reason nobody I speak with knows about this place. IT IS AMAZING!!! There is a bar of food set up with all kinds of marinated meats and seafood and veggies. There is another bar with condiments and salads. A server (usually the owner) comes to your table and puts hot coals into a little grill that is built into the middle of the table. You go to the bar and pick out all of the stuff you want to grill and eat. There is white rice and lettuce to stuff your meat into wraps. Examples of some meats are thinly sliced marinated rib-eye, shrimp, scallops, chicken, pork, tongue (didn't try that one) and thinly sliced rib meat. We like to grill garlic cloves along with all of the veggies and meats and smash it into a sweet creamy topping for our wraps. If you go, you will smell like grilled meats so plan to make this your whole evening. It takes a long time to eat there and is entertaining so it is not hard to do. :) They don't give you a menu or tell you how much it costs unless you ask. I think it is $27 per person. Well worth it for all of the very fresh items and the authenticity of the place. I went to a place like this in Koreatown in NYC and it this is actually better.

  • Sean E.

Some of the best short ribs and ribeye I've ever eaten, and using the charcoal grills was fun. The asparagus and onions were delicious over the charcoal. The only reason for subtracting a star was the price: $30 each is a little expensive, so we won't be going back very frequently, but for special occasions it's on the list now.

This place was cool. This is how its set up. I never had Korean BBQ before and this was an interesting experience. There is a buffet of raw meats, seafood and vegetables. On your table you have this giant grill where you throw the meat and vegs on there and you cook it yourself. And it comes out good! Eating the food piping hot right off the grill (picked up by chopsticks) is the way to go. Its all juicy and good. Heres a hint I came up with. I really liked the thin beef...what you can do is take one of the raw garlic and put it under the beef as it cooks on the grill. Its so good. My only problem is, the staff was non-existent there. So I pretty much had to figure out how to do this shit all by myself by creepily staring at the other customers (I don't like social interactions). It wouldve been nice for someone to show me how it works but at the end of the day I had a good meal and I didn't get food poisoning from eating raw meat (at least I think I didn't....) Good times!

This place is pretty ok. It would be incredible if it wasn't $28/head. Meat selection is average. Salad selection is poor. Dessert selection is non-existent. Really fun experience. For those who are new to the cook your own meat at your table experience and if money is not an object check it out.

I actually heard this place due to the fact my friends and I were talking about the fun we had in LA and how we had k-bbqs there. Well, that spun off on a search and we found this restaurant, which happens to be the only k-bbq in the area. We were seated promptly and the grills were set up and ready for us to go pretty quickly. The grills themselves are not that big so I kind of knew the table of 6 of us would have to wait a little while initially for food to get cooked. The slight difference between this k-bbq and the ones I'm used to is that this place is more of a buffet-style where you have to go get your food yourself. So I made my normal buffet sweep to survey the food selections. First thing that disappointed me was the lack of samgyeopsal. That is my favorite meat at a k-bbq so that made me a little sad. All the other traditional meats (kalbi, bulgogi) were there so that was fine. In addition there were quite a few seafood options such as mussels and largest scallops I've ever seen at a buffet. I was definitely not against eating scallops even if I was in Kentucky. Also, there were plenty of vegetables to ensure our hearts would not die from all the meat we were eating. The service as a whole was decent (a couple times we had to call them over to change the grill). Also, the exhaust seemed to have broken for one of our tables so there was lots of smoke in our area. Overall, the food was not too bad and we would definitely come back if it weren't for the price. Coming from LA, k-bbqs generally run around $15-20. So coming out with a bill of $40+ was a definite shock (they don't give you any menu so you kind of go in blind). However, if you're super hungry and willing to pay the extra buck for unlimited supply of meats, this place is not a bad place to do it at.

I think this restaurant has both positives and negatives. I'll start with the positives. I like the fact that they use real coals. All the other Korean BBQ places I've been to have used gas burners. I was also impressed with the seafood selection. They had large scallops, that have been mentioned in previous reviews. They also had shrimp, squid, and oysters. The meat selection included kalbi, bulgogi, spicy pork, and spicy chicken. They also brought out a small plate of beef tongue for us. My favorite was the kalbi, which is usually my go to. My buddy liked the bulgogi the most. They also had a dipping sauce that I wasn't all that impressed with when they brought it out, but grew on me and by the end of the meal, I was dipping everything in it. Unfortunately, I think the negatives outweigh the positives. This is a mom and pop joint, which I appreciate and would like to support. However, that is also limits their ability. I have to say, service was pretty disappointing. We walked in starving, and had to stand by the entryway into the dining area for a good 5 minutes or more without seeing anyone to seat us. I eventually just walked in and saw the owner lady coming out of the kitchen and then she sat us. It also took forever to get drinks since it seemed to be only two people (probably the owners) working in the entire restaurant. I would probably be more efficient to just put a drink machine and cups out so that you can serve yourself soda or water, since this is a buffet. The banchan here was also nothing to write home about. I love kimchi, but I thought their's was somewhat lacking. They had some sprouts, which were pretty flavorless. Also had some anchovies, but pretty much the generic kind that I've had out of a can growing up. They also had some chap chae, but that was also mediocre. I thought the spicy pork and chicken were rather flavorless. Even the bulgogi and kalbi were lacking in flavor, and thus I really had to use the dipping sauce for both. I was fine with the scallops because they were pretty good sized, but we seasoned it liberally with salt and pepper, that we grabbed from a center storage table (none on each individual table). If you're not really into cooking, you may not think about doing that and may end up disappointed. Also, my total bill was $40, which included dinner, one bottle of Kirin, and soda. Somewhat expensive for not such a great meal. So in summary, my two-star rating (meh, I've experienced better) is a pretty accurate representation of my feeling about the restaurant. I was really hoping that this place would be good since I used to go for all-you-can eat Korean BBQ about once every two months in California. Unfortunately the Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky version doesn't quite measure up. My go to place in California wasn't outstanding, but I thought the meat was better marinated, and also included other cuts such as brisket and pork belly and was only $18. I probably won't be coming back unless I really start craving all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ. But at these prices, I can probably not be as glutonous and try the other Korean restaurants in the city.

This is a place I highly recommend to people who wanted to "pig out" once in a while. Yes its a little bit pricey....$30 for an adult and $15 for a child. Maybe I can justify the price by the looking at it this way: buffet of all you can meat (short ribs, bogogi, tendering, chicken, several sea foods, and more that I can't remember. What really makes me keeps coming back to this place is how you cook your food. It makes it a quality time for us as a family because we take our time eating and enjoying each others company. I hope u will try this place.

The food is actually good, i gave it 3 stars because of the price. For a buffet, its gonna cost you over 37. The meat choices are great, they have kalbi, bulgogi, pork bulgogi, HUGE scallops, shrimp, squids, oysters and clams. Most of them are comparable to good Korean restaurant's BBQ. The scallops are really big, i was really impressed. The other food other than the BBQ doesn't really stand out. I would go here often if they price is not this expensive.

  • Khiemo S.

Wow, what a rip off! Never going here again! First off, the food is good but definitely not worth $35. They have a decent variety of meats and seafood but it is nothing special. Without the sauce, the meats would not be as good. The reason why I gave this place a one star is because of the slow service, mandatory 18% gratuity and the fact they threw an extra $5 on to my bill for no reason. They only have one server and it's an old lady gimping around, taking her time filling everyone's water. That's literally all the service there is because you grab and cook your own food. She doesn't even take your plates away. You're going charge me an 18% gratuity so I can serve and cook myself a meal while you gimp around with a water pitcher!?!?!? I asked why is there an 18% gratuity? The old lady literally said "well, some people tip and some people don't so we just add on 18% tip". Well, some people don't tip because you're terrible at your only job of re-filling water and it's a buffet where you literally serve and cook your own meal. My bill came out to be $86(after taxes and gratuity) for two people and when I checked my credit card, I was charged $91.70. Wow! I have never been more irritated at a restaurant in my entire life. I hope this place goes out of business!

Pretty pricy for Korean BBQ, but there aren't many paces around the area that does CHARCOAL bbq. That's right! They bring our charcoal to your table, and will bring out new ones if you request it. Its a great selection of meat and deliciously marinated. Always has other Korean side dish selections and fruits on the side and some rice and soup. Around $50/person last time I went, but if you craving Korean BBQ super bad and cooked on charcoal yourself then it is super worth it! Get ready to wear stretchy pants, not your nice shirt (it will splatter and get grease) and the best part? YOU WILL SMELL OF Korean BBQ afterwards. You'll smell tasty and smokey! Happy Meat Eatting!

  • Drake D.

Definitely worth the cost. Previous comments mention how expensive it is. Feel like they should hold their tongue, if you are going to a place with 3 $'s you should know it's not cheap. I also noticed people mentioning the service, it is family run. I watched every tray get refilled at least twice in the 45 minutes I was there. Only two people working and my water glass was never empty. An amazing Kentucky gem. Highly recommend eating here, just be ready to eat a lot and be ready to pay for it to. Never would think to find such an amazing Korean bbq in Kentucky. Definitely will be returning the next time I am passing through!

Most expensive korean BBQ I ever heard in my life!!! Close to 40 dollars per person after tax, they didn't write that on the door or menu, You can eat the same quality food in Atlanta for 25 USD

I love going to this place. The owners are always so friendly and helpful. And of course the food is amazing - it's all you can eat.... can't get any better than that!
